[Q] GT-N7100 T-Mobile USA Prepaid

Is anyone using the international version of the Note 2 (Which I gather has the model number N7100) on T-mobile in the US? I am only interested in makign sure HSPA+ "4G" speeds will work for me.
In case originating country matters, I am looking to import from India.

The 3g speed will not work on T-mobile only edge. I am using At&t and I am having hspa+.

Have you tried using it? The 7100 specs show support for 2100 band o 3G and wikipedia says T-Mobile runs on 1700/2100 for 3G. Do both bands need to be supported for it to work?

Yes, TMo US uses a split AWS band 1700/2100 for 3G and needs both to work.
However, in some cities TMo has refarmed some spectrum at 1900MHz for 3G use, and if you are lucky enough to be in one, you would get 3G.

For t-mobile USA, their HSPA+ network (or 4G you called) use AWS band, which refers to 1700/2100. The international version N7100 is UMTS/HSPA 800/850/1900/2100. This N7100 is missing the t-mobile USA magic number 1700. So you will not get their HSPA+ speed.
However, with recent t-mobile project on refarming their PCS1900 frequency in the US, the N7100 will work on HSPA+ network, BUT not at current moment in all states. Only specific cities such as Las Vegas, NV will work.
T-mobile USA promised the PCS1900 band will fully operate by end of 2012, so i would say NO for now, but yes in year 2013.
It will depend on how long you would like to wait but t-mobile does have galaxy note 2 (model SGH-T889) which might start selling on October 24, 2012.
Side Note - October 24, 2012 is a big day for US people who want galaxy note 2 as this is the day Samsung Mobile Electronics USA makes for the US Launch events in New York City for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for all 5 US major wireless carriers. :good::good::good::good::good:

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input. Gives me a better idea of what I am looking at. I spoke to T-Mobile and it looks like my area does not have 3G on 1900/2100 as yet. (Though a couple of towns close by seem to have gotten it recently).
I was looking at getting the phone quickly as I am stuck with a Nokia N9 with a cracked screen and need a new phone.
I really dislike the T-mobile branding on the phone. Are there any other issues like locked Bootloader or T-Mobile bloatware I should be worried about? And do they sell unlocked versions from day one?

well, in my opinion i would say i will get the t-mobile branded t-mobile galaxy note II. Reason why is the FCC report for SGH-T899 shows it is LTE ready. N7100 is LTE capable, but you wont be able to use T-mobile LTE network when they finsihed deploying. Again, T-mobile LTE magic number is 700 and 1700 for their LTE band frequency. I am not exactly sure if N7100 has 700 mhz band, but if not, then it will be stuck in HSPA+ while others can enjoy the LTE speed.
Yes, SGH-T899 does have t-mobile bloatware, and bootloader might be unlocked but since you are in this forum, so i am sure great developers in this forum can get easily fixed.
They dun sell unlocked version, but if you are the t-mobile primary account holder, you can call them for the unlock code. They will email you unlock code and instruction with 48 hours.
Side Note - N7100 UMTS/HSPA max speed is 21Mbps. T-mobile branded SGH-T899 is 42.2Mbps max speed for HSPA+.

I am currently using my GT-I9300 on T-Mobile's 1900 band in Las Vegas and i'm getting "ok" speeds of about 4-6mbps down and 1mbps up in certain areas and at certain times. For example during night time i get that speed but throughout the day i get 2-4 down and 1 up. It's ok, not that great...not awful either but it works. I'm honestly tired of having a beast phone with a crap internet connection. Take the bad with the good if you can.

I'm a little confused. I thought (and was pretty sure) N7100 does not support 4G LTE.

Hi, I am.
I live in the DC area and usually get h+. Only problem is that when I am moving around and going into an area that hasn't been refarmed, I pass to edge...
It got so annoying that I bought a nexus 4 and started using that, which always worked on h+ seamlessly.
Too bad I got tired of it after two weeks and went back to the note2! I'm hoping that tmobile will improve the areas it covers with h+...

