For this time. Playing Games on Note 8.0 is ok. I have Fifa 2012, MC4, Fieldrunner 2, Real Rancing 3 and them run ok. But, I think for a longtime isn't good choice.
My son just got this tablet and I can tell you every game we have put on it has worked flawlessly. For us any game that works on my 10.1 has played as well if not better on the note 8 (including real racing 3).

Can I know, what do you mean by for a long time isn't good choice? Is it become laggy if keep playing for a long time maybe 1-2 hours....

I think he means the shelf life... that it wont take long for games to start demanding more than what the note 8 has.
not that i agree completely..

All devices with Exynos 4412 are proved to be great in stability test, almost no throttling.
I'm doing a complete thumb suck here, but I expect the mali400 gpu that's in the Note 8.0 to start showing it's age in a year to two years.
What I mean by that is top games will still be very playable... But lag will become more and more noticeable in certain areas of the game. Either that or some of the bells and whistles will be turned off in the version that's 'officially' available to us on the Play Store.
After all... There will be a never ending push for ever more demanding games to 'show off' just how much better flagship devices are to previous generations. The Note 8.0 has a weaker gpu than the phone I bought 2 years ago... It can't be *that* much longer before it can no longer keep pace...
Just sayin....

I think note 8.0 better. And maybe 6 month for heavy game. Normal games is no problems. Sorry for my bad English.

The note 8 is very fast but uses the Mali 400 GPU, an older (is it two years old now?) GPU.
For gaming, I'd hold off until after Google I/O to see what devices are announced. If the N7 is refreshed with the Mali 604 or so (and/or a Tegra 4) and a decent display, you might want to wait until it can be ordered.
In ordinary use, the GN8 is the fastest Android device I've used, and has the least lag of any Android device I've used. The Nexus 7 is very good, but it's just not playing in this league. I'm sure there are some Tegra optimized games that the N7 will do better on, but the UI overall is not this quick.
Incredibly fast in my use, and I play numerous graphics intensive games. DEFINITELY better than n7, trust me, I've owned both

Can the Mali 400 GPU be overclocked with a custom kernel in order to squeese a little more performance from it?
Overclocking the Tegra 2 GPU on my ASUS Transformer as well as the CPU made a big difference in its gaming performance.

I'm having a little trouble tracking down exactly when the Mali-400 MP gpu was first released, but here's an article on it from 2008: !!!
http://beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=48319
It was still a pretty beefy gpu in the Galaxy SII in 2011... But as far as I know was upstaged by the Adreno 220, which was to be found in the HTC Sensation (the phone I bought in 2011).
Some more info from back then:

try ppsspp and play almost all your old psp games.so if it runs like a psp that's basically a portable gaming console...at least for me...even plays at higher resolutions....connect a joypad...but I try to keep gaming to a minimum...as in most lithium batteries, it will really push out the charge cycles and the battery is not replacable...still excellent bat life for me at least....
I think it's one of the best tablets on the market.

This! All Games i have are Smooth to play without laggs or something similar.
Games i tested:
GTA: San Andreas
GTA: Vice City
Ravensword2
NOVA 3
Order & Chaos
and a bunch of games like Final Fantasy (3 - 5), EKO online, Iruna Online, world of goo etc
All this Games are playable on the highest settings.
Its one of the higher spec tablets (if not the highest spec tablet in the "smaller" 7 to 8" form factor), so obviously its going to hold its own with games for some time to come.
Tablet is great, but the battery should be better.
galaxy note 3 not seen as a tablet on playstore?
So being the proud owner of samsung galaxy S3 I found my self jealous of my friend being able to play Magic the gathering duels of the planeswalkers 2014 on his samsung galaxy tab 7 everywhere i read that the game is only compatible in tablets and thought hey I can do the same so purchased the slightly larger screen and better spec Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet on craigslist brand new, quickly destroyed the box and jumped to the play store ready to get my beast on! And surprice surprice! "Your device is not compatible" irritating would be how I would describe my current status if some one can shed some light as of how to over come this aweful situation im not trying to illegally obtain the game I want to pay for it and play it be able to get addons and updates please help and thanks in advance.

