Hello I want to buy this Tablet but I'm wondering if still a good deal to buying it now in 2014 or if any better option at this point? Thank you
It used to be the best tablet out there, but I think now the best ones are:
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
Galaxy Tab S 8.4
Nexus 9
They're all great choices, you can get comparison videos on YouTube. Good luck

Thank you for your answer, wow that are some great tablet I can see, but too expensive for me... Anything in the same price range? Or for the price still is good?
Thanks again
I'm not sure how much does the G Pad cost now, can you tell me?...

I believe you will have a hard time searching a tablet with those spec for that price. Maybe Acer iconia 8 could be a candidate? At least on paper it reads promising.
I and my family using gpad every day for hours and it is just still fun, for almost a year now the ratio between screen size and device size is fabulous. With the plenty custom 4.4.4 roms here you have a good choice, i personally hate the lg original software. But it has some nice features.
However there might not be a lollipop rom soon, at least lg themselves do not tell us something about update...
Still a good purchase i would say
I recently bought my 8.3 GPE from eBay for $200, if that's any help.
Non GPE are a bit cheaper.

I bought mine online from Sam's Club for $198.99 a few weeks back. Newegg sent a email yesterday with the G Pad 8.3 for $219 with a coupon code. Check out Slickdeals or Fatwallet.
EDIT:
This coupon is good until October 22 at 11:59 PM PDT
Your Price: $219.99

I bought mine 2 weeks ago and I also didn't wanted to spend to much money.
It is indeed the best tablet out there is terms of price/quality!!! No other tablet can beat his one and I believe It will always have good developments here on XDA...
The battery is fair, the screen as great image quality and the build quality is fantastic...
I bought it for £154.00. That was a great deal...
If you don't want to spend allot go for this one...

Well I saw one for $169.99 refurbished and I think is a good deal... But I dont know if I wait untill black friday, or maybe is this the best option I got.
Also I saw the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T, have some similar spec but is from 2.012, so what do you think? I go for the Lg G pad?
Thank you all

No the G Pad 8.3 is much better! Only problems are battery life (about 5-6 hours which is still relevant and low screen brightness), but screen quality, performance and build quality are just amazing! Get a GPE edition G Pad 8.3 if you want lollipop and updates! No other tablets can match the performance given at this price! But seriously take a look at the benchmark beast Nexus 9 and Tab S! Don't hesitate to spend a little more and always try to buy new devices which are more reliable than refurbished! Don't buy a cheap Android model, get problems and then switch to a much more expensive iPad! I know too many people who do that! Experience a top notch Android tablet and you'll not regret it! The exceptions to price are the G Pad 8.3 (don't know how LG made that so inexpensive with that excellent quality) and Nexus 7!
Just bought a second Gpad 8.3 about a month ago. Love this tablet. I prefer to V500 (not Google Play Edition) because it has all the custom rom development. The 4:3 screen ratio of the new Nexus 9 is what turned me off and I decided to get another Gpad 8.3.

Just think of all the pan and scan movies you can watch on the Nexus 9 that are "formatted to fit your screen".
Don't buy the TF700T, it's cobbled by a slow storage chip.
Yes, my $200 GPE from fleaBay was lightly used.

HAH. Imagine all the letterboxed widescreen movies that will probably use less screen space than the Gpad with the black bars top and bottom. 4:3 seems like a huge step backward to me.

I regret missing out on the GPE for $205 shipped last month because the GPE will get Lollipop. The v500 most likely wont get it.
I'm waiting to get Lollipop on my old Nexus 7, then quick sell it on eBay or Craigslist.
Thank you all for answer me, I just found another tablet similar to this so I'm 50-50 about it, what do you think abotu the Samsung galaxy tab pro 8.4? It worth to pay more?

