Im updating the first post mentioning my observations so that one can read all my post in one place without hassel.
Friends, please help me with my bricked Epic.
My Epic was running on SRF 1.2
For couple of days it went fine.
But yesterday the problem started when I plugged in the Phone on Mass Storage mode. My computer said some erron on SD card and asked me to find and fix any errors.
I formatted the SD card using CWM 3.1.0.1.
Then I decided to go back to Stock EC05 and tired to flash the rom using Odin.
I've done it many times before. so Well aware of the steps needed.
But while flashing the Rom.. Odin hanged on factoryfs.rfs.
So I unplugged and tried again and again. But now the rreal issue start.
My computer do not recognize the phone anymore in download mode
On pressing power on botton or Volume Down+Cam+ power button.. NOTHING HAPPENS.
However I can boot into Download Mode (on battery only).
1) Computer do not recognize USB Drive. (tried uninstalling drivers > rebooting > reinstalling > rebotting ) still USB device not recognized. Even tried with different USB cable. And different ports.
2) However I managed it on my other computer. Where only 1 out of 4 USB port recognize my device.
3) Tried Odin to flash EC05 Stock... It hangs at some place or the other, and screen goes off or some times Solid Cyan (very rare).
4) Phone do not restart in Download mode without battery.
I tried to boot download mode without battery (plugged into computer).. but it wont.
Battery+USB = phone wont boot in download mode.
Phone boots to download mode only on Battery.
After that If i plug in the phone and remove the battery.. screen still stays on.
I went thru many threads but still having same problem.
Please help.
*****************
well after I tried with DI18 rom which was still a failed attempt.
atleast now when I switch on the phone... i can see a screen with a logo..
tiny mobile phone -- "!" in a yelow triangle -- tiny computer
******************
When i go to download mode without the battery and try to Odin flash..
after some time it seems like the phone goes off for a second then I see the battery charging logo on the screen (0% batter).
needless to say that odin freezes.
When I plug in the phone with batery in my phone.. battery charging logo appears @ 0%.
charged the batter for 1 hr.. but still the logo shows 0%.
****************
One more info..
When i plug in the device.. 2 drivers are installed... (only 1 of of my USB port of my Desktop). Rest 3 ports.. it dont work. Neither it works on my laptop.
1) SAMSUNG USB Composite Device (USB)
2) SAMSUNG Mobile Modem #2 (Modem)
As far as i remember there used to be another Driver which used to show in Com Port section of Device Management window.
Am i missing any specific drivers?
**************
In another USB port of my desktop when I plug in the phone, it detects only SAMSUNG USB COmposite Device... But fails to detect modem driver.
When I try to flash using ODIN using that port, it stucks at SetupConnection..
yeah, im in search of HTC or BB original cable aswell.

UNBRICKED MY PHONE. BLACKBERRY CABLE CAME TO RESCUE. GUYS HAVING SAME PROBLEMS. GO BUY A BLACKBERRY ORIGINAL DATA CABLE.