I think you can unlock all apps/games in the app store (even those that are not compatible with your device) by installing xposed framework and the appropriate module using wanam xposed or xblast from the play store. Not 100% sure but worth a look unless someone else can shed some light or suggest something else.
Hello, I'm thinking about buying a Galaxy Tab S 10.5", I don't need LTE on my tablet but I don't want a laggy tablet on games like Dead Trigger 2, Real Racing 3, Need for Speed..
Is the snapdragon 800 version better for gaming/performance?
I can't decide between Galaxy Tab S or Nexus 9 for school /: + Casual gaming.
Thanks in advance!
Also! Which one do you guys consider a better tablet, Galaxy Tab S or Galaxy Note Pro 12.2?
Bump -----
The tab s will get you 8 hours of on screen time. No lag during gameplay but only at loading screens idk about note pro.

i have just yesterday went to a seller, whose add for Pro 12.2 i saw yesterday. i checked the tab, and i was no convinced! its TOO big! its like those old laptops with huge screens. it FEELS quite heavy and makes it more usable for showing stuff to others, like more than 3 people. i mean that about screen size. its too bright, for night use as well. it would kinda lite up the room ur in at night. almost IMPOSSIBLE for one hand use and its thicker than Tab S. for comparison, LTE Pro 12.2 is 753Grams whereas, LTE Tab S 10.5 467Grams. its 268Gb lighter, the Tab S! also noticeably thinner at 6.6mm where Pro 12.2 is 8mm thick.
and honestly if u need it for school, the thinner and lighter it is the better. i would suggest Tab S 10.5 any day.

Have you considered the Nvidia shield? It's 8 inches but graphics performance is excellent and it got updated to Lolipop. For 10 inch tablets IMO the Samsung is the best out there.

Yes I have, but Ive seen bad reviews about the Nvidia Shield display, I knkw that the speaker ans internals are better! But I need it for school and Im a casual gamer, I play games like PvZ, Real Racing, Clash of Clans, Dead Trigger 2... I wont use nvidias streaming service, I just want a tablet for school that allows me to play those games smoothly with a decent camera.

And with regards to cameras on tablets, I advise you to forget about it. Even Phones dedicated to "Photography" give very poor results.

Dont get the Nexus 9 yet, I exchange mine for the tab s 10.5 since Best Buy has the holiday sale for $399 but so far many apps arent optimized for the Nexus 9. I played some games on this tablet. its a bit laggy only on asphalt 8 but everything else is buttery smooth. I suggest put google launcher and google keyboard, it becomes a Nexus device in no time. It has a few updates that has stability issues so everything is good so far. Just hope Samsung does update it to lollipop. Samsung has a bad track record in updating tablets very late.

I have used the entire of the 2014 galaxy tab and note tablet line. The note 12.2 is an enormous device. As someone stated earlier, it is like having a laptop with you. IMO if you like a 10" tablet, and don't mind the functionality of an S-pen, the Galaxy Note 10.1" (2014 edition) is very close in hardware specifications, to the Galaxy Tab S 10.5.
The Note is 299 ppi vs 288 ppi on the Tab S. Battery for the Note is 8220mAh where the Tab is 7990mAh. They both have the exact same camera, 8pm, with a 2mp front camera. Wifi, Bluetooth and USB are all exactly the same. Dual band AC wifi, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 2.0.
The Note however is a Snapdragon processor, meaning if you wanted to root or install a customer rom, there is a greater chance of developer support over the Tab S.
I hope this helps. Anymore questions, just shoot me a message.
Since the lollipop update my 2 year old Nexus 7 2013 has become quite slow so is there any way I could speed it up? If not could someone recommend me a decent android tablet?
I just wiped mine clean and put on SlimKat 4.4.4. Rooted and running great with solid battery life.
No one else's running slow? I've bought a Lg G pad 7.0 to use instead but that means I can root my Nexus 7 and install roms without worrying about bricking my main device . Amy recommendations in terms of roms that are light on the battery and the processor?
Theandroidfan: My Nexus 7 2013 has run very smoothly and has had great battery life on Broken OS Marshmallow. See https://plus.google.com/communities/116521990967962635243

are you rooted with a custom recovery?
If you are it is the same as flashing any other ROM. I went from stock 6.0.1 rooted to Slimkat 4.4.4 thru TWRP. Just need the ROM and the proper GAPPS.
If you are going to go thru all that or if you aren't rooted etc you may just want to wipe cache or factory reset. That usually fixes any of the slowdowns and funkiness. A factory reset will wipe everything though so be prepared to start over from scratch. Same as going from L to 4.4.4 will do. That is why I said you may want to try the wipe or factory first.

