[Q] Should I buy this phone? - LG Optimus G Pro

I am considering buying a used Optimus G Pro today for $260 shipped. Are you guys happy with this phone? Or do you think I can do better for $260?

I bought one a couple days ago for 240. Price isn't all that bad and it's still a. Very good phone. I had a G2 just a month or two ago. Made some trades and ended up with a Atrix HD and that thing was slooooow. So if your upgrading from something like that do it. Or you can wait a day or two and the market will be flooded with S4s and HTC Ones (M7)

Yeah but what are the chances you'll find one of those phones for around $250? And on Amazon nonetheless (I'm paying completely in Amazon gift cards).

You might. The s5 and m8 will be in stores tomorrow.

Yeah but at the same time it's the same cpu and ram, with a smaller screen... frankly the G Pro looks better IMHO.

220 Is a fair price on eBay. I bought mine for 150 and paid 25 for a screen

That was a great deal optimus. I paid $250 for mine off E-bay. But in all fairness, it was also in excellent condition as apposed to the one's being sold with scratched up screens and everything else for the same price. It's an excellent phone. One hell of a powerhouse too. If you have the chance to buy one Xad go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Mine costed me 400€ last year on august f240k version

I was happy enough with the operation and design of the phone to get another one used and in good shape off of e-bay. I cant afford this weeks primo phone, so getting "last years" worked out good.
Like everything though it depends on what you want.
it is large,
it does not have an amoled screen,
it has a slightly older but longer in action version of the OS as default.
it uses slimport ,
the screen is of good brightness, which also means the battery can get sucked down quick when turned all the way up.
It does not have an FM radio like some china stuff does.
the very high resolution screen means a lot of work for the GPU aspects of the phone, when playing 3d games.
It has a thermal protection routine that kicks in when out in the hot california sun with it working hard (led backlight lowers to reduce led junction temperatures.
The GPS works good.
Most of this stuff is what i wanted, cept the screen didnt need to be that high of res.

bought it for 270USD, and very very happy with that for those reason:
1./ having the same hardware as the nexus 7 2013. I have both of them (almost the same hardware). So everything is working pretty the same on both devices.
2./ For 270 USD, nothing comes close with LG E980 performance. You have 32gb storage on board (+MicroSD), Hardware as the HTC One and Galaxy S4, 3140 mah Battery, and the IR blaster, and the awsome LED light button and an amazing screen
3./ XDA and CM supports it

This phone's only real drawback is the lack of official updates and a locked bootloader... the bootloader can still be successfully bypassed by Freegee. Other than that, it offers immense value for money as stated in previous posts. Gorgeous looks and build quality and fast...fast...fast.

[Q] Is this phone worth it?

I'm thinking about picking one up at full retail price since I'm no where near qualifying for an upgrade. Do you guys think it's worth it? I wanted to be sure before I drop $570 (after taxes) for it.

I owned the Sprint Gs2 for 3 weeks. Great performance, no stuttering/lag ANYWHERE unlike on this phone. No lag on home screen even when there is an intensive live wallpaper going on.

Ditto.
There was a noticeable slowdown once there was a live-wallpaper in the background.
I know this because I've personally used the European version of the GS2 and I can definitely tell that despite the higher clockspeeds, there is a slowdown and the occasional stutter. This was not present on the EU GS2 despite having things like live wallpapers.
It could be the case that there is no proper HW Acceleration going on here.
So there's a little lag every now and then? Man, that's disappointing since I figured Samsung would got optimizations down by now. They used the same Qualcomm chip in their hometown Korean Galaxy S II LTE. I guess I better hold off for the Nexus Prime, I just hope it has UMTS 850/1700/1900 all in one like the Tmobile GSII.

The nexus prime is suppose to be using a ti omap processor which is worst than qualcomm and exynos.

I thought the rumors were the Nexus Prime having a 1.5ghz Exynos, with Verizon getting the TI OMAP version for LTE.

