I have 2 unlimited data lines both have upgrades available. I was going to do the Best Buy trick by ordering one and having it shipped to my house and then throw away the sim that comes with it and put my old sim in the phone. Problem with this is Best Buy is only doing in store pickups for the Note 4 and the closest one is 3 hours away. Will the Verizon thing work? That is where you do an upgrade on someones line but when you get the phone you stick the sim from your other line into the phone?

Yes and no... Yes you can do this but u must keep a data package on that line you upgraded on for the duration of the contract, so not worth it in the end. I think with all the loopholes closed the option is to buy off contract which I'll be doing tomorrow morning.

Both of my lines already have data packages on them so it shouldn't be any extra. I upgrade Line 1 thru Verizon and when the phone comes in I take the sim card from Line 2 and put it in the phone. Then I do the opposite to upgrade the other line. Any flaws in that method?

If I'm understanding you correctly then yes there is a flaw. When you upgrade line 1 you will lose unlimited data on that line. You can put the sim from line 2 in the phone and then you will be able to keep unlimited on line 2. As soon as you upgrade line 2 you will lose the unlimited on that as well. What might work for you to keep unlimited on JUST one of the lines is: After you upgrade line 1 and switch sims to put the phone on line 2, then go and TRANSFER line 2 upgrade to line 1 and upgrade line 1 again. You will still lose unlimited on line 1 though.

Yes correct. Just confirmed what others have said, unfortunately you'll lose unlimited on one line
The only way to keep unlimited is to buy for full price.
The only way to keep unlimited is to buy for full price. (As I did). They send you new SIM card, inserted into the phone, that activates your new phone. If you insert your old SIM card (from previous phone) and try to activate
you will get an error > coll to 877**** (customer service). :crying:
So, no tricks with switching
Back when we were told that Verizon was going to start throttling unlimited data customers, I decided to see just how much data I could download in a month. I could have broken 10 TB if I was in an area with a better bandwidth. I suppose ~240GB's a day ain't too shabby. All directly to the phone, no tethering.

I think people fail to realize you can take the sim card out of the phone before it is turned on. Its the first thing I do and then put my old sim in it. I did it for my wifes line when I got her a new s4 on her unlimited line earlier this year. She still has unlimited now and I used the upgrade for her line. If you go to store do not let them turn on device for you. I did the same thing with my note 4 when it arrived yesterday, before inserting battery, remove new sim and insert old sim from previous phone. Phones boots up and says sim already active and no plan change. Plans dont go into effect until the sim card is activated. If that never happens then it never gets changed. The only thing I noticed changed was the actual term of the contract did renew as normal when upgrading.

In all fairness, it was a chore hitting 7.28 TB. I effectively started a download of 60+GB(all I had available on my SD card) from my Google drive, and set alarms to remind me to reset the download every 6 hours. After I hit 240GB the first day, I knew the total was going to be ridiculous. I'm waiting to get chastised by the "it's because of people like you!", crowd. I called Verizon to ask em if there were any better plans, and the rep mistakenly read it as 7.28 GB, and suggested a 10GB/mo plan(despite that costing 3.5x than the $30/mo I'm on for unlimited). She put me on hold after I pointed out the mistake, presumably to catch her breath, and show coworkers the ridiculousness. Pretty sure if there's a "watch list" with Verizon, I'm on it now.
Yea every time I call they say you know you can upgrade and I say only if I can use unlimited still. They look and say never mind. Most haven't seen my 100+ GB a month. I'd like to see what they say when your account is brought up
I went to Verizon store today and the reps told me that if I did an upgrade on another line and transferred the note 4 to my grandfathered plan line that I would lose the unlimited data plan after a month or 2. They said the plan follows the phone. They said the only way to keep unlimited plan is to buy phone outright - no upgrades. 2 reps told me the same thing. Are they just lying or confused or is this actually possible? I understand why they want to close the dumb phone data plan loophole but this seems to go beyond that. I asked them for something official that states this will happen. They could not provide anything. If is is true can someone point me to the official word from Verizon?