Try a different tar. I prefer dI18. A lot of people have problem on the ec05 tar and odin. Also if you can gt into download mode you are sponged. Not bricked. Hope this helps
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I just had this problem. I ended up reinstalling the drivers (like you did) and restarted my computer a few times. When that didnt work i got a new usb cable. the new usb cabe didnt work for crap... but then i used the old one and for some reason it just started to work. i also was putting the tar in phone slot, it would start but hang up at that same spot... i had to put it in the pda slot.
yeah i always used PDA slot for tar. pit in pit.
Odin 1.6
victory pit
Re-partition/auto reboot/f. reset time all checked
also tried with: auto reboot checked only
downloading DI18. like notsosmrtgeek suggested.
hope this works.
Tried DI18.
With Victory Pit.
Odin: 1.61
Screen goes White on sbl.bin
well after I tried with DI18 rom which was still a failed attempt.
atleast now when I switch on the phone... i can see a screen with a logo..
tiny mobile phone -- "!" in a yelow triangle -- tiny computer
tried to flash DI18 again with Re-Partition/Auto reboot/F. Reset Checked.
as usual hanged @ sbl.bin
but now when i start my phone i can see Samsung logo.
So if your computer is incapable of recognizing your phone, you are mostly screwed. I would say try a different computer. If that does not work, your last chance is to either make or buy a programming cable. The programming cable will force the recognition of your phone for reasons I do not understand.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
edit:
BTW, you can always use the Samsung Provided Flashing Utility
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22628158/Epic4G_FroyoUpgrade_EB13_Tool.exe
i just experienced a complete brick yesterday.. led didn't even turn on when plugged in to charge. couldn't boot into download mode. thought i was screwed.
i pulled the battery and the sdcard... let it sit for like 10 minutes. i kept hitting the power button just to clear any residual charge in the system. (i swear, i never got superstitious about electronics until this phone... ok, and the whole blowing in nintendo cartridge thing when i was 5 )
put the battery back in, with sdcard.. WAS ABLE TO BOOT INTO DOWNLOAD MODE -- YES!!!
i used odin1.3 to flash eb13... kept stalling several times (but each time it seemed to go further before stalling and giving me a yellow screen, then a red screen, then a blue screen, etc) so i figure at least i was making progress...
finally i was able to get it all the way through flashing eb13 in odin1.3..
i experienced a lot of similar things as you: computer not "recognizing" my device, the stalling in odin... hope this helps.
Downloading EB13
link to Odin 1.3 plz..?
odin1.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790026
eb13: http://www.multiupload.com/F0JFA0487M
i tried odin1.6 yesterday and that just wasn't working for me, either that or the ec05 tar file was messing me up... but good 'ol trusty Odin1.3 helped me out... note tho that i did have to flash a couple times (each time i went successively further before failure)
good luck!
Here is something new i noticed.
When i go to download mode without the battery and try to Odin flash..

oh yea, might be a good idea to remove sdcard while flashing in odin just in case
thank you for the link cache.
btw: should i use the same victory pit file with EB13?
use the pit that comes with the odin1.3 download

just keep trying different things man.. working with these phones is a (very) inexact science
you might also give this a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042746 ... apparently some phones have this reset button and some don't.. mine didn't
seen that link yesterday.
my phone too dont have that button

Hi,
My brother's SGH-T989D phone (Koodo / Telus) crashed during an android update. Now, the phone boots to a black screen with the taskbar on top. There is no menu screen anymore. No apps at all. Doing a factory reset via the recovery mode does not change anything.
My PC does not detect the phone. Therefore, I am unable to install a new ROM with Odin. Here are all the infos I have :
1. The phone boots, but there is absolutely nothing except the task bar (I can toggle the wifi and bluetooth on and off, thats it...). There phone says preparing SD storage upon booting. There are no SD card and SIM card.
2. The phone is able to go into recovery and download modes.
3. My PC does not detect the phone. I know the Samsung drivers, Odin v3.07 and USB cable are working properly because I am able to connect my own phone which is also a SGH-T989D.
4. In recovery mode, there is a dead android with a red triangle with an "!" in the background.
5. It used to have the stock gingerbread Koodo ROM, and was probably updated over the air to the newest ICS from Koodo.
6. The phone was never rooted or messed with. I don't think it was ever connected to a computer before.
7. It is not under warranty anymore.
I've spent hours trying to get it recognized by the computer. I've tried putting the ROM on the SD card and applying the update via external storage in recovery mode. I get a message about Signature verification failure.
I've tried cleaning the micro-usb slot. Blowing in it resulted in the computer saying "Unknown device malfunctioned" a single time, which leads me to believe it only did that because some saliva created a short somewhere in there. The connections look clean.
I'm about to throw this phone off the building. What is wrong with it?
**EDIT**
Forgot to mention...the phone does charge when connected to the usb cable.

