[Q] G3 = The best choice under 400€ ? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
After two years of using my LG 4X HD, I want at the end of the year a new phone, but not above 400€ (the best is 350€).
I enjoyed my LG experience with the P880, so the LG G3 interest me.
But I want to be sure that it's the best phone I can find for my budget. I want a phone very responsive, fluid, good autonomy who take good picture with a nice screen... I want a good phone for the next 2 years.
To be honest G3's users, do you really recommend this phone ? It's the best choice under 400€ at the end of 2014 ?
Thank you and have a nice Sunday.

Its the G3 forum - yes we recommend this phone
Good picture - tick
Good screen - tick
Good camera - tick
Fluid and responsive - tick (though im using NOVA as LG Home can lag a tad)

Pretty much this. Everyone here owns this phone for a reason. If you ask if the iPhone 6 is worth it on an Apple forum you will be convinced to buy an iPhone. Same goes for HTC one m8 or any other mobile.

Yes but I want to be sure it's the best for 350-400€, if some guys here have try another 2014's flagship I want their opinions.
I'm not sure the G3 will still be good in 2 years in fault of his QHD screen who probably slow the phone.

Right.....

A great phone in general, but autonomy suck, freeze and LG not support it during long time...
Choose a phone in 2014 is a real epic battle, so many good phone, I really like LG G3, but Xperia Z2 look good too, Honor 6 is not expensive and good.
LG G3 16Go, with "only" 2Go of RAM is sufficient ?

[Q] How happy are you with your LG Optimus G Pro?

Dear fellow forum users,
I'm currently evaluating a new Android phone. I'm pondering between the Optimus G Pro and waiting for the G2.
What are your experiences and your level of satisfaction with this phone running LG stock Android? And how active do you think is the community regarding custom ROMs? (I prefer as close to Nexus-like Android as possible).
Thanks for your feedback.

HI Buddy,
G2 has a better camera & slightly better viewing angle. The jelly bean 4.2.2 which is ported on G2 will soon be out in market as soon as G2 start retailing. then you can port that rom to GPRO. Our wonderful Devs are already waitng for that.
Now everything is almost same (Snapdragon 800 & 600 doesnt differ in real life scenario, user experience is almost same).
GPRO is cheaper & has a big screen, Now if you dont want to pay extra only for a OIS camera then go checkout with GPRO.
Have a nice day !!!!

Is OIS really that effective in normal camera shoots?
Does it make significant difference?
I'm thinkimg, should I or shouldI not go for G2 from my G Pro just for the OIS in G2?

Hi Kelvin,
OIS plays a significant role when you are taking a picture of moving object & reduces the blurr. It also depends of the capabilities of the Photographer.
Now it depends how often you use this feature(or how much it matters to you). for example: if you shoot pictures while you drive or during a footbal match. it will be a handy feature. Now it depends what you are going to do with your pics at the end of the day just sharing on social media,
From my personal point of view this feature doesnt matter a lot on a phone. because whenever i am on a vacation or travel i usualy prefer to take my Digital Camera with me.
Just note down your requirement & compare. This will be helpful to decide.

Got it!
That's good advice! :good:
Thanks, buddy!
Confused!!
For the life of me, I could not decide between the G2 and the G Pro. I initially wanted the G Pro for the big screen, but then because the specs of the G2 are more 'future proof', I went with that.
In the back of my mind, I still want the G Pro, and still have time to swap my G2 for it. Do you think the G Pro (Snapdragon 600) power will last 3 years and not cause lag/stutter? Do you think app developers can even keep up with this constant hardware update? Snapdragon 600 should still be powerful enough for years to come, no? Reason being, I'm not the type to buy a phone every year, and I like to keep mine for at least 3 years.
Thanks!

The direction Android is headed is toward better optimization. KitKat makes even old phones seem fast. I have KitKat running on my old Galaxy S3 with only 1GB of RAM and a slower Exynos processor, and it flies. Zero lag.
Three years from now, the LG OG Pro will still be a great phone, and it will probably still be running 4.1.2 officially, sad to say, but you aren't limited to stock ROMs, thankfully.