I don't have official word from Verizon, but I did the upgrade on my third (non unlimited) line (Transferred/ordered online). Once I received the Note 4, I took out the SIM and transferred the one from my existing phone to the Note 4. Been running 3 days without issue. Attached screenshot showing Note 4 with unlimited data. I'm into a new billing cycle since I activated the Note 4 and my contract end date still states "Month to month". I'll keep you posted if anything changes, but I did this same thing with my wifes phone last year and we are both still on unlimited.
I'm considering replacing my VZW MotoX with a Note4 because it looks like Best Buy is running a $99 Note 4 promotion (with trade-in). I have unlimited data on the Moto X and it is eligible for the upgrade. We have a second MotoX on the 2GB plan but it doesn't have an upgrade available yet. Here's my plan - transfer the upgrade to the 2GB Moto X and upgrade it to the Note 4. Then I put the SIM from the unlimited Moto X into the Note 4 before it is turned on (this would require a nano-to-micro adapter). Then I need to reactivate the 2GB Moto X somehow. Would that keep the unlimited data on the Note 4?
Here is all the info you need. Be sure to read carefully the different methods possible and ask questions on there if you have any.

I did the same thing, but in store at best buy since that's the only way to get it from them at the moment. They activated the phone on the non-unlimited line (said they had to activate it). I turned the phone off, called Verizon and had them reactivate the old sim for the non-unlimited phone, then did a factory reset on the new note 4 just to be safe and popped in the unlimited sim. No issues so far here either.

First you need to have an available upgrade. So lets say you have one unlimited line and it available for upgrade, as soon as you purchase a 2 years contract phone, that data plan will change, doesn't matter how you activate the device. The only way is you need an additional line with upgrade available then transfer this upgrade to your unlimited line when active on the unlimited line when you received the device. The second option is buy a full retail device.

You using data doesn't slow down anyone else. They have been selling this data is scarce thing forever which isn't true. What slows us down is them over selling which they will never stop as long as they can sell it. but lol She probably had no idea what to do those numbers don't make any sense!!

I just wanted to ask others opinion on how they feel about AT&T taking away the unlimited data plan with the smart phone packages unless you got grandfathered in from having the unlimited data before all this took place.
Well for many many months i have wondered why i didnt get grandfathered in because i had the unlimited before with WM6.5, well they failed to mention it to me and i thought i still had it, but come to find out i got put on the 2gb plan and havent went over the limit for a long time. The past couple months i have went over and got txt saying i reached 75% of my data then 100% and was being charged 10$ for extra gb. I called them to consult them with the problem and they tell me i should have been grandfathered in with my old data plan being unlimited but that they were sorry that i had went past the 3month period to be able to ask for it, and that i had to stay on the rated data plan. So with that said i called them back couple days later and told them i wanted to switch to a old phone i had " LG-VU" and wanted the unlimited data plan, then i gave them my IMEI number and switched devices but never even took out the sim from my samsung focus. They say that it would not work without the smart phone data plan but it still performs as it was before and i have unlimited data plan. I have called the *3282# to see, and it says unlimited data and that the other 2gb plan is deactivated.
My question is if anyone else has experienced this kinda situation before as i have and what they did about it. Will AT&T be able to see that i am still using the focus and not the Vu?
When i had the WM6.5 i never told them what device i was using, i just put sim card in and edited the APN and never had to have smart phone data.
Many opinions Appreciated!!
i had same problem. i was told after having an htc fuze with unlimited data that i could not be grandfathered in with my new smart phone even after explaining that the fuze was also a smart phone. its now been a year though. i may try your method of getting the unlimited data back.
I was determined to figure a way around it, especially after the Hot Spot hack, using that for my xbox 360 live. But it seams to be do the trick so far, its been a couple days now and i havent gotten any alert as i did before, but thats not saying i wont get one saying im being charged. So lets hope this is a work around with a dumb phone!!
All I did was upgrade my phone in a store then call ATT after my first bill stating that I was told I would keep my unlimited plan and if they dont want to give it back I can just return the phone and go with another provider... lets just say I have unlimited data again.
They will try to say you went past the the 14 day return but just tell them that you were sold the phone on false pretenses and that it was a mistake on their end. They will fold once you get past the first teir rep.
I have done this upgrading from a iPhone 2G to 3GS and then from 3GS to WP7. I also managed to get it when I added a second line for my GF with the old 3GS haha... Play stupid and just go with the old, "I was told I would get this.... are you telling me I was lied to by one of your ATT sales people?" they trip over themselves then give you what you want.

