Location keeps turning off on its on? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my Location Service keeps turning off after the phone sits idle for a while. I turned off connection optimizer and I still have this problem. Is there some setting somewhere doing this? Anyone else having this issue. My wife's note 4 doesn't do it.

It should turn off if nothing is needing it. Then turn on when an app request your location. It is now supposed to be an on demand function to save on the battery.

Problem is sometimes it doesn't turn back on and I get an annoying nagging pop-up when accessing something that needs it.

+1 Very, very annoying, and it interferes with Weather apps and Weather watchfaces for Android Wear.

My wife's Note 4 has this issue. I doubt there's anything simple that can fix it since anything that forces the GPS to stay on (against the wishes of the phone) will surely drain the phone to death.
HOWEVER, has anyone noticed if the update to Lollipop helped fix this issue? Did they make the location setting idle and restart properly?

I had this problem (fully stock) post-lollipop as well. I spent a couple of weeks messing with it and never found the root cause or a fix.
A full wipe/factory restore fixed it for me.
Good luck.

Screen turns on periodically

From what I can tell this is a common problem, but I haven't found a fix yet. My screen turns itself on at completely "random" intervals, and it's destroying my battery life. It's been doing this since ICS roms.
Any common fixes out there?
Usually it would be a rogue app turning the phone on. Try uninstalling some "suspicious" apps and see if that helps.

You either have a rogue app or a ghost is messing with you. I have seen that happen with Better Battery Stats because it was asking for root & kept waking the phone up. If you don't have that app get it and find out what is waking your phone up. If you have a ghost you should move, seeks a spiritual guide, or an exorcist (sanctioned by the church).
It's most likely an app. Just about the same happens with me when I use widget locker. After turning off the screen it would always turn back on so I had to keep turning it off twice.

Every app that replaces or integrates into the lockscreen is a good place to start. One of the "primary suspects" is/was (?) Tiny Flashlight with the "shake" feature enabled.
Does your phone think it's charging when the screen turns on? If yes, then this is a well known hardware issue with USB board.
I had this issue and had to send my phone for repair to fix it.

It was happening before i got BBS, but yes BBS would constantly ask for root and wake the phone as well so i uninstalled. Any fix for this? New SU maybe?

Used to, but i haven't noticed this one since a few ROMs ago..

Some phone issues

Every first time (locking phone to redo it also happens) that I put in my pattern unlock, it always stop by itself before I'm done putting in the pattern. I am rooted but i'm not using a custom rom.
This could be a tmobile problem but my friend and an ex said they text me a couple of times before but I never received any text messages. I'm using the stock messaging app. This happened yesterday and I still never seen the texts. This is probably happening with sent texts but I'm not sure. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia if anyone else is having similar problems in the area.
I also have a calling problem where I'd call someone sometimes and it says they pick up but they really didn't and I don't hear anything. I think it's a problem with wifi being on but this also happened on my old side kick phone '08 model before i upgraded to this phone which doesn't have wifi.
bump. no one?
I just exchanged my phone yesterday and it's still having the same problems.
Bump again.. I reset my phone and the problems (mainly the pattern and unsure of other problems) eventually comes back.
No one is having this problem? Can anyone even try to reproduce the problem So I know that my tmobile place doesn't have a bunch of defects. I mean if I wait a Second or two before entering the pattern then it would work.
I also notice that there is maybe a screen/touch issue at the bottom right corner of the phone. I could see the issue with multi touch vis test in the play store.
I sometime have a problem with air view writing by itself and having the s note freeze up.
Wait till the lakers game is done homie!

I also noticed a problem with calls not being able to be picked up. I'll have to constantly slide the accept button before it answers.
I think there's also a problem with calls being dropped on wifi.
Airview sometimes draw by itself.
Bump again.. there's also a problem where screen is timing out too quickly. Even when I changed it to 30 seconds, it still times out at 15.
The battery also dies pretty quickly with occasional texting using the stock app. It goes from 100% at 8am to 68% by 2pm. People also have a problem hearing me when they call me or I call them and I'm on speaker phone. Even when I put my mouth closer to the mic they still can't hear me
Sounds like a wifi calling issue, it really doesn't work well for me, even on my old HTC Sensation I experienced the same exact thing. Wifi calling is enabled by default check in your settings menu and disabe it. As far asyour battery issues are concerned it sounds like there is something running in the backround draining your battery. Check to see if your phone is sleeping when it should be. Check all of your settings because it sounds like something is draining your battery. If you try all of this and still have a problem, go exchange it, perhaps you have a faulty unit. I hope this helps. The only time I have had the issues with calls as you've described it was because of wifi calling..