So, so you think Kit Kat will come to the Optimus G Pro? It is still fairly new. If not, would there be an unofficial Kit Kat release for it? If so, would it be stable enough?
Thanks!

I don't understand your confusion, to me the choice is extremely simple:
1. Does the phone have enough storage?
To me even 32GB (maximum available for G2) is very limiting cause I take videos a lot and keep a lot of music on my device. Optimus G Pro has a SD card slot. Also, meenova or similar is not an option to me because I keep my phones in my pockets and something protruding from the USB socket will surely destroy that socket very soon.
2. Does the phone have a replaceable battery?
I am a very heavy user and current phones really don't stand a chance in terms of battery lifespan, current batteries have a service life which is not sufficient to me (I already killed and replaced one battery on my Galaxy Note within a year due to normal wear). Replacing a battery at a service center for an undisclosed amount of money (usually more than 50 EUR) is absolutely unacceptable to me when I could buy a battery off-the-shelf for 15 EUR and replace it myself in phones with user-replaceable batteries.
3. Is the phone too big to handle and carry?
Since I moved from a SE Xperia Arc S to a Galaxy Note I found out that to me the bigger screen size is a lot more important than the ability to handle the phone with one hand.
The performance margin between the two would be marginal in most scenarios (even to me as a heavy user) and the possible future updates are almost a non-issue because manufacturers tend to stop software support for their phones before the next meaningful Android upgrade has emerged (most Android version upgrades are too incremental to me to make or break the deal, at least since 4.1).
they both great you wont be disappointed
camper the specs and decide
i choose GPro cos:
cost even for 32GB
5.5"
sdcard / battery is replaceable and good
very good performance for my usage I'm not a gamer
great experience from stock [ no lags and GUI is cool ]
easier to hold then note 2 or 3
disadvantages:
camera in low light
lg support no KK?
IMO build is OK but protection needed and recommended
Am I happy with my G Pro? yeah, so happy with it......
so far so great.....

I say go for the g pro. Ive been through 6 phones in less than 2 months and g pro is my fav. I had Xperia Ion, Samsung gs2, Atrix 4g, HTC One, Oppo Find 5 and Nexus 4. Obviously N4 and HTC One had the most devs but g pro is still fairly new and it has so much screen real estate. Im pretty sure once someone gets their hands on that g2 os we will have a port. Things are moving on this thread, slowly, but we are getting there. Out of all my phones i still think g pro is the best.

[Q] G3 vs S5

Hey guys... Im changing my phone into either a samsung galaxy s5 or a LG G3 this weekend but i am in a dilemma to choose between the 2 great phones. First off all i am someone who constantly gets my phone "wet" ( you know what i mean) and thats why ive been considering the s5 BUT i found out that the G3 had way better camera and display factors. However, the G3 did not produce a water resistant feature, i need some help to choose between the 2. Thanks!!
There is a youtube post where the g3 is put under water for quite some time without getting damaged. Just google it it seems legit. I would not recommend anyone doing it themselves but my guess is it would survive a splash. I was in the same situation as you 2 weeks ago. I must say im happy i didnt take the s5. This phone feels like the right choice but it is your call

S5 old Samsung problem... cheap components (whatever components these are). 3 to 6 months it gets slow, the battery grows almost to the point to explode. IDK the situation for everyone, but the quality of Samsung in Brazil is absolutely **** and people still buy.

No I don't know, I've never gotten my phone wet lol... Wait one of is being sarcastic......

