Strange wifi problem after kitkat upgrade? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

After upgraded to kitkat, I noticed wifi icon at status bar will be missing after many days. Wifi will indicates as off and it couldn't be turned on. YET wifi is working fine. The only way to clear is to reboot. Anyone seen this?

I have the issue too. Anyone have any idea how to fix? Thanks.

I noticed the same thing too. Turning airplane mode on and off fixes it for me. I just got the tablet a few days ago, so I havent done much testing, but do you guys have " turn wifi off during sleep" setting on in the advanced wifi menu? I was suspecting that to be the culprit.

I realized this thread is nearly a year old, but I just bought this (used) Note tablet, and experienced the exact symptoms as described by the other posters. The wifi issue happens almost every time my tablet sleeps for more than a hour. Toggling airplane mode on/off fixes the issue, only temporarily, until the next sleep. I am wondering if there are any clues to what causes the issue.
Is it a bug in the factory rom, or something that I installed?
Here is the info of my tablet:
- US model SM-P600 (XAR), with latest stock rom UEUCOB1
- Rooted by TWRP 2.8.5.1
- Xposed installed with these modules:
Wanam
No Wake of Charge for S5, and
App Settings (only change rotation setting for one 3rd party app).
I am considering do a factory reset and setting it up again from scratch. But I want to hear if others are experiencing this issue even with 100% stock (non-rooted) rom. By the way, the issue only happens when you set Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to either "Never" or "Only when plugged in". I would really appreciate someone with non-rooted rom letting me know if this happens to them when they set their tablets to allow Wifi to sleep with tablet.

Galaxy Nexus Wi-Fi Goes to Sleep even when always on is checked in the menu options.

Did anybody notice their WiFi going to sleep even when I have "always" checked in the "Keep WiFi on during sleep" advanced menu option for WiFi? I'm using Groove IP as my voip connection and need my WiFi to be on constantly in order to receive calls, however, whenever the phone goes to sleep mode, my WiFi connection turns off and when I wake the phone it takes a couple of seconds for WiFi to turn back on and then my voip app signs back in.
Does anyone have a suggestion for this issue?
P.S. I have a GSM unlocked version of Galaxy Nexus
Thanks
I have the exact same issue and it's driving me nuts. First I thought it's because I'm using a custom ROM, now I restored everything to stock 4.01 and I still get the same issue.
Could rooting be the cause?
It happens to me to when I'm streaming videos from phone to my tv, as soon as screen goes off on the phone within a few mins the wifi will go off or slow down considerably.

man, that's already the 3rd if not 4th thread abut this issue, one being opened by myself...
glad that I'm not the only one...
at beginning I thought it'd be a faulty/bent usb connector, as experienced by others, but since I am redaing of others with the same problem after upgrading, then it cannot be...
have you install;ed the OTA or started from cratch? have you cleaned dalvik cache? (I did with no avail) do you see a pattern in your wakeups? is it every x minutes? is it at random?
as regards me, it happens also when wifi and 3g and sync is off (but 2g on, that is I can only receive calls), so it cannot be anything related to signals...
I have installed BetterBatteryStats and will be sending a couple of resports to the developer trying to see if he can understand what is going on and what wakes up the phone...
I did a completely clean install... Wipe data and cache... Installed the OTA rom available on developers section.
Do tell me if you are able to find a solution.

Check this bugreport:

Yeah, the same thing happens to me. VZW Toro. Stock AOSP Rom. I think it's related to daydream. It didn't start happening until I enabled that functionality.

I don't have wechat and the problem is there so no it's not wechat
I am in the same boat, Thegios.
No Wechat... No Daydream.
I have noticed my screen waking about every 10-15 minutes. It only happens when connected to my Wifi. My N7 does not wake at all. I have wiped the Cache and noticed my "Android System" hogging my battery stats.
I am trying to search what Apps I have settings for something like "sync only on wifi"... from there I should be able to find what is turning the screen on. I have BetterBattery Stats installed, and am trying to dig a little deeper there as well.

cant b wifi, , mine wakes up also when wifi is off and 3g is off and sync is off
I have tried with bbs as well but found notjing wrong
i've read all the reports of bugs, and the people with issues seem to have flashed the stock AOSP rom.. i dont have any of the issues described and the way i installed 4.2 was first flashing the takju 4.1.2 with nexus toolkit and then i got the 4.2 OTA from "about phone"->update.. oh and i have daydream activated.
For those of you with high android system usage, are you downloading music from Google pay music for offline usage? I did and I got this sudden increase. this has never happened to my phone before. Maybe Google play music needs update?

My problem is resolved by removing WeChat and daydream disabled...waited for like an hour and confirmed about the problem solution that worked for me.
You can try disabling that sleep mode apps in Apps settings.