Maybe. That's a good tablet. It's your call, really.
I owned a TF300TG. The TF700T has a slow eMMC, but the TF701T does not. I also wanted the TF701T, but then I started searching for a smaller one and the 8 inches seemed like a nice compromise. I just received my G Pad yesterday and I am very satisfied (comparing it to the TF300TG). The Samsung 8.4 inches tablets are more expensive, although the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 does have more RAM (there is a version with 3 GB of RAM) and 2k screen resolution. I can tell you that is is worth buying the G Pad with its only fullHD resolution, you won't see any difference between the fullHD and the 2k resolution. The TF701T is good if you find it at a good price, but the 10 inches really seem too much (at least for me, the TF300TG had 10 inches). Mine was 170 GBP (around 271 USD), new from Amazon.co.uk. Buy a used one only if the price is around 130-140 and it looks really good. If not, just wait for Black Friday.

Using an Droid Dna right now but plan on selling it and using an upgrade someone on our family plan doesnt want.
Choices... the G Pro or G2.
G2 is $199 with contract renewal but I have a $50 off coupon at Best Buy and they give you a $50 gift card when you buy the phone...
G Pro is $99 ,so it would be $49 + upgrade fee + tax. have a relative that works at the store that might be able to wave the upgrade fee too...
Camera quality is important to me as I do not own a nice digital camera anymore. I also read a lot of books on my phone so the bigger screen on the G pro would be good for that as well as for gaming which I do a lot of.
The nicer cam on the G2 is what is drawing me into choosing it and plus the screen is 5.2 which is pretty big.
How is the cam/recorder on the G Pro?
G pro is going really cheap on ebay these days. I got brand new one for $320 all inc. It might be worth to just go for outright purchase for this device right now.
This is one of the reason I even bought this just few weeks back. It was bloody good value for money.
Cam and recorder are pretty much industry standard. It is very good. Not great, but still very good.
I own both G Pro and G2...
After 2 weeks, I keep my G Pro and let go the G2.
G Pro"s 5.5" huge screen and awesome big LED home button is the clear winner.

....plus... don't forget the bigger removable battery (capacity than the G2) and expandable memory, which the G2 does not have.
Plus....G2 is just 5" in viewable screen due to the 0.2" taken up by the On-Screen button.
So, you are not getting a full 5.2" in most modes especially in gaming.

Honestly IMO the camera isn't that amazing. It takes good pictures but they aren't spectacular or anything. It's really not that bad but when I want to take good pictures I whip out my S4 Active but when I'm just using my phone as a phone or browsing the web or whatever I prefer the larger screen and after getting my tempered glass screen protector the display looks very crispy and stays beautiful all the time. If I were to get another smaller screen device I'd go with the Nexus 5 that's about to drop soon but that's just me. I still want to eventually get a Note 3 to add to my collection of toys lol good luck with whatever you decide to go with.
I've played with both and ended up going for the G Pro simply for that huge 5.5" 1080p screen and micro SD slot. ~24gb internal + ~59gb external is a huge plus for me. In terms of emulators, the G Pro wins hands down just for the storage space to amass many games lol.

I am considering buying a used Optimus G Pro today for $260 shipped. Are you guys happy with this phone? Or do you think I can do better for $260?
I bought one a couple days ago for 240. Price isn't all that bad and it's still a. Very good phone. I had a G2 just a month or two ago. Made some trades and ended up with a Atrix HD and that thing was slooooow. So if your upgrading from something like that do it. Or you can wait a day or two and the market will be flooded with S4s and HTC Ones (M7)

Yeah but at the same time it's the same cpu and ram, with a smaller screen... frankly the G Pro looks better IMHO.
220 Is a fair price on eBay. I bought mine for 150 and paid 25 for a screen
That was a great deal optimus. I paid $250 for mine off E-bay. But in all fairness, it was also in excellent condition as apposed to the one's being sold with scratched up screens and everything else for the same price. It's an excellent phone. One hell of a powerhouse too. If you have the chance to buy one Xad go for it. You won't be disappointed.