Thanks you guys... That really helped in making my decision. Looking foward to my G3 this weekend!!
Good decision!
Ordered mine yesterday, took me some days to decide between the actual flagships.
- Sony Xperia Z2: nothing outstanding
- Samsung S5: I don´t like the design, i don´t like Samsung and i don´t want to have the same phone most others have. And all Samsung phones i had in my hands are suffering by the same: out in the sun it is realy hard to see anything on the display.
These two where out fast!
- HTC ONE M8: I´m on a HTC ONE X+ at the moment and i´m very happy with it. The M8 has a great design and the best speakers out there, plenty of custum roms out there to play around and no problems with a locked bootloader. But a 4MP-Camera is at the lower limit and what bothered me most was the waste of space. The M8 is only 4mm smaller and is a litlle thicker than the G3 and only has a 5'' Display!
AND THE WINNER IS: LG G3!!!
I had a LG OPTIMUS Black those days and it is still working fine.
For the G3 the only negative i found is this damned locked bootloader!
PLZ LG have mercy with us! We need the fun to play around with a mass of custom roms! Let the great developers out there unleash their potential!
XPOSED & TWEAKBOX i´m comming !
THX to all developers out there working already on it to get the best out of ours G3s.
Well I own a G3 but I gotta say the S5 has better battery life (and that very useful Ultra Power Saving mode), Camera is arguably better or equal, and I really like the Super AMOLED screen on it which won awards for best in industry.
The Waterproof feature is a great bonus.
I prefer the G3's build, design and UI though and its neat software features

[Q] Should I get the LG G3?

Hi guys! I'm in a bit of a dilemma here with choosing between the LG G3 or the Nexus 5. I actually owned a Nexus 5 already but dropped it making it unusable but aside from it breaking and the 2 hr SOT battery life, the Nexus 5 was already amazing to me. The LG G3 on the other hand is obviously a beast in hardware and it looks a lot sexier but I'm just worried that I might not get the software updates I deserve on the LG G3. I'm sure Android L will hit the G3 but as always, having a manufacturer in between you and Google in terms of updates can just make things complicated. I'm just wondering if the extra $200 (That's the difference of getting one here right now in the Philippines) is worth it for the G3.
I also want to know if there are any common issues or defects I should be looking out for because I got a 2nd hand G2 after breaking my Nexus 5 and it was great except that it was heating up so easily (from just browsing and texting even) and the battery life wouldn't get me more than 3 hrs SOT so I'm kind of hesitant in getting a non-Nexus device right now. So now I'm selling my G2 and I'm in a toss up between getting a new Nexus 5 or adding some cash to get the LG G3. Hoping you G3 owners could shed some light and help me decide.
Thanks!!

If the most important thing to you is to get Android updates ASAP, then a Nexus is your best option. The Moto-X (2013) got them almost as fast as the Nexus, so the new Moto-X (2014) probably will, too. But once the sale to Lenovo is completed, who knows if that will slow things down.
Any carrier branded phone will take longer to get updates. Including the G3. I think what the G3 offers over the Nexus makes the wait worthwhile, but not everyone will feel the same way.
I was in the same dilemma, and didn't know which one to get. I figured the Nexus 5 was getting a little out dated and the camera was much better on the G3. I have T-Mobile so I ended up getting the G3 becuase the bootloader was unlocked and the G3 had better hardware and design. I can't wait until a steady AOSP ROM is available. CM 11 is in Alpha stage in the G3 as of now.
Hei
So you guy´s think lg is going to unlock bootloaders as they said?
I´m very much in a dilemma between g3 and note 4...on note 4 there´s gonna be tons of custom roms etc. but not so sure about g3 tho?
But if cm11 is on alpha stage, it´s a very god start, everybody can live with cm11, aosp not needed that bad then!
What would you guy´s choose?

I returned my LG G3 the day the Note 4 was announced.
+ on the LG G3: form factor, rear buttons, max screen to size ratio, camera
- on the LG G3: display, display, display. Coming from a line of Samsung phones, the LG G3 display is dim and colors are underwhelming
+- i never had any trouble with lag, fast enough for me.
I think G3 is a new experience....its so smooth I am so happy with it ,.
About battery:at first time it still gor 9-12 hours , but know is 19- 22 hours ....?.

