Restore MyBackup Pro backups

Hi.
I come from an HTC Desire and I have some backups that I made with MyBackup Pro of some app's data. Relevant data like some games progresses, Libra's database, etc. MyBackupPro has an online backup and I backed the data online on the HTC Desire and tried to restore it in the Galaxy Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus recognizes the backup, shows the apps that are backed up, but when I press Restore it says that I should reboot the device and that the restore was OK almost instantaneously. Nothing is restored, no data is transferred to the phone..
Is there any other way to migrate this kind of data? Shouldn't MyBackup Pro be working on the Galaxy Nexus?

Maybe the app needs an update for ICS? Try to check their site to see if there's a reported problem, that's most likely the case.

Should have gone with Titanium Backup. I never had much luck with MyBackup anyway. Titanium is rock star on ICS.

The only problem Ive had so far has been restoring SMS with Pro.
Even with busy box installed its suuuper slow at the moment.

I sent them an email, I'll wait for an answer.. But I guess it is due to incompatibilities with ICS too..
AmesCell, I have always used MyBackup while using the Desire, never had a problem. Anyway, I still have the Desire and can use Titanium, but my Galaxy Nexus isn't rooted, and Titanium needs root.

Your signature says your Desire is rooted. Rooting the GN is easy. I go through 4 phones a year. I couldn't imagine doing that without Titanium.

Yes, the Desire is rooted, but I wasn't planning on rooting the GN so soon. I just got it 2 days ago and I want to see how this goes without any "hacks"..
I wouldn't have rooted the Desire in the first place if it wasn't for the lack of updates, etc... That's the main reason I bought the GN, having a more official support. Let's see, I'm almost sure that I'll root it in the future, but I don't want to do it right now.. I'll just wait for the Rerware answer to my email and see how it goes.

Rerware already answered, but no updates. Although I think I know what the problem is. I am only backup up app's Data, because they are already installed in the GN. But this is a "root only" feature and, for what I understood, non-rooted devices cannot restore this kind of backup, only APK backups. I asked this to the guys at Rerware to see if there is a workaround.
When I have news I'll post them here.

restoring your data/sms/backups is a "hack"

Hi,
Did you manage to find a solution to this problem? My phone is rooted and it still doesnt restore anything. Just like you said it finds the backup but then when you select the arrow next to apps to tick which ones you want to restore nothing is shown..
I need this to restore my game saves, spotify offline music etc

This happened to me with my sensation before. Somehow the backup got corrupted to I deleted it and started from scratch. Sorry to hear this happened to you it seriously sucks losing akk that stuff. What I've been doing is using from manager to restore my data partition and I've never had any issues SO FAR.
Enable advanced options, click restore and restore backup and only select the data.

I managed to solve the problem......
First my story:
I decided to install new ROM on my phone....i backed up apps and data with My Backup Pro (i bought the app)
My phone is rooted of course.
So i installed the new ROM and then i installed the My Backup Pro and started to restoring apps but i didn't get the app/data/app+data popup
and of course i couldn't restore my data from apps. i got really frustrated and browsed the web and couldn't find anything.
I started everything from the begining uninstalled all apps and figured it out that i did something wrong....and that is this that My Backup Pro doesn't work as it should without busy box...u have to install Busy Box before installing the My Backup Pro!
Follow this tutorial in order to restore your apps + data
Backing up apps on android (rooted) after installing new ROM
With My backup pro application
1. Backup apps + data
2. Backup dictionary
3. Backup all other data you want to
Install new ROM and then start restoring by this order
1. first install busy boxes i found there are two (BusyBox and BusyBox installer on the google store. install both)
2. install My backup pro and when asked to install additional options for rooted phone choose yes (now you should be able to choose between app/data/app+data to restore)
3. restore apps + data
4. thats it...enjoy!

Newbie tips?

So I've finally got my first smartphone, actually my first ever phone a few days back, the phone being the GN. I've successfully rooted, unlocked, etc and have flashed my GN to AOKP with the Franco kernel and the last thing I done was calibrate battery (which maybe useless? I'm not too sure).
Anyway, do any of you guys have any tips for newbies? like is there any mods, tips etc to make the phone better, make the battery run longer, etc.
If there are any threads I should read, please do link me the thread.
By the way, if I broke any rules somehow, I apologise. I'm capped and couldn't watch the "XDA Noob Video" and didn't bother reading the rules

install and understand titanium backup. I could have made everything so much easier had I learned how to use it from the start. and I would have saved the Google wallet feature of my phone.

Damn now I wished I backed up Google Wallet. Now when I run it it says it's not available on my carrier/or in my country.
Edit: Is there a way to get back Google Wallet, I have a Nandroid backup if that helps. I'm from Australia and on the Vodafone Carrier. Cheers if anyone could help!

Backup your current ROM, restore the older nandroid, install Titanium Backup and backup all the apps you need (I recommend batch backing up all user apps). Then, restore the nandroid backup of your newer ROM.
Sounds like a lot of work, but it takes max. 15 mins. I once did this whole process on my Galaxy S2 once so I would get back my high score on Doodle Jump!

