[Q] SM-T217T Roms question - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why cant I seem to find any custom roms for my t mobile samsung galaxy tab 3 7.0 t217t? Theres piles of them for every other model...
I havent only searched xda, I coured the web for roms or any leads to rom development for my specific device model, I still have no leads so I decided why not pop the question in case someone else needs an answer like me.
Is there any specific reason why there are no roms for the tmobile galaxy tab 3 7"? (SM-T217T).

Could i at leastget a yes or no? Its been a few days. The tab charges really slow with airplane mode on, and when the tab itself is off and on the wall charger that came with it. And with 4g on, it only decreases the discharge rate. Just while writing this it went down 1%. It is not plugged right now as i am not home.
I guess all i really want is a kernel (or rom, unless they are the same thing) that allows fast charge.

Frustrated with 4.3, thinking of downgrading

So I flashed the latest and "greatest" Android 4.3 on my Galaxy Nexus. After all, this is why we get our nexus devices for, right -- getting the latest updates without begging cell phone vendors or carriers. But Android 4.3 on Galaxy Nexus is driving me nuts -- A full charge won't last me for half a day without much usage at all. The phone intermittently wakes up and won't go back to sleep again, and after I press the power button to put it to stand by, it wakes up a few seconds later. Granted, it's not like that all the time, but it's often enough to be annoying and it's eating the battery alive. Before you ask, yes, I did do a clean install with root.
Very frustrated with this update, and come to think of it, the Android updates of late have not been stellar -- I experienced system random restart when 4.2 hits, and now this...
Sorry for the ranting but I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced similar problems. I googled around and there's an reported issue of Galaxy Nexus battery drain but given the discussion on there I don't think Google is going to dedicate any resource to fixing that.
Which JB point release do you guys think is the best for Galaxy Nexus?
Maybe battery life is not the best one, but you should let the phone settle some days.
The wakening problem is not 4.3 related. Indeed maybe its a usb port/pin problem.

Same here. Been downgrade to 4.2.2 after frustrate with 4.3 battery. Full charge at morning and low battery arround 5pm. 4.2.2 with 4.3 features also drain battery alot. Now I'm running on TeamEOS 4.2.2
Turn of mobile and network location in location settings and try it for a day

Have you narrowed out that it's none of the apps causing issues?

As personal experience, much of what you describe did happened to me some time ago and it was cause for some apps that were not optimized for the newer Android API version.
That said, you could try boot into Safe Mode (keep pressed the "Turn Off" at the shutdown screen) and see if keep happening the issues you describe
Use Wakelock Detector app to identify what's draining your battery unusually..
Way ahead of you, I need my tethering.

The waking of the phone is most likely caused by a USB malfunction. 4.3 isn't great because Verizon hasn't updated the Nexus radios so the signal is very bad. It goes from LTE to 3g to no signal and back. It does this so ,much that the battery takes a big hit. Find a ROM where you can turn on and off LTE, that should improve your battery.

The battery drain is because of "always searching for nearby wifi" option
Just disable it ...

ive been happy with 4.3 on my VZW Gnex except for constantly having data issues. i downloaded a couple 4.2 roms again to see if they help any. I'm guessing it's because VZW doesn't officially have 4.3 on the Gnex which is why we are seeing data problems. I don't know specifics, maybe binary problems, i dunno. All i do know is it's annoying. I can't even stream iheartradio or pandora at work without it constantly cutting out. then i'll lose data all together and have to reboot the phone to get it back.

