So what's everyone using for locking or maybe not locking their phone? Currently I haven't been using any security. Tried the fingerprint scanner for a day and it worked pretty good but when I'm out, if my phone isn't in my hand, it's in my pocket. But I know some people live by a secure lock screen. Everyone using the new fingerprint scanner or another method? Just curious.
Just the swipe action here. I'm like you. I never set my phone down. I've had swipe only on every smart phone I've had to far. I did install a PIN lock while I was in Europe for 2 months though.
I was in a car accident two weeks ago. I was a passenger in a car that hit a semi. During the accident, I dropped my phone, however, due to the driver being an idiot, the po po wouldn't allow me to retrieve my phone because they confiscated his car. (I was taken by ambulance.) Needless to say, I had some pictures on there that I would prefer for others not to see. My battery died by the time I got released from the hospital so I couldn't do a remote wipe. I didn't have my phone locked.
Lesson learned, encrypt and lock. LOL Oh, and if you get in the car with a friend, ask to see their license and insurance before getting in the car. Ugh.
I use one myself. There are some cool apps for this. If you value your information then this option is a must.
Yes, I use Tasker to automatically lock my device with a secure password once my watch is not paired with it and remove the password when it is. Got too used to trusted Bluetooth with the Droid MAXX that typing a password every time was bothersome.

+1 I like my phone private, especially if lost or stolen. :good:
Lock Times w/Tasker
I used fingerprint for about 5 days and found it fails too many times. Maybe my fingers are too dry?
You really should have your phone locked, I believe it's more important then screen protectors or cases.
I use PIN lock and Tasker w/Local Password Lock Plug-in
This allows me to set my password to activate at different times depending on what WiFi I'm connected to.
I set at Home WiFi to not lock for a much longer time. I set work for a Mid amount of time. I then have an exit task attached to both that set it to lock at a faster time when away.

I am using fingerprints too, and I'm having problems getting it to register my prints. It usually takes at least 2-3 times, sometimes more to get it to work. I do have a dry skin condition, and I am wondering if the dry skin makes it harder to recognize prints.

yeah I've tried a couple apps to do this but nothing works. Ideally, if I do use a secured lock screen, I'd like to use the fingerprint scanner. So basically when at home, no lock screen. Then as soon as my home wifi disconnects, fingerprint scanner lock screen. Any ideas?

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything in my short time looking. I almost always have my watch, so decided a password was good enough when it disconnects. Let us know if you find anything.
Try SkipLock works great I have it set for when connected to home network, Bluetooth in car or connected to my gear 2 no lock. Otherwise my fingerprint scanner is on.
In the past I rarely used any type of lock screen security, but after trying the fingerprint scanner, I now have that enabled on my phone.
I hate entering a code everytime is turn my phone on. I use "Where's MyDroid" or Cerberus to lock my phone via text message if it's lost or I forget it somewhere. They also take a picture if someone enters the wrong lock code.

I like SkipLock alot so far(doing the 7 day trial). My only question is, how do you get it to use the fingerprint reader instead of a pin/password. Im not seeing that option anywhere. TIA!
I used to always use the pattern lock but grew tired of it and I am very happy we have the fingerprint scanner now. The only thing I need to do is decide whether the Google device wipe & location feature is enough or whether I need another third party app in the event that the phone was lost which has never happened.

Thanks mademan420. I'm looking into it now and will compare with the third party options. I don't see how I would ever lose my phone but they say you should never say never so I want to cover all grounds.

You set your fingerprint reader lockscreen with a backup password then open SkipLock and make sure you made SkipLock a admin. Then open the settings in SkipLock type in your password for the lockscreen under the set pin section.
This might be a Note 5 issue more than anything but who knows. My moto 360 does has not been getting notifications for quite a while now. As far as I know everything is set up in the settings correctly, but it just doesn't work. There is a connection because I still see my music/podcasts playing and I'm able to pause them. But I do not get notifications for text messages etc.
I got an update on my tmobile Note 5 recently and I randomly started getting notifications, that lasted for only 2 days. I no longer get notifications again.
I've tried factory resetting the watch and it hasn't helped. The only thing I can think of doing next is factory resetting my phone. I just thought I'd get to see if anybody else has this issue or knows of a fix before I wipe everything.
Thanks.

Settings-lock screen and security-other security settings-notification access-android wear..turn it off and on and then try notification.

I was able to get it to work by completely turning off the "app optimization" and then restarting the phone and the watch
Anyone having issues adding their fingerprints? I get most of the way through and it dumps me back out to the menu. I tried about 15 times and same result every time. I feel like it is registering a touch somewhere on the screen or buttons or something when it dumps me back and no matter how I try to touch the scanner it does the same thing. I have never had issues like this with the last 4 galaxy fingerprint scanners. Anyone else? Ideas?
I have this issue on the note 7 finger print sensor. Whenever i place my finger at the lock screen, it does nothing and without any error message. i can only unlock it via pattern. Tried rebooting the phone and it is still the same. I even delete off the finger print and re-add the finger print but it is still the same.
Not sure if anyone else have this issue and how do we solve this?

