After updating from 4.3 to any 4.4 Rom, my gps will not lock. I am running stock, rooted samsung software.
After a wipe and flash and factory reset, no GPS. This is before root.
Any ideas guys?
Update: downloaded CSC Changer app from play store and it fixed the GPS.
WARNING: IT WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE.
Thanks to PonchoPlanet and drexvil for their guidence

Ive tried different modems. tightening screws. different OEM roms. GPSfix apps.
all nothing. cant lock even 1 satellite.
bout to throw this phone away.
Try a new gps.config file, if you're on latest /proper modem and running stock and it comes on but won't lock or see satellites, then replacing your gps.config file may fix it.
Go to this link and select the proper file for your area, territory or country and download, then copy and save your original gps.config, save somewhere, delete original gps.config from system folder, copy and paste new one into system folder, reboot.

Did a search for the gps.conf file and the only one found is the one I downloaded???
Where should the old file be? Was it wiped out somehow? Shouldnt a fresh firmware update replace the missing file?
Edit: found it but cannot write to folder despite properties being set to writable???
Edit 2: using es file explorer, had to turn on "root explorer" in tools.
Sadly no change. Had my nexus 7 next to it and that saw 6 satellites

To bad it didn't work for you. Since it turns on I would say its not hardware , you could have a conflict with a app.
Pp. ???
I had a similar problem and this worked for me:

Csc changer did nothing.not even wipe phone. I must be doing it wrong?
Edit: you were on the right track!!!!
I downloaded a different CSC Changer from the play store and it worked!!!!
Selected my carrier code, it wiped my phone and when I set up, the gps worked beautifully!

I think my phone is infected with a virus. It started today when I tried to install the game Ragnorok Online, I downloaded the apk off of there website and installed it. Once installed there was no icon for the app, nothing. Later I restarted my phone and when someone was phoning me, my phone would vibrate but there was no ring tone. I tried to select a ring tone in settings and the only option was silent (see screenshot taken later). All sounds, music, and pictures disappeared from my phone, but would show up fine using solid explorer to find them. But the phone doesn't detect any of the media files and nothing unusual showed up in solid explorer, all the files were there, but the phone wasn't detecting them. Then I explored my phone with root explorer and I noticed every single folder contains a file called nomedia (see screen shots). After some research I found that this prevents the os from detecting media files, and every single folder had that file in it. So I deleted some of the nomedia files and then restarted. They all came back on restart. So I flashed a completely different rom, Paranoid Android Rom, factory resetting and formatting system, and on first boot, everything was fine. Rebooted a second time and now again every single folder contains the nomedia files. Please help. How can I get rid of this. Thanks for your help.

Did you try air push detector?
Kinda odd but but ads at the top remind me of a spyware app
Maybe worth a shot
If not you should Odin back to stock

Did you update ROM Manager recently? Yesterday's release had a bug which caused this. Uninstall ROM Manager and reboot a few times and see if this clears things up.
A new release is out, as well.
I did both of your suggestions. Flashed stock with Odin and I actually never installed Rom manager this time and its all good now. Thanks for your help. I was shocked that the nomedia files persisted even when flashing a new Rom via recovery.

I haven't used snote for awhile, today when I open the app or extended from Mini note when pulling Spen, The App keeps crashing. I tried many things: reboot, clear data, reset permissions in CWM, none of them works. Any other ideas?

Did you change anything in your CSC files? To be specific, the /system/VODB/ folder. I had that issue while porting N7105 ROMs the first time to the T889V.
Check logcat/ddms for other possible clues.
Good luck,
Darkshado

i added more hidden feature in other.xml (in CSC) but not inside VODB folder. I tried to restore system files from an earlier CWM backup (when Snote works) but no LUCK. Hmmm not sure what causes. I hate to re install everything just for Snote, I may install alternative Note app then. Grrrrr
Can anyone extract Snote app so i can try to side load it?
Thanks
The files you added probably made it crash. If you install a clean wiped rom, it shouldn't have any more crashes.
So I recently rooted my Note 2 anddddd a few days after playing around with it (without a backup...i know...dumb me.) I am missing the settings apk so, in turn, I can't access my settings. Any one know how I can fix?
Thanks!

