[Q] Change to UK firmware? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi folks
I'm in the UK and have a number (four to be precise) of imported Fire TVs for USA.
Now that the FireTV has been released here in UK, I thought that my USA fireTVs may have automatically downloaded the UK firmware but this hasn't happened. I've tried the 'check for updates' option in the menu but that doesn't change anything either. Is there any way to force the USA fireTVs to update to the UK firmware version?

If they are rooted you should wait for a PreRooted release of that FW or you will loose root. It takes time for Amazon to cycle the new FW thru. Don't think one can force it like with other platforms.

Hi thanks for the reply. None of my imported units are rooted, I saw no need to root as all I wanted was xbmc.
Now I'd like my imported units to run the UK fimrware becuase (needless to say) it's more suitable for those living in UK.
Any ideas?
Anyone?
Thanks

U might still be able to root depending what FW they are on. But that's u'r choice. So far there has been no branching of the FW. So there is no UK/GER/US FW. All the FW is the same. The Amazon account is the main difference. That is why US accounts can trick Amazon into allowing them to download or they can sideload UK only apps & vice versa.
It takes days if not weeks for Amazon to cycle the new FW thru the whole AFTV landscape. I would say stay patient & with no Amazon IP blocking if you don't care for root. I myself will just wait for @rbox to release a PreRooted version of the same FW everybody will get (unless actively blocking updates) in good time.
Note - Rooting would give you access to the Google PlayStore without the need to sideload & USB storage. You don't loose access to anything when rooted. You only gain. I see it as Owning your AFTV vs Renting it.

Y314K my man thank you so much for this info, very useful.
Having read your last post I agree there are some uses to rooting, such as the ability to load apps directly in FTV interface (via google play) and to use USB storage.
Could you please explain the meaning of:
"with no Amazon IP blocking if you don't care for root"
and also
"wait for a PreRooted version of the same FW everybody will get"
I don't understand - thanks.

Also, there must be some kind of different firmware between countries, because the USA version doesn't allow you to change the time zone to UK time zone. I really doubt somehow that the UK fireTVs have the same restriction, surely the software on the UK fireTVs allows you to change the time zone to UK time zone! and this must be down to the firmware version...

"with no Amazon IP blocking if you don't care for root" = Using the "Method 1: Domain blocking with Router – Recommended Method" from http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-setup-a-new-fire-tv-without-blocking-root/ to block updates. To keep the FireTV from updating to a FW that is not rootable at this time. FW 51.1.1.0_user_511070220 is the last rootable FW at this time.
"wait for a PreRooted version of the same FW everybody will get" = Us that are rooted & use CWM recovery. We can still update to latest FW once RBox has release a PreRooted version of it. Which is usually a few days after Amazon releases a link for it. Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/prerooted-stock-images-t2882337 (This PreRooted FW is only for rooted FTV's & it is installed thru the CWM custom recovery...)

There is no difference within the FW about countries. Right now the discrepancy is on the version of same FW each country is on. Not on any country difference. Eventually we will all be on the same version with the same options. Amazon does not update all FTV's at once. It does it in stages.
Read the descriptions on this page on each Stock FW version - http://www.aftvnews.com/software/
51.1.3.0_user_513011820 - Most of the US FTV's if they are not blocking updates are on this FW.
51.1.3.0_user_513011520 - Germany FTV's launched with this FW but the US did not get this FW until a week(s) later. Or if I am not mistaken it skipped us all together. We got upgraded to 51.1.3.0_user_513011820.
51.1.4.0_user_514006420 - UK just launch with their FTV's on this version. Eventually the German & US FTV's will be updated to that FW too & will have the same time zone options.
It is not UK FW or GER FW or US FW. It is Amazon Fire TV FW. But we don't all get updated to the latest FW at the same time. If they find any bugs on the 51.1.4.0_user_514006420 you might get an update even before the rest of use get updated to 51.1.4.0_user_514006420. Repeat: Amazon releases the same FW to different regions in different stages.

Thanks for spending the time to provide all of this information, I now understand.
I've finally sat down to set up my UK FTV just now, it's dowloading the latest software as we speak (I have no option I must do this).

It seems AFTVNews is trying to get proof that all FW is equal here= http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/uk-german-fire-tv-software-actually-t2916979 . I think it's equal but features are dependent on the Amazon account associated with your AFTV at setup.