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100 - N7105
4G Network LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2600 - N7105

I recently purchased a galaxy note 2 in Korea and I would like to bring it back and use it in the states with AT&T. I read that 4g would not be compatible with the phone but 3g will work? I plan to use this phone for business and I realized the 1 is not designated as voicemail due to it being a Korean phone. Is there way to add this feature on? Are there any other features that I will not be able to use with AT&T? I realize I won't be able to watch tv on my phone anymore.

Try to root it n install you custom software,Do your homework around the forms n find the stuff you need n support the developers? You won't regret it! !

I don't want to root it and I prefer to keep it stock. I just need to know if the phone will work with At&t's 3g network. It would also be nice if i could fine a way to check my voicemail.

Ok so I got these specs for my svh-250k and looks like 3g will be compatible but it also picks up umts 2100 and att LTE frequency uses 2100 for 4g. Am I wrong? Do I need to look at the secondary cellular network?

Just reading the specs I would go with T-Mobile, Faster HSPA speeds if you decide to keep your amber brown. Only downside is T mobile's coverage isnt as good as AT&T but if you re in a major city it shouldnt be a problem.

[Q] GSM/HSDPA/LTE bands for T-Mobile S4 (SGH-M919)

Hi there,
Can anyone confirm for sure and tested the following question:
How many bands for GSM, HSDPA and LTE does the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (M919) have? Are they the same bands as the International S4 LTE (I9505)?
Based on the wikipedia page for Samsung Galaxy S4, the model I9505 has more LTE bands than the T-Mobile M919 version, is that completely true and technically proven?
Most of the websites state that the M919 and the I9505 has the same bands for all GSM, HSDPA and LTE.
I appreciate if someone can lead me to the ultimate answer.

Tmobile uses AWS for 4g LTE which requires 2100/1700 frequency. The GT-i9505 only supports 2100mhz i believe, which is not enough.
I think the GT-i9505 supports one of the several frequencies that Tmobile uses for HDSPA, so HDSPA coverage may be a bit spotty with the phone. This was referenced off the top of my head, but I had done some research online about this before as I had similar questions as you.

Hey so looking at the wiki that you guys posted up there it says following for the tmobile version: 700 MHz (Band 17), CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E
now i somehow got my hand on one of these devices in europe for rather cheap and totally new, so im confused now what these CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E are, does any of these stand for any other than the 700mhz band? like 1700/1800mhz? or in other words, is it possible to get lte to work in europe with the tmobile usa s4? Can the modem perhaps be flashed with an i9505 one and than get the additional bands or is the hardware actualyl that different (as in antennas and amplifiers)?
Its not really a dealbreaker for me as LTE in my country is quite some time away but still, would like to know.

In simple words, the LTE bands are (not in order): Band 1 (2100), Band 2 (1900), Band 4 (1700), Band 5 (850), Band 7 (2600), Band 17 (700), so we have the LTE bands available for the T-Mobile version: 700, 850, 1700, 1900, 2100 and 2600.

sorry for asking it again, but that basically means the tmobile version has most bands that are used enabled? just have to figure what bands are being used in my country... thanks really
edit: checked the bands here naturally its 800 and 1800, so my question remains, can i somehow flash the phone to work on these?

No, you can't flash a I9505 rom to a M919 device, if you do, you will brick it. The best option for you to get 800 and 1800 frequencies is to go for the GT-I9505, it's the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE version, and it has the following bands for LTE Cat 3 (800 / 850 / 900 / 1,800 / 2,100 / 2,600 MHz). Yes, it seems that the I9505 has LTE bands for each region, it's not dedicated for America (North, Central and South), it also support Europe and Asia, while it doesn't contain most bands for a specific region, it's a world phone, unlucky doesn't fully support T-Mobile 4G UTMS network (1700/2100), but still a good option for those who travel to other continents.

Flashing just the modem doesn't work either?