Backup your data, full wipe, reflash a stock rom. Unless someone can get you a stock titaniumbackup for the apk (which I dont even know is possible) you are out of luck I believe.
Another thing to check is to open up a stock rom's system/app folder on your computer and find the settings apk, maybe you can copy and past it into your directory with a file manager (es file manager if you need one). I've got nothing better to do right now so I will try it.
Edit: Too many settings apks. You've got to find the missing one
The second options should do it...
Thanks guys. Went with the first option. My next root run will come with many backups. Thanks!

Many others besides myself seem to have an issue where adfree/adaway don't seem to work.
I tried manually replacing my hosts file in /etc with esfile (root explorer enabled and system mounted R/W). However after rebooting, my hosts file seems to have changed back to the default one.
The steps I took:
- Pasted edited hosts file into /system/etc/. (I'm rooted so no errors so far)
- Changed permissions to rw-r-r
- Reboot
And after the reboot the my larger hosts file seems to have been replaced with some default one.
I'm currently using MyRom, but I've tired checking any setting that would interfere with this. I've also tried a fresh install of MyRom and this still happens. I think other people may have similar problems with adfree/adaway because of a similar issue. I'm thinking about reverting to stock and trying it again?

Not that I know of. I tried doing this on a fresh rom install too, with no adfree programs installed.

I'll email the dev and see how the app is handling the host file. There is a known issue with some apps overwriting itself on reboot with (what i call) last known data.
Thanks for bringing this up.
* WHAT SPECIFIC APP ARE YOU USING (IE. ADAWAY)
I used adaway on official stock. Never had this issue with hosts reverting on reboot . It was however a pain to install, it fails and freezes multiple times before it works when ever I tried to update or revert the file.

Did somebody find a solution to this problem?? :crying::crying:
This does not answer your question directly, it gives you an alternative solution.
I use Adfree (for several years) by BigTinCan.com, it is easy to use and set up. I have never experienced a problem with it. Reboots work fine.

Seems strange that your host file would be changing if you never added a host adjusting app. Unless the ROM you are using includes it by default...
When I first started using AdAway on my GN3 it had problems.... It would start to update, stall, etc.... After a while however after an update or two, it worked itself out. Now I rarely think about it and manually updating it is very easy.
Hey gus,
today my Camera suddenly stopped working properly. When i try to use dual mode or start taking a video, the app suddenly crashes.
I already tried a factory reset. After that I could not even find the app installed, it disappeared. When I reinstalled it (backuped the apk before reset) I got the same issue: dual mode and videos not working. The phone was rooted and I used the camera mod that sets the 1080p framerate to to 60 fps, but the camera worked properly until today. In addition to that the media profiles xml should be original again since I did a factory reset, so this should not be the problem.
Anyone pls help me.
Maybe someone can upload his/her camera files so I can try installing another apk? Its possible I got a damaged apk or so..
When you change something in protected area i.e. system you change it for good. No matter how many factory resets you do it would stay the same. Applying camera mod involved modifying mediaprofile.xml that is in system/etc folder. Only way to fix it would be to grab the stock mediaprofile.xml and put it back in the system/etc folder.

I guess I'm not the only one having issue with the camera mods. I changed framerate to 1080p60, but got worse results and the phone got stuck on the boot screen. Had to use the flashtool to go back to stock. If your phone boots, restore the xml as previously mentioned. Im curious, which version of the G3 do you have?
Thanks for your answers
@enaybee: could you please upload your original file? I just dud a backup of the apk, forgot the media profiles.
@garykl: Got the german 16 GB version from 1&1

Here you go media profile xml
Thanks man, now I just need to reinstall it as a system app, can you explain what i have to do? I put it in the priv-apps folder and etc folder, rebooted, but nothing happened
Just grab the mediaprofile.xml and place it inside /system/etc directory with the help of any file explorer that gives you access to system folder (requires root) like root explorer or es explorer. Make sure stock file replaces the modified file. Reboot and that should take care of the issue if it was only caused by the mod.

I already did this with es explorer, set the permissions to rw r r and rebooted, all files are in the right folders.
Still no camera app
Maybe it doesnt work because we got different phone versions?
I checked the model number and it says D-855
Edit:I dont know why, but suddenly the app appeared in my drawer. Problem solved, thanks alot for your help [emoji106]