This screen capture proofs it. Amazon is not telling you to change FW to get FreeTime access. It's telling you to change Country in your Amazon account to get FreeTime access.... I call that corroboration :highfive:.

Try Sam Firmware site.
Doesn't look like they've got the exact firmware but you might be happy with something else under the "Asia" group of firmware.
You will need Odin to flash this. Instructions are on the website. And you will need to create a login (simple, nothing much requested to create a profile).
Could someone provide modem file for this firmware???
Ok will definitely try it. Too bad it's not JPO, tho. So after flashing this, is it ok to put in an optimized kernel and stuff?
I got the phone up and running altlast yay... but via recovery mode.. still very eager to upgrade... but with this NZ version if possible
Have you got any way of posting the rom? I have tried upgrading via the keis registry hack and it tells me that the original jj1 is not ready for upgrade.
Any help would be appreciated. I am on the Telecom network.
Cheers.
Be great if the modem from the TNZ could be extracted!
For ROM downloading, try this guy here:
http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000...41/samsung-mobile-firmware-queries-downloads/
I think he's ok. I once sent him 6 euros for a query and a download request and he returned them right back, because my specific ROM wasn't available.
Thanks for the link mate
I'm watching this one as well. After bricking my I9000T already trying to get to 2.2 I'm ikely to try this soon (when I get it back). Not game to do it on the wifes phone
Do we know if this is official TNZ branded firmware, or generic/unbranded?
@all, will this get the official froyo on my 850 next g telstra(australia) I9000T? and can you plzz tellme how to upgrade with kies hack? sorry im a noob, plzz help me out..id be greatful. cheers
Open up 'regedit' and go to the 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB' key. Then delete all the keys below it (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...).
Then open Kies and connect your phone so that it is detected by Kies.
Close Kies and run the EXE that you download for the Registry Patcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628).
You should get a prompt to set the patch to 'True', select your sales code (not sure what Telstra is sorry), the current versions you want to report etc.
I haven't gone any further than that personally as I don't have 'my' phone back and the risk of problems from doing the wife's is just too frighting LOL.

I'm with Telstra (GT-9000T) and I flashed this with Kies and the reg patcher. Works well, 850 band still there had to put the Telstra info back in for MMS and Internet.
This had a "telecom" splash on start up and two apps from the the same brand. Still much better then the 26 Telstra puts on.
Hope this helps.

Guessing the two apps were 'Y!X TWorld' and 'Your Telecom'? That is pretty much the Telecom customised firmware then. While I hate customised firmware I'm pretty keen to get to 2.2 so perhaps the wife's phone will succumb afterall

And Flash Player .
I was really surprised when I got the phone home a few weeks ago that I couldn't immediately update to 2.2, seeing is it has been out for months and all. I guess that's one of the annoying things about each hardware manufacturing trying to put their personal touch on things. Might look at the Nexus S for this reason a bit later...

[*] Connect phone and wait until the ID:COM in Odin is blue.
[*] I flashed BL AP CP and CSC with positive results.
[*] Click the start button, sit back and wait until its done.
[*] Embrace the Dark Side.

Somethings to note;
This zip is a monster 7.7gb.
I could not dirty flash and had to do a full wipe.
I could not update Galaxy apps over WiFi, only on LTE. (it may be a network issue unique to me, ymmv.)
Initial boot took FOREVER. It felt like 10 minutes. Loaded on your device its close to 35gb once booted. So what I' saying is be patient on first boot, because activation took another 10.

Compatible devices?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
@6h0st this is untouched (not rooted), from Samsung, so theoretically there wont be any knox problems. @speedyjay I'm not sure if there are any flash restrictions between devices (other than Snapdragon vs Exynos). I haven't had any issues as of yet, but I could be both very wrong and extremely lucky. I can say with 100% confidence it works great on N975U & U1 as this is a U1 firmware on my U device.

