Do you use a secured lock screen? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So what's everyone using for locking or maybe not locking their phone? Currently I haven't been using any security. Tried the fingerprint scanner for a day and it worked pretty good but when I'm out, if my phone isn't in my hand, it's in my pocket. But I know some people live by a secure lock screen. Everyone using the new fingerprint scanner or another method? Just curious.

Just the swipe action here. I'm like you. I never set my phone down. I've had swipe only on every smart phone I've had to far. I did install a PIN lock while I was in Europe for 2 months though.

I was in a car accident two weeks ago. I was a passenger in a car that hit a semi. During the accident, I dropped my phone, however, due to the driver being an idiot, the po po wouldn't allow me to retrieve my phone because they confiscated his car. (I was taken by ambulance.) Needless to say, I had some pictures on there that I would prefer for others not to see. My battery died by the time I got released from the hospital so I couldn't do a remote wipe. I didn't have my phone locked.
Lesson learned, encrypt and lock. LOL Oh, and if you get in the car with a friend, ask to see their license and insurance before getting in the car. Ugh.

I use one myself. There are some cool apps for this. If you value your information then this option is a must.

Yes, I use Tasker to automatically lock my device with a secure password once my watch is not paired with it and remove the password when it is. Got too used to trusted Bluetooth with the Droid MAXX that typing a password every time was bothersome.

+1 I like my phone private, especially if lost or stolen. :good:

Lock Times w/Tasker
I used fingerprint for about 5 days and found it fails too many times. Maybe my fingers are too dry?
You really should have your phone locked, I believe it's more important then screen protectors or cases.
I use PIN lock and Tasker w/Local Password Lock Plug-in
This allows me to set my password to activate at different times depending on what WiFi I'm connected to.
I set at Home WiFi to not lock for a much longer time. I set work for a Mid amount of time. I then have an exit task attached to both that set it to lock at a faster time when away.

I am using fingerprints too, and I'm having problems getting it to register my prints. It usually takes at least 2-3 times, sometimes more to get it to work. I do have a dry skin condition, and I am wondering if the dry skin makes it harder to recognize prints.

yeah I've tried a couple apps to do this but nothing works. Ideally, if I do use a secured lock screen, I'd like to use the fingerprint scanner. So basically when at home, no lock screen. Then as soon as my home wifi disconnects, fingerprint scanner lock screen. Any ideas?

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything in my short time looking. I almost always have my watch, so decided a password was good enough when it disconnects. Let us know if you find anything.

Try SkipLock works great I have it set for when connected to home network, Bluetooth in car or connected to my gear 2 no lock. Otherwise my fingerprint scanner is on.

In the past I rarely used any type of lock screen security, but after trying the fingerprint scanner, I now have that enabled on my phone.

I hate entering a code everytime is turn my phone on. I use "Where's MyDroid" or Cerberus to lock my phone via text message if it's lost or I forget it somewhere. They also take a picture if someone enters the wrong lock code.

I like SkipLock alot so far(doing the 7 day trial). My only question is, how do you get it to use the fingerprint reader instead of a pin/password. Im not seeing that option anywhere. TIA!

I used to always use the pattern lock but grew tired of it and I am very happy we have the fingerprint scanner now. The only thing I need to do is decide whether the Google device wipe & location feature is enough or whether I need another third party app in the event that the phone was lost which has never happened.

Thanks mademan420. I'm looking into it now and will compare with the third party options. I don't see how I would ever lose my phone but they say you should never say never so I want to cover all grounds.

You set your fingerprint reader lockscreen with a backup password then open SkipLock and make sure you made SkipLock a admin. Then open the settings in SkipLock type in your password for the lockscreen under the set pin section.

[Poll] Do you use face unlock, pattern, etc?

Just curious about what kind of security people use to unlock their phones. I played with the face unlock when I first got the GN but eventually got too impatient. I'm trying to decide if continuing to "Improve face matching" will eventually make it fast almost every time, or if I should just go ahead and switch to pattern or pin.
If you lock your phone, I found face unlock minimize touching the screen and thus less blur on screen
But sometimes I feel face unlock delay my logging into the phone in case I want to do something quick.... I still prefer pattern unlock
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I used to have no pin because I like the stock lockscreen and being able to put SMS phone etc in the slide to unlock. Now that aokp has the option for both I use pin and lockscreen. Feels like iPhone lock exactly

I use pattern..but not for security reasons at all. I got tired of pocket dialing people.