I didn't have any problem at all. But then, when I heard about the change, I went straight to an AT&T store to make sure I had a guarantee that I would be grandfathered in no matter what. When I upgraded from my Fuze to a Focus, I had no trouble, and I'm still unlimited a year later.

As for me, it looks like some kind of criminal transaction. Somehow this guy got access to AT&T billing/accounting system and makes non-authorized changes in database. I prefer to stay with my 2 Gb only data plan but w/o possible problems...
I think that guy is doing the same thing as i did, but he is charging ppl to call and do it for you. All i did was change the IMEI by supplying them with it and acctivating unlimted data for that dumb device, But keep my sim card in my Focus. As you can see in my screen capture on phone that i just took a few min before i posted showing that the 2gb plan was cancelled and unlimited was activated.
Lets just hope this is a work around sollution for this, as it is working as of now!!
I only pay $40 a month unlimited everything through simple mobile... I don't know how much you guys are paying but can't beat that deal... And its $40 flat...not $40 plus this and that fee.

How about your bill? How much AT&T charges for unlim? $30/m as it was before?
Hmm you maybe right on that, i wouldnt do all those phones for that much.
My current unlimited data is costing me 15 a month now.
i wonder if this would work on their gophone as well?
register a dumbphone for the $50 unlimited and then put the sim in a smartphone?
does the network read IMEI when the device tries to connect?
for me, when i got my gophone sim card, i didn't have my focus with me, so the att rep entered all 0's or 1's for imei, does it read the phone and change them? or is there a way to see what phone they think i'm using?
sorry if it's a bit off topic, but it's very interesting to me
Still Unlimited
I went from an ATT FUZE with a PDA Unlimited Plan to an ATT Samsung Focus and the rep merely moved my SIM in the FUZE to the Focus last December and I still have the Unlimited Plan.
Hmm, I think I'll switch to the unlimited and not add data and see what happens, worst case I spend an extra $25 next month

I just switched to att $10 unlimited last night using my SIM in my HD2 and telling them my IMIE number (which att's system didnt recognize) I told them I was using a t-mo dumbphone becuase my focus broke (lie) and they switched me over no problem. I'm going to use my HD2 for a little bit then go back to my focus and see what happens
On a side note you can get a gophone from walmart for like $10 its a samsung a107 then toss your sim in that call them up with the IMIE num and they will move you over to a dumbphone plan as well.

Yes the system reads the IMEI when connecting, but i think it will also work for gophones also. I dont know what the rates are for those plans but i dont think it will catch it unless the done a manual audit on it, witch they have no reason to do so.

Its 15 for the unlimited data, but i have the Media Max Unlimited plan for $35. The $15 plan mentioned is for the Media Net unlimited. That gives you unlimited data access only, but i need sms unlimited also cause there are alot of my friends that can only txt.
My AT&T Note 2 arrived this afternoon (full-price, no-commitment; I'm still under contract for my old AT&T phone). When I called to activate the Note 2, I was told that my grandfathered data plan is "incompatible" with the Note 2 and had to agree to a 3GB plan instead. But this is the first I heard of the incompatibility. When I placed the order, there was no mention of any need to change the data plan.
I don't see how it can be lawful of AT&T to impose a requirement that they failed to disclose at the time of purchase a couple of weeks ago.
You better keep calling and trying, ask to speak with a supervisor. You have to say you werent told this before you ordered and others were able to order just fine and keep their unlimited data. Should work out for you.
When did they start enforcing this? Best bet is go to your local store.
I accepted the 3GB plan for now because it was the only way they'd activate the phone, but I'll see if I can get it changed.

you got tricked. happens all the time. Now you need to complain like all hell and sit on the phone for hours on end. no matter what you do...
do not hang up and do not settle for anything but what you want. they will feed you all sorts of lies...but that is what they are...lies. dont give in and you can get your unlimited data back.
long story short I paid an extra 100 for this phone just so I would hopefully never have to speak to a csr again.
Two months ago they pulled this **** with me and revoked my plan. It took a while but I spoke to this guy way high up at att who gave it back to me. Let me try and find his number for you.
ATT has fudged my plan up also. To start they sent my phone with the wrong sim card and my sim card went to someone else. Then after changing sim cards they can not get data to work on my sim card. After 3 hours on the phone they said they can't figure out what is wrong and put in a 24 hour ticket. How hard is it to enter two numbers into a database, the IMEI and SIM?