I was happy enough with the operation and design of the phone to get another one used and in good shape off of e-bay. I cant afford this weeks primo phone, so getting "last years" worked out good.
Like everything though it depends on what you want.
it is large,
it does not have an amoled screen,
it has a slightly older but longer in action version of the OS as default.
it uses slimport ,
the screen is of good brightness, which also means the battery can get sucked down quick when turned all the way up.
It does not have an FM radio like some china stuff does.
the very high resolution screen means a lot of work for the GPU aspects of the phone, when playing 3d games.
It has a thermal protection routine that kicks in when out in the hot california sun with it working hard (led backlight lowers to reduce led junction temperatures.
The GPS works good.
Most of this stuff is what i wanted, cept the screen didnt need to be that high of res.
bought it for 270USD, and very very happy with that for those reason:
1./ having the same hardware as the nexus 7 2013. I have both of them (almost the same hardware). So everything is working pretty the same on both devices.
2./ For 270 USD, nothing comes close with LG E980 performance. You have 32gb storage on board (+MicroSD), Hardware as the HTC One and Galaxy S4, 3140 mah Battery, and the IR blaster, and the awsome LED light button and an amazing screen
3./ XDA and CM supports it
This phone's only real drawback is the lack of official updates and a locked bootloader... the bootloader can still be successfully bypassed by Freegee. Other than that, it offers immense value for money as stated in previous posts. Gorgeous looks and build quality and fast...fast...fast.
As the title of the thread states.
Theres a sale on newegg right now to get the tab for 229.99. This seems like a pretty good deal but I was wondering what all of you think. Is this a good enough deal? Are there any issues which I should know of ahead of time?
Thanks.
I would wait to see if it goes down to $199. I thought it was $199 for awhile at newegg in the past.
Totally worth it! This tablet is a beautiful premium beast with Nexus like price!! It can go to $200, but $30 difference for this bargain is nothing! Go for it! Totally worth it unless you got more cash for better tablets! In any case, the G Pad 8.3 is much higher spec'd than most tablets in its price range or even more expensive tablets and the new G Pad are lower spec'd!! Accessories are a bit rare though!
Upgrade to KitKat using LG Tool on PC which is bug free compared to ota where some people faced some bugs!
Worth it! Just bought mine last week from Expansys-USA for $225.00
Unless you need ultra high resolution or a top-end processor (in which case look at the Samsung 8.4" Tab Pro or Tab S) and are willing to pay for it, the LG 8.3 is definitely still worth getting. Only slightly bigger than the Nexus 7 but with a significantly better screen. It'll play most of the most intense games (like Asphalt 8) just fine, movies play great, and it's ideal for reading eBooks or comics. LG knew what they were doing when they designed this tablet; it's as big as it can be yet still held comfortably with one hand.
At $229 it's a great value that can't be rivaled unless you need the freedom with ROMs and such that the Nexus 7 gives you.
Thanks guys. I suppose the last factor is how easy is it to root and ROM this tablet? I've been looking around and have found plenty of guides for the v510 but not so many for the v500.
i bought my g pad for 179 euros in europe !! I can say that was a super deal...That tablet ROCKS!Maybe the best for that money

Rooting with Towelroot apk takes only about 15s and is fully functional and you need to install a superuser apk from play store!
Installing a recovery is not that easy and towelroot is not the best rooting method if you want to install recovery and flash ROMs!
Stay on 4.2.2, root using normal rooting methods and flash your ROM!
The stock LG ROM is pretty useful compared to aosp roms as it has more functions! Happy with it!
Go and grab this pad. I think it will be Best Buy for long time - if you want/need Full HD screen and other goodies...
Absolutely... rootable easily, excellent size and resolution... and the GPE is on clearance at Expansys I'm considering getting another one.

Pick one up! They are excellent, and much faster processor than present LG's out. In fact most all specs are better on the 8.3 inch (older model), than the new ones. My opinion: You can't go wrong!
I'm looking to buy one myself. I'd it possible to turn a vanilla G Pad into a GPe?

