Flashing New Firmware - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so after I update to a new firmware, does it stay with me after flashing a different rom? Or do I have to update to the newest firmware every time I flash a new rom?

You don't have to reflash firmware.

Well, that depends on the Rom.
If the Rom you'll install requires a new firmware then the answer is Yes.
Most Rom upgrades do not requiere firmware upgrade, that is why you need to read thr thread of the Rom.
Example: viper Rom. V1 to v2 requiered new firmwar, v2 to v3 required upgrade as well. 3.0.1 to 3.1.0 was a minor upgrade so no firmware upgrade was required.

Ummm... he's asking if he has to RE-FLASH the same firmware after a ROM update, not asking if he has to update his firmware to flash a new version ROM.
So yes, the answer is no.

That depends on the ROM.

Yeah, you got it. I just wanted to know if the firmware would "stick" after flashing a new Rom.

[Q] Can I install ARHD 3.0.0 on my 1.28.1400.5 ?

Yeees I am sorry but my head is going to explode soon from trying to single reasonable post about this matter.
So I have been trying to read the threads about instaling the ARHD rom for One X but I am just so confused right now, add to that my own confusion with the abilities of my China HTC.
First, do I have to flash the 1.26.401.2 firmware package to be able to install this ROM? My build is 1.28.1400.5 which is a China one. Can I even install this rom?
Second, If I dont have to install the firmware do I just perform SuperWipe and flash the ROM?
Thanks!

Correct, just superwipe and flash, the 1.26 firmware was only needed for pre 1.26 shipped phones

Totally not a stupid question. The ROMs do not have modems installed it comes from you stock rom or the Over The Air update from the carrier. You can download and flash them separately and to any version you desire.

Dev Editions: i will have a flashable firmware package when we can pull the MJE tar from kies/update assistant on a retail. however this works fine with our current modems because we can update kernels retails cannot unless they take ota

Hey Dutch,
So just to make sure that I understand this response correctly, if I back up my current stock slot [Running B4 in Stock slot], flash this ROM over it, then restore the backup I just made, would I pretty much be all set with the JE update?
Thanks!

Flashing via safestrap only updates the framework to the latest build so I believe you'd still have the old kernel and modem. As far as I know, (correct me if I'm wrong @beanstown106), since our bootloader is locked we have to use Odin to flash modems & kernels.

Gah,...that's a bummer.
I'm looking at how to unroot and was worried I'd softbrick the phone or something if I flashed an older/incompatible firmware
I made a backup of my original stock TW installation, but when I hit the Update button in About Phone, my Settings app just force closes and stops responding.

Is it ok to install 4.2.2 Custom roms on XXBMD1 4.1.2 Note 8?

I realized that MD1 doesn't have any 4.2.2 upgrades, and I see a lot of devs are posting their custom roms on 4.2.2
I see the end of the version is different from what I got. I have a Hong Kong N5100 version right now. Restored to original stock rom.
Is it safe to install the custom rom such as Civz made?
I need an answer before I install it.
please help!

Umm.. What I'm confused right now is that I don't need to be 4.2.2 to use X-note roms or Civz roms?
I guess I should give a try tomorrow..

That's a multi-carrier ROM. Yes you can flash it.
I saw the multixarrier option through aroma but I get confused with it saying you must be on only 4.4.4 firmware. It means 4.4.4 or does it mean 4.4 and up

It means at least 4.4.4. You will be fine with Lolly firmware.