I just sent the OP the private number of a guy who works at AT&T corporate who got my unlimited plan back for me. He is very nice and has the power to re-add it no matter what. Just call him and leave him a message ASAP!!

Can I have that number too? lol
It sounds like I have the same problem as Ishmael... the probably removed my unlimited when I activated the sim card... heads are gonna roll!
When I activated mine the same thing happened. Called into Premier and they tried to tell me I had to use the new data plan due to the GF one being incompatible; told them that I know of several people with other LTE compatible phones that have their grandfathered features still; and we kept chatting and eventually she "found" the right codes to use. Won't actually know until the next bill comes in... but it was a pain in the ass.
They did this to me too. The guy at the ATT store said the 3gb plan will only be on there for about 4 hours then it will get changed over.
Not sure why this phone has an issue with this...

As a side note, I've had the note 2 since about 5 local time, and I logged into my att and it shows unlimited for me.
I got mine at a corporate store..
This is so weird you guys mentioning this. I have switched my grandfathered plan so many times. From iPhone 4S to iPhone 5 to Android back to iPhone 5 lol.
There is NO reason you can't keep it.
Hi all, sorry if this has been covered. My wife recently upgraded to the Verizon HTC One, my contract isn't up till Feb '2014 on my razr but I was so impressed with the one and because I'm basically a 49 year old child I couldn't stand not having it, not having the cash to buy it out right I thought about using the edge program but I'm not eligible till my contract is up so I called Verizon to beg for an early upgrade,no go but the rep said I could add a line and when I activate my new phone switch it with an old flip phone I had before I had a smart phone, so on paper it looks like I added a smartphone for 40 bucks a month but I swapped that one for my razr, added the flip phone and it only costs me 10 bucks a month, to clarify the phone number on my razr is now on my one and the new number is on the old flip phone! I still thought my plan would go to the share plan where my wife and I would share 4 gigs but I just looked at my bill she's on a 2 Gig plan and I'm still on unlimited, I'm not sure if Verizon just messed up or if it didn't change because I added a line instead of upgrading from the razr. If nothing else this is a way to get the one before your contract is up without paying full price upfront with the added bonus of possibly keeping unlimited data!

yup. its a workaround. since you never altered the status of your unlimited account/line - nothing happens. its essentially the same thing as buying a phone outright and activating it on your unlimited line.

There's the side effect of extending the contract on your unlimited line by 2 years, which can be a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it.
I'm amazed that it was the Verizon rep that suggested the work around! I really like the one and am glad I got it, all I've done to it is used rumrunners s -off and installed adaway and of course titanium backup to freeze bloat ,battery is good for such a powerful device

Yeah its bc (from what I've read) vzw reps get commission for phones sold, whether it's through upgrades, new lines, whatever. So it's in their interest.
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
I never worked for Verizon, but with AT&T, that's what we would call a cross upgrade, technically. You should still be eligible for an upgrade on that old line too since you just added a line in order to get the One.
From what I'm told, Verizon reps' commission comes solely from selling devices, not so much from selling plans. However with AT&T, you get paid for anything you do, whether you're upgrading their device or upgrading their plan. A lot of AT&T reps will stress going to their Mobile Share plan because they get paid a ton for those plans. You'll also never run into an AT&T rep who will willingly sell you an iDevice either since in some cases you can potentially LOSE money.
This is all from an authorized retailer experience, of course. I'm not sure if corporate is the same way.