I just had this exact problem and spent a day working on it. It actually has nothing to do with android 4.3; its actually the usb port on the phone, as stated a bit earlier in this thread. More specifically, the pin inside the port is likely shorting with the outer surface of the port, due to it bending slightly. This causes the phone to have funky voltages being detected at the port, and results in the phone behaving as you described (the waking up when the screen is off is actually it thinking its going into charging mode). There are two things to do to fix it. Firstly, take some compressed air and thoroughly clean the port out. Dust that accumulates in the port can cause problems like this, and blowing it out is a relatively simple task. If that doesn't work, the next thing to do is to bend the pin up a bit. Note that this requires you to be a bit gentle, but is not overly difficult. Turn the phone off and remove the battery first, then wedge a very small flat head screwdriver between the pin and the bottom of the port. Very gently apply a bit of pressure, just to bend it up a bit. This doesn't need to be by a lot, in fact when i did it, i could only barely even see a physical difference. Put the battery back in and power the phone back up, and see if it was enough. It fixed all my problems when I did it a week ago.
Don't know what seems to be the problem here
Lasts me 1.5 days with 4hrs On Screen Time Every Time
Don't blame 4.3 if it's an app messing with your battery life
Thanks everyone for chiming in. Here's an update. I uninstalled Go battery widget and now the battery lasts longer. Not as long as I had hoped but better. I installed wakelock detector (thanks for suggesting it) after I uninstalled Go battery widget so I don't have the evidence to prove that Go battery widget is the culprit but the phone seems to be running better now. I also haven't experienced any random wake ups.
Would the data issues more likely be a factor of radio, rather than ROM?

Why do that when you can complain on a new thread on xda?! 4.3 sucks because crappy Go apps create wakelocks!

I had the same issues with battery life when I upgraded to 4.3. However, I largely attribute that to T-Mobile's horrible reception in College Station, TX. I used PA, CM10, Purity, Avatar, and a few others but the battery life and performance was not respectable even though they claimed the contrary. This phone is reaching its the end of its product life and no matter how many "optimizations" go under the hood, the hardware is just not apt for ROMs designed for higher end phones.
In the end, I flashed a stock rooted ROM, no more "optimizations", "tweaks", or "improvements"...just a clean ROM. Granted, I in no way mean to offend any developer and their hard work but my experiences with their ROMs left a bitter feeling towards them.
Battery life improved significantly. What used to be 100% to 30% in 8-9 hours turned into 100%-50% in 14 hours. Do keep in mind I'm not a power user. My phone serves as a music player for my ~1 hr commute from and to school, occasional text messages, random redditing, and the random news article before class. In all, I average a little under 2 hours screen time before I deplete the battery to 5-10%.
It's also important to use the appropriate radio for your market.
TL;DR - Try stock and a different radio.
Kernel
I have always seen major differences between Kernels and attributed the majority of battery life to that. Some kernels just work better than others. For example, I know that TONS of people love Franco's kernel, but on my phone battery life is terrible on it. Personally, I like Golden and it seems to really improve battery life.
Same here. I've been having constant data issues with 4.3. So much so that I've just lock myself to 3G and so far, that's been good. 3G->4G or back doesn't work half the time and requires either toggling airplane mode on and off, or rebooting the phone outright.
Going to have to agree. I have VZW and all the 4.3 ROM's I've tried have been less than impressive. I obviously appreciate the dev's work but nothing i've tried is ready to be my DD

[Q] Possible inscresing battery life & performance?

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum , my first thread here , so be nice , etc.
My first touch phone was a Samsung Galaxy SII back in 2011, that the phone was working perfectly until I saw all the themes on the web , downgrades , upgrades and such. I accidentally kill my unit twice, So I had to file it for $ 35 I think. Today, I can not charge it at all, in the hole where you insert the end of the charger for it to start charging , where loose it. It may fall out out cell phone at any time , so it 's no use I use ODIN anymore.
The third time I killed my Galaxy S2 I bought the Galaxy Nexus the day after, I was so happy, it's the theme I always wanted and blah blah.
But after almost 7-8 months, it slowly ........... Slow responding when typing , slow to open applications , lagging on any games that should not be .
So I decided to downgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.5 for maximum longevity takes less on device performance.
BUT ! I do not do it directly on my Nexus , since I dont want to take the risk to kill it, so I wanted to downgrade my galaxy S2 from 4.1.2 to 2.3.5 , becase I do not even care about the phone.
And my galaxy lose few perfect for a few minutes without using it , so the charge would be pointless .
My GF also has her own GS2 , and we charge my battery with hers phone that way.
now days i dont care about the theme or design, just a performance, and the delay is my enemy.
But any idea?
My nexus is really slow, and I want to increase the battery life ..
And i am not sure that i want to do a wipe data, wipe cache..
And i have another question, on my galaxy, i have no fastboot, how can i install it? I've doing huge research and stuff, if anyone know alot of this stuff, phones, firmwires and such, please, could we take this private @ skype or anything you like.
my skype is muspru @Skype
Beucase i can have my help much easier from there.
I am having a headache trying to read your thread....
So what exactly are you trying to do? downgrade gnex to GB?
if thats what you are trying to do, i would recommend against it, the phone come with ICS, and you can upgrade it to 4.3 via OTA, it is MUCH faster than ICS judging from personal experience.
If you want to save battery, simply flash a custom kernel and UC/UV it, i didnt even UC/UV, using fancy kernel / CM 10.2 rom, and my battery doesnt even take a hit when idling, unplug 7am everyday, and i have around 100-99% around noon.