IDK if this will help you. IF the phone isn't rooted or a custom recovery installed I don't believe you can reinstall the ROM. It does say 'signature verification error' so you might be able to turn off MD5 checking before install. It will be in the settings menu if TWRP is used. I don't believe its an option to do if on stock recovery.
Ok so first, let me say I know I done goofed. What happened was my phone (Note 2 GT-N7100) started to choke up a lot, battery life was ridiculously low and then suddenly my phone's language was constantly being switched to Italian.
I thought it might be a virus but a scan couldn't find anything. I deleted almost all apps in hopes it would stop but the phone went on with these weird glitches. In an act of desperation, I decided to wipe out everything and go back to factory settings.
Thing is my phone is rooted and I had the X Note Rom installed. When I tried the factory reset on TWRP, it still went back to the X Note Rom. That's when I dun goofed. I deleted EVERY ****ING THING in a desperate and stupid move.
Now when I press Volume Up + Home + Power I can get to Recovery Mode but I ain't got **** to install. If I press Volume Down + Home + Power I get into Odin mode but get a "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!" message that just hangs there forever.
To top it off, my computer won't recognize the damn phone anymore. Am I ****ed? Can I get myself out of this mess?! Please HELP!!!
Take it easy, download a custom rom, transfer it to the SD card, enter recovery and Flash it.
Since you can't connect the phone via USB, you need a SD card reader (if you have a laptop you 100% have it)
OR
You could flash the stock ROM through Odin, but it's more risky in my opinion. I would go with the 1st method

Again....excuse if i'm posting on the wrong place cause i'm really newbie on this forum things......
My problem is that while tring to reinstall my 4.3 droid i went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498233 and tried using these files to get another rom, so as it mentioned i started flashing the boot loader but via odin i coudn't as odin negated to proceed due to errors. Them i triede odin multiloader them i tried TWRP them i ended up messing everythin tring via Clock work mod recovery. I just got the process well done and them when the system tries to boot it just won't boot. The eternal black screen looks like i have to a Hard Brick and even if while i try the usb cable the computer responds to the device, i couldn't take it to Download Mode.
After some research i have see that it's possible to make a debrick via SD card.
So.....i'm exactly........cring for help, any good soul that have a litle time to explain me a couple things if i can or i cannot debrick it without spending money. IS my time is running cause i got my SIM card cut and this is my only phone now.

cry a little, maybe the phone will accept your apologizes and resurrect from the dead
again it may not work so don't get your hopes up to high ITS A TRIAL AND ERROR situation WITH HARD BRICKS...........
some people have successfully debricked their device, so again you have to be patient and know exactly what you are doing and dont panic
Remember Mobiletechvideos.com can fix it in less than 25 minutes depending on your phone :laugh:and they are affordable :good:
Your pretty much stuck if you can't recover via SD card.
Remember there are a lot of options for JTAG repair, research local repairs by Kijiiji and also places like Mobile Tech Videos. Always search for legitimacy and best price.

Can’t access to Download Mode or Recovery Mode after bricking AT&T Galaxy S3 i744 4.3
Hi I have (had) a AT&T galaxy S3 i747 with android 4.1.1

Because the phone is in another country I couldn’t update it by OTA to android 4.3
So I started to read forums that said how to Update AT&T S3 i747 to android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB)
The S3 was not Root
I installed all the phone drivers in the computer
This is what I did: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52341582&postcount=38)
- Use Odin 3.07
- Check Auto Reboot and Re-Partition, and uncheck all the boxes
- I put my phone in USB debugging in the developer options
- I turned it off
- Started to put the phone on Download Mode pressing volume DW+home+power button at the same time
- In Odin on the PDA box I checked and loaded the file .tar.md5 (I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 )
- Pressed the button Start
The installation seemed to go right, the program never showed anything weird.
When the Programs finished the installation the phone turned off and then turned on and show the logo of android (seemed to be lying down or inclined) and after that it turned off.
The computer showed that something was connected (QHSUSB_DLOAD) but couldn’t install any driver, so I disconnected it of the computer.
I couldn’t turn on the phone :crying:, I took the battery out and put it in and tried to start the phone and nothing happened, I tried pressing any button to access to recovery o download mode and none of this worked.
I started to search forums that talk about restart or turn on a brick AT&T S3 i747
I found one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068) that said to download a image (debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img) and using the program “Win32DiskImager” to put the image inside of a micro SD to make the phone turn on,
I put the micro SD inside the phone and when I pushed the power button for almost 3 seconds it Turned on , the phone seems to be fine an it has android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB) installed.
I can use it normally so far.
But the problem is that I can’t turn on the phone if the micro SD card is not inserted on the phone.
Without the micro SD inside don’t show any sign of life
When the micro SD is inside I can turn on the phone and use its apps.
I have tried to enter to Recovery mode or Download mode with the micro SD inside but the phone only show what its supposed to happen for 1 second then turns off and then turns on by its own (after that I can use it normally)
Does anyone know how can I Fix my phone ?
How can I boot my phone without using the micro SD card?
How can I access to download mode?
And if I could access to download mode what should I do next ?