What?
I bought my nexus 7 on launch day and never was fully satisfied with it's performance. I tried some roms and such and was never fully happy with the balance of: bugs/performance/battery life (and I usually run every phone with CM).
After fixing my flex cables (auto rotation problems) I factory reset and flashed Android M. In my opinion that is the smoothest rom that ever ran on this tablet. They finally fixed some underlying kernel stuff (music stuttering when rotating the tablet to adjust the stereo speakers, streaming music suddenly stops when playing in the background while the tablet is in sleep mode). The only minor annoyance I found is that soundcloud sometimes lags, while hitting the multitasking button. And the system does not really want to use all of the available ram. Chrome likes to reload when multitasking for example.
But other than that it runs nice on Marshmallow. Try a clean install.
I agree Marshmallow runs very well on my Nexus 7. This is my second unit the first one was horrible with any version of android due to hardware issues I don't think any version of android is "broken" for the Nexus 7 2013. The difference between this and the old one is like night and day.
In my opionen Marshmallow runs very smooth on the flo, especially with pure nexus Rom. Multitasking, switching apps, surfing and navigate through für menus are best in MM. The big downside is that near all games run like **** on MM, that's fact. The same games are well playable on 4.4.4 is ridiclous. Even some games run like **** on my nexus 5 with MM but are playable on flo with 4.4.4 Dalvik. Of course it could be the games not optimized but nearly all games were updated often in the past without a change. The big downside of 4.4.4 is that it is not smooth like MM when navigate and multitasking.

I game on my Nexus 7 and when lollipop first came out I noticed some lag but all the games I play eventually updated and now I don't notice any difference in performance. Marshmallow runs awesome on this thing. Whether it's stock or a custom rom everything is smooth as silk.
@mydian which games? I will test it .
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk
Off the top of my head the only games I had big lag problems or low fps were Dead Trigger 2 and GTA Vice City, there were probably more though but those 2 run fine now. I've also played a lot of NFS Most Wanted, Plants Vs Zombies 2, Tetris, and Shooty Skies which have always ran fine. Lately I've been playing around mainly with NES and SNES emulators which have always ran fine. I'd be happy to try some for you as well if you want.
@mydian I remember dead trigger 2 still a lagfest on Marshmallow. Can you test these games in your flo, they must be a lagfest but are well playable on 4.4.4. Hearthstone, Legion of Heroes, Guild of Honor, Minion Rush, N.O.V.A. 3 freedom edition, Sword of Chaos. Report me if you test those games.
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk
I regularly play Nova 3, Modern Combat 3+5, Real Racing 3, Need for Speed most Wanted, Asphalt 7, Galaxy on Fire 2 with no lags.
Although I do get better Quadrant benchmark scores from my 2012 Nexus 7 GPU with Trickstermod kernel (60fps vs 24 fps) when testing?
Running MMB29Q 6.0.1 on my 2013 N7
@Tmzdroid Sorry but i don't believe you . I tested it myself and Nova 3 is well playable at 4.4.4 with 30fps(tested with fps Meter). On MM it is 2 seconds smooth and one second it's stuttering like **** and this goes through the hole gameplay. Modern combat 5 is not smooth on 4.4.4 or MM ever, it's like 25fps. Asphalt 7, most Wanted and Galaxy in Fire are quiete smooth on both 4.4.4 and MM you're right. But Real Racing 3... honestly this **** is a lagparty in 4.4.4 and MM like >20 fps. Even on my nexus 5 with adreno 330 it's lagging with 20fps, it cannot run smooth on the nexus 7 2013!

I would recommend the LG GPAD 3 or GPAD X. Better specs and display. It will be better for gaming. No root or even unlocked bootloader though. I returned this tablet. It's a bit laggy and display is pretty low quality.

it is still good for games i play every new game no lag on custom rom ,needed new battery i would invest so much in another tablet just for games unless it`s ipad in fall
unless u have money for a 3gb ram tablet like samsung tab S3 ,your limitations will be the ram these days the games takes a lot of ram it`s 64bit cpu though besides that play store from 2018 will be 64 bit apps exclusive like ios so need minimum 3gb ram in future good luck