I haven't tried flashing modems into another devices that don't correspond to their own. I can't help you with that answer at this time

i asked that because i have an att atrix, on which its possible to flash european modems without a problem, thanks for your time man, i hope someone will try this and it works

Question...are all those other things i've been hearing about other ppl successfully getting 4g reception after doing something to either with the aws band's, or to the software true? does anyone know for sure? i'm very thankful for any input, as i've been hearing so many conflicting things when it comes to the i9505 and getting 4g service with t-mobile, i just want a proven answer :/

I bought my S4 T-mobile (SGH-M919) in USA. And it is fine working in Spain with 4G. But when i have upgraded it to Marshmallow then only works with HSPA(H+) as better. Change baseband? i am not sure to do it...mmmm

Official T Mobile 910T on AT&T thread

This thread is for those who bought T mobile 910Ts and are using them on ATT with working LTE and Custom Recovery. I thought t would be nice to have a centralized thread for non ATT devices being used on the ATT Carrier

I received my T Mobile 910T from a seller at Swappa.com It was rooted and Rommed with FireKat V4 (I have since flashed V5) and see no reason to switch Roms.
However, The phone I received was not unlocked. I used cellunlocker.net for the code and it worked perfectly
allowing me to use my four year old ATT SIM from my N7100 Note 2 (even though the Costco Cellular Kiosk gave me a new SIM card free before my phone came)
I called AT&T and gave them the IMEI and they provisioned me for LTE even though the phone shows up as a flip phone on their site. . LTE is weak around here but the phone does indicate LTE when it's available. I paid $700 for the phone . There are less expensive ones available for those who don;t want to deal with T Mobile and a 40 day plan.
The phone uses TWRP or PHILZ Recovery and flashing roms is no different than it has been since the first ODIN version was used to flash a recovery TAR file. I prefer TWRP
I have no confidence in developers finding a way around the ATT bootloader lock nor the incentive to make it work like an international device anytime soon if ever. The only alternative for me was to get a developer Note 4 with Verizon. My wife runs an ATT S5 and does not need root so switching carriers would have been a non starter since we both are able to use 4G LTE

I would not get too hung up on "compatibility" at this point. Many of us users are enjoying their 910T on AT&T without issue.

This is for people who have AT&T Service and are looking at the T-Mobile US Note 4 (N910T).
Why are people wanting to use a T-Mobile Note 4 on AT&T?
Because AT&T, much like Verizon, has tried to lock down their phones making it very difficult to use custom ROM's or apps that require root. AT&T and Tmobile's networks are similar. The N910T (Tmobile Note 4) is bootloader unlocked.
What does carrier/SIM locked mean? Is it the same as bootloader locked?
. US phones that operate on GSM networks require a SIM card. The carriers don't want you taking your phone to another carrier without fulfilling your contract so they lock your phone to themselves and the SIM cards they offer. Once you fulfill your contract or pay for the phone in full they should be willing to issue you an unlock code. Some carriers like T-mobile make you wait 40 days after you buy the device to unlock it. SIM unlocking the phone will allow you to put a SIM card from another carrier in the phone.
How can I carrier/SIM unlock my T-mobile Note 3 if T-mobile won't?
Several people have used cellunlocker.net including me. Select U.S.A. T-Mobile and N910T as your device. This also removes any region lock.
Will LTE work on AT&T?
Many people have confirmed that LTE works. There is no speed difference between an AT&T branded phone and the Note 4. Documents obtained from the FCC and also on T-Mobile's site say it supports the frequencies used by AT&T.

Root, custom recoveries, roms, and kernels for the T-mobile US Note 4
The T-Mobile Note 4 has a dev community that is growing rapidly. You have plenty of options to customize just about everything available on your Note 4 You can flash roms and kernels that give you extended run time and overclocking. We can even cut out the carriers and flash international roms with some modifications so we can have the latest and greatest directly from Samsung. Using custom recoveries such as TWRP will trip the KNOX counter.
For TWRP recovery is the recommended recovery for the N910T and is the first step to flashing roms and kernels.