Your problem may have been resolved but wechat and daydream is not the solution to this as many of us aren't using either and still having this issue. I think I'm going back to bone stock 4.1.2 and going to let the OTA upgrade me to 4.2 and see what happens.
wechat is NOT the solution people, as the Google Code page suggest this is a sync issue that could be caused by a number of apps.

WiFi turns off when screen is off?

Hello, i'm using CyanogenMod 10.1, but i had the same problem with AOKP.
The problem is that, when i put in standby my phone for a long time, Wifi turns off (or it just disconnects, that's still not ok)...
It takes a while, i mean, if it's in standby for 5 minutes or less, everything seems ok, but after a while (don't know for sure how long), when i wake it, i find that it was disconnected. The problem is that i don't have a flat data plan so when i'm at home i have to choose if use my limited data or not receive network notifications...
Any solution?

Try turning off "Avoid Poor Connections".. and
Turn off "Wifi Optimization".
R: WiFi turns off when screen is off?
I'm trying... Does disabling wifi optimization make it a lot more battery hungry?

me too have the same problem in my xperia ray
but iam using cyanogenmod 9.1.0 stable version...
but when the screen is off for some minutes the wifi turns off even i gave keep wifi on during sleep in wifi advanced settings
I often have the same problem. I've tried fixing it with most combination of those WiFi settings, in both stock and CM10.1 and it still happens. I think it might be something with the phone, but if anyone knows of a way to fix it, that would be great.
WiFi is known issue on 4.2.2 ROM.

[Q] KK ND3 - WiFi issue

Can someone please help. Background: I flashed the new French ND3 Rom and I'm using the MJ5 bootloader.
Everything is working fine, except for one issue that I cannot resolve:
When the phone wakes from a long sleep (More than an hour), the WiFi does not switch on automatically. If I switch WiFi on via the notification panel toggle or via the settings menu, then WiFi seems to freeze between on and off. The WiFi toggle is dimmed (neither fully on, nor fully off).
The only way to activate WiFi at that point is to do one of the following:
1 Airplane mode - toggle on then off.
2 WiFi hot-spot - toggle on then off.
3 Reboot.
I have already wiped dalvik and cache. I have re-installed the Rom. I have disabled some key apps, including Xposed framework. I have "forgotten" and recreated the WiFi network SSIDs. None of these made any difference. I tried a Google search, with no luck on this specific issue.
UPDATE: I have also reverted to the modern that I used with 4.3, but that did not solve the problem either.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Dennis.
Same here, flashed 4.4.2 through odin 3.09 over official 4.3 (MK9 bootloader). Rom is running just fine except for this wifi problem and also samsung wallet comes preinstalled but when entering the app and try to install it nothing happens.

No such problem..... i had issues using philz... later i switched to twrp cleaned everythin rom ,dalvik, cache... and then i patched aio fixes... and everythin seemed to wrk fine
As i mentioned i am using stock 4.4.2 with stock recovery, and as dennis mentioned in the 1st post he did a wipe with no succes, so not really sure that wiping the system will really work but 10x anyway

Well, I managed to find a workaround: set WiFi to "always" in the "keep WiFi on during sleep" setting in the WiFi advanced menu.
I did this about 15 hours ago and have not had a freeze since. ?
I know that it pushes up battery consumption marginally, but it is good enough for now - much better than the annoying freeze?

Maybe the option "keep wifi during sleep" is set to never (increases data usage)

Is it the rom's bug? There is not this problem when i use omni rom.:silly:
wifi working again
I woke up this morning to find that my wifi is working again (till now) even though the keep wi-fi during sleep was set to never the phone managed to connect to my home wireless network (the sleep interval was at least 7 hours). This was possible after 2 factory data resets. The only problem i am facing now is with Samsung wallet which refuses to install on my phone.

Location keeps turning off on its on?

So my Location Service keeps turning off after the phone sits idle for a while. I turned off connection optimizer and I still have this problem. Is there some setting somewhere doing this? Anyone else having this issue. My wife's note 4 doesn't do it.

It should turn off if nothing is needing it. Then turn on when an app request your location. It is now supposed to be an on demand function to save on the battery.
Problem is sometimes it doesn't turn back on and I get an annoying nagging pop-up when accessing something that needs it.

My wife's Note 4 has this issue. I doubt there's anything simple that can fix it since anything that forces the GPS to stay on (against the wishes of the phone) will surely drain the phone to death.
HOWEVER, has anyone noticed if the update to Lollipop helped fix this issue? Did they make the location setting idle and restart properly?
I had this problem (fully stock) post-lollipop as well. I spent a couple of weeks messing with it and never found the root cause or a fix.
A full wipe/factory restore fixed it for me.
Good luck.