OMAP 4 is Cortex A9. TI usually has higher performing processors than qualcomm..
I think it's worth it. With Verizon most likely getting an exclusive on the Nexus for some time, the SGS2 is the best thing on T-Mobile right now. I'm coming from the Nexus S and love this phone. Once we have root and custom ROMs this thing will be even better. That being said, I'll probably dump it and buy the Nexus if/when it comes to Tmo
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I paid full price to hold me over until Nexus Prime arrives, which I will get on 2 year contract discount. I figured that the Prime might cost more at full price than the Hercules when it comes to TMO. The Amaze is even higher than the Hercules now and that clinched it for me.
Also better to have Pure Google phone on contract so you get updates first. I am coming from the Vibrant which has not received a Gingerbread update yet.
It was worth it to upgrade from the Sensation 4G. Total was $279 after selling my old phone. $600 outright is hefty,
The two things that decided it for me was the dual cell HSPA. The Nexus Prime probably won't support this, just HSPA+ 21. Both have AT&T and T-Mobile 3G/4G support so, that also helped me upgrade from the Sensation 4G
I think.its worth every penny. I.just got mine 6 hours ago and I'm amazed (no pun intended) on how the screen looks. Its so bright and the blacks are really black. I love the phone its fast, smooth, downloaded apps in a blink of an eye literally. The only thing is I wish it had a higher resolution. But its nit a deal breaker everything. Is great. Its also super light and thin!
I was very hesitant in getting this cause I only qualified for an early upgrade which took off only about 100 bucks. Why pay over 400 to extend my contract. It was tough on the wallet.
Had it for a full day and I'm glad I did. Came from a MT4G and all I can say is wow. Don't know what all the complaining is about. Guess it all depends on what phone you're coming from.
It does all that I need it to do and more. Mainly use it for work, lots of nav and as a media player. Worth every penny.

Just got mine a couple hours ago off craigslist. 300+ some crappy ps3 games lol.
No box or charger tho. The phone had never been turned on as the battery was still sealed. Pretty good deal imo as im not due for an upgrade til 2013 (thanks sensation) and the early upgrade they gave me would have cost $470 or so. I already registered it with samsung and everything is cherry.
I top out over 10mps here whereas the Sensation only got around 2-3 lol.
100% better phone, forget the qHD.
Worth It
I just paid full price for my device. I don't really mind because I will still have an upgrade in less than a year. Is anyone else getting sick of all the nexus prime chatter? You know people will complain about it once its released. No phone is ever good enough these days. Don't get me wrong, Im sure it will be a nice phone. Im looking forward to getting the SGS2 rooted and CM7 slapped on it. This phone will be solid for some time......
Same here. I paid full price for mines and im not disapointed. Love ever bit of it.
Bought mine at full price. First time I have ever done so. I was going to wait for the Nexus Prime/galaxy or whatever but I got tired of my girlfriend *****ing about how much she hates her Blackberry and that she wanted Android back so I bought the SGS2 and gave her my Mytouch4g with Virtuous Unity and she loves it. Secondary reason were I can actually say I like Touchwiz 4. Im sure there will be root and the next versio of Cyanogenmod at some point so I am happy with my purchase.
I paid full price and i'm not regretting it, seeing how I checked the screen for 15 minutes in a dark backroom before exchanging my Amaze for it.
Beautiful screen runs better than the amaze, just hope my battery life is going to be as good.

How is the Ion?

Heya.
I'm due for an upgrade this week, and am deciding between the Ion and the S3.
The S3 is good and all, but I kind of want to save some money and get the Ion. For the price, the specs are quite nice, even without ICS.
So, how do you like the phone? Is the speaker nice and loud?
I'm coming from my little HTC Aria to one of the two mentioned phones.