I just upgraded yesterday using similar method. Costco had HTC One with bonus travel bundle for $79 so I went to the kiosk and told the rep what I wanted to do, he was more than willing to help, although he said he couldn't do the switch between lines, he gave me 2 extra sim cards (one small and one big one) so I could do the switch myself. I needed two sim cards because I was switching from the Rezound to One and sim cards are different sizes so after initial activation of the One on tiered line I had to deactivate big sim card from my unlimited line (rezound), activate new small sim card and put it in the One, then do the opposite with my tiered line, deactivate small sim card (One) and activate big one to be used in the Rezound. So if you're planning to do the transfer, make sure you ask for additional sim cards. I did transfer online without any problems. I also asked the rep if he could transfer upgrades from my other lines and do the same and he said yes. I have 3 lines two unlimited one tiered all eligible for upgrade so I'm probably going in on Friday to upgrade another line

Geez, what SIM card did the Rezound use? Because the HTC One is the MicroSIM which was the standard for a bunch of years. I know some of the newest phones are now using the smaller NanoSIM. Luckily for me my Razr already used the MicroSIM so after I did the upgrade I just deactivated that new SIM, activated her old phone again (iPhone with no SIM) and put my SIM into the new HTC One. I did not use the upgrade transfer feature this time, because my sisters line was due for an upgrade anyway and was already on tiered data anyway. But if she wants a new phone I'll have to transfer my upgrade to her line to save my unlimited.

yeah I didn't use upgrade transfer either but I saw that option online and also costco rep told me he could do it too.
I had the original LTE sim card that came with my thunderbolt I used it with my rezound. it was just a little bigger than htc one sim.
This is exactly what I did, add a line to get my one, then switch the One to my main number and threw an old lg8100 flip phone on the new line so it only costs me $10 a month to keep my unlimited data. Being someone who streams a lot of movies on xbmc, so this was important
i spoke to a best but rep yesterday about doing this very same option and he said any time a device was added that wasnt the same as what you had before, as in replacing your current device, the system would automatically upgrade your account and you lose unlimited. i dont see how that is true tho because if i buy a phone off contract and just replace my current sim in it my plan wouldnt change. i thought about going this route so i could get the blue htc one, which for some reason blows the other colors away imo, but its really not worth it if im stuck paying 240 for an additional line for 2 years and the upgrade price is 199 currrently. i could buy one on ebay for less than that total and not have to deal with 2 lines it seems.

that best buy rep was wrong lol
you just have to make sure they don't touch your unlimited line and upgrade your tiered line. if best buy can't do it, go somewhere else. I tried walmart first and at the end of the process it showed a message that I would lose unlimited data so I just told him to cancel the order and I went to costco where it worked.
I paid $80 for my phone at costco, I'm not sure if blue color is worth additional $120. also my wife uses her tiered line so I'm not paying extra for unused line that's why it made sense to go this rout for me but everyone's situation is different
Agreed that sales rep was wrong. Any verizon store can do this. Even if you call verizon and ask, they will say that this can be done or your other option is just buy the device outright and you can even switch it over and activate it yourself and nothing will change.
I'm on a family plan with one unlimited data phone, one that has the 4 gig for the price of 2 special from a while back and one no data phone. I know the plan with the 4 gig data phone has an upgrade so is it possible to get the phone on that plan and keep that 4 gig phone plan and just do the sim card swap to the unlimited one? Honestly the person on the 4 gig line doesn't care about upgrades or data so I figured if they could keep that 4gig plan I could take the phone and they could keep their phone.

If all of the lines are on the same family account, you could upgrade the 4gb line. When you received the new phone just call VZW customer service and activate it on the unlimited line. OR, activate on the 4gb line then swap the sim card. Both methods are good.
One more question. I couldn't find anything about this online, but since it was a 4 gig for 2 gig special those years ago, will they be able to keep those 4 gigs or would they be forced to a 2 gig line?

Your unlimited and 4 gb lines are permanent. There will be nothing change to your account if you do what I shown you above.
I did the same thing. Upgraded 6gb data on my family plan then just simply swap sim. Now my UDP number is on note 4
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
So would my steps be correct?
1. Use upgrade on 4 gig data plan to get note 4.
2. the sim card that comes with the galaxy note 4 holds the 4 gig data line so that goes into the current 4 gig data phone?
3. i just put my current sim card from my unlimited phone to the new note 4 before even putting the battery in and it activates? (as i've read from other people around here)
so is this good or am i missing something?
I'm thinking about buying it today so i just want to be sure.
Yeah pretty much. This is what I did in best buy last Friday
- upgrade the 6gb line to note 4
- take my UDP sim card and put it in note 4 even before it was powered
-put the new sim card (tied to 6gb now) into my old note 2
-now note 4 has a UDP and note 2 has a 6gb plan
It doesn't hurt also to tell the customer service guy what you intend to do. Most cases they'll be willing to confirm the method and help you out (based on my experience at least)

Hey thanks man I appreciate it. Will do.
Baaaaah. I knew this was possible, however, while in the store they told me it wasn't. They said there was nothing they could do to the phone with the UDP because of the minutes associated with it, so that my bill would be up higher some ridiculous amount because I'd be forced to keep the old talk minutes from the family share.