Did you have any of the same issues above?

I don't use pattern unlock so I cannot confirm that issue. Battery life for me is outstanding, I did have an issue with it on the first day of use but it was an app causing it to be awake constantly. I uninstalled the app and my battery life is incredible 6+ hours of screen and calls and it still lasts forever. I am not aware of any missed texts. Wifi calling is just awful so I don't use it and I have no problem making or receiving calls and texts even when I have a week signal. Compared yo my Sensation this is a huge upgrade and I am not having any issues.

Oh I see. Could you try out the pattern unlock to see if it's a big? What was the app? My phone seem to last longer if I play with it more lol.

Samsung has an update for this phone? Because most of the problems also appeared when I didn't root it.

Friendcaster was the app. Sure, I will enable pattern lock and see if I have the issue you're experiencing.

Does anyone have a problem where you would constantly have to click the back button in the Web browser to make it go back?

Bump again.. is nobody having any of the problems that I posted about?
Is anyone having a problem where the screen wouldn't time out when you put it next to your ear while you're on a phone call?
bump again..
I just got my phone exchanged through the mail and it's still having the same issues.
Also there are these weird markings/dots on the inside of my screen. Maybe it's a lcd bleed/screen issue. It appeared in my past couple of exchanged devices. It wouldn't go away and I usually see it more clearer when I'm using the phone at night or on certain websites/games/etc that has the right lighting for it.
Once again. Bump..

New Samsung Link draining battery

Is anyone else having this issue? It was fine when it was Allcast. After it updated to Link it's a really bad drain.
Nope I never use all cast though. I'd just freeze it. Unless you use it.

I never use it either. I'm going to freeze it, later. It's like it's constantly trying to find something to sync to on its own.

Yea, it was turned off. I uninstalled the update and decided not have the battery drain now. There seems to be something wrong with the update.

Battery drain with Samsunglink
I am facing the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3. There are no ways to stop the application which is running in the background. even if you force it stop, it has no effect.

Got no idea else than uninstalling the update. Uninstalling update successfully solved the problem of battery drainage..
I uninstalled my Samsung apps, which I never use anyway and disabled what I can and that seems to have fixed the issue.

I just noticed this problem today. I also noticed that the quick settings notification for Allshare isn't displaying correctly. It's showing that Allshare is off but when you dive (deeply) into the settings you can see that it's still active. I made sure it was switched off and I'll see if this fixes the battery drain.

Strange wifi problem after kitkat upgrade?

After upgraded to kitkat, I noticed wifi icon at status bar will be missing after many days. Wifi will indicates as off and it couldn't be turned on. YET wifi is working fine. The only way to clear is to reboot. Anyone seen this?

I have the issue too. Anyone have any idea how to fix? Thanks.
I noticed the same thing too. Turning airplane mode on and off fixes it for me. I just got the tablet a few days ago, so I havent done much testing, but do you guys have " turn wifi off during sleep" setting on in the advanced wifi menu? I was suspecting that to be the culprit.
I realized this thread is nearly a year old, but I just bought this (used) Note tablet, and experienced the exact symptoms as described by the other posters. The wifi issue happens almost every time my tablet sleeps for more than a hour. Toggling airplane mode on/off fixes the issue, only temporarily, until the next sleep. I am wondering if there are any clues to what causes the issue.
Is it a bug in the factory rom, or something that I installed?
Here is the info of my tablet:
- US model SM-P600 (XAR), with latest stock rom UEUCOB1
- Rooted by TWRP 2.8.5.1
- Xposed installed with these modules:
Wanam
No Wake of Charge for S5, and
App Settings (only change rotation setting for one 3rd party app).
I am considering do a factory reset and setting it up again from scratch. But I want to hear if others are experiencing this issue even with 100% stock (non-rooted) rom. By the way, the issue only happens when you set Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to either "Never" or "Only when plugged in". I would really appreciate someone with non-rooted rom letting me know if this happens to them when they set their tablets to allow Wifi to sleep with tablet.

WiFi refuses to stay on!!

Hellu! For some reason my WiFi will not stay on, in fact it just keeps going crazy! I noticed the button keeps turning off then on consistently. There was an update a few weeks ago, and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. Restarting doesn't fix it, and taking the battery out works every now and then. Is anyone else having this problem? Data works fine, but it goes on and off because the WiFi keeps switching on and off. ??https://vimeo.com/194744365