Oddly I have a v510 GPE running lollipop and sleekmason's latest SleekAI kernel (it rocks) and I love it but would trade it for a v500 in a second because I am bored and want ROMs to flash. Had hopes awhile back for a CM12 for the v510 but it seems that was just a dream I had as it has not materialized.
Would be willing to sell mine for $199 if I could figure out how.
Just paid £160 in asda. none of the boxes had seals on so the cashier knocked me £19 off the sticker price. still had the screen protector on and all the accessories were shrink wrapped
How are these holding up a few months after this post was started? I just saw one listed locally on craigslist for $155 and thinking about getting it. I actually have around $300 to spend but haven't found any of the bigger tablets I want in that range, all the good stuff is still closer to $400. If I get this then I can spend the rest on a keyboard.
Which leads to the big question I have, how productive can you be with this? I've held the Samsung Tab S 8.4 and it felt bigger than I expected. The G Pad seems pretty equal in size. But has anyone tried to do extensive typing on it, like writing a college paper?
Hi guys i'm from italy and i'm trying to buy a tablet. Use is only university and some videos. I found this second hand (still 1 year warrancy, not really used) lg g pad 8.3 at 150€ (ie 170$, 110£ for those of you who aren't from europe )
First question is: is it an affordable price? Only wifi version
Then, i would ask you about the battery life, and if it is still good (no lagging, fluid) through everyday use. I have a nexus 5 which i consider very responsive and very good, is it comparable? And what about a comparison with the ipad mini one (in italy has the same average price of 150€ for a second hand) ? It is older but it is still a good device. Do you think lg g pad would win 10-0?
Thanks guys!
150€ is quite a good price in Italy where most tech things seem to be more expensive than normal! Against iPad mini it wins hands down except maybe screen brightness.
Nexus 5 has s800 and Adreno 330 while this has s600 and adreno 320. It's very fluid, but there's some lag here and there sometimes when playing heavy games. And it has micro sd slot, so it's great to store movies! It also has a premium build quality.
Well I bought my G pad twice the price 300€ new about 1 year ago! Go for it

Only Korea and some Asian countries have lollipop for now! Verizon version as well. The rest are still waiting for an ota. The Korean version which is the same as international version can be flashed through pc via a custom lg flash tool 2014, thread in general section! Check devpt section for other custom roms which u may want to use. There's only minor improvements in custom roms. I prefer lg rom since my phone has cm12 just to not feel bored about vanilla Android.
Most of us here are using the Korean lollipop rom since it was available back in May or else you'll have to keep waiting for an ota to appear.
Excellent price for one. I would buy in a heartbeat at that price.

I'm planning to buy a small tablet. All I need is good display, good audio, good size and possibility to unlock root and find community support, that cost no more than 150 € second hand. I owned all the nexus , 7 2012 is too slow for those days .Nexus 7 2013 is still great for what I need, but sadly has an engineering defect that makes the touch degradate and presenting ghost touches and dead areas ( I had two of this) . Nexus 10 is a little too big and a little bit slower than nexus 7 2013 . Nexus 9 and pixel c too costly
The other only similar choose that comes to mind is the Xiaomi mipad (first model)
Do you think gpad is ok for me? Is there any notice I have to know? As hardware common defects , problems on nougat ROMs . (Just read to avoid gpe v510 version)
Any help or consideration would be helpful
It is a good tablet, but I think I would rather look for something stronger. I see a lot of lags in LOS 14.1 and seems that it won't be better. Maybe some G Pad II or G Pad III, although I am not sure if there is some LOS available for these tablets.

And this is exactly my problem , I preferred an old nexus 10 to any other 200€ range actual tablet . Because it's not so fast, sometimes lags , cameras are not working on 7.1.2, but I know that it is stable and decent for YouTube, internet surfing and reading. I don't use any graphic intensive game and only need a bunch of apps . I tell you this because I bought 3 tablets from Asus ,Lenovo and Samsung and tried many others from Asus and other brands with 2 gigs of ram , and no one can even reach the nexus 10 performance in the long time ( after some months) , they all goes from ok and fluid to sh** , Asus more than any other . I know what I do I'm a technician with a computer/smartphone repair laboratory , there were no bloatware or any background games present ,nothing, I even tried to debloat the system the most that I could . It's because all of this that I was asking
No way buddy.
Try the galaxy tab a 10.1 wifi 2016
I bought the tab A a few months ago and its really perfect for the money (around 189€ now).
Look at me for example.
Im here right now because i forgot to charge the galaxy for a week and i have to use the g pad now, so i already search for fixes etc..
It was a good tablet for 2013-14, but not anymore.