Just got the ion after selling my Galaxy Note which is a lot like the Galaxy S3.
I bought unlocked but I think the upgrade price for the ion makes it a no brainer. I mean you can get it for $49 from best buy.
It is a very capable phone. The camera is better at fixed length then the Note, or the Galaxy Skyrocket, or even the iphone 4s. The zoom is not as good however as the Galaxys. Low lighting isa win for the ion.
The speaker is very loud but lacks bass. That is the same on every phone I've ever had though.
The coolest thing for me is the connections. I can hook it up to the tv via hdmi and see all apps. Not just what apple wants me to see like with the iphone tv out. Now if I ever get my ps3 controller to work ill have pretty much a full game console in my phone .
I can't say its the best phone ever and ill probably end up getting another because thats just what I do but imo the ion is as good as there is right now, especially for the price .
the general speaker is not that great. it makes loud enough but not good enough quality sound
phone speaker is almost NOT loud enough, but the voice quality is fine
camera is actually not as good as X10's, but it has much faster shutter/focus speed.
the screen is super clear but kinda yellowish. better check the screen out before you decide buying the ion
don't expect the phone to be completely smooth even though it is smooth enough. it will be solved if we got android 4.1 update
anyways, for a $50 phone, xperia ion is perfect
Ion Rocks
I got mine yesterday for $50 from BB (I also have a HTC One X). I'd say Xperia Ion will get you the most bang for your bucks - seriously!.
An amazing sharp screen, LTE, 1 GB RAM, great camera & design, dedicated HDMI port and a lite nice fluid UI - I can't ask for more from a phone with a $50 price tag.
Well I paid 100 at ATT because I was worried about losing unlimited data going somewhere but still great price for what you get. Screen is amazing. I live the HDMI and with LTE I streamed netflix to my TV with zero buffering screens. I love that I can go anywhere and do that. Also quite the snappy phone with a very nice camera
Sent from my Sony Xperia Ion
My last phone that I had for more than a month was also the Aria (Had the HD2 and then the LG Nitro til I got the Ion) and I'm loving it so far, once I get root it'll be perfect imo.

I don't have unlimited data, but have the 2gb for $25. I want to go to Best Buy, but I fear they might screw up my plan.
Renew contract wont effect phone plan. Just tell the associate you want to keep everything the same. If they cant do it there, they can phone in to Att corp. Let them worry about that, for you feel free to upgrade.

I was able to keep my 200 MB for $15 and my 200 SMS for $5 when upgrading through Best Buy. I saw the salesperson screen, and there was an option to check if the customer wanted to keep their plan. Just make sure it gets checked when you're getting your phone. Also, the salesperson might have to call AT&T, it happened in my case, but it might have been because I have a discount at my school and my account is set as enterprise type.
Get the ion from best buy. It comes with an 8gb sd card and they'll price match Sam's club $40 price. When I played with it in store the speaker was quite loud with xLoud on and the screen is awesome. Not a fan of amoled, just doesn't look right

[Q] Would you recommend to buy this phone? Why or why not?

My brother is looking for an unlocked (no carrier), cheap yet decent android phone, and we saw this one in Amazon for about $195 new, ~$140 used, and as it has a 1,5 Ghz dual core processor, 1GB ram, standard 8MPx camera, good screen size, we are considering to buy it.
But I'd like to know the opinion of people who own it, I've read it has some software issues, but are they still there with cyanogen mod roms? I checked and it has cm10.1, does it work well with it? Help us decide please.
I would never recommend buying any phone for more than $20 or $30. But that's because I'm cheap and the "free" phone are just as good as the expensive ones nowadays.
Anyway, I would say no unless you don't plan on rooting and you buy the extended battery.

I forgot to say that I'm looking for an unlocked phone, since I'm not residing in the US and can't get one of those that are "free" with a contract.
I really like my phone but the battery life isn't that good. With the avatar ROM, wind kernel, and pure performance, I get very little drain while the phone is sleeping. Once I start using WiFi or data, it seems to drain quickly.
Screen is nice, it's light, and has a nice feel.
First, the Nitro for $200 off-contract is GOOD!
You're getting:
Dual-Core 1.5GHz Scorpion
4.5", 720x1280 pixels LCD screen
4g LTE
WiFi and DLNA
Bluetooth 3.0
GPS
Accelerometer
Compass (Hope this isn't something you'd really use, since the Nitro's compass is notorious for being BAD)
The main battery drain on this phone is the kickass screen and LTE. If you're in an area without LTE service and turn it off, that alone will increase the battery longevity by a BIG margin. As for the screen, set the brightness a bit lower when you don't need it and that too will help greatly.
This phone has its' hiccups, but so does any other phone, but for $200 and being off-contract for it, that's a good deal on this phone. I think your Bro would enjoy it.

