Bootanimation.zip caused bootloop - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, I've stuffed up my LG G3 with a boot animation for a phone with the same resolution. I replaced the stock boot image (hidden in data/) and rebooted, the animation plays great! over and over and over. The original bootanimation zip is still in that folder as bootanimation.zip.orig.
Is there any way of fixing this without reflashing? I'm currently using an Optus/Virgin Mobile branded LG G3.

Flash using normal flash not CSE. Should hopefully fix it. Don't replace boot image. If you want to change the boot animation you just need to replace the bootanimation.zip with the one you want.

Hi, Thanks for the speedy reply, can you elaborate on what you mean by "Normal flash"? As for the boot animation, dont worry, if I can recover my phone I wont be doing any tinkering again without fully understanding what I'm doing lol.
I'd also like to point out that I stupidly, didnt install a custom recovery before doing this. any help would be appreciated.

Using LG flash Tool, select the KDZ file you want to flash then select normal flash as in the picture.
Hope this helps.

Thank you, I will try that tonight.

Nah, didnt work. It cant even register that my phone is connected to the PC. even in download mode

Reflash your ROM?
Also are you sure it doesn't boot up? Or maybe it's just not showing the animation?

after the google image, my phone doesn't show me anything just a black screen, but after 30 seconds i press the power button i can see the crt tv animation like if you lock your gnex, but my gnex doesnt show anything, i can only boot it into cwm or recovery, can't get into android
now im trying to flash google factory image through gnex toolkit, since you can flash google factory image using it, is it gonna work ?

gnex doesn't have sd card slot, don't you remember ?
problem solved i was able to flash google factory image using gnex toolkit, that being said, all my data is lost now
That wasnt really necessasry. You could've transfered the ROM with adb push commands. I advice you to keep a version of your ROM on your SD card so you dont run into this problem again.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
A factory reset will do too if you put it in /data/local.. At least you save your SDcard.
You could have created a update.zip file to change the bootanimation so the phone could boot normaly

Phone won't turn on after flashing.

Last week I rooted my Galaxy S3 using Odin and today I went as far as to unlock the boot and flash the phone to use a custom boot image. Unlocking the boot was fine and flashing it with Flashify using a TWRP IMG file until it asked to reboot. When it turned off it didn't boot back and I have tried removing the battery. the SD card and putting it back and it did nothing.
I honestly didn't check if this has happened to someone else in the forums because most of the times I come here its a hassle to find the right thread so if someone has already posted a solution please link me or if not any other kind of help will be welcomed.
What do you mean unlock the boot? And a boot image is not the image you see at boot if that's what you thought. A boot.img is part of the kernel. What were you trying to do? What file did you use?
Do you mean you unlocked the bootloader? The sprint s3 isn't locked. I can't figure what you're talking about.

sorry for the late reply...
I was trying to install a custom boot animation and the instructions I found where to install an app called Quickboot to make a TWRP recovery back up of the ROM to be modified in case an error happened and I had to go back to the previous setting. After I did that the app required the phone to restart to apply the changes, it turned off it never turned on after that up to this day.

If you want boot animation change, DO NOT install a boot image. Not the same thing. Boot image is part of the kernel (boot.img and ramdisk). For a boot animation, you need either a custom binary, or be using a rom that supports custom boot animations.
Did you make a full backup in twrp first? You can restore your backup.

Zenfone 2 Boot Animation issues

So I love everything about the zenfone 2 4GB version now my question is there a fix for the boot animation or? don't get me wrong I like the default one but if I use a custom one you still see the Asus start up animation is this a 5.0 memory leak issue? or?
I see , you are not getting custom boot animation applied...right?
Are you flashing it right? It should go to /system/media with proper updater script.