Titanium can actually extract app backups out of nandroid backups (with the pro version, at least). No need to re-flash.

So is it recommend to remove Google Wallet from a rom you are flashing and then restoring it via titanium backup? I originally sideloaded the apk, so it was not a system app when I made a titanium backup. I would appreciate a nice layout of the steps to take so you don't lock yourself out of ever using Google Wallet on your phone .

Cheers guys. I've successfully restored my downloaded apps from my nandroid backup with TB Pro! I have also restored Google Wallet but that's only available to U.S customers, haha. Derp.
My last worry is the battery life. I'm not asking on how to make it last longer but if it's doing good or not by looking at the chart. I use my phone a lot with 3g always on, I use my phone as a music player every night using the speakers for about an hour. I sometimes put wi-fi on and yeah..

In the past, when I had a Samsung Infuse 4G, MyBackupPro worked wonderfully for backing up apps and data before flashing a new ROM, and painlessly restoring apps and data after flashing a new ROM (by painlessly I mean all at once, as opposed to having to go through and click "restore" for each app and data). However, for whatever reason, MyBackupPro is not playing nicely with my Note 2. I can backup and all that, but restoration never occurs. In fact, most times it won't find the backup to even restore!
So, what is everybody's favorite/easiest way to backup before flashing a new ROM, and restoring after flashing a new ROM? Preferably a free option.
When I was working with the Infuse, I seem to remember lots of developers saying to NEVER restore data after flashing a new ROM. I don't understand why that is. I know people aren't starting their games and stuff over from scratch when they flash a new ROM, especially since many people change ROMs every couple of days.

I use titanium backup. Works great with the note 2.
When they are saying don't restore data they are talking about system data. If you backup everything including system apps and data and restore from that it can wreck havoc.
Just backing up user apps and data is fine to restore, at least I've never had a problem. I would just be wary going between touch wiz and aosp ROMs that could get a little dicey, but between the same type of ROMs(ice cm10.1 to aokp or pacman or aospa) should be fine.

i used Helium (used to be Carbon) by Koush, the creator of CWM and ROM Manager) recently when i switched ROMs. i have always used Titanium Backup, but thought i would try Helium. the process is super easy and went very smoothly.

I believe when it comes to backing up/moving apps + data, time, convenience or money saving should simply stay out of the decision making process. BUY the best there is, spend time to learn how to properly use the tool and that will give you the quickest, most convenient and money saving solution. In other words, this is where you shouldn't be cutting any corners. I would recommend either Titanium Backup Pro or ROM Toolbox Pro.

I bought Helium Premium and it worked beautifully. Now I have no reason not to try every ROM available for this phone. Thanks guys!

My backup pro + root will do the job nice. If you're not seeing your backups try going into settings and check that your backups are going to EXTENT sd.

Dude I want the premium version of this app...Can you please provide me

I've been using titanium backup pro. It works pretty well, and it's pretty fast. Sometimes there are problems accessing my backup folder after a new flash, but restarting and fixing permissions will usually fix it.

did you set the backup location under settings when you redownloaded the app to point to the location of your backup folder?

+1 titanium backup..when restoring after a rom install..make sure to restore only apps never restore apos wirh chemicals system data...you'll have conflicts then.
Titanium backup is the best in my opinion. .you can backup bookmarks, message sms, call logs and even send them to dropbox and restore them just as easy...

I agree that Ti Backup is a good option. I wont say its the best period, but it is the best that I have used.

Current Preferred Backup/Restore Method when Wiping the Device?

It's been awhile since I've dabbled with messing with my phone much (on the 2XL, had a 6P before that and unlocked it but that was it). I am thinking it might be time to wipe the device and start fresh, but wondering what the "best" method for backing up and then restoring is for the wipe. I was never great with making the proper backup to restore from so usually ended up re-adding stuff manually and setting everything up again - would love to avoid that. Is the android/google drive backup and restore option sufficient? Is there a better method out there? I don't have a ton of customizations on this phone this time around but avoiding the hassle would be sweet. All photos are backed up to drive, and I can turn on to backups a few other folders as well. Otherwise its just passwords, wifi networks, bluetooth devices, home screen setup, app settings, etc, etc that I hope to maintain.
Also, this phone is NOT unlocked yet but I will probably do that when I wipe it.

I've never used the native backup and restore method, so I can't really comment on that.
- I use Titanium Backup for all my apps
- I create a Nova backup for my launcher (Nova Launcher)
- I transfer my internal storage to my computer (music, photos, videos and so on)
- once I wipe, I restore all that and the only thing I need to setup from scratch is basically everything in system settings, which I've gotten pretty quick at doing now that I've done it several times.
Unfortunately, Titanium Backup requires root, something I guess you can't achieve without unlocking your bootloader first (which requires a wipe).
I guess the best thing would be to try the native backup and restore option or wait for someone else to provide you with better non-root alternatives.

