SNOTE keeps crashing. Help to fix? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I haven't used snote for awhile, today when I open the app or extended from Mini note when pulling Spen, The App keeps crashing. I tried many things: reboot, clear data, reset permissions in CWM, none of them works. Any other ideas?

Did you change anything in your CSC files? To be specific, the /system/VODB/ folder. I had that issue while porting N7105 ROMs the first time to the T889V.
Check logcat/ddms for other possible clues.
Good luck,
Darkshado

i added more hidden feature in other.xml (in CSC) but not inside VODB folder. I tried to restore system files from an earlier CWM backup (when Snote works) but no LUCK. Hmmm not sure what causes. I hate to re install everything just for Snote, I may install alternative Note app then. Grrrrr
Can anyone extract Snote app so i can try to side load it?
Thanks

The files you added probably made it crash. If you install a clean wiped rom, it shouldn't have any more crashes.

[Q] stock settings apk missing

So I recently rooted my Note 2 anddddd a few days after playing around with it (without a backup...i know...dumb me.) I am missing the settings apk so, in turn, I can't access my settings. Any one know how I can fix?
Thanks!

Backup your data, full wipe, reflash a stock rom. Unless someone can get you a stock titaniumbackup for the apk (which I dont even know is possible) you are out of luck I believe.
Another thing to check is to open up a stock rom's system/app folder on your computer and find the settings apk, maybe you can copy and past it into your directory with a file manager (es file manager if you need one). I've got nothing better to do right now so I will try it.
Edit: Too many settings apks. You've got to find the missing one
The second options should do it...
Thanks guys. Went with the first option. My next root run will come with many backups. Thanks!

Remove Bloatware from T-Mobile Note 2

I searched many various sites including this one to try and find the best and safest way to uninstall bloatware. I tried Titanium Pro and when I tried to Backup/Restore and selected an app to delete it then rebooted my Note 2. I looked back into B/R and found the item was still there. There was a message indicating that it may take 2 or 3 reboots to complete the uninstall.
I am looking for an app that will run and unistall all bloatware that is safe to use or gives you the option to select apps to unistall. I did download one which looked very good and even listed the apps it would uninstall. It was SuperNote2 DeBloatware which was a zip file. It would not unzip and I could not get it to unzip after numerous downloads.
Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I didn't post that. Yes, it is rooted. I did that a coupple of days ago using Kingo Android Root. Very quick (less than 3 minutes) and simple.
Thanks for your reply and help.

I did find that posting yesterday and downloaded mrRobinson_Note_II_De_Bloater.v1.00.zip to my PC. When I unzipped this file I saw folders:
apps
assets
meta-inf
These folders dated back to 2/28/2008. So, I was very unsure to use this.
When I opened:
apps it contained: GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
Assets contained; common, fonts, icons, langs and themes.
Meta-inf contained: Com, Cert, Cert and manifest.
This just did not look right for what this was suppose to do. So, I left it.
Your opinion?

You are using a custom recovery, aren't you? CWM or TWRP ... Just follow the instructions in the 1st post. Boot into recovery and select that file and click custom and either run the program or just look through the files that you can remove and exit if you don't want to use the program.
Or, you could just install a custom ROM and not have to worry about this?

That thread is quite old and if you noticed, somewhat inactive with some issues reported. I always use Titanium Backup to "freeze" apps - this usually removes them from being active (and thus saving CPU and battery) but they still remain should you want them. It's a simple and painless process as you are not really deleting them and they do not use much memory anyway.
Here's a great list for the Samsung Galaxy line of devices from Android Forums: http://androidforums.com/metropcs-cdma-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/695070-safe-apps-remove.html

I honestly suggest using a custom rom instead... there are lists out there of apps to remove but it is more based on whats safe to remove vs not safe... ultimately its all user dependant (ie what apps do you use vs what someone else uses)... for me, I love to just install either CM (as reliable and "bare" as any of the roms come) or Jedi roms via aroma (if you still want to hang on to the TouchWiz side of things)... Aroma installs allow you to choose the bloatware you want to have and disregard the ones you dont want... there are tons of tutorials online that take you step by step... make sure you follow the directions (completely) and happy flashing!!

Dont know if you are still in need of help trying to figure out how to flash roms but, you would first need to install a custom recovery. The two major recoveries are TWRP and CWM. They're on par. I used CWM for years but switched to TWRP. From there you first want to make a backup of your original rom and flash as many roms you want to try out. If you dont like the rom, just restore. I dont know how familiar you are with flashing roms but it takes like one try and you pretty much do the same thing over and over.