You have to call ATT and give them the IMEI? I had a S5 (wife has it now) from TMO and its unlocked and we just popped her sim on it without calling ATT and she gets LTE with no issue. Just wondering if its something new.
I'm thinking of selling my ATT note 4 so I can buy a TMO Note 4 myself

No, most of the time it just works. In a few cases as with the international Note 1, ATT had a range of imei's programmed wrong in their database so it showed up as a phone that doesn't get the correct data plan (missing LTE or HSPA data) like an old blackberry/flip phone. It took them a few weeks to correct it.
Most everyone coming from a phone that has LTE should just be able to plug in their sim card and go, never having to talk to ATT.

No you don't have to call. In fact the general conscious is; doing so will get your LTE disabled by at&t. I would absolutely not willingly report my attempts to circumvent at&t's restrictions.

Ya, I did a guide a while back here for the Note 3. I think a lot of people found it helpful with over 700 posts. It would be good for the note 4. Feel free to take anything from it you want.

I didn't HAVE to But I was running Wap. Cingualar APN on the Note 2 so they had to provision me to work with the Phone APN for LTE. I had an ATT S5 IMEI ready if the native APN did not work as well as a new SIM card.
I asked if there were any signal losses since it was not an ATT phone . He said "only thing I may miss are the ATT apps"'. I have a couple I use like Visual Voice mail. and the account app. Otherwise I am ok.
Did have to freeze the T mobile wifi over phone app s I was getting an error message everyday as that app tried to find T Mobile towers.

LTE band 20 is for ITU Region 1 EMEA (Europe Middle East and Africa roaming).
Band 29 is for carrier aggregation with band 4 in the US. (Band 29 is download only). It is implemented in a few large cities so far, Chicago being one. It is for capacity only; not speed. The n910t does not support it, but it's not a big deal at this point because it supports the normal LTE bands offering the same service.

Great Idea done.
Swappa is a good place for used devices as well. No Ebay fees and most are new resales. No need to deal with T Mobile at all

I did not find this to be an issue, after I gave them my T mobile IMEI. There are no phone restrictions.
They did not try to take LTE away and they did not care where I got the phone. They only want the service. I asked about that and was told things have changed and they are not penalizing those who buy elsewhere. They don't sell phones for profit and make no interest on those NEXT Plans. I think they want to get out of the $299 two year contract phone business and just sell service. In my case if they did not make it work, I was ready to jump to a developer Phone on Verizon. So the tech really wanted to make it work and he did,
I am using the same LTE APN as an ATT Phone,
They just have to be able to provision them for LTE, If you are coming from an LTE device you likely would not have to do anything but put the SIM card in.
My phone does not show up as a Black berry. So far just a unknown flip phone. I am disappointed with LTE speeds here. When the phone says LTE I get about 10 down. Verizon does about 23. ATT LTE is very spotty here. I use my wifes ATT S5 as a reference. Her phone does not get better than mine.

I think if you give them the IMEI also the phone will register in the ATT website as a note 4, don't think it will show the picture of a flip phone.
This helps with insurance claims if something happens. If I'm not mistaken

I gave them my SM-910T IMEI and it shows up as a flip phone however I still show 4G LTE downloads where I can get LTE and the speed tests confirm its not standard 3G HSPA+
There have been mixed reviews on which IMEI to use. I got one off a demo S5 just in case and will keep it ready if I need it bit so far so good with my 4 year old SIM chip and 910T IMEI.
I would say if anyone is going to go this route you will have to be ready willing and able to buy a phone as warranty service would be doubtful. The good news is the phones are getting cheaper. For $200 I am keeping my International N7100 Note 2. Its worth more to me as a backup than the $200 I may get for it

I noticed the same thing but the important thing to remember is our T Mobile phones are working on AT&T in LTE mode.
I could not sort out all the information. But as more people chime in with 910T devices , some of those questions will be answered, I was confused researching and looking at "bands" etc. but what sold me was the real time users who were not having issues. I bought mine knowing I could sell it if I was wrong.
The only way I was going to find out for sure is buying a phone and decided to try it out on my own because there was some conflicting information. I had had no issues using an old Note 2 SIM on wap.cingular even giving AT&T the IMEI of T Mobile's phone. After inputing the LTE APN and having the tech ensure the provision was correct I was happy I test it against a know ATT branded LTE device and can confirm it works.
So I would not get too hung up in drilling down into the bands and frequencies at this point. Many of us are using the devices on AT&T without issue. Those who are having issues may get some help here.