Nope even more simpler, you don't need step 2. At the end you have a brand new SIM from the Note4 as spare. You don't need to touch your 4gb data line phone. When you received the new phone, just take the old sim from unlimited line and put into the note4.
Ok that makes me feel much better. One last question.
Since my phone is a bionic I have a mini sim and the note 4 has a micro. Could I actually have verizon transfer the plan from my mini to the micro that came with the note 4 or would I need a whole new micro sim card?

Nope, not a problem if you don't have the same sim. When you received the new note4, power off the bionic, then call Verizon customer service and ask them you want to activate your note4 on your unlimited line. That's it.
If that's the case then this'll be much more easy than i thought assuming the verizon guy is willing to cooperate.

Again, this is a normal procedure for the Verizon reps to activate your phone, nothing out of the norm. They will gladly do it without any issue. I have done this many times. Just tell them you received the phone for your line, but your wife loves the new phone, so you want to activate on the her line.
Will do. Thanks buddy.
I just did this same exact thing yesterday. A line on my family plan has a basic 3g phone with no data plan. I upgraded that, then did the whole switch on the internet when i got home from the internet. I got to even use the same sim that came with the note 4 on my account. I called verizon to put a data block on the 3g phone and also asked them if they still saw unlimited on my line. She was acting fishy and said she didn't see it, then i said that i saw it on my side and i've done this alternate upgrade twice in the past and if i lost my UDP, id return the phone tomorrow and switch to T-Mobile she then recommended the shared data plan and i told her no, i would go to verizon and return the phone and go to T-Mobile. Literally 5 seconds later she tells me "Ooooo i found it, you actually do still have unlimited. How great!".. I knew she was trying to play it off. But here I am downloading at 6MB/S at my home location .

So just to be 1000 percent sure on my behalf the transfer upgrade from basic line and switch back to basic plan after getting your new phone still works? I was just too much of a wuss to try it ,read a few horror stories on how vzw came back weeks later n took the unlimited away or forced the basic line to keep a data plan. If so I'll be doing this for my girl as she's jealous of my n4 or i may do this when the nexus. 6 drops. Any feedback from someone who did this with within the last month would be much appreciated