Even used... Considering that the person selling it most likely got it for around $30 from AT&T or Rogers?
$200 isn't bad, but if you could stretch it to $300 and get a nexus 4 that's what I would do. A lot newer hardware, direct updates from google, and more radio bands supported if you decide to switch to tmobile or one of their mvno's in the future.
Nexus 4 just dropped to $200 today, probably in preparation for the new one in a month or two. I'd definitely go with the nexus for that price.

Just make sure you get one made in Korea, the ones from China are garbage for some reason. So if the seller can verify that would be best. Also the Nexus 4 does not have an lte radio, if that's important. A very similar phone is LG's Optimus G (unlocked for $350) but has lte and 32gb built in (upgradeable) vs 8 or 16gb (not upgradeable) & quad core processor vs dual core. Just something to keep in mind. IMHO for $200 I would stay with the lg nitro. LTE + upgradeable memory, better ui. If that isn't important then stay with the Nexus, as long as its the Korean made and its not the 8 GB model.

AFAIK, Google Play won't sell you phones if you're not a resident of the very few countries were they sell (US, UK, Australia, Spain, etc), but I'll tell him to give it a try, thanks for the heads up. Living on a 3rd world country sucks, btw.

[Q] Buying a HTC One X ?

Hello, I am coming from LG optimus 2x zone. After i brick my o2x (Dropped) I decided to buy a new phone.
I was looking for phones that are worth to buy.
The LG Optimus 4x HD and the HTC One X
What do you think is it worth buying a One X today ? (Since i don't want to buy LG phone again! Support and firmware updates on LG SUCK)
2. Is there something i should know about One X before buying (Other than that it is awesome) ( I had an HTC HD2 it had a hardware problem with touchscreen i ask for something like this) I read about many bugs (Screen WiFi etc etc..) But i don't want to believe what other people say about this phone i want to hear what users says
EDIT: I am thinking to buy this phone! even if there are a few bugs with it
In my opinion this phone is much better than any phone on the market today (Value for money) . This phone isn't just impressive specs written on white piece of papper It does have style it does have soul. Everytime i come accross it on any shop just screams BUY ME BUY ME PLZZ
Yes you should know many things before buying.
1- some models of one x have wifi problem which is hardware issue also confirmed by htc.
2- battery will not lasts more than 3-4 hours(screen on time) no matter which rom you used.
3-Its camera is not in proper in shape in my opinion to keep it on rough surface. Camera lens got many scratches because of that.
4-front facing cam is not so good may be its mine but worse than my previous phone(galaxy s2).
If you can increase your budget buy a hox+ instead because i think as hox was the trial and hox+ was the finished product by htc. I jave not used hox+ so cant say much about that.
but still if you want to buy hox you will definetely not regret other than the battery life.
Because i think if you are putting money on this you must know all the negative points rather than all plus points which are many in hox no doubts.

HTC's Sense interface is so unusual that you have to love it or hate it.
HOX itself is a good phone. As I've understood the WiFi issue is on earlier models. (for example none of the 16gb version should have it).
Battery is a disgrace. Mine only last around 2,5-3 hours screen on time (with AOSP rom). I used to have a Samsung Galaxy Ace some time ago and that ****ty phone could last for more than twice of my HOX.
Some early models did also have some screen tint problem. I think it was the glue between lcd and digitizer. This should also not happen on later models.
As i've understood HOX+ is not that much better (slightly better battery but not much).
But if the options are 4x and HOX then it's a no brainer.. Get the HOX. A friend of mine has the 4x (also Tegra 3) and if I compare the smoothness of stock roms than it seems like HOX is in another league. 4x just lags at everything (did some random test and HTC was a clear winner).
Are there any other phones you like at that price range in your country? (Nexus5 costs around 450$ where i live... and HOX still costs around 400$)

So nexus 4 optimus G and one x (I know many of you will say the nexus 4 ftw but the price difference....it is affordable for me but why do i pay extra for almost same phone... no sense)

All three phones are great but i I were to choose I'd got with the G.. It's got a better CPU, twice the RAM, Bigger battery and LTE...
I'd buy a nexus 4 too. Tegra 3 is less powerful than nexus's snapdragon, it gets hot quite easily and battery life is quite bad.
Moreover HOX probably already got it's last update.
I'm not saying that it is a bad smartphone, i personally love it, sense 5 is great, it has an amazing screen and i'm still happy of my choice, but when i see nexus's smoothness and it's updates i think that it would have been better to buy it, even if it isn't as good looking as my HOX.