Get it. Great phone, Display really is something else. Batterys not all that bad just not the leader in the market. Good UI. Not touchwiz crap. Get it haha
Well..I had to decide, too.
The LG3 has a fantastic display but has some issues.
Some people aren't able to make the audio output working in their cars, like me.
Additionally, the LG is a bit laggy, but there are workarounds available and very good working.
The features are stunning, battery is good and the material is fantastic.
I owned a Galaxy Note 2 and experienced that the G3 is close to perfection.
It is like getting a car.
A Volkswagen Golf is nice, but a Lamborghini is nicer.
=> If you aren't able to buy the LG G3, go for the Nexus 5.
In my opinion you have to buy the G3..
I test it yesterday , and the battery from100% to 18 % about 30 h ?.....indeed .....maybe no one will belive that? .....but it's truth?.......well .....with my special Using.

Oneplus One is definitely not the best phone out there right now lol.
I think everyone have their favorite phone because everyone has different things they gonna or wanna do with it but i love my G3
Depending on your needs, the LG G3 is probably the best phone you can currently get. It does have some lag and stutter, the brightness isn't that high, and battery is just okay, but in terms of screen quality and size, design, build quality, camera, and features, it's hard to beat.
In the past year, I've used the Galaxy S5, Htc One m8, Xperia Z1, Note 3 and now G3. I can honestly say the LG G3 is my personal favorite (Note 3 close second).

Going by the number of bad reviews i've seen, (0) and i've seen so many positives
And the fact that it's top of the benchmark apps
And the fact that I hate my G3 with a passion because it doesn't run smooth like a one
My opinion is that it's definately one of the best out there and the price makes it the very best of those
One of the bet top tier phones right now - the stock rom just needs a little work - updates are rolling out slowly.
I definately dont regret my purchase at all and being one of the only guys out of my firends to NOT have a Samsung - it gets a tonne of comments about how slick it looks.

Why i chose the LG G3 :
The screen is realy stunning !
Knock code is the best tool i ever seen for locking/unlocking the screen!
LG Case and circle apps are very conveniant !
I regret the JACK/AUX issue, but it's a software issue known between LG and KK4.4.2. It should be solved soon.

I'm personally going to sell my G3 and get the Moto Turbo. That will have the best specs out of any phone released up until now, or that has been rumored to come out this year.
I have HTC M8 (Dev Ed.), Nexus 5 and LG G3 (D855). My personal favorite is M8, mainly because of the ability to unlock the boot loader and availability of many custom ROMs. Also, it looks and feel more premium (again, personal preference) and the awesome stereo sound. G3 is a good phone but not something I would like to keep. G3 is still at 4.4.2 version while others have moved on to 4.4.4. I will be selling my G3 very soon. If you are not into rooting and flashing Custom Roms, either one of the listed phones will serve you well. I am giving Nexus 5 to my son as it's easy for him to hold in his little hands.

Yes.
mhm.. its look like that the phones of 2014 are bad.. not my taste :/
i will wait for 2015, or for Oppo n3.
Definitely a good buy. It has very good prices from operators. I got mine at a very good price compared to the M8 for ex.
Pros:
The overall size is great (feels "smaller" than it is - at least to me)
The screen is a plus and I like that the most.
Good and powerful camera (comparing here with my nexuses so far).
Latest updates (10L) got the "stock" firmware to be less annoying.
It has a bunch of neat optimizations / customization here and there.
Knock gestures, I constantly tap other phones to wake them now ... addicting
Cons:
The software is not that "clean". Not that cartoon-ish as the G2 software but still no AOSP. At time is clunky and "unresponsive".
The speaker is overrated. It's not that loud or clear or anything - just "amped".
No custom software / clunky tools that make you "tremble" when you do some tweaks to the software (clearly personal opinion here). Very slow update cycles so far.
Still plastic, not the "premium" build that some look for.
Back buttons still seem awkward after a few weeks but it's something you can live with.
All those CON's are software except the Plastic/Speaker.
2 cons is pretty good
I think the brushed backing looks awesome.
Yes, my only cons are the software, I have been so much accustomed to AOSP that I started to hate slow OEM customizations. Other than that the phone is good and works quite ok (though if you asked me after the first week I was very close to selling it).