No I am flashing it right and it does work the question I am wondering is this a bug? because it plays default asus logo before the custom Animation Because I know most phones I have owned has never had 2 different animations at startup
Yes.. never seen like this. I have had tried myself a lot of bootanimations... after the splash...it goes straight to custom boot animation.

do you know if there is a way to remove or edit the splash? I am just wondering.
I didn't unpack the splash.img yet.... just fastboot flashed a original one after unlocking boot loader.
I know there is a way to edit it cause I did flash custom splash to my tab earlier. I will get back to you on that.

Asus Logo box error after flash custom rom

Hello,
1st of all i am newbie in here. Yesterday I have gotten into a really strange problem, Searched the internet and this forum also, didn't find any similar kind of problem anywhere. Please help if you can.
For somedays I was using Unofficial CyanogenMod 12.1 Nightly for my zenfone 2 ze551ml. Yesterday I installed Bliss v6.0 for Zenfone 2 using twrp. Before installing bliss v6.0, I made a backup using twrp and did full wipe. but having some error with the bliss rom I tried to go back to cyanogenMod 12.1 using restore from twrp.I also did a full wipe before restore cm12.1. Somehow it didnot restore propoerly and my phone got softbricked.
After that I tried to fresh install the cm12.1 using the zip file. But I couldn't enter into the twrp. When I tried to go to the recovery, my phone just rebooted everytime and took me into the fastboot menu. Also when the phone starts, there is a4 colored box instead of Asus animated logo.
I had to install the twrp again using my computer to enter into the custom recovery mode. After that I did a clean install of CyanogenMod 12.1 and it worked. Right now my phone is working well but whenever I tried to start the phone or reboot it, at the boot menu before showing cyanogenMod logo, the 4 colored box was there, where before the Asus animated logo was showing. I took some picture of it for your better understanding but as this my first post here, neither I found the picture upload option, nor xda let my post image hosting link. If you know how to fix the problem, please help me. I am kind of worried of this problem.
Regards.
It's not a problem, a rom has overwritten the boot screen.
Not sure how you'll fix it unless you try the way you fix the white bootscreen after unlocking your bootloader but not sure if there was another screen before this...

Aside to go back to stock I don't know where you will find it.
If you do go back to stock it will put everything back as it was then you could reflash another custom rom, just be aware though you might have to start from scratch with a factory reset...

Should do as it overwrites everything... Just remember though that you will need to factory reset or you'll have LOT'S of errors...

Here's the bootanimation just place it in
/system/media folder and you will have the factory animation again.
Note: (root required) make sure the file name stays the same. You can rename your old boot animation to bootanimation1.zip if you want to keep it and make sure you got the permissions set to rw- r-- r-- on the new bootanination.zip

LG G4 - Boot problem - Download mode works

Hi,
I have problem with my LG G4 (H815). I has stacked at boot screen and sometimes it is able to boot to home screen but after a few second of work, it restarts again. Few days ago the situation was the same but after a few attempts it booted normally. I can normally enter recovery mode and download mode.
Has anyone idea what to do to recover data (photos) from it?
I will probably try to flash stock firmware via LG Tool but I don't know which version is now installed and I cannot find a proper kdz file.
Can anyone help to find a proper kdz file for this phone? and give a link to quide how to flash phone without wipe data?

I don't have TWRP installed. If I have and access to download mode and stock recovery, is there any method that let me install TWRP to recovery data, if I can't boot to home screen?

o when you mentioned recovery i wasnt expecting the stock recovery.. so does your phone boot.? does it have the infamous bootloop when you see logo and it reboots again into a bootloop sometimes optimizing apps then reboots..?
if so i think the only way to recover data its to use the freezer method.. search for it... sorry
if its bootloop then its hardware and needs to be sent to LG just make sure the moisture strips arent allow to get losit or water.
is there any way to force bootloop???? with a kdz file or changing something with root permision ??? i need to send my phone to the SAT

You need to have an unlocked bootloader to do so.
What are the first 3 digits of your serial number (sticker behind battery)
If it starts with 5xx your chances are good to have the boot loop issue which is hardware related.
Try the freezer method to recover and send the device to LG for replacement.