Everytime i come accross it on any shop just screams BUY ME BUY ME PLZZ

hey guy i was in EXACTLY the same situation as u. I came from the Tmobile G2x which was promised ICS but LG/NVIDIA/Tmobile didnt deliver.
I have bought the international version, I like it but it does have the wifi problem. I think its a great phone but if ur a guy that likes flashing stuff or needs alot of battery life i wouldnt recommend it. also, it seems like the same kind of situation might happen as what happened with the G2x, cause of tegra 3(from what i have read) its going to be hard to get 4.4 unless we get the official version first. Thus, i would stay clear. I think this kind of situation is negated from the new HTC one but in the s3/HOX/LGOG/N4 generation, the N4/S3 is definately the way to go.
hope this helps, I want peopel to learn from my mistakes
I need the latest software cause thats the geek i am but if ur content with what u have i think this is a great phone.

Ok to be honest i do flash stuff... but the point is if i pay for n4 then i would go for the optimus G if i pay and that i will add little more and i will buy n5
And the difference between the n5 and the G2 isn't that big either... wtf confusing situation i said and i will buy the hox. Here with the help of users and researches on the internet i have seen it's weak points so i won't be buying one with defect (i hope)

lg optimus g is limited in dev. I say if ur limited in budget find a nice used n4. if ur not get an n5. the differences is the LG counterpart usually are limited in dev. Also, I should say, i didnt have the wifi problem for a while until i first dropped it and from then on i got it.
The HOX is a great phone, if i give it to my family they would love it.... idk if its for the techie now tho.
the newer phones HTC ONE/S4/N5 are better in getting updates i think but then they are more expensive

if it wasnt for this stupid wifi problem (Which there is a workaround but it requires opening up the phone. i havent gotten around to it yet) this is a great phone esp the price it is sold at. The one weakness i would say is battery. But again, if ur statisfied with maybe not getting 4.4+ then yeah definately get it

Is it still worth buying a G3?

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading my Nexus 4 to LG G3.
I dont want to spend a lot of cash on cell phones, so considering the prices being reduced, is G3 still a good option? The phones looks absolutely amazing.
the G3 is definitely a very good option especially with the really high quality case with the cover that you can usually get bundled with it. Overall very good phone and I highly recommend it.

Not to mention it's one of the cheapest flagships available, and the camera is great. I bought a Nexus 6, but returned it 24 hours later, there are simply too many features that I immediately knew I would miss on my G3, and the G3 screen was light years better.
Love my G3 had it for a few days now and its great plus when more roms dtart to come out i feel itll be perfect ??

Great phone. Get a spare battery and never worry about battery life!
Just picked up the G3 on AT&T a few days ago after dropping and destroying my Nexus 4. So far its been great. Definitely an upgrade in the screen, camera, and battery department. The battery has been amazing so far plus I picked up a spare battery kit so now I'm never plugged into the wall...something I was used to doing on a daily basis with my N4. My only dilemna with this phone is that it's a carrier branded phone and not stock android. Luckily it's rootable thanks to some awesome devs so removing AT&T bloat is not an issue. As for not being stock android, LG's skin is pretty light with some added features that I actual welcome. A few features that have stood out to me so far are the ability to hide the nav buttons on a per app basis(thanks LG), the unintrusive popup for incoming calls, and doubletap2wake and sleep. Coming from someone in the same situation I would say do it.

