I think it will be the same as I can't see Google reverting any SD card related changes. They've not included sd card slots since the nexus one and pushing people to use their cloud services for storing stuff. The changes were made for security purposes, ie apps can only access 'their' folders files on the external sd card. Google are implementing more and more security features like encryption as standard, to enhance privacy and security and these are features that are more relevant than ever at the moment.

Thread closed,
There is an existing thread for everything to do with Android L.
Many thanks,

[Q] Can't write to external SD card

I have a brand new Tab S 8.4, received today. I discovered that I cannot write to or erase the external SD card with 1 exception. I can only perform operations on the external SD card if 1) I do it via MTP from my laptop or 2) using Samsung built-in apps For example, I can copy/rename/delete/etc. files using Samsung's My Files app and I can save pictures from the camera to the external SD card. Most downloaded apps (like cameras, document editors, browsers, etc.) will not save to the external SD card. To be clear, I can copy and move files FROM the external SD card using apps such as ES File Explorer.
I tried reformatting the SD card, even tried other SD cards, always the same result. Is there something wrong with my device or the stock firmware? The tab is pretty useless to me without ability to write to the SD card and I don't really like being limited to the stock apps. So, is this something I can fix, that Samsung can fix, or do I have a lemon?

OK, did that. All I learned is that I have to root the tab which I hadn't planned on doing. Grrrrrr. Luckily, I am technical enough to do it, but most buyers are not. IMO Samsung should be pushing back hard on Google about this. It involves tens of millions of their customers, plus those of all the other manufacturers as well. These devices ain't cheap, so if I spend my money on one, I want it to work as expected with stock software. There's no point in Google singing the glories of KK and beyond if the OS doesn't do what a normal userI needs it too. When LG did its OTA update to KK for the G Pad 8.3, it allowed writing to the external SD, proving it can be done from the device provider.
it just not with samsung... the problem are with kitkat. so every device that use kitkat will have the same problem. LG/MOTO/TC/whatever android device also got the same problem. except some play smart and include the edited platform.xml into their device.

At least via the Samsung-provided apps (camera, browser, file manager) it's possible to write to and erase from the external SD card. Still, it's a sad state of affairs this far into the Android game. And this business with tripping the knox counter when rooting really is annoying. I wonder what Apple offers these days ?

Changelog for 4.4.3

Hi could someone provide the changelog of android 4.4.3. I know there isnt mcuh change but one thing i want to know is has sony rectified move apps to external sd card? We were only able to move app data to internal sd in 4.4.2 but sony made a fake announcement saying apps could be moved to external sd.. any idea if this is fixed atleast in this update?
I have mostly of my applications in SD, but I'm not sure if this is the thing you're talking about.
But I 4.4.3 I can tell that the battery life is amazing again.
And...
Well that's it, if I notice something new I'll tell.

don't really can provide changelog
but from what I experience now we're able to move apps to External SD Card, but I don't know if it's a bug or not the apps that data you move to external SD card will jump out of folder on restart
which is pretty annoying for me
battery life as stated above is awesome though, and camera is a bit improved. to me it's nice for camera. but still need a bit of improvement maybe later it'll be updated
and a step closer to blacklist feature after we receive the 4.4.4 kitkat update who know when it'll roll

Internal memory extension

Hi!
I used whole 32GB of the memory. I know one can get SD card (which I own btw.).
But some apps like Marvel Future Fight etc. install only on internal memory for some reason.
So is there a card/device/rom whatever that can expand INTERNAL memory?
Find a way to make Marshmallow run on this device, and you'll have adaptive storage, which is exactly that - uses external SD as internal memory.

As You can see, my version is 5.0.2 and its the only working, improved version for this LG with all the audio/camera/addons extensions.
But thanks, tell me more about this adaptive storage, for a future ya know. How to turn it on?
I'm kind of a lazy guy, so please, don't follow my example and read this

@ShadySquirrel
I did find a topic of Yours discussing creation of andoir 6.0 but as far I know no one succeed so far right? I'm doomed with 5.0.2 and 32GB
Or are there any bumbers for back expanding the internal storage hmm IPHONE GOT ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mophie-Battery-Built-Storage-iPhone-Black/dp/B00IN2UYN0
THIS IS UNFAIR
You're doomed I got 6.0 booting, but couldn't make our jellybean aged RIL and modem to work (and it doesn't want to work with opensource RIL), so device got no phone signal, no gps and other stuff depending on RIL... Sometimes even 5.1.1 was a ***** to build - camera is still half-functional and people were having issues with bluetooth.

SM-T800, fed up with out of space errors

I'm continually getting out of space errors with my SM-T800, unable to update apps etc. Its rooted, running nougat OFW, with a 64gb sdxc class 1 card. But I can't get it to link apps to card, either through the official android method or 3rd party such as app2sd. I still love it for its screen resolution, never mind its good looks, and can't think of anything else on the market I would consider replacing it with. So can anyone point me in the direction of either a decent looking custom rom with integrated app linking, or an easy to follow guide to app linking which actually works?
What about using adoptable storage? I assume that more or less all custom roms support that.

Yeah Lineage OS 14.1 has an option to format / setup the microSD card for internal storage use or use as portable storage for music, photos etc.

Is it possible to encrypt the MicroSD?

Hello, I have been using my Redmi Note 8 pro 64gb, and I have been looking for a way to encrypt my micro SD (+64gb), I want to save photos and personal information but without the encryption anyone who have access to the microSD can access the information, so I've been looking all over the internet with no success, I have used LG X venture android 7 with SD encryption, also a huawei Y9 2019 EMUI 9.1.0.224, but seems like MIUI doesn't have this important feature.
Does anyone know if there is a way to encrypt the microSD in the phone? it seems like it is a way to force people concerned about privacy to purchase other versions with more internal memory.

guess not. just got mine, miui 12 or whatever the newest just drop, OS 10 (android). but if you are to use a SD it must be encrypted, if not it should only be used for music and files that have no real meaning.
Seems the phone says its encrypted by default on the internal, and you can't un encrypt it. I wanted to verify that the whole phone IS really encrypted.. if not it may mean needing to root the phone and instlaling custom rom