Pin. When you think of the personal information on a smartphone it is a little scary. I have droidlost installed for added protection, but I'll only use a pin because anything else is just to insecure. Most pattern locks can be guessed by smudges on the screen in just a few attempts. Face unlock can be cracked with a bad facebook pic.
While face unlock can be hacked with a picture, no one that finds your lost phone is going to know what you look like. I always thought that was an interesting criticism of the face unlock. My friends might be able to hack into my phone, but that's not really who I'm trying to secure it from.
I also used to only use slide, but I have recently become more and more aware of how much information is available to anyone holding my phone. I think identity theft would be pretty easy if I lost it

Yeah, pin and password are the only two that are very secure, but I just use slide. My mentality is, I'd be much more concerned if someone got ahold of my wallet with all my cash, ids, cards, etc, but I don't put a lock on that. I just keep it with me all the time, same as my phone. I've never lost either and don't plan to! But I do have SeekDroid just in case.
Face Unlock, just so that when I get into the homescreen, JuiceDefender has turn on my Data Connection. Oh, and too impress friends too
Face Unlock.
It is much better than nothing and I don't want to key in the PIN every time the screen is locked.
I never carry my own photo with me other than the one on my driver license which I confirmed would not unlock my phone. So I don't see why people say Face Unlock is useless.
I use a pattern, get it wrong and I have a picture of you emailed to me.
I used slide to unlocked before I installed cerberus, might as well use the features.

Actually it would be very easy to find out. Most lockscreens will splash contact information. If you find my phone you will have my name, work phone number, and multiple email addresses. That is at least three ways to google and find pictures for most people. I would argue that this is the most insecure method possible to lock up your device.

I like to use the pattern, but it gets annoying when I'm just sitting at home texting back and forth, as I have to unlock it every single time. I end up turning the security off lol. Sometimes I'm good and turn it back on when I leave the house.

Under security settings click 'Owner info' to turn it on. Shows whatever message you want to the hopefully honest person who finds your phone. Only hitch is that if the phone is plugged in it just says "charging xx%" rather than the message. Don't know if that is a bug or if Google just figured that if your phone is plugged in it is probably not lost.
I'm using a PIN because I installed unlock with WiFi and it requires it. When I'm on a registered WiFi network I just slide to unlock.

No lockscreen on Bluetooth

Hi, I have something puzzling me and I think the community will be able to help me. I've been on CyanogenMod for the longest time before buying my N5X and one of the features I miss the most is the profiles settings.
My problem is I want to disable my lockscreen automatically when connected to my car Bluetooth. To be clear, I want it gone completely, not just the security, as in when I press the power button I go straight to Play Music. I have Trigger installed but can't seem to find a way to do this. I'm also willing to buy Tasker if I'm sure it will allow me to do it.
I'm rooted and running Cataclysm ROM if it helps.
Delete your car Bluetooth and re-connect it. It should prompt you to set up a Trusted Devoice. This will disable the lockscreen while connected to this device.

Not trolling, it would do exactly what you asked, lock screen completely gone not having to swipe up. You never mentioned it was in a mount, are you charging it at all in this mount? If so, use the keep awake option in developer settings.

Butt Dialing Sister

Purchase an OP3 for my sister when they were 1st released. For some reason, her phone frequently butt calls me. I can never get a straight answer from her what she is doing when it happens, but today she said her phone was just sitting in her purse. Can anybody think of what feature/setting/option she may have toggled on or off that is causing this? I believe she is on unrooted stock 3.2.7. Thanks

I just ran a styrofoam cup over my phone with proximity wake enabled and it woke up my phone, so depending on if it's stored during commuting around like pocket or purse, it's quite likely that's the culprit. Other user's suggestions would be a good call
Well, I tried the solutions recommended here but they did not work.
To recap,
1. Turned on Pocket Mode
2. Turned off Proximity Wake
These two setting did not solve problem. Any other suggestions to keep OP3 from Butt dialing?

I'd assume security. Law Enforcement can force you to unlock your phone using your fingerprint, but they can't force you to unlock it with a pin/swipe/other method of unlocking. You can plead the fifth with a password, but not with your finger.
Reboot. On the first use of the fingerprint scanner after a reboot you're required to unlock using the method you chose during setup.

@EeZeEpEe: I'm not answering a question. I was sort of commenting about the third post, wherein the poster brings up the fact police can force you to unlock the device if you use biometrics (i.e., the fingerprint scanner). If people are really that concerned, simply reboot the P2XL. The very first time the device is unlocked using the fingerprint scanner after a reboot, the pin, password, or pattern must be entered to unlock. This is because use of the fingerprint scanner requires any one of those security options be set.
The problem was, I was at work and rushed my post, rather than taking the time to make clear what I was referring to.

I used for some time smartlock (because Pixel was paired with a smartband), so if it's connected, it was set to unlock in this case without password or fingerprint.
Otherwise, if we use fingerprint it take half second to unlock, so it's almost the same, but each user can decide what is more comfortable for him.

You may need to use gloves or other conditions where you cannot unlock the phone, then smart-lock might be useful. But as you say, in normal condition takes almost the same time. Then what is the point? You ask to remove a function that might be useful to others? Just don't use it if you don't like.

On a side note, Google changing the screen to wake with a single tap instead of double tap is equally annoying and leads to the screen accidentally turning on all the damn time. Including in your pocket.

I see how this is keeping the device unlocked (for a certain period of time) but how does the device auto lock when leaving a trusted site?
For me I have several trustes sites already with profiles made in Tasker.
My default (outside/not at home) would be where I would want my phone locked