Absolutely a great buy! I love mine! I recommend it to anyone looking for a skinned Android. The hardware is great in every way. The screen it top quality, the battery is good, the camera is really good, one of the phones with the most RAM, a up to date processor, and really good build quality considering it is plastic. The only one single hardware issue I have with it is the speaker being on the back. Don't get me wrong, it is a really good speaker. But with the speaker being on the back instead of the bottom or front, it can easily get muffled when laying on it's back. Specifically when it i laying on it's back on a soft surface like a bed. But like I said its still a really good speaker for a back speaker. It is just a very well rounded phone.
Amazing battery life, superb laser focus camera, 2k display consistent dev support. Need I say more?
I had samsung s4 s5 sony z2 and z3 and nexus 5 and htc m8 and iphone 6 for me g3 was the best ..camera very good and the screen awesome and the battery not bad it gives me 5 hours sot.. I didnt try n6 so i cant tell you which one is better
Short answer: Yes
Longer yes: Yes, after dealing with the Nokia Lumia 930, 5 or 6 (now I can't remember) defective Xperia Z2, I'm now on the G3. Very good phone. Battery life FAR Superior than the Lumia, and just right below the Z2. Considering it's handling a larger screen and a higher pixel screen, I'd say it's awesome. I am a light user with about 1-2 hours of SOT a day and I go home with 65-70% every day. So it can get me through a day SOOOOO easily! Highly recommended. Camera is great, I have the 32GB/3GB version and I don't have lags. But as I mentioned before, I'm a light user. I only use my phone for pictures, bittorrent sync (folders between desktops and such), and messaging (Line, Whatsapp, Email, Forums). That's it. I know, the device is overkill for my usage, but still! I'm very happy . I'd recommend it over any other phone. The only device I could possibly recommend more is the Nexus 6 or the Note 4. I don't like Samsung's cartoony UI. And the N6 is REALLY expensive! It's 700 euros while the G3 was 450 euros when I got it. So, I can't complain!

Do you own a mobile shop ? Well i think giving one phone out of all the above mentioned, wont make much of a difference to u ..
Does 32 gb make a difference compared to the 16gb, keeping in mind the extra 1gb ram in 32 gb version? Also the quick circle case - is this a must have accessory for G3?
Yeah!! I just bought my g3 two weeks ago, i had a oneplus before i purchased this. It feels similar to the 1+ but with the g3 the screen is better, it has a removable battery, micro sd slot and its cheap compared to some of the other flagships. Id recommend getting it

In the benchmarks the difference is very tiny. My mate has a 16gb version with 2gb and compared to my 32gb, and when youre actually using the phones side by side the different isnt even noticeable. The 16gb is also at least £30 cheaper here in the uk.
...
The phone is awesome! It's as powerful (and beautiful) as phones much more expensive than this. It's a shame that AOSP is not well supported yet, but the power and performance of AOSP can be acheived on LG's own rom if you know how to tweak android, both in performance and looks.
This is the best phone ever and I came from Nexus 5

I believe the biggest difference is when you multitask - redraws on the screen, how many apps can be left open without having to hibernate them (the system of course), wtc.
Regardless, I believe 3GB ram will future-proof it as much as possible. It has a good camera, 3GB of RAM in my version, as well as a nice screen. I think it will be a relevant phone for at least a year or two. But as with everything in the tech world... These things get outdated rather quickly.
If you're worried about buying a device that would last you for years and years (with updates I mean), maybe the Nexus 6 would be best as it will be covered for a WHILE by Google. It's absolutely the most advanced HW (processor, memory, screen) so it will be updated for a while!
If you want a G3 now, get it right now. Thanks to the open sourcing efforts of someone, LG's likely to close down the bootloader exploit in the next couple of days.
Unless you like your freedom restricted, in which case, buy a G3 whenever you want.
A very good buy the only phone in my opinion would be the note 4 to actually consider, with that said it also is the easiest root and boot right now with great support from the developers, hands down top three phone until next summer when we'll be asking each other the same question.
The upgrade from the Nexus 4 to the G3 is worth it in every way. I've had my G3 for several months now and it is a great phone.
Yes
Yes I would definitely recommend this phone for a number of reasons:
Overall screen size
Highest % of front face used by screen
4K display
Battery life (I dont do gaming)
Cannot recommend more highly
However, at the end of the day each phone has its advantages and plus points and drawbacks and you need to align your requirements with these stregnths.