It's been a while sorry about beinging away.
A guy who says that have a JTAG service tried and coudn't recover it. So I left it there because it have a broken display and a broken firmware and it' is from outside Brazil and after the FIFA CUP Anatel will lock operation of devices that models are not sold on Brazil and I747 is probably included on the list.
So i gave up from my phone and bought a Nexus 5.
The case is closed!

Hi I have (had) a AT&T galaxy S3 i747 with android 4.1.1 View attachment 2790321
- I turned it off
- Started to put the phone on Download Mode pressing volume DW+home+power button at the same time View attachment 2790322 View attachment 2790323
- In Odin on the PDA box I checked and loaded the file .tar.md5 (I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 )
- Pressed the button Start View attachment 2790324
The installation seemed to go right, the program never showed anything weird. View attachment 2790325
I started to search forums that talk about restart or turn on a brick AT&T S3 i747
I found one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068) that said to download a image (debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img) and using the program “Win32DiskImager” to put the image inside of a micro SD to make the phone turn on,
I put the micro SD inside the phone and when I pushed the power button for almost 3 seconds it Turned on , the phone seems to be fine an it has android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB) installed.View attachment 2790326

Here's what you can do to get the device back to working and booting normally. If the Odin flash failed first time, you should not use this flash again. Instead you should use custom recovery to flash a complete 4.3 stock restore image.
1) Download the stock restore image from the following thread. I always prefer to use TWRP and thus, the TWRP image, because of the easier user interface.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Save the file to a location on your computer.
2) Download the Odin flashable TWRP Tar file for custom recovery from the link below ....
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2att.tar
With the debrick card in your phone, boot to system as you have been doing. Connect your phone to your computer with a good quality micro USB cable and copy the stock restore image you downloaded earlier to your phone. Be sure you remember the stored location.
3) Power off your phone and, with the debrick card, boot to download mode. If you cannot use the Volume Down, Power and Home button combo to boot to download mode, you may need to get a USB jig.
4) Once you are in download mode, connect your phone to the PC, open Odin v3.07. Make sure Odin recognizes your phone. Do not check or uncheck any boxes but leave the defaults as is. In the PDA box, load the TWRP Tar file you downloaded earlier. Click on Start and wait for flashing to complete. When you get to Pass, disconnect your phone from the PC and pull out the battery to stop it trying to reboot.
5) Replace the battery and with the debrick card inside, boot to Recovery mode by pressing the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons. If you do this right, you should be able to get to recovery mode.
6) Select Install and navigate to the stock restore zip file you saved to your phone earlier. Select this zip and swipe to confirm install. Wait for firmware installation (flashing) to complete.
7) Clear your cache/dalvikand reboot to system.
Try booting without the card. If the above process went as described, your phone should be booting normally. Good luck!

Okay. At least, we are almost there. Try booting into recovery mode and doing a hard wipe/reset. If this doesn't work, then you could try reinstalling the 4.3 stock firmware. You may need to reflash custom recovery as the initial flashing would have returned you to stock recovery. If you have to do the firmware flashing again, please make sure you clear your cache/dalvik before rebooting to system.
happy to see this thread resolved, this is what XDA is all about, no matter how fd up something sounds, a community like xda will find a fix for it even if it takes months
And the award of the Q/A thread goes to Larry and everyone in this post for trying and failing but succeeding at the end
anywayz happy rooting and be careful, no-one wants to end with a brick cheers and keep this place awsome

Did you try getting into download mode with the 3-button combo (Volume Down/Power/Home)?
