Camera Cracked Internally & Externally!

Hi,
I have an HTC Desire which is a little over a week old, though on Saturday I got my desire knocked out of my hand and took a fall onto gravel and the battery cover's camera lens cracked and now has a thick crack through the middle which is not much of a problem as it is easily replaceable, though the glass which covers the lens/sensor cracked into many pieces though I do not know if it is a filter of some sort or just some dust protector. (I can still use the camera without a problem).
Should I send it for repair to get the protector put in, or will I be ok just buying a new battery cover?

It's likely not just a filter of some sort, but an important part of the optical design. It could be replaceable, but normally replacing lens elements requires re-calibration of the entire lens itself. I doubt though, that they would replace just a part of the lens, they would likely swap the entire thing. I'm pretty sure HTC buy these lenses/modules already assembled and calibrated from someone who specializes in making such things.

Just for everyone benefit i also cracked the back cover plastic screen and also the glass screen on the camera as well. The back cover is easily replaceable by a new back cover off eBay for £12.99 or the lens piece itself for about a £5 i think, which is easy to find but i decided to replace the internal glass myself. I found this on eBay for £7.49:

Using an old sack pin i manage to remove the cracked glass, the trick is to prize up the black plastic the glass is stuck too, that way no shards fall off into the camera itself.
I thoroughly cleaned the camera and new glass with an anti-static wipe.
You have to push out gently the four plastic stripes round the camera that the glass fits into so the new glass fits it snuggly when you push it in.
I did make a hash of it to begin with and touched the back of the glass so it was smudged and got a bit of glue on it. I put an anti-static wipe on the needle end of the sack pin and cleaned it thoroughly and this did the trick. To test it though use barcode scanner as well as the camera app.
I haven't much patience and have large fingers, i guess you could take more time and use more precise tools to do a better job but as the camera isn't the most important function for me this was fine.
I did contact the HTC repair shop that was listed on XDA and this was there reply:

I guess if you have phone insurance that would be a better way to go but as i didn't i saved a few quid doing it myself, it only took 15 mins to do, not hard at all.

Replacing the lens cover of the camera

The little square plastic cover of my camera lens has got a ding in it. Has anyone else replaced one of these and if so how difficult is it. Also where could I source one from? Thanks in advance.

I replaced the whole back part at a samsung official technical shop because of a scratch but if it's not a scratch, just open it and clean it with pressurised air (but it's a bit risky because you might loose warranty)

I bought the part from ebay for about 12 CAD shipped and replaced it myself. Quick and easy job, took about 10 minutes altogether.

Great video, it actually looks fairly easy to replace the back cover...thanks man that's a big help

Yes it was done by samsung's affiliated repair shop in France, it was because le little plastic was scratched very hard with sand (beach etc) so all photos i would take were blured with a white fog
I'm not a huge fan of opening anything except my computer but i'm sure it could be done easily since it's just opening and cleaning (or whatever, i have not really understood what happened to you camera )
to find the part, i found someone on xda that had provided a link to the original parts of the samsung galaxy S2 for like 10 bucks which was very difficult to find because as a french i wasn't knowing the exact word for the "backplate or whatever it is"
now i know it, just google "galaxy S2 original housing" and you'll find plenty results like this one here (assuming you have to change the whole back cover )
and last things it cost me 25€ for the back only with no extra battery cover which is a bit overpriced :V

I actually just wanted to change the mid part to white to have the contrasting black/white lol. just give my phone a bit more character. The hardest part about replacing the housing though was taking the speaker out of the old one and putting it in the new one (where the hump is).

Wow...that was easier than I expected. The kit is the same quality as the original as far as I can tell. The case cost me about $30on ebay.
Following the video I'd say that most people could probably repair their phones without too much trouble.

Have anybody actually tried to change only the camera lens cover?
I can find the part here on ebay, but I can't seem to find any instruntion or teardown on how to exchange it.
Is it glued on?

