[Q] Accidentally deleted .macaddr file - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I was trying to spoof my MAC address permanently, so I followed instructions from some guys suggested at the Nexus 4 forum. I was able to edit the file (/persist/wifi/.macaddr) via Terminal and it worked.
I accidentally deleted that file a couple of days after that trying to set another MAC address. I still got internet connection and I got a new MAC.
The problem is that I want to change that MAC but I can't since the .macaddr is nowhere to be found and I don't know from where does it get the new MAC address.
Any advice?

[Q] Mac Spoofing help needed

So my college uses mac address validation for its wifi. I would try to get my phone registered, but they do not allow phones/game consoles. I want to spoof my laptops mac address to get internet on my phone.
So far I have temp rooted my phone and installed the Android SDK onto my computer, what should I do next? I looked up guides on the internet but could not get them to work. Because I am a new user I cannot post links but here is some text from the site you can google:
This is a HOW TO about how to spoof your MAC address. A MAC address is a combination of numbers and letters that are unique to your own wifi card. I am not responsible for how you use this, I am just putting it out here. Don't flood this thread with how it is illegal because there are legal uses for this (such as pen testing).

It would change the mac address temporarily but it would go back to its original right after I try to connect to wifi.
Thanks (p.s. please use noob language, I just got into the whole android thing about a week ago).
Here's a post from the Hero forum that may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686789
WARNING: do not flash anything from that thread
So would I still need to unlock the SPL (using the G2/desireZ files)? Or would I be able to skip that part?
Sounds like you would need the DZ/G2 ENG HBOOT...
I have never got this to work, anyone else have an idea on how to do this?

Modifying the MAC address...

Before I get an upgrade.
I want to see if i can try and flash my I9000 (galaxy s I) to a new MAC address...
Anyone know what's involved? I've tried the software mods, I even used ADB and modified it's "MAC" address, but it's not a perm
solution, basically I want to clone a NIC (wifi) MAC address.
Any pointers? - Cheers folks.

I would assume you can't. A mac address is fixed and cannot be changed, it comes from the NIC when it is manufactured of a computer and whatever the equivalent is for a phone. I guess root apps might be able to emulate a mac address?

Sure you can spoof Mac. Hard coded doesn't matter.
There are several ways to spoof. Here is one way: http://www.gohacking.com/spoof-mac-address-on-android-phones/
You can also edit a file with root access but I can't remember the file name. I will see if I can't find it.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Edit:. This thread refers back to XDA from another forum but talks about editing the file. Just scroll down to answer. (I haven't tried it yet, so OP3 may have a different file...you will need to try it out)

Check this video, it's basically changing the wlan_mac.bin file. But you have to use an app called nethunter to reset the Mac in order to change it.
This successfully worked on my 3T!

modifying mac address (Viper Rom 3.20) (android 6.0.1)

Ok so essentially im trying to spoof my mac address on my newly purchased verizon HTC 10 its a great phone but of course i got caught up in how pretty the phone was and purchased it without realizing that Verizon prevents you from unlocking the bootloader ( cant say i'm surprised it is verizon after all ) no big deal so i purchased sunshine to get s-off which worked very well, flashed twrp recovery and easily installed viper rom, after installing all my apps, i thought that surely spoofing my mac would be no problem, after all i spoofed the mac on my jailbroken iphone with a simple terminal command that modifed the mac in NVRAM. Then the great train wreak began, first i started with the play store apps which would spoof the mac however they failed to authenticate with any network that had any kind of security so that was a no-go, then i used busy-box commands to try and attempt to spoof the mac same issue failed to authenticate, so then i just figured id go into the filesystem and modify some files, however every tutorial i could find pointed to a /efs directory which was not present at all or a /persist directory which was also not present there were a few other directories none of which i could find. Eventually i just got so pissed i took the wifi firmware files ( and if anyone was wondering the model of the chip is a bcm 4359 which is apparently a really good chip ) and went into a hex editor and found macaddr=%2 and changed %2 to equal the mac im trying to spoof. Of course when i applied the modified firmware files the wifi failed to turn on at all, so i thought maybe its the viper rom, perhaps it lacks directorys that a stock 6.0.1 rom does, but after restoring my backup its the exact same root directory as viper, what i don't understand is why its so easy too spoof a mac address on an IOS DEVICE, but on an open source operating system such as android its giving me this much trouble, maybe i'm just stupid and missing something really obvious but surly it cant be this difficult to spoof a mac on android, any help would be greatly appreciated.

MAC Address changed after Flashing Roms

I don't know whether anyone faced this problem or not.....
My Phone's MAC ID has changed after flashing a custom ROM.Since my Wifi uses MAC ID filtering, I'm not able to connect to my office wifi.
I tried flashing the stock ROM Using QPST..,But no luck...
If you remember your old MAC address then you can restore it using this Guide.
Use your phone's backed-up qcn file to edit the MAC hexadecimal.
