SM-T800, fed up with out of space errors - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm continually getting out of space errors with my SM-T800, unable to update apps etc. Its rooted, running nougat OFW, with a 64gb sdxc class 1 card. But I can't get it to link apps to card, either through the official android method or 3rd party such as app2sd. I still love it for its screen resolution, never mind its good looks, and can't think of anything else on the market I would consider replacing it with. So can anyone point me in the direction of either a decent looking custom rom with integrated app linking, or an easy to follow guide to app linking which actually works?

What about using adoptable storage? I assume that more or less all custom roms support that.

Yeah Lineage OS 14.1 has an option to format / setup the microSD card for internal storage use or use as portable storage for music, photos etc.

LG G4 Format SD Card as Internal Storage

Hey guys, just a quick question.... any one of you guys are able to format your SD card as the internal Storage. My G4 is running Marshmallow H81520c but I just can't seem to find the option. Any help guys?
The feature seems to be disabled by LG.
I used the following guide @Reddit to enable it via adb:

Thanks a lot!?
Do we know for sure that it was disabled by LG? Very frustrating if that's the case. It's one of the better changes in Marshmallow. I cannot use adb to make any changes as I'm using a chromebook.

Hi. Thanks for that link. I'm keen on the S7, but with only 32GB of storage, I may have to try something like the above to have more app memory available. However, I've never done this sort of thing before. Is there a video or something that could step me though how to do this sort of thing? Maybe another article for complete beginners? I think a lot of people could be interested in doing this if Samsung doesn't make the 64GB version readily available.
Yes, please

Can someone please provide a walkthrough for beginners? Just bought the LG G4 for my wife who burns through storage like there's no tomorrow. I've downloaded Android Studio and don't even know how to make it function in order to follow the guide on Reddit. Please help.
Thank you.
Adoptable storage is a bad idea for a flagship, its more for low end devices.
- once you make the sd card adoptable, you no longer have an sd card. Its encrypted and becomes a part of the system. if you remove it at any time the system won't like it.
If the card goes bad, you have to factory reset unless there is an easier fix. If your device goes bad then you can't just remove the sd card and stick it in somewhere else. So you better be using the cloud on a regular basis.
write speeds on the fastest cards are half as fast as internal and a sixth as fast for read. so there will be a mixed experience when reading/writing to one medium over another.
A compromise may be to partition the sd card so a portion of it is adoptable and the remainder works just as a normal sd card.
Yes I know it's not ideal from a performance perspective, but like I said, my wife downloads apps like there's no tomorrow, most of which cannot be transferred to the SD card. Because her Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is constantly running out of storage space, I just bought the LG G4 because I read that adoptable storage could be enabled through Android Studio, I just don't know how to do so.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

HTC 10 - Adaptive Storage Mode

Might as well create a thread of people who are using their SD Cards as Adaptive Storage instead of External "removable" storage.
I recently bought a 128GB Lexar Pro 1000x *UHS-II and used it as Adaptive Storage. So far so good but during the formating of the card it was stucked on 40% but rebooted the phone and voila after reboots it became adaptive storage and migrated all my data.
I have another curious question, when the SD Card is used as Adaptive Storage, is the SDCard is the primary install location of all apps? What happens when the internal storage is full, will it just continue doing its stuff occupying the big space from external SD?
Looking forward to an enjoyable discussion.

Been using this on my One M8 and now HTC 10 so I had some experience.
First off when you first run the Adaptive storage say yes to move app etc, this will help when you connect Phone to a PC so you can see the Full SD card for putting music on etc
App now install on both Internal or SD card depends on the app tbh I found most games will go right onto the SDcard, the great thing now though you can move each app when ever you want.

No NO it will finish eventually. Id say reformat as portable again then reformat as internal.
Cool. I just switched from a slower 128GB card to a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I U3 card so that I could switch to adaptive storage. No freezing, etc, when formatting. It just worked. I was originally running it the 128GB card without adaptive storage enabled..
The only "hitch" that I encountered was that HTC Messages app kept saying "Space is unavailable" every time I opened a picture message, or tried to save the image. These were ones that I received after I switched to adaptive storage. I cleared the cache, and that didn't help, at least at first, but then it started working as expected after some fooling around. It's worth mentioning that Google Messenger wasn't affected, it was only HTC Messages..
Other than that, so far so good. I'm not rooted (yet), and haven't read to far into that error, although there are a few users experiencing that with the HTC messages program. Will report back if I notice anything odd.