If worse comes to worst, you can order the phone on a basic line from a Verizon store. Come home and immediately call Verizon and tell them that you want to do an alternate upgrade and but the basic phone back on the basic line and that you want to put the new Note on the UDP line. If they feed you the BS "we can't do that," thank them for their help and call another rep.... Although I've never had this issue... Ever! But let's say that start making the switch and tell you "the system isn't letting me make the switch without removing your unlimited," you can tell to leave the account how it is and that you'll be returning the note 4 the next morning.. There's only a $35 restocking fee but I literally did this whole process last night at 9 pm and it worked perfectly. The other plan reverts to a basic plan, you stay with the UDP, and end of story. I haven't heard about unlimited being taken away but there's competition on that you can threaten to leave to t-mobile if they try that in the future. Also one last measure which I think does work. If let's say, they do take away your UDP, I think you can return the phone and ask customer service to revert the line as it was before. I've heard mixed stories about this that it works for some and not for others. But ultimately, be honest and tell them you're doing the unlimited data plan loophole and you know it works because you have a few buddies that have done it successfully. They are willing to work with you.
Sorry for the long message! Hope this clears things up .
Alright tried unsuccessfully in one store but the reps are typically dicks there so no surprise I'm gonna try another nearby store and like you said worst case scenario If they come after my udp I'll just return the phone and get it back
So I decided to to return my S7 and stick with my S6. That's another discussion...
Originally I I used the BB method and upgraded my 2 lines to the S6 and S6 Edge on Oct 23 to beat the Nov 15 deadline before unlimited data price increase. Got the phones shipped to me. Immediately threw away the sim cards that came in them and installed my old sim card. It used to be new activations were tied to the sim card not IMEI. Well that's changed. Sometime after the 15, Verizon closed that loophole and started doing it via IMEI. Anyway, when I put the sim card back into my S6, it went through activation again and it flagged the imei and switched me to 2GB. I wasn't expecting it to activate again so it caught me off guard. Now I've loss unlimited, and I'm 7GB overage on my data plan. I've been fighting with them all day trying to get it changed back because it was fine before but now it switched. My receipt from BB clearly shows keep existing plan. It did not force me to switch due to upgrade. The last person I spoke with said she will try to get my udp re-instated but it had to go through some "off-line group". I'm waiting for a response. One this is for certain. If they don't get me switched back, eff you verizon, I'll be switching to ATT. There is no reason for me to stay with you if I don't have udp anymore. That's the only reason I stuck around.
One thing I'd like to add is I'm not an abuser of data. At most I use 15gb a month. Sometimes I use only 2 to 3GB. I just like the fact of not having to worry if I'm going to go over. That and the fact I refuse to pay more to get less!
I did the exact same thing. I have few theories as well but maybe you and I can figure out together to beat the system.
We have 2 lines as well and use about 18gb each more or less. Just streaming audio most of the day while at work.
But theory was my phone was shipped from a best buy store instead of a warehouse like normal.
I would keep on Verizon to make sure they give you it back, I have mine back but when I fought them on returning my UDP they didn't put the work order in like they said. So just call back every day or every other day.
I will try again to upgrade and activate the phone on my line that is not up for upgrade and then switch it back. But white trying this I am thinking about bypassing the whole phone activation part. Far as skipping the setup where you just can play around with phone and OS then pop the old sim in? Just a theory though.

I've been working with a single person over there and she is supposed to have me switched back to udp by Monday. I have it all in writing through email. Plus my receipt from the original S6 purchase from BB clearly states keep "existing plan". So, it's not a matter of trying to beat the system. It's a matter of a mistake on their side. It's sort of like when they advertise the price wrong in store, unless they put out a correction, they sell it to you at the price they originally listed. Anyway, come Monday, if it's not fixed, I'm switching. Nothing ties you to the carrier anymore since all of them pay your ETFs to switch. And the whole Verizon has the best network thing, that's debatable. I have my boys on T-mo and other family on ATT. I've been in instances where I had weak or no service but they had service. I'm not going to argue though that rural areas, Verizon by far kicks everyone's ass. But then again, it's pretty slow in rural areas and how often do I go into rural areas anymore.
I did the same thing to FOUR line. The one line was not delivered until after Nov 15 ad as soon as I activated the phone UDP was lost. I immediately returned the phone to BB and called Verizon and requested a inactive pricing requests (IPR). The particular phone line was 27GB over, LOL. After a few days UDP was back on the line, I was feeling better. I then was the first person to discover from the BB buying group to find that the 3 remaining lines had a PENDING UPGRADE. Not sure what to do and if I should keep the other 3 phones and hope for the best or take back and pay the extra $20 per month per line. Not wanting to loose UDP I returned the phones. It seems now that PU have been dropping off. But keeping those BB phones n your line it RISKY. Best bet is to sell them! 1 person claimed to have lost UDP after phone upgraded. Not happy paying the extra $20 but better than being stuck with $2GB in a 2year contract!

That's the thing. I did this on October 23rd. All was fine. That is until I got my S7. S7 was fine too. But I decided to go back to my S6. Once I put the sim card back in the S6, it reactivated again and flagged it and switched to 2GB. Anyway, I hope it all gets straightened. At least I have in writing that I won't be charged for the overages. We'll see. I've just had crappy luck with Verizon lately. Went through 2 months of back and forth with Verizon FiOS to get my bill straightened out because my connection was ll messed up.
Pretty sure the only way to ensure the account doesn't get borked is to activate the phone on someone elses plan. Dunno if you can ever use the phone on your plan due to IMEI.
I suggest upgrading to the phone you can get the most money for, sell it, and buy what you want.
If you do the Best buy method you can never put your SIM in the phone that was upgraded on your number. Thats why I ordered a IP6 for the wife under my number and she ordered a S7 edge under her number. She does not care of android and I don't like IOS so it works out great. I will never put my SIM in her phone and vice versa or it will revert to a 2gb plan. If you don't have the option to not use your sim in the phone you ordered then you should trade someone phone for phone or sell it and buy the one you want so you won't have an issue. Not saying it is a guarantee though but we have been fine so far.