From OP it looks like stock.
Hey guys, I've moved this to the general section for now given it's not exactly a rom and more of a stock firmware. Also any update on a download link? I realize you may have gotten excited and decided to draw up an op which I totally get. It does take quite a bit of time and effort to make one. My guess is that you had hoped it would be uploaded by the time you made it and it either failed to upload or took too long. As I'm sure you know XDA doesn't really like the whole place holder thing so let's try to get the link set for people. Please ping me here when you get it all set. If we can't get the links resolved soon the thread will be of no use and have to be closed. So fingers crossed you can get this sorted out shortly
Almost 8GB???! Great Scott! Does it turn our phones into a cybertruck?
Morning, @Negan. Thanks for the move. AFH failed, I was up until 0200 trying to up the zip, but AFH misfired. I'm uploading to Mega now and should have a proper working link in about an hour or so. Thanks for your patience!
Edit:

See this is where it all began... *#1234#* had me on 3 different versions & when I would try to update it would say "unsupported version goto service center blah". So I fired up Odins other half (Frija) and pulled the latest version for the N975U1 with XAA region to minimize bloat. What I downloaded was this 7+gb firmware (that rocks btw), and now it says I'm upto date. Ill know in January when the new patch drops!
Thanks for sharing this with the comunity. A few questions and concerns, first (question), can we revert back to stock non-dark side rom from this?
Second (concern)-you uploaded to mega, not everyone has a mega accnt, an accnt is requiered after certain file size so getting it from there in a no go?.
Third (question), I checked using frija and samfirm, both showed the same firmware with same file size (7+Gb) using diferent CSC's, TMB, USC and XAA, Are they the same?, meaning they ALL are Dark Side edition.
Sorry to bother you with all this, but my note 10+ is on at&t and we all know how difficult the process is for this specific carrier because of the online firmware availabilty and teh specifics on how and what to flash we we switch firmwares.

Not a bother at all! Ill try and answer in their order:
1. Being an ATT device, I think the only challenge is finding the proper stock firmware for going back. I would suggest that you have a copy of the ATT firmware on hand before flashing, in case things go sideways. That being said however, reverting back to any other firmware or rom should be like replacing any other rom/firmware. Because this is stock that has been heavily themed by the OEM in preparation for joint release of the final Star Wars movie, 'Rise of Skywalker'. I think worst case scenario would be you spend all day downloading and flashing different roms until it works.
2. Easiest solution: Open a free Mega account if you want to download it. Or dont make one and don't download. All the choices belongs to you. Finding a (reliable) file host for a file that is sooo big is incredibly difficult. AnonFiles, HugeFIles and a couple more still require the uploader to make an account. I already had a Mega account so I used it.
3. I don't know, I would bet yes if its 7+gb. Happy flashing!
I started with an Unlocked note 10 plus SM-N975U1 downloaded the zip from Frija used odin it booted with the dark side theme applied and December patch.
Also you can use the default theme which is what i was use to. Thanks

Probably not, it's merely 5Gb.
Downloaded and installed. As expected, a wipe ( or using CSC, not Home CSC) is required. Since I got the 10+ I haven't done a clean install , so besides the visual dark theme, it feels like the phone is responding quicker. Pretty sure it isn't placebo, but a result of starting all from scratch. Thanks for the link to Mega to download. Feels a bit like the good old flash OCD days ..

EMUI 11 [Global] Huawei P30 (ELE)

Huawei has finally begun the rollout of EMUI 11 for the Huawei P30 (ELE) and P30 Pro (VOG) today. The version is 11.0.0.138 and the package size is about 1.81 GB.
How to check for the update:
1. go to Settings then System & updates, then open Software update, select Check for updates
2. open the Support app, go to the Service tab on the bottom bar, tap on the update, then select Check for updates and then download and install
3. connect to a PC with a USB cable and check for updates in HiSuite
Feel free to share your experience with EMUI 11, please also share the exact type of your device (e.g. ELE-L29 C431E27R2P5) and how did you manage to update to EMUI 11, also mention from which build did you update.
In case the download method or updating with HiSuite proxy will be available, also share a how-to and I kindly ask you to perform a SafetyNet test.
I used VPN and chose China, then set the region of my phone to Nepal yesterday. The Support app found 10.1.0.201 with this trick. Then today, about an hour ago I checked the Support app again and it finally offered me to update to EMUI 11. Hooray!

It is only anything newer than the p30 series that cannot use google apps. Nothing is going to suddenly change on your phone.

I think these already didn't have Google services since launch. If the P30 has them, we good

They didn't, that was my point. It's only newer devices that are without Google services.
I just got my P30 (ELE-L29 UK Unlocked) updated to EMUI11, updated to the January security update, then enabled my VPN with china selected then checked for updated in the support app.
Also a sidenote, this is EMUI11 but it's still android 10, and good gesture navigation is still not working with Nova launcher
Edit: Now fails safetynet, so no google pay for now....