Hi. I bought the Note 8 (Verizon) last week, and everything seemed fine, but then 2 days ago the screen simply won't turn on when I have an incoming call. The phone rings, but the screen won't come on. I have to unlock the phone, and swipe down the notification bar just to answer the call. I've googled around but can't find an answer to this issue for this particular phone. Any suggestions/ideas?
Maybe give a factory reset a go.

I was actually forced to do a hard reset this morning. The phone would NOT come on, no matter what I tried, couldn't even go into Safe Mode. Problem still persists. I'm actually thinking of exchanging it since I'm within the 14 day period.

Hard reset....As in power off and on right? Try booting into recovery mode and deleting cache and data.

Tried that-no change. It's hard to believe that this phone has pretty much everything going for it...except turning on the screen for an incoming call.

3 Factory Resets later, booting into Safe Mode, not downloading ANYTHING else, same scenario. Verizon is shipping a replacement to my house, I should have it by Tuesday. The Tech at the Verizon Store actually called my phone so I could show him the lack of screen activation. He said he's never seen this before either.
FIGURED IT OUT! Settings--Display&Lights--Turn off double tap to wake-up to solve issue! ...
This was set somehow, I disabled that and now my phone properly lights up for calls and I can actually answer them.

Another way to fix this is to call yourself on another phone while your Note 8 screen is on. When the call comes in, don't answer but slide down the notification bar and you will see your call. Adjust notifications to not block/be silent.

I went into Settings, Display, but nothing about double tap to wake-up. Samsung runs on AMOLED and that function is on other screens like Sony Xperias.
I do notice another thing going into Notifications settings and I see that the Phone app is Muted. I don't know how to get out of it.
The solution is the person who posted above. You call yourself, and swipe to unblock Silence notifications for your phone app. It's weird how it was set that way, but that's the best solution!
How do I unmute phone call notifications?
Thanks! My incomimg calls now appear on my screen!
I tired the unblock silence notifications and that still has not fixed it as well as a hard reset. Anyone else got any suggestions?
Thanks
Ian
Fix to dark screen on incoming call
Step 1: call youself
Step 2: swipe down on notification bar to view the call(usually how you would answer while dealing with this issue)
Step 3: swipe the call to the right and click the setting wheel.
Step 4: select "do not hide notifications"
Step 5: test call after doing this with the screen off, its should work.

That worked for me!
THANKS
Got the S9 today, it's happened several times where I try use the finger print reader and it says it is not responding and will not fix until I restart. The fingerprint reader works so I suspect it's not a hardware issue. Anyone else facing the same fault?
Update 13/03 - As per another similar thread, the issue has been identified as linking with Finger Sensor gestures being enable (Settings > Advanced Features > Finger Sensor Gestures) and Samsung will be issuing a fix this coming friday
Try factory reset. If that doesn't work, return the device for a replacement.
I am experiencing this as well. Did you ever solve it?
i had to use cleaner on the pixal2xl then it worked. some sort of gunk from the factory.
Me too for at least once a day. Phone restart seems to be the only quick solution for now. Make sure to report this to Samsung via Samsung Member app so it gets escalated and release the fix ASAP.
Happened for me too.
EDIT: Rebooted the device and also happened after a few minutes.

So far so good. No issues with the fingerprint sensor. If its a software issue it should be more widespread then this. I suspect a faulty unit.

So it only occured on the first day for me, since then it seems to be fine and working so not fully sure what changed as I didn't find any fix.
Same issue
I have the same issue on my new s9. Been onto Samsung support told me to wipe cache partition and monitor. No issues yet. But out of interest has anyone got apps installed that use fingerprint for authentication. My RBS app keeps crashing and uses fingerprint for login, maybe it's linked?
I had the issue with first direct it said fingerprint sensor log in cancelled
However the switching on fingerprint worked until I then got failed and restart message
I deleted the prints rebooted and 're added and since no issues touch wood

I've done it, but got the same problem after few hours. Didn't work for me.
Turn your phone off, hold the volume up, bixby and power keys for 10 secs. At the menu use the volume keys to navigate to wipe cache partition and power key to select. Once complete reboot your phone. I had gestures and scanner off when I done this. I have still not had a problem.

Check for hardware fault first by dialling *#0*# test the fingerprint scanner and check you get a pass status. If it fails you have a faulty scanner. If wiping the cache partition didn't work not sure what else you can try except factory restore. I did not restore my apps from backup/cloud but installed my apps from fresh from app store. Sometimes apps can cause the problems.

My phone just starts rebooting after software update (latest version) and only stop reboot if i remove my fingerprints