LTE info:
LTE info including international band 20 roaming info is from here. It also show which blocks correspond with the bands.
Band 29 info is below. Fiercewireless is an telecom industry publication.
AT&T carrier aggregation plans/Mobile world Congress presentation here and here.
All LTE bands listed with their corresponding uplink/downlink frequencies. Some people only list the frequencies so this helps to find what band they are talking about.

Brick. City. Don't try it. Sell your phone and buy a 910T on Swappa. I bricked two Captivates back in the day when we could send them off and get unbricked for $50. I don't think that is available any more.

I'd bet the TMO and ATT Note 4 main boards are identical. Just different rom version #s and bootloaders.

I'm VERY concerned about buying this phone now. T-Mobile have only listed LTE bands 4 & 17 on their site.

It does have 1700! That's Band 4, and for both LTE and HSPA.
The T-Mobile version also supports WiFi calling and texting. I have no idea if the T-Mobile firmware can be flashed to the unlocked version, but I don't see why it wouldn't be feasible.

HTC Dev & Unlocked versions (per HTC on Twitter): 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 29, 30 (adds +5, +13, +29, +30)
Maybe the T-Mo phone supports more that could be unlocked, who knows. The extra bands aren't useful to me.

HTC has done this on the past couple of phones. Only the T-Mobile phone will do their specific bands (HSPA+). On past models I don't recall anyone getting the ATT/DEV models to work with those T-Mobile bands. I don't believe we ever found out why. Some speculated it was due to cost to license all the bands, or that it is actually different hardware. The M7 and M8 were both like that.
If you are on T-Mobile, I'd get the model specifically for them.

Oh yeah I remember my Dev version being like that. Fortunately, I live in an area that has been upgraded to mostly lte. This was actually beneficial for me and maybe others in the same situation because it actually saves battery life when the phone isn't constantly switching between edge, 3g/+, and lte. I'm sure many others have been in an area that's barely out of lte but still within h+ range and it's still slow as edge or even slower.

Yes, it is OK if you live in a major area that has lots of LTE. Here just north of LA, I get into the other bands pretty frequently.

I am not sure this was answered? Do all versions of the HTC one m 9 support band 4 UMTS? Many ATT carrier unlocked models are for sale and no one seems to know if they will pick up the UMTS 1700 band 4 on T- Mo?

They will not pick up the T-Mobile specific bands, which use 1900/2100 for 41bps speed. They will work with the T-Mobile LTE band.

Wow, still a mystery. I have the AT&T SIM Unlocked One M9 and I have a TMobile prepaid SIM and get Edge, 3G, 4G, LTE Band 2,4,12...I cannot find an app that shows the actual WCDMA (4G) Bands ? But, it notates 42 MBPS when it says HSPA+ 4G using Network Signal Info-Pro App..and also shows 384 Kbps when it says 3G....
So, seems Des is correct unless the Network Signal Info Pro app is wrong?

I turned off everything except WCDMA, and this is what I get being reported by LTE Discovery. HSPA+ @ -113. I have a ATT unlocked M9. I do have the T-Mobile 2.11.531.19 firmware installed as well as the T-Mobile rom.

Thanks but as I mentioned I cannot find an App that shows the WCDMA Bands to confirm. As you can see even LTE Discovery says N/A for DL and UL Freq...when on WCDMA...
The only App I can see that helps is Network Signal Info Pro...and unfortunately it is limited and shows me the below in my market;
HSPA+ 42.2 MBPS
HSDPA 7.2 MBPS
UMTS 386 KBPS
But, does not indicate which Band or Frequency ?
Anyone know of an App or Command that will show WCDMA Bands???