It`s the time of the year to get a new phone.
My options are LG G3 and Nexus 6.
I have been using Moto X until now but the battery in Moto X 2nd Gen seems to be crap and guess i will miss active display and droid is not available in my region
Thanks in advance

I am waiting to see the responses you get. I, too, am thinking of getting a new phone. I am still using the Nexus 4. The LG G3 can be had for quite a bit cheaper (at least on AT&T) right now. It is $480 vs. $650 for the Nexus 6.
Hi, I have both.
G3 a little lag, worst camera
N6 less lag, worst battery, and personally I don't like that much the screen, and way too big

I thought the G3 was supposed to have a pretty good camera? It seems everything I read contradicts something else I've read. The battery life is good, the battery sucks. The screen is amazing, the screens nothing special. There's tons of lag, there isn't really any lag. I don't know what to think.

Worst camera than N6, but it's a decent one.
I prefer IPS rather than Amoled, so for me, better screen the G3.

The G3 has an excellent camera. It rivals the iPhone 6 and beats the iPhone 5s.
I would personally take the G3 over the Nexus 6. The G3 has expandable memory and a removable battery. It's also smaller and lighter and it feels better in your hand. The Nexus 6 is just too big as well. Beyond 5.5" phones become too big IMO.

Worst camera than N6, but it's a decent one.
I prefer IPS rather than Amoled, so for me, better screen the G3.

OK. I'm wrong. Perhaps I just get the bad one.

Thanks everyone for your replies on this.
I don't mean to hijack this thread from OP, but would like opinions if it's ok.
I'm torn between going ahead and buying the G3 at it's current AT&T price of $480 (using Next), or waiting on some of the new models that are coming out. Specifically, the Galaxy S6, the HTC M9, the Flex 2, and finally the Asus Zenfone 2. All of those, with the exception of the Zenfone 2, will be at least $650 I presume, therefore the G3 is quite a bit cheaper. So, I'm not sure if the features of these new devices is worth waiting and paying more, or should I just go ahead and get the G3 now with it's $480 price tag?
Thanks again everyone.
My friend has also asked for my opinion whether he should buy a phone now or wait for the next flagships and my advise is : wait for it. The first few new phones should appear in stores in mid March - April, as Snapdragon 810 appears it might be worthwhile to wait for it as it supports 64bit vs the current 32bit.
Anyway, my opinions for OP's question is to go for the Nexus 6. I currently have a LG G3 and i find that its battery sucks (i came from a HTC Butterfly S and LG G2, im quite a heavy user (games, reddit, whatsapp and calls) and my screen on time at most is only maybe 3 to 3 and a half hours at best, while my Butterfly S was able to reach around 5-6hours vs my LG G2 4-5hours. I find that the 2K screen is not worth the battery life at all, its barely comparable with just a Full HD screen, and the processor cant handle it properly.
Camera is fantastic. HTC Butterfly S's camera utilises Ultrapixels (the same as the HTC One M7 and M8) and the G3 beats it completely. It takes miliseconds to snap a photo.
The LG G3 LAGS. Its not the kind of lag you get when you use a low end phone, its more like...microlags. For example - my LG G2 and LG G3 was at one point both running Resurrection Lollipop Rom, and while the LG G2 was really fast and fluid, the G3 feels different, everything seems slower and abit jaggedy, though its not visible ; more like as a gut feeling. Its more like the processor is struggling to handle the screen resolution itself, and somewhat succeeds though not entirely.
If i were you i would go for the Nexus 6, though the price and expandable storage takes some consideration.

1. Batterylife on the G3 is better then with the Nexus 6
2. Tried the new 20H firmware? No lag for me on that rom and i have many apps running in the background.
Just my 2 cents but i think besides your allready mentioned considerations the G3 is the better device because of the many usefull extra features it offers next to barebone android N6.

1. I somehow doubt it with my usage, Nexus 6 is AMOLED too which saves even more battery than G3's IPS screen.
2. Hmm ill try it now, though currently trying CloudyG3. Its not the number of apps it can run, the lag happens during more of its animations even when theres no apps in the background.
I'd choose G3, the nexus 6 is way big for me. The most important is I like the G3 outlook, it's gorgeous
And what about choosing between Sona Z3 vs HTC M8? Or other alike candidate (Samsung is not an option)?
