I want to change or spoof my mac address but can not find any working solution. I tried several apps, guides on the forum but to no avail. After changing the mac I can not authenticate to any wifi by entering the correct password.
Hope this is the correct section, thanks in advance :good:
I have an LG D855 G3, 16Gb
Sorry for my bad english
Bump! I also have the same question. Thanks.
You could give QPST a try. Back-Up the relevant partitions and edit the MAC with a hex editor and reflash the updated partition. No idea if the G3 is 100% compatible with QPST, but it definitely shows up and connects to it in certain modes/conditions.

So my college uses mac address validation for its wifi. I would try to get my phone registered, but they do not allow phones/game consoles. I want to spoof my laptops mac address to get internet on my phone.
So far I have temp rooted my phone and installed the Android SDK onto my computer, what should I do next? I looked up guides on the internet but could not get them to work. Because I am a new user I cannot post links but here is some text from the site you can google:
This is a HOW TO about how to spoof your MAC address. A MAC address is a combination of numbers and letters that are unique to your own wifi card. I am not responsible for how you use this, I am just putting it out here. Don't flood this thread with how it is illegal because there are legal uses for this (such as pen testing).

It would change the mac address temporarily but it would go back to its original right after I try to connect to wifi.
Thanks (p.s. please use noob language, I just got into the whole android thing about a week ago).
Here's a post from the Hero forum that may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686789

So would I still need to unlock the SPL (using the G2/desireZ files)? Or would I be able to skip that part?
Sounds like you would need the DZ/G2 ENG HBOOT...
I have never got this to work, anyone else have an idea on how to do this?
Hi everyone. I need to change my Mac Address on a stock rooted ICS SGS3 Sprint.
None of the apps work in changing the mac address on this device I tried them all.
To my understanding there is a .conf file somewhere in the /system/ dir.
Any help on witch directory this is located and the file name to edit?
Thanks!
Strange that I read this from you. I read your post in the "things to do with your GS3". Didnt you have a mac address spoofer in there? BTW I liked everything you made us aware of especially wifikill thanks.

Yea I had not used that app on this device yet. It used to work on my Evo. I think I may have figured this out.
This method has worked fine for me:

Make sure you are not connected to anything before hand

The command works fine and I did it while not connected to my network. However when I go to connect I get authentication failure. The mac also does not change. I wonder why. I will keep digging.
busybox ifconfig wlan0 hw ether 00:11:22:33:44:55
Thanks!
I was trying to spoof my MAC address permanently, so I followed instructions from some guys suggested at the Nexus 4 forum. I was able to edit the file (/persist/wifi/.macaddr) via Terminal and it worked.
I accidentally deleted that file a couple of days after that trying to set another MAC address. I still got internet connection and I got a new MAC.
The problem is that I want to change that MAC but I can't since the .macaddr is nowhere to be found and I don't know from where does it get the new MAC address.
Any advice?

Yes its rooted.
Could you please tell me which files needs to be modify for MAC changing.
Sorry I don't know if it is possibile to change the mac address by modifying a file. MAC Address is a physical address, that means that it can be changed only temporarily with the Linux shell command that I've written above. In the past I've used that command on Android (with a Galaxy Note 2) and it worked! Now I don't remember if I've ever used with LG G4 when I had root permission (with Lollipop), but I can't try now because I doesn't have root access anymore, because I've upgraded to MM and I don't want to unlock the bootloader for warranty purposes
PryFi from chainfire works (usually), just be sure to make a backup of all partitions before using it. Once using the app made my IMEI disappear.
I had a moto x 2nd gen and I modified a file for MAC and it was perfectly working .
So i think there must be a file for permanently changing MAC Address. In my Lg g4 t mobile have MM 6.0
I think you need a special flasher to change MAC address but I'd love to know too
hello i have a root and xposed and i installed <3 > <4> apps to change me the mac address but all of them didn't work

I would assume you can't. A mac address is fixed and cannot be changed, it comes from the NIC when it is manufactured of a computer and whatever the equivalent is for a phone. I guess root apps might be able to emulate a mac address?

Sure you can spoof Mac. Hard coded doesn't matter.
There are several ways to spoof. Here is one way: http://www.gohacking.com/spoof-mac-address-on-android-phones/
You can also edit a file with root access but I can't remember the file name. I will see if I can't find it.

Edit:. This thread refers back to XDA from another forum but talks about editing the file. Just scroll down to answer. (I haven't tried it yet, so OP3 may have a different file...you will need to try it out)

Check this video, it's basically changing the wlan_mac.bin file. But you have to use an app called nethunter to reset the Mac in order to change it.
This successfully worked on my 3T!