How come that your phone failed the safetynet test if you updated via OTA? I'm on 11.0.0.138(C431E8R2P3) and it passes the test and Google Pay works fine.
I believe that gesture navigation will not work perfectly if you use a third-party launcher. I use Evie launcher and I also had to install MyGesture app from Play Store. I like it better than the stock gestures, more customizable.

I have no idea, I did a backup with hisuite, factory reset with recovery mode and now it passess, so it might have been a bug or one-off or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
got update today, UK Vodafone, ele-l09 /c431e8r3p3/
Yesterday my phone received the EMUI 11 update (build 11.0.0.138), no need to do any trick. Model ELE-L29, unlocked, Spain.
Since the upgrade, VoLTE was enabled (it was off before the update) and the option to disable VoLTE is no longer available on the settings menu.
Anyone with the same issue? Any way to disable VoLTE using call codes or something else?
Stll nothing here. Getting frustrated because the website for my phone company shows the update as being released.
friends I have a P30 model ELE-L04 and I have not found any information regarding this model regarding emui 11. Do you have information about it?

TCL S434 Firmware Question

Hi!
I just purchased a TCL 43S434 and I've been searching through the forums here learning what I can about it.
From what I can find, it sounds like firmware version V440 is the latest firmware I could find on these forums for my particular TV. The part that is confusing me is it would appear that the version I am running now is V122 (Unless I'm not reading this right), not V440. I would have expected these to be sequential, so I'm concerned I'm on a much older firmware. OTA update feature says there are no updates available for me.

Thanks!
What is release date of firmware ?
Android 9 ?
As per pic....V8-R51MT02-......you can install version with Android 11.
Hi @stasiof, thank you for the quick response. I was hoping you would find your way to my post as you seemed very knowledgable on the topic when I was doing some searching around.
I've attached (below) another screenshot that should hopefully answer your questions.
Can you tell me a little about what the R51MT02 relates to? Why exactly does that determine I can run Android 11? Where might one find newer firmware with say Android 11 on it? I assume on this forum somewhere.
Thank you for all your help.
Ok, let start with some history....
Previous S434 models (2020 version) has a bit different hardware inside TV.
This is how you found firmware V440.....
V8-R851T02-LF1V440.017008
Anyway ,this you can't flash ,as your is now V8-R51MT02.
I found your version and you can keep as backup....V122:
http://na-update.cedock.com/apps/resource2/V8R51MT02/V8-R51MT02-LF1V122/FOTA-OTA/V8-R51MT02-LF1V122.019313.zip
Other then this I found test version V999 dated Apr 26 2021....1.12GB
http://na-update.cedock.com/apps/resource2/V8R51MT02/V8-R51MT02-LF1V999/FOTA-OTA/V8-R51MT02-LF1V999.019587.zip
About Android 11...
Models 2021 rather then N.America version using same firmware......
V8-R51MT02 with A11.
As your model is without Dolby Vision and some other stuff, not sure how
will run on your model.

If I found other firmware, I will post here....in future.
Thanks so much for providing this extra information!
I have read through that thread you linked about the newer firmware. And I have one follow up question. After going through the thread, it appears that the latest firmware for R51MT02 is V256 (link to your post in that thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...c05-beyondtv6-beyondtv4.4255729/post-85161485)
In that post you mentioned that V256 has a build date of June 05th. and that appears to be the latest R51MT02 firmware (V8-R51MT02-LF1V256). Is there a particular reason I would want to run that V999 (build date April 26th) version you referenced instead of this V256?
Also, as a side note. It's interesting that the V256 security patch is 2020-12-05 when the security patch in my V122 is 2021-1-05. Just a curiosity.
Thanks again!
V999 posted above is Android 9 (still) test version deducated for N.America models.
V256 is Android 11 global version, bigger in zip file (200MB more) ,for wider range of TCL models with RT51M chassis (as your).
Security patch date is not so important.
If not happy ,with both, you can always flash your present version V122 back.
Edit:
If everything ok with your firmware , I will leave as it.
Can someone confirm whether IPTV applications (Smart IPTV, Timate etc) works on the V256 firmware?

nope couldn't get any firmware to work i got lucky and got a update version of the same tv on warranty
Weird question can you get HDR10+ logo to show on some stuff with this TV? It technically can't according to specs but I can get the logo instead of HDR if it's HDR10+
my new 43s434 is on V8-R851T02-LF1V449.018073 and see here 458 is the newest version but it says mine is up to date when I try network update. any idea if I can do a manual update without messing it up.

