Dear Guys for the past 2 days i am having this strange issue with my primary microphone
1) During a voice call, the caller on the other end cannot hear my voice
2) Have tried primary microphone diagonistic *#*#7378423#*#* and it is not able to recognize my voice. But when i blow air and when i tap it detects. If i shout out loud , i can hear a faint and muffled voice.
So thought it was a hardware problem but strangely when i connect my sennheiser cx 275s earphones , both the earphones mic and primary microphone works.
I have already tried solutions like,
1) Disabling 'Microphone Noise suppression ' feature
2) Factory reset
3) Tried flashing jellybean and kitkat different firmware versions using flashtool.
Nothing seems to work. Please reply if you encountered a issue like this and solved it.
Infact i guess it could be a audio jack contact problem. In older OTMP audio jacks when we plugin our headset it actually pushes a metal contact and the microphone input gets routed from phone microphone to headset microphone and when we remove the headset the contact moves back to its original position and the circuit becomes open and mic input gets routed back to primary microphone.
But our xperia ZL follows CTIA standard where no movable contacts are there. So when we push headset ,the rings in the headset make contact with the metal dots inside the audio jack.
Really worried because i cannot send it to sony service center as my warrantly expired recently.Got my phone by last september 2013. I guess warranty is for only one year. Any idea how much i will have to pay if they need to replace my microphone?
I would prefer taking it to service center as a last option. I welcome any suggestions that could help me

Only solution is to take to service center. i had same problem long back, they replaced with new one for free provided you are under warranty. Its a hardware fault

I'm having an issue with my Xperia Play. During a phone call, I usually don't get sound unless I switch to speaker mode or I plug in earphones.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it only works after I switch back and forth the speakermode.
I wonder if it's a hardware or software issue. Anyone could help ?
edit: I think I had this issue after rooting and unlocking the bootloader but I can't be sure because I didn't spend a lot of time with the phone locked down.
edit2: I rooted by flashing Bin4ry's package. I read a bit about that and it seems it can have a negative effect on the baseband version not being the right one for my 2.3.3 firmware ?
Here are my version numbers:
Build: 4.0.A.2.368
Kernel: Doomlord #3
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-20302204-36
Bumping just in case. Someoe knowledgeable could see it.
I upgraded with flashtool to 2.3.4 and the issue is still there.
No sound during a phone call
Hello I have this issue too, I hope someone will recognize my post
While I dial a phone and press call (then earphone turns on) I hear a GSM signal sound (same as if you hear your phone signal in a PC speakers) instead of voice.
In service menu if I press Earphone test i hear this high frequency sounds too.
I HAVE already REPLACED BOTH CABLES WHICH CONNECT EARPHONE AND MOTHERBOARD (1.flex and 2. the one with front camera and earphone included).
So cable replacement DID NOT SOLVE it.
I thought it is SW stuff, but I FLASHED .62 ROM but it is STILL SAME.
New .80 BASEBAND DIDN'T HELPED to me.
Last time my GSM signal was crashing sometimes, If I tried to connect manually it told me that my sim card is not allowed to connect to my operator... something like that
my phone R800i and I don't remember when it started, I think in the morning after party last month
Any ideas what to do guyz? :crying: :crying:
Really want to solve this :cyclops:

Probably if you return to the Stock Version. Also make you have not by accidentally damaged the earpiece with water, even if you were sweating from you ear or something because it might not always be the cables that are wrong but some other HW problem.

Hello, I wrote it all in a previous post, my earpiece is new and .62 is stock ROM, In my opinion there is some HW problem in gsm signal modulation. I was in a smartphone-repair shop and they told me it will cost too much. I think this is the weakest point of XPLAY, because my friend has XPLAY too and while he dial a number and start calling, phone screen turns black and no hardware keys can wake up the screen..
Then I discovered only power button works here after checking ''Power button ends call'' in Accessibility settings. But it is still annoying.
But my problem is not solved, I have to phone with headphones connected or with rear speakers as audio output :/
hi please help
i have this problem No sound during a phone call please help
News?
Any news about this issue? There is load of threads about an ear speaker, I can still hear only GSM signal beep in it
Hello,
the sound quality is very bad. The strange thing is, the problem occurs only using the phone app. I am using the stock phone app.
Any idea? I need help. All other things are working but I can't use the phone to make calls. It sounds like distortion ... . Already the sound during ringing has the problem.
The problem only occurs with the internal front speaker. No problem if I use the rear loudspeaker or headphones.
Is there a wait to solve the problem?
Call Sample
Hello,
here is an call sample. I know the quality is not perfekt beacause of the notebook fan. I call another phone and after ringing the mailbox of the called person starts. Especially at the end were the mailbox voice occurs the problem is very clear. It is nearly impossible to understand what is said.
Is this the normal sound of the internal speaker (front)?

of course not.
Hello,
thanks for the answer. Found the following thread.