Last night I wanted to try Viper10 Rom, on my stock rooted rom I was using the adoptive storage feature, the second I wiped(NOT format) data the SD card was ruined.
Its required to full wipe when changing roms with totally different bases, so adoptive storage seems like you can no longer flash custom roms? :/
My Sandisk 64GB card thinks its 16GB and it won't even work, it formats in windows 10, won't read in Android anymore, says its "unsupported and 0MB" but it thinks its 16gb, and once you try to move anything to it Windows no longer reads the card and corrupts.
I don't know if adoptive storage is the exact cause or if my card happen to die while in TWRP so beware, does anyone else have feedback on this? what's your experience with flashing roms and having adoptive storage?
It sucks!! but eh I guess getting a Samsung 64GB Pro+ is better then a regular Sandisk(not extreme).

Oh man, yes anyone using adaptable storage and formats/wipes is going to erase their card.
The SD card issues you see are normal and should be fixable. Try this tool (it's free) http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-format-your-SD-card-back-to-the-original-si/

Thanks! So let me ask you, how do you enjoy adoptive storage and be able to flash new custom roms?
Wiping data doesn't wipe internal storage, and it doesn't wipe portable SD either, so why does adoptive storage SD mode get corrupted on data wipe? What's the way around it? never use adoptive storage again unless you plan on staying with stock or one rom?

Personally even at 32gb I don't see a need for adoptable storage.
I keep my media on a 64gb card and don't use the internal storage except for pics and misc things. This way I can flash updates and things from recovery, directly off the SD.

In the old days we used Apps on SD because of storage space etc. Do you really need apps on the SD when installed normally they're still on the internal storage and not the system folder.

I suppose it will be fine, I have 9GB left now but after all this crap I RUU'd my phone to fix everything because my phone wouldn't stop boot looping after around 3 minutes after this SD corruption.
I have all the apps I usually have installed, but almost all these games never been run after the loss, so no data yet for these games, hopefully after a couple months of use, saved game data and such only make it where it says 8GB left or more, if not, I am sure it will be alright.
NOTE: I already moved photos, videos, music, Game ROMs(SNES N64, PS1) to SD Card leaving 9GB left.
I'm sure it will all be fine, thank you for helping me make this decision today!, I also noticed in Download/Fastboot Mode that the SD card is properly detected, no more "SD Card Not Mounted" Firmware updates will be easier, no more PC use! :good:
It's not ruined @Viper4713 It's just partitioned incorrectly.
You can only have a single partition on the SD card. Yours now has a 16GB partition instead of a 64GB partition.
You can use this tool to "recover the lost space". There's manual ways as well but this works just fine.
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/d...l-to-restore-full-capacity-on-sdhc/sdxc-cards
Remember that your SD card reader needs to support SDXC cards.
If you use this with a reader that only supports SDHC cards, you'll end up with a 32GB partition.

I agree. If you are a fan of switching ROMs I dont suggest Adaptive Storage.

Adaptive storage is a meh feature for phones with 32GBs or more on-board. I think it was designed for the low budget Android phones with 8GBs or less that practically can't fit anything on their phone without assistance. There's plenty of cheap phones that come with sd card slots and this feature benefits them greatly.

I will heed your advice, but what to do about apps which will potentially use up a lot of storage space such as music apps ? Spotify is well behaved and lets me specify the SD card for its offline cache, but Soundcloud Go doesn't. Is there a way to either create a symlink or run just that one app off the SD card without using adoptable storage ?