MTP USB Device?
I thought I was doing great after uninstalling bloatware. However, when I tried to connect my Note 2 to my PC via USB I received the error that MTP USB Device driver could not be loaded. Apparently I must have uninstalled something on my Note 2 that is not allowing me to connect to the PC via USB. I have been searching all day, downloading various Driver apps to no avail. I even downloaded and installed Samsung Drivers which also did not work.
It never ends. Fix one thing and then another pops up. LOL
What else can I say except - H-E-L-P.
I still can use my USB plug from NOTE 2 to my Flash Drive to get stuff transfered to/from Note2/PC.

can you reflash? I hope so! There is sitll a way to reflash from sd card thought and install stock f/w or if you could remember or figure out which apk is responsible for that function. ...
That latter option is why I started this

ps this is why its so important to make a backup in twrp or cwm....google it or find it here! they also call it a nandroid backup...VERY IMPORTANT for issues like this. As previsouly stated you should be able to put the stock rom (check out sammobile's web page for official f.w) on the sd card and from there you can boot into recovery mode and install it from there. I believe. If that don't work look into mobile odin which I have never used. sorry for he typos lazy!

[Q] Unfortunately Samsung Keyboard has stopped

I got the message from AT&T to update my Galaxy Note II to 4.4.2 I tried to do the update. But since I rooted, after it downloaded it wouldn't install correctly. After much trying, my phone would not boot up. Would always fail. What I then did was downloaded 4.4.2 from here. I used Odin to install it and everything is fine. I have rooted again and everything works except the Samsung Keyboard (which I happen to like since it lets me use the SPen to do things).
Is there anyway to get the app and reinstall it?
Thanks.
-- Charley
Well, I went to my wife's phone which was not rooted and for which the update to 4.4.2 from AT&T worked just fine. Her Samsung Keyboard works. So I used the application APK Extractor to extract her Samsung Keyboard APK. Then on my phone I tried to install it. After it went through all the screens showing me what it would do I touched "install". But after it tried, it came up with "X App not installed".
I uninstalled the old Samsung Keyboard app (since it didn't work anyway) using Titanium Backup. It gave me a bunch of warnings but I said to go ahead. Then I tried installed the Samsung Keyboard again but no matter what I did I get "X App not installed".
Anyone have any ideas?
I want this keyboard because it works properly with the S pen.

Do you have a custom recovery loaded?
Or download a file manager app that can mount the /system directory as read/write.
Like here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.clearvisions.explorer&hl=en
here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en
or here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&hl=en
(pretty sure this one does)
I use the second one. I have paid version......
After you have a file manager installed, copy the SamsungIME.apk you got from your wife's phone to /system/app.
Then change permissions on the file to rw r r
Thanks a lot. I will try that. Hopefully that will solve my problem. I was surprised that when I installed the 4.4.2 from the download here that the keyboard didn't work. The ROM I installed on my phone is http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../rom-att-i317-ucucne5-mj4-stock-odex-t2802189 (Odin version).

http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../rom-ds-ne5v1-i317-ucucne5-mj4-stock-t2803363
It's based on Zen's with some of the Samsung and ATT crap removed.
No I don't have a custom recovery. I kept the standard one so I could get AT&T updates. But once I rooted and did a couple of other things, that stopped working. It would download the updates but would fail during install. Even unrooting wouldn't fix it.
So I now I will go to a custom recovery. CWM? TWRP? Do you have a preference? It seems that TWRP seems to be the preferred one by most people.
I guess it is time to start playing with ROMs. Other than writing a couple of apps, I mostly use the phone just to surf the web, pick up email (and occasional phone calls, but not too many). I am one of those that has the grandfathered unlimited data plan although I don't really need it since I am mostly on WiFi.
AT&T signal is really good where I am. I usually get about 30 megabits down and 20 megabits via LTE at my house in Silicon Valley. The phone seems to be faster using LTE than WiFI even though my WiFi gets me (via my computer) about 55 megabits down and 15 up. I see you are also in California. Where?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Well, I installed the SamsungIME.apk in the /system/app folder. Rebooted. No keyboard. So I thought maybe I need to run the install of the Samsung keyboard app. I ran that but when it got to the point where it said installing, it came back again with "X App not installed".