Don't even think about it! SD card random dismount problem has never been fixed, and the USA version was never updated beyond Jelly Bean.
Sent from my LGUS997 using Tapatalk
For what it's worth, I was still using my V500 for exactly the same purposes.
I wasn't on stock for long, though, having transitioned to CM12.1 and was fully satisfied with it for a long time. Of course I got the ghost touches and SD card unmounting issues, but a quick reboot would normally fix those.
Sadly, I'm here now because a recent app update sent it into a bootloop twice recently, so I'm investigating if my device is past its age...
As you should be able to pick up a v500 for something like $70, it may be worth a punt. I put Lineage 14.1 on the Mrs's v500 and its pretty good. The only time it really lags is when its woken from a long doze. Just bear in mind the screen isn't a patch on the Nexus 7 2013 as it has poor black levels and a yellow tint.
If I was in your boat, I'd also look out for a second hand Galaxy Tab S2 8". I bought mine a year ago in the UK for £190 from a CeX store so you should be able to pick one up much cheaper now. The lack of weight and screen of the S2 are amazing.
The S2 is very good for the money, though mine was $220 used, and my wife's v500(just bought it) was only $70. Right now I'm kinda wondering why I spent so much for the Samsung.
We'll see if I still think that in a couple weeks. But so far, I would say if you want a good cheap tablet, get the v500, and flash it with LOS. If you want the best used tablet in this size, for ~$200-$240, get the S2. Oh, and get the 2016 version. Not the 2015. LOS support for the 2016 is better. SM-T713 is what you want. The 710 is kinda dead, and it has been for a long time now.
But pertaining strictly to the OP, yes I would buy one today.
Because there is no other better LG tablet with custom ROM support, I think the best choice would be buying Google Pixel C.
Just a update for you my man, if you can, just buy the Lenovo P8 (don't know it's other names). It's a straight up update to the g pad 8.3, but if you still want it, buy the v500 man, it's a good tablet for around basics and intermediate needs

Or Nexus 9, I just bought one used on ebay for some 100 €
Maybe G Pad X 8.0 would be also a fine replacement, it support LOS, according to their downoad site.
Hmmmm.....
I am the user of lg g pad 8.3. If you will use the lg gpad 8.3 I strongly recommend you to flash LNG OS 14.1 on the pad.
OR FIND STRONGER ONE.
I wonder how do I use my old V500. I bought an older Nexus 9 and do not use V500 since then. I cannot use it as a video player cause it does not have a HDMI output. Maybe some video/audio player to kitchen, but it is not very usable without a remote. Any suggestions?

I know, I have one, but use it for a notebook. Also, it is not very suitable like a remote for a tablet.
I am rather thinking about alternative use for my V500
Btw, happy new year, everyone.

Have to totally disagree with this. The Nexus 9 is by far the worst Android device I've ever experienced. The v500 can actually hold things in memory where the N9 has to constantly boot them out due to lack of RAM. I've tried custom roms on the N9, custom kernels with tricks like zRAM but the performance is still way too inconsistent. The only solution for the N9 is sending it to China for someone to solder in another 2GB RAM.
If you can get a v500 today for the right money and the right condition, its still better than many cheap sub £100/$130 tablets that are kicking around. LOS is needed though.

I do not agree. I use Nexus 9 now with LOS 15.1 and it runs much better than v500, of course. Maybe It could be a little faster, but anyway it is very good. Only the battery seems to be weaker than v500 has, it discharges a little faster.

It can not work much better because there is no LOS 15.1 for v500.