Help with Custom Rom for LG G4 Beat (H735)

Hi Everybody,
My LG G4 BEAT is now a little bit slow.... i have already did what i can do on the current Rom (cleaning, removing apps, clearing cache) - and nothing seems to improve to situation.
i have on it 32 GB micro SDcard, and i save on it everything that can be saved instead on the memory phone, but it is not enough, i have always the same message "not enough space...." when i try to download new Apps or when i'm trying to make Updates.
i figured maybe i'll install a new Rom, and the most important thing is that it will make the phone work faster.
can you recommend me on suitable ROM ? is the first time that i try to do that, so i need some good explanations.
thanks! =)
no bootloader unlock = no recovery = no custom rom
In my experience, custom roms are nearly always faster than stock. And they don't slow down as much as the stock rom. Perosnally I like vanilla android roms with a few tweaks. I find they are the most stable and least prone to slowdown over time. I've used Cyanogenmod in the past and loved it, but there isn't a stable release for the G4. I recommend looking into AOSP-based roms in the Android Development section of this forum. Or you could just do a factory reset, which will make your phone faster. It will still slow down over time, however.
I don't think installing a custom rom will really help your problem with not having enough space. However, installing a rom clears your data partition (this means all apps and the saved data with those apps will be removed. Your personal data like pictures and music will be left untouched.) And that means you'll have plenty of free space!
Have you thought about mounting your SD card as an internal partition instead of a media SD card? This allows the system to use the sd card as if it were an internal sd card, meaning you can install apps to it and stuff. But you will only be able to use your SD card for that phone.

No it isn't, it's just hidden.
You can partition your SD Card through ADB.
On reddit (Enable adoptable storage on your LG G4 (stock, no root needed)) there is a nice tutorial for the LG G4, but it works exactly the same way for the G4s.
But read the comments, there you get usefull hints, like only use a part of the external SD as adoptable storage.
Since I use this I have more than enough space with my G4s and it's even faster, if your SD Card is fast enough.
If you need any further details don't hesitate to contact me.
if i install twrp no-troot h735 then flash magisk to phone it will be rooted?

Nope, as long as I saw....and it won't be

Internal memory extension

Hi!
I used whole 32GB of the memory. I know one can get SD card (which I own btw.).
But some apps like Marvel Future Fight etc. install only on internal memory for some reason.
So is there a card/device/rom whatever that can expand INTERNAL memory?
Find a way to make Marshmallow run on this device, and you'll have adaptive storage, which is exactly that - uses external SD as internal memory.

Or are there any bumbers for back expanding the internal storage hmm IPHONE GOT ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

You're doomed I got 6.0 booting, but couldn't make our jellybean aged RIL and modem to work (and it doesn't want to work with opensource RIL), so device got no phone signal, no gps and other stuff depending on RIL... Sometimes even 5.1.1 was a ***** to build - camera is still half-functional and people were having issues with bluetooth.

Problems with Storage.

Hi, my name is Julian, I am a newbie and I've got two big problems with the Galaxy J5(I think 2016) with 8GB internal and a 32GB SD Card, Stock Gapps and Lineage Os:
Internal Storage Issue
The Phone constantly says “Not enough Storage”, although there are NO extra Apps installed, except Whatsapp, and he has no personal Data(Images, movies, etc....)
BUT when I look in the Storage option in the Settings, the Calculation is not correct. It says : 3Gb for Android, 1,5GB for Apps and maybe 0,5Gb for Data, but the rest is not showing up.
SD Card to Internal Issue
So because of the 1. Issue, we decided to format the SD Card as an internal Storage. We searched up where this Option is to find and then we tried it. During the process it told us that we would free up about 2Gb of the Internal when moving stuff to the new formatted SD, so we did it, but after all There is no Extra Storage, and we are still not able to install apps from Google Play to the SD Card.(And it also says that 16GB of the SD Card are for the Android System, even if there are only 2 small Files or so).
I would be really thankful if you could try to fix our problems, because we can't go back to Stock because the Backup was broken and the copy from the PC doesn't even show up in TWRP(nor with the Backup function, neither with the File explorer function).

Storage is a general problem. Not device specific.
It is no good idea to use stock GApps. A minimal gapps is enough. You can install Google apps from play store.
WhatsApp doesn't use adapted storage AFAIK. Especially videos use much memory. Delete them all.
