Not cheap.
But it wasn't hard at ALL on G2. I've changed around 5 screens on friends' G2's, but they've bought the LCD+Digitizer+Frame. It's just a matter to take the stuff from the old frame and reinstall it on the new frame. Easy peasy

So me, the cluts that I am, dropped my phone, and now there is a huge crack in the screen. FML. Anyway, the repair place told me it would cost $199 to replace it, as they need to replace the LCD as well, is this correct?
Cheers

I believe they design the Gorilla Glass on the phone to shatter but leave the contents of the LCD screen itself intact. Can you still use the screen? Meaning do the touch capabilities work?

If thats the case, I think that whoever your going through to fix it is just trying to rip you off. The screen costs 30$ and they will charge you 170$ for the manual labor. If it were me I would just buy a screen off of amazon if they have it or another site and fix it myself. But you don't want to hurt the contents of the phone either. Up to you ultimately.

So would say, something like this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Touc...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item1e6e1fbad4
be okay?
Seems legitimate to me. But I'd look and see if there are any videos on youtube or anything like that of people changing it so you know exactly what to do. Since the phone has a unibody case; there might be some temperamental pieces that come off.

The LCD screen is glued to the glass, it isn't possible to detached the LCD screen from the glass without damaging the LCD or leaving glue residue that will just make for a messy reuse of the LCD panel.
You can see what is involved replacing the screen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5TRf0REyMM

Hey guys,
So, I did the unthinkable and dropped my phone today. The screen cracked, but it still works. So I don't think I need a full digitizer, and I see the screens going on ebay for 20 bucks, but they're for the international model. Would just the glass part of the screen fit my phone?

Price about USD200 for the whole screen, you can't buy just the glass. Search youtube for instructions.
Damn. I was hoping that wouldn't be the answer.

sometime once in a life time you gonna have to accept the fact:fingers-crossed:
also if you decide to do the replacement, it's best to get a replacement with the metal base, cost alittle more but save the trouble of complicated installation, time and a cleaner finish.
I actually contacted samsung.
The replacement digitizer is over 200 everywhere I look, samsung is going to repair it completely for 178. Still sucks, but it's better I suppose.
Insure it and pay 100 for a new phone

Yeah the two parts are fused together. I read some stuff about cheap/fake gorrila glass units on ebay so I sent mine straight to Samsung for repair. Cost 180$ including shipping to and from. Even the "oem" screen digitizers cost 200–300 on Amazon or cell repair sites.

Sorry to hear that. You can get part and fix it yourself. Save some buck or take it to bestbuy or radioshack.
I am also sending mine in for fixing. What I would like to know is if they will replace the metal frame that goes around the phone mine has a big dent from the fall I think its called the bezel? Anyone know if this gets replaced when samsaung fixes the screen.

Yeah it took a good week. It looks and feels like brand new. They even replaced the button at the bottom. And about the comment of just getting good a refurbished one in return... Check your serial afterward. I got my original phone back. And to folks who offer to fix these my main concern is genuine oem parts. Some ppl have said after they fix there's the phone simply doesn't feel like it's oem state.
Dose anyone know if I can replace only the digitizer?? All the tutorials I see online is replacement of LCD and Digitizer..
Digitizers are $25 on ebay Digitizer and LCDs are over $200...
After further investigation I found out why you can't replace just the glass..

Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Repair
Acutally there are several tutorials on just replacing the screen. It is a bit tedious and will require patience but is very doable. From all I see, the outer metal/chrome/etc frame is part of the digitizer is and will not be part of the screen only replacement. Screen assemblies alone are around $30 on Ebay

link? I need one now.
the price for the replace screen is so expensive
YOU CANNOT JUST REPLACE THE GLASS OR JUST REPLACE THE LCD! THEY ARE FUSED TOGETHER!
IN ORDER TO UNFUSE THEM YOU NEED AN OVEN DESIGNED JUST FOR THAT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN!
Buying just the glass is a scam and will not work!!!!!!!! YOU MUST BUY THE GLASS WITH THE LCD FUSED TO IT ALREADY!
I have a I927 with a cracked LCD. Power's on but does not display anything. It seems the repairing the screen is'nt worth the cost as the resale on the device is the same price as the replacing the LCD. I've tried selling locally and no one wants it. Anyone have any good ideas on how to re-purpose it?

I would suggest either putting it on ebay as a parts phone or looking for a bricked phone that someone is selling and swap out screens. That's what I would do.

a new screen is only 100 and i replaced my screen myself and if anyone is willing to pay me to fix theirs just order the new screen and send me the phone and mail the screen to me if you like and i would fix it for a reasonable price
Weirdly I only broke the LCD portion of the screen. The digitizer still works and it does recognize touch, I only need to replace the LCD. is there an easy way to do this or is it fused to the digitizer?

Just a few days ago there was a guy looking for digitizer only... So, I'll just quote myself.
As was written on iFixit
The front glass is adhered to the display frame, meaning you'll need a heat gun to get the LCD out—or replace the whole front panel.

The all above is true unless you have a heat gun or someone who has it and knows what to do. In service center, I think, they'll just replace the whole front panel with glass and LCD.
It's possible to replace one without replacing the other. However, they are initially stuck together and separating them is a pain and sort of difficult if you are not familiar with these types of repair. Our repair centers, indeed, replace the entire assembly.
I went ahead and ordered the LCD+digitizer from repairs universe.. should arrive in a day or two. $200 man, I essentially spent almost $500 on this tablet, but I love it, so I guess it's worth it.

200$ ? you could buy a new one and sell this one for chap ..
Ouch that is terrible. Yeah for $200, it may have been better to sell the broken one for parts and get a brand new one.

yea but your repair center denied me when I called and tried to get it replaced so what good does that do for someone like me who now is screwed and has to either buy a whole new unit or go to a third party to have it fixed.