Strange thing I am also using this phone in Europe. I am quite sure the problem is not a hardware problem. Because if I use the phone with VoIP service app, the speaker just works ok.
I would try a clean flash of a custom rom, factory reset maybe (was it always bad?..)? I also had problems with the internal speaker, if I have set the volume higher than half, it made crackle sounds. But it was a hardware issue, (in skype, fring, viber also had this problem). I had to send it back to the usa, cause I live in europe and literally no one could fix it here because of the lack of hardware. I had to live without my phone for a month.. annoying thing, but now it's ok

First of the time after buying I didn't use the phone for calling. With Skype I will try again. Also the VOIP test. How did you manage the repair? With ATT or Samsung?
Its not only because of the time. Also because of the money for transport and repair.
Thanks for answering and help!
If I make or recieve a call with the stock sony call app, the other party can not hear me unless I switch to speaker. I tried with different people, it's always the same.
However, if I use google hangouts for calls the both the microphone and the spaker work just fine.
If I record a voice message in Whatsapp, the microphone works but is really low.
If I use Trackid for a song the microphone doesn't work again.
This has only started a few weeks ago and I can't find any solution on my own. Anyone has an idea what the problem could be?
I already tried safe boot and factory reset, it stays the same. I am really confused as it only happens in a few apps while working fine in others.
Thanks in advance!
Just blow some air into the microphone. I also have this problem

That didn't work :/
But thank you for your answer
I submitted my zl in service centre for 25 days and they do nothing , always keep saying that parts are coming. Finally I ask them to give it to me without replacing the microphone as i have to go somewhere, Finally I factory reset my phone use a pin, cotton and and some water in the microphone then blown some air And it WORKED. So most probably its the dirt. For your hangouts working it might be your phantasm.
Updated to 4.4.4 but didnt solve it.
Anyone had this failure?
Hope theres a fix.
thanks psycho punk

Jesus, this is the second failure on my xperia. First time was lucky still within year warranty. Suddenly stopped turning on. Local repair told no reason why.
Be Sure its speaker, for 2 days my speakers were not working but then i recognized that somehow it is taking the headset connected all time.
Call a number then turn on the loudspeaker to check..
Did you check if it works with the alarm sound at the Volumes section in Settings -> Sounds?
If it did work, it's a problem with audio mods as it somehow interferes with the speaker's behavior...
If you didn't install any audio mods, then it's likely to be a hardware problem ( " -_-)
So here is the problem. I have tried talking to Google Support and also LG Support. Not under warranty anymore. I have heard several different people mention problems with their mics in calls, be it incoming or outgoing. I have done several things to try to fix this problem; flashing stock firmware and upgrading thru OTA's, clearing cache, rebooting every day, flashing custom roms, modifying the build.prop, opening the device and checking for physical damage. To my knowledge this phone has 3 microphones that are used for actual speaking and background noise reduction. When I opened the device everything looked ok on what I assumed were the mics (the tiny square bits soldered to the logic board at the top and the bottom). I assume these were just going bad and finally gave out on me. Has anyone had any experience getting these fixed or repaired? Is there any software based approach I can look into? I am really tired of using my speakerphone in every call. I assume I am not the only person with this problem.
If anyone can shed some light on this or help in anyway I would appreciate it
Thanks!
I would start by describing the mic issue you are experiencing during voice calls.
Haven't had any myself.
No one can hear me using the microphone, as soon as I switch to speakerphone the other party is able to hear me.
I've read mics can stop functioning if you try and clean the phone with compressed air. As far as fixing or replacing a mic I am unable to provide assistance.
Well rats. Hopefully someone can shed some light on getting this fixed. I do have some soldering experience but I don't even know how this translates via the logic board. Anyone that has more information the help would be awesome. Thank you for your time though previous posters.

I have this problem as well, but also all media volume can't be heard through the speakers. I've personally cleaned and replaced the unit and nothing works, I just have to choose speaker and start talking, else use a headset or a bluetooth mic
Same problem, no solution yet.
Think that is a software/driver/app combination bug.
When Iam in call hardly can anyone hear me, if I cover top mic - then im heard again (proof that bottom mic is working).
Top mic is used to cancel background noise, phone interpret your voice as background noise and volume it down. That way nobody can hear you.
When I cover top mic - no background noise detected and my voice is heard again.
Question is why top mic detect legit voice as background noise?
Same problem here. Can't use microphone normally on any sort of voice call. I have to change to speaker for people to be able to hear me. I'm not sure if I still have warranty so if it's a software problem I might be able to fix it by myself.