I will attempt from another retailer. But not for another couple of weeks.
Well I'm not entirely sure what you guys did, but I just updated my phone in store at costco by switching my upgrade over to another line on my plan (if you're solo you'll never get this to work). Buying/upgrading through that line. The person should completely activate the phone on the non udp line, then switch the device back to the non udp's actual phone and sim. Sim's no longer fry by doing this. Once the phone has beeen activated and switched back you can pop your old sim into the new device and everything should be golden. The costco lady didn't believe me but I'm flying high with my udp on my s7 edge

So I have 2 lines that have UDP. My wife's line has an upgrade available.
So if I transfer the upgrade to my line and and the activate it on her line I should be able to keep my unlimited on both lines?

If you only have the two lines that won't work. The upgraded line needs a new two year contract and UDP isn't available anymore so one of the lines would lose the data plan.

Whatever line you use the upgrade on HAS to renew their contract. So your wife's line cannot use the upgrade (unless paying via edge payments i.e. 800$ per phone, but don't quote me on that). You CAN use someone on another plan's upgrade and use their phone after they switch back phone's but then they'd lose their upgrade and be unable to use yours.

I actually want to renew my 2 year deal because I would rather pay $200 or cheaper then pay the full retail price. I have done this twice before on each of our lines and was able to keep unlimited data by renewing 2 year deals.
Now the only thing is using the upgrade since I have unlimited data and have not yet been charged the extra $20 fee for unlimited data on either line yet. So my plan is to use her upgrade and then use it on my line to activate it or atleast bypass the activation setup and see if my unlimited data stays in tact. If it stays in tact then I will try to put it back on her line to see if stays in tact.
OR
I use somebody else's upgrade which will be just fine cause it's like adding another phone to the line. But when I use my upgrade for the person that gave me their upgrade, now does by activating the phone screw my unlimited data up? That is the biggest question? So I'll I am doing is swapping upgrades. I person upgrades there line but gives the phone to me and I would upgrade my line and give the phone to them. But when I upgrade my line and they take the phone to there separate account, will it take my unlimited data away?
That's the big question. But I will find out when I upgrade her line and have a friend activate it on her line that is a separate account and see what happens.
Update: I tried upgrading from the costco service and after litterally 4.5 days waiting to get it shipped or some kind of info after they charged me, I finally got another email saying that I had to agree to have my current phone be disconnected in order for the phone to be shipped. So they wanted to activate it like in store before shipping it to me. So I declined and canceled the order.
I already had pre ordered the S7 through best buy originally, but not sure if this happened in the fine print I did not read. But my wife's line never was disconnected at all before the S7 showed up. My UDP was just kicked off when I tried activating it.
Update #2
I reordered the S7 from best buy and again it shipped from store, not sure if there is any activating on there side or not.
But I bypassed the the activation setup to where you can just use the phone as a wifi device. Then I put a friends sim in the phone from an entirely different account and was able to make calls and nothing happened to my account far as any changes, but when I went to put my wifes sim in the phone, it recognized the sim and # but could not make any calls without activating it on her line.
So I then factory reset the S7 and tried activating with my friends account from bootup and when the phone activated, my account had changed, but here is what happened, It dropped my wifes phone like there was no device on her line and changed my data to 2gb. I tried to put my wifes sim in and still would not take it without activating it on her line. So I put my wifes sim back in her old phone and had to call verizon to get it back up and running and everything went back to normal even got UDP back with no hassle, cause the S7 was never activated on her line. SO...
It technically is doable, but the theory of just upgrading and selling it for retail price will still screw you over because the person that activates it will screw your line up unless they bypass the activation screen and who would take that chance.
SO what you need to do is just bypass the activation screen to where it's just wifi device then pop another users sim and your line will not change, I would recommend doing this only on your account and just swap upgrades.

FYI they're starting phase 2 with the udp and will be increasing it regardless.