Google Backup has improved vastly over the past year or two, so make sure you have it switched on and actively working (including Photos). It's great. I use TiBu also but I don't use it for any System/GApps- usually only "non-market" and root apps so if you don't have those, you don't necessarily need it, but if you do store it OFFLINE. If you use a 3rd party launcher (eg. Nova), backup your "shortcuts" and settings beforehand OFFLINE. Here's one suggestion:
Disclaimer: Before you start, make sure you have the very latest fastboot/adb binaries installed (August 2018). A standalone version is available you just dump into one folder and verify it is working.
Unlock your bootloader (twice) using sticky guides (Nathan). It's important to do the unlock_critical at the same time. You will be starting from a blank slate. Flash the latest full factory image from Google using the provided script (See the Guide). Once you log back into your account, let Google Backup do it's thing fully and completely. Once finished, run TiBu (OPTIONAL) and restore "missing apps" ONLY which are any apps remaining not already installed by Google Backup. Restore your launcher backup, and you are done. I did this last weekend and from a blank slate it took me about one hour to get back everything the way I had it (not a gamer). If you have no non-market / root apps you can skip TiBu be back up and running even quicker. Google Backups is your friend. In closing, don't under-estimate the value of using a 3rd party launcher and it's built-in backup file. Which ever launcher you choose will really pay dividends when you finish restoring from Google Backup. Your desktop icons, widgets, and all pages will be restored just like you had them before. Best of luck.

If you are asking how complete the stock Pixel launcher backup is (or if it even offers a backup), I cannot answer. I have always used Nova on all my devices and can only speak to the backup/restore capabilities of it. I don't want to get up on a soap box here, but Nova is worth every penny. Once you restore all your apps, run the launcher backup/restore and you are DONE. Everything is back. Once, I lost my tablet launcher backup and used my Nova phone backup and it restored perfectly to my tablet. I would venture to say that if the launcher is not backed up, THAT is where all the time is in recovering an existing setup. Creating pages of shortcuts and widgets is a pain and that is even if you kept screenshots of them. I also know Nova will "import" your Google launcher settings, so you can easily switch over to Nova before your wipe and then backup your settings. Give it a whirl.

I always used Titanium Backup and still do as a backup but Swift Backup has become my main app for flashing and restoring between ROMs etc. Nicer interface and I don't have to pick and choose between stuff I want to restore as much compared to batch restore missing apps on Titanium.

Complete Backup without Root?

Is there anyway to get a complete backup without root. By complete I mean including the app configurations. I used to do this on my Nexus 6 with Titanium Backup. But I haven't rooted the Pixel 3 (or unlocked the bootloader) yet so I can't run Titanium.
My sense is that the google backup/restore just reloads the latest version of the apps without configuration (or at least seems to do that on many apps).
This is only a Pixel 3 question in the sense that my hope is that there is something new by now.

The only way besides using the cloud backup would to have a second phone running pie. Wipe it and set it up as new then use the transfer tool to transfer everything over. Then do the same to your pixel when you need the backup.
It's alot of work and most people don't have a spare phone, but it is an option

You could just unlock the phone and run a TWRP backup. Does not require root.
Of course, because you didn't unlock the phone when you received it, doing so now will wipe the device.

By the cloud backup, do you mean the built in backup to google drive? Does that really save all the app configuration? It certainly didn't when I did my Nexus 6 to Pixel 3 migration. Some of the apps came up as if they were first time installs.

I have tried and experimented with endless apps that promise to do this without success. Helium Backup works with very limited success in some cases and only for some apps. The problem is that it's not supported anymore and never really worked well. But this is one of the shortcomings of Android. I don't know why in 2018 (almost 2019) they still haven't figured out a way to backup all settings, app content and everything else without having to root the dam phone. To me, this is one of the main reasons why I rooted literally out of the box. I installed Titanium and had everything up and running in less than an hour. IMHO, it's worth wiping the phone, going through the headache once in your life and then ensuring you have the backup forever in a safe place. My previous phone was a rooted Note 4. I just transfered the Nite 4's Titanium backup to a USB-c drive, attached this drive to the new Pixel 3 Xl and recovered every single app and it's configuration in a matter of minutes. I have over 250 apps on my phone and some very specific configurations I like to use. The alternative would have been spending a day or two manually setting up each app and repeating it all over again each time I buy a new phone. I got tired of that in the past. Root is one of the main reasons why people get Pixels. Sadly, I don't know of any other way to effectively do it.

No there is not. You may try one of the many non-root backup programs like Swift Backup that are better at restoring app settings. That is why it is always better to unlock as soon as you get the phone. Any time at all spent setting the phone up is wasted until after it is properly unlocked. Google backup has come a very long way and it will quickly restore all your (Play) user apps but has many caveats as you have found. If the app data is small, it usually is restored, but if you have game data, MMS, music, etc. It obviously will not. The combination Google cloud backup + Titanium Backup (to restore missing apps and data) is the best way I have found when starting with a completely blank slate. In advance of a complete wipe, I transfer a copy of my latest TiBu folder to the PC, along with Nova Launcher backup. After initially setting the phone up (not using data transfer), I allow Google backup to restore until fully complete 100%. When it is done, I transfer the TiBu folder back on to the PC and run it to restore only missing apps and data. Lastly I use the Nova backup file to restore all launcher settings, shortcuts and widgets. This doesn't take very long and gets me to about 95%.