I've done this, and it's relatively simple.
1. Remove battery cover and battery (you can remove micro sd and sim if you like).
2. Remove the 7 screws with a precision screwdriver, do not lose.
3. Carefully pry back half of phone from front half (I just used my thumb nails), be careful not to lose volume & power buttons.
4. The lens cover has three tabs that enter from the outside of the phone, and fold over on the inside to prevent it moving. Fold these out so that they are vertical (in doing so mine broke, but this does not matter as we are installing a new lens cover).
5. Once tabs are vertical, push lens cover out (this may take some persuasion).
6. Install new lens cover, fold tabs back and put phone back together.
Let me know if you need photos or further details.

Xperia play front housing?

So i have a dent in my front housing as well as a few cracks (from dropping the phone) , I was wondering if I would have to take apart the whole phone to replace it or if the two screws (which are covered) behind the screen will suffice. Thanks in advance.

To the best of my knowledge you do have to take apart the whole phone.

Does the play have any warranty stickers?

Replace Chrome trim on SGS2?

I'm trying to find a source on whether I can replace the trim know my phone since it's been dinged from the previous owner as well as myself.
I've found some the link to the replacement screen thread but it doesn't say if the lcd is part of the top or how to get it out? I've seen some oem housings online but not sure if I can remove my lcd which is fine and put it in the newer housing?
Is there glue or adhesive that holds it in?

You just need to unscrew the backplate and exchange it.
No glue no adhesives or something. it just sits there.
It will take about 10 minutes or so..
Here is a picture of the part:
Mine fell out of its place, the last i had the phone opened and i´m to lazy to put it back.
Edit: sorry for that huuuuge picture.. blame our 8mp camera.

Sorry - but I think we have a misunderstanding. I'm talking about the chrome trim around the entire LCD not the camera.

oh.. honestly i don´t think that the part you described is chrome. Atleast not on my GSII
and the thing i posted is the shiny ring around the headphone plug.

OP its not chrome its plastic..
1) replace the whole screen housing with with working parts from say ebay
2) buy a whole SGS2 housing unit and plus top screen ( this option you'll need to remove youe current lcd screen and once replaced in new housing the top screen needs to be bonded to housing. (M3 double sided tape or a thin silcon glue)
3) take it to a service centre
4)keep it as it is..

Top screen will need to be heated with hot air to release it from its bond.

Thanks - that's what I wanted to hear. So it's more effort than I'd like to spend on it. Looks like I'll just move the phone to try something else.

How to fix back glass properly to keep water proof?

Seems all I can find is how to replace rear glass and lose the factory water seal.
Is there some place to purchase the back glass with the tape that goes properly around the camera and led lens?
How do you guys fix it properly?
I'm thinking silicone glue might work, but it would be very difficult to apply a thin line and hope it doesn't get on to something that will cause problem.

First... If you put silicone glue , you wont be able to take it out if you need to replace it again , or it will be very dificult.... And probably you will apply it badly and it will expand to other parts of the phone and break them ...
Second , there is a thin tape from 3M that might work but is really dificult to apply and i dont know if it protects against water
The best thing to donis replace it with normal "screen" glue and be carefull

In amazon you can find that tape from 3M double face with just 1mm from 7€

Thank you for the comment. I was thinking the same but the thing is when you put the tape around the camera and LED lens, there is going to be a seam which could let water through. But I guess I could just drop a tiny drop of glue on to the seam.? I need to search for "screen glue" now. Any suggestions?
The reason I'm doing the repair is not because of looks, but because I want the phone to be water resistant again like factory.
(I just bought the phone and ordered the case to arrive the next day. As I'm waiting the next day, it falls out of my pocket while trying to get inside a car. Being about 2 feet off the ground. I'm very surprised how weak the glass is because it hit the frame first and cracked the corner.)
I spent a total of 3 hours. Not only searching for Pixel but also Samsung Galaxy and everybody that does the repair ends up doing it by destroying the phones water resistant feature. I have not found one tutorial or video on YouTube that somebody fixes the phone the factory way so it retains the water resistance or waterproof, whatever you want to call it.

You can also search for a screen that comes with the original sticker (tape) ... That might work

The problem with the rear replacement glass is that the only adhesive is around the glass and nothing around the camera and LED lens.