M919V No GPS lock after NE1 update (4.4.2) SOLVED!

After updating from 4.3 to any 4.4 Rom, my gps will not lock. I am running stock, rooted samsung software.
After a wipe and flash and factory reset, no GPS. This is before root.
Any ideas guys?
Update: downloaded CSC Changer app from play store and it fixed the GPS.
WARNING: IT WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE.
Thanks to PonchoPlanet and drexvil for their guidence

Ive tried different modems. tightening screws. different OEM roms. GPSfix apps.
all nothing. cant lock even 1 satellite.
bout to throw this phone away.
Try a new gps.config file, if you're on latest /proper modem and running stock and it comes on but won't lock or see satellites, then replacing your gps.config file may fix it.
Go to this link and select the proper file for your area, territory or country and download, then copy and save your original gps.config, save somewhere, delete original gps.config from system folder, copy and paste new one into system folder, reboot.

Did a search for the gps.conf file and the only one found is the one I downloaded???
Where should the old file be? Was it wiped out somehow? Shouldnt a fresh firmware update replace the missing file?
Edit: found it but cannot write to folder despite properties being set to writable???
Edit 2: using es file explorer, had to turn on "root explorer" in tools.
Sadly no change. Had my nexus 7 next to it and that saw 6 satellites

To bad it didn't work for you. Since it turns on I would say its not hardware , you could have a conflict with a app.

I had a similar problem and this worked for me:

Csc changer did nothing.not even wipe phone. I must be doing it wrong?
Edit: you were on the right track!!!!

Selected my carrier code, it wiped my phone and when I set up, the gps worked beautifully!

ANK4 Stock Deodex Debloat

Stock ANK4 T-Mobile ROM deodexed by jovy23 and debloated by myself. Really nothing else to say about it. Check out jovy23's thread for what he's done.

It's been a long time , and seems like u changed carriers also ? Good to see your work again.
Cool
My Mobile Hotspot force closes upon enabling it. Can anyone confirm? Other than that, smooth like butter.
Can confirm. Hot spot FCs on trying to activate. Must've removed something necessary for it. Otherwise I love how light this rom is.
EDIT: I have jovy23's original rom on my phone. If anyone has any idea what app I'd have to reinstall to get the hotspot working again I'll grab it from there, put it into system/priv-app, change the permissions, and reboot to see if it works.

EDIT: Does S-Health work for you guys? Also I think that if were keeping S-Health we should also keep Samsung Galaxy Apps since it's the only way to update it.
I really like this rom. Two things though. Can anyone tell me what files I need to restore to get the Samsung Browser working and the Smart Select for the S-Pen? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: So I figured out the Smart Select but I still need to restore the samsung browser.
EDIT 2: I figured out the browser as well.
Also, is there anyway to get the Samsung Account integrated? I would like to download the extra camera filters. I realize that this is a debloated ROM, but if anyone has a link to re-install some of Sammy's apps, that would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Found a zip file. =)

I restored the files myself. I used good old fashioned google searching to figure out which files needed to be restored. But I'm glad the rom was built without them. I prefer how slim the rom is and what I wanted may not be what others wanted or needed.

I noticed that the dev of this rom also removed the libs along with the apps. You may need to find out if there're some missing lib files to s-health. At least that was the case when I added back the sbrowser.
How to re-enable smart select, the galaxy app store, tethering, and Samsung account.
This is how I got everything working. For smart select you grab Pinboard.apk from another rom (I grabbed everything from jovy23's original stock deodexed rom), place it in system/priv-app and change it's permissions to match the other apks there. I used ES file explorer for this with root explorer on and changing the system option to R/W (Tap on root explorer after turning it on to change this option). For the galaxy app store grab GalaxyApps_3xh.apk place it in the system/priv-app folder and change its permissions like before. Theres also a apk called SamsungAppsWidget_BannerStyle_common.apk which goes in system/app but I'm unsure if it's neccesary. If you are adding it just remember to change its permissions. For mobile Hotspot grab TetheringAutomation.apk and TetheringProvision.apk place them in system/app and change permissions. For the Samsung Account grab Samsungservice2_xxhdpi_RTL.apk place it in system/priv-app and change permissions. You are able to log in to the galaxy app store without this but it is necessary to get full access to your samsung accounts synching capabilities, like with s-health for example. Let me know if you need help with anything.
EDIT: Reboot after you've done everything!

Thanks man