Question Galaxy Z Fold 4 - Demo unit

Hi everyone,
I have a live demo unit Samsung Fold 4 SM936B/DS (000... imei).
I obtained it for free from a friend who has an internet provider store and received it as a retailer (because this device has no market he says...).
I'm using it as a tablet and I'm loving it.
This phone is amazing, just holding it feels great, the premium feel is intense.
Now, it works perfectly except for the retail mode, which does not allow me to do certain things (screen lock, energy save mode ecc.).

Yes, it's in Italian.
Does anyone knows how to get rid of this mode?
I tried everything, but this mode is always on (wow samsung, well done!).
There is no Retail app on the phone.
What I've done:
- Wipe data and factory reset (this was easy)
- Flash stock firmware with same csc via ODIN (WWA)
- Flash updated firmware and kernel with android 13
- Change CSC (EUX)
- Root with Magisk
- LsPosed with Zygisk (searched for some module in it with no success)
- Successfull USB ADB su
(Really, is this mode written with some kind of magic or with Mjöllnir on the cpu?)
Doesn't seems like Chimera or Z3X have the remove demo functionality for this phone yet.
Regarding this, why? Why chimera has only basic functionalities for the entire Galaxy Fold branch?
Any idea of what else can I try?
Secondary question:
Is it possible through some kind of advanced or fancy tool to repair the IMEI?
Attention: I'm not asking to replace IMEI as it is illegal, but to repair the original device IMEI (as I think it should have a modem).
I am not really an expert in the android's stuff but as a software programmer (or at least I try my best) I can try to perform some usually "hard" procedures.
Thank you
You can repair imei only if knox void 0*0
My Knox void is 0x1.
Do all original imei repair methods require knox 0x0?
For example, i was looking for a method which edit efs files with hex editor (doesn't work as I don't have the indicated files).
What does knox void have to do with imei and demo mode?
Thank you!

For these devices, the imei is repair on the Samsung cpid server
One of the most important conditions is Void 0
It's a demo unit so you're never going to be able to repair the IMEI issue. Samsung deliberately send out demo units with gimped modems to retailers so when these phones are snatched, they're next to useless.
Get a replacement board, sell for spares or if I was on another website, I'd tell you to give it back.......

Thank you for your reply!
In this case, i think I'll use it as a tablet, you know, it's free!
I'll wait for chimera to release Imei repair and patch certificate(if ever); on older models it is possible to apply also on knox 1 status.
Hi, do you maybe have this video on your phone? I saw it on the phone in the store but dont have it on my fold 4
So many misleading information here on this thread;
Let me a correct a few; and link this whenever this discussion starts somewhere. It's an effing pain to see this getting repeated again and agin.
----
Demo units (After S10) are an exact match to commercial units which are sold, the only thing missing is an IMEI.
Prior to this, They used to "not have" SIM Slots, Modems, Antenna and other various hardware differences.
Demo units have X in their model code's end while commercial units have F / B codes. (eg: G980F is commercial and G980X is Demo).
Most common accusation (not here - in general) is that you have stolen a demo unit from a shop - No, They aren't always stolen, sometimes samsung gives them away to their store employees when the product is marked EOL. Some do get stolen as well, but at a time where we are monitored by CCTV 24/7 - what are the odds of that nowadays?
You can remove the demo mode loop / demo apps by flashing a stock firmware from ODIN and use it as a tablet with just WIFI connectivity. You cant make calls from this yet - without the IMEI.
If you need to use it as a phone with cellular connectivity, You need to generate and assign an IMEI for it. For this you need someone with Samsung CPID server access, Let them know your DID code from Download mode - and the phone needs to be stock (Not Rooted / Knox 0x0). This service costs and you can find many sellers with a Google search. They will connect to you over TeamViewer to carry out the process.
If the Phone is rooted, there is a certificate patch method - but that is temporary and gets wiped when the phone is updated or sometimes even when rebooted.
The Demo Error which OP speaks of - cannot be removed. I have a fully converted Fold 4 from a demo (With IMEI - see top of attached screenshot) and later rooted it as well. Still I couldnt figure out how to remove this error. I modified the EFS files (Product Code / Region Code) too, and didnt remove the below error. It may be linked to the same reason why we cannot change the 4th CSC of the phone. It doesnt affect in any daily work, and the phone works fine. Just the error shows up in a few settings screens.