How are your device doing ?

Hello my friends, I've been a user of this tablet since 2014 and i came to the point that im done with it. So i made this thread because im curious how are you guys out there holding up with yer Notes 10.1 too. Here are my current issues :
Every time i flash something its a time to pray a lot, lots of force closes. Even if i flash a factory image in odin and then flash a rom the odds are of a lot of trouble coming, you wont believe how many times FireFox died today on the same page.
TWRP is a no go for me. I usually can successfully restore a backup on a 1/5 ratio and since a wrongly restored backup ends sealing the death of the current installed rom its easier to just wipe everything and start from the scratch again.
I was in such a shock after rooting my Motorola Droid Turbo, because it didn't blow up or something. The Samsung knoxx software is just troublesome. I didn't wanted to switch to CM13 because of dead camera and some other bugs. But hey that's what has been happening to me, how are yours tab holding up guys? Mine is p601 by the way, maybe the other models are doing better.:silly:
Hmm, probably you just have a defective device?
I have a second hand P600, the WiFi model, been using it for over a year without much hindrance, and I average over 8 hours of screen time over 4 to 5 days of usage. 9 to 10 hours if used for continuous web browsing. The only problem is the WiFi antenna/driver might be buggered somewhere, because like once every couple of months it would completely forget a previously used WiFi point, like literally cannot even see the SSID listed on the WiFi screen, and the only solution is to either change the frequency of the point from 2.4 Ghz to 5 Ghz, and if that didn't work, to completely flash a new ROM. Luckily that only happened once, and just before I flashed a new ROM for unrelated reasons.
Regarding the modding part, I've flashed lots of ROMs and kernels, and the only significant problem is from running xluco's kernel, absolutely nothing wrong with that one other than the frequent restart due to some S Pen problem. The device would randomly restart itself at any moment the S Pen is used, and the fix that was provided by him in his thread didn't do much to change this. I suspect each S Pen model is different though, I used the larger type that Samsung provided for the older Note 10 model, it runs smooth under completely stock Lollipop ROM, but crashes the device frequently if I use either Xluco's kernel, or the 4.4.2 Hyperdrive ROM.
TWRP works ok for me, and I have never suffered any app closing issue. Anything more you'd like to ask?
I'm running ZakooZ CM13, customized Valex Kernel flashed via TWRP. This baby flys! No problems with Spen either. Stable and Fast! Oh, the camera works as well!

Ye i have the same feeling, i was very confused since we don't see many roms wandering around the 2014 forum, its pretty different from my experience with the Galaxy SII for example. I think it all started back when i tried to change the partition to F2FS, had some troubles with SD card too (multiples mount/dismount) all the info i managed to find was to buy a Samsung SD card instead of using another brand. Most of the CM roms worked ok before flashing GAPPS. Anyway i formatted the SD again and tried to flash pcparaamigos rom and for my surprise it did work (I've always been struck on the "extracting system" on some roms), maybe it was an issue related to the SD card slot since im now using the internal partition to flash roms and do backups, gonna need to run more tests, or i got lucky i dunno, sometimes i get the feeling that my device is a living being or something.
I found also hard to find a new replacement for this tablet, one which has better specs overall, not many 10.1+ screen tablets around and gsmarena doesn't tell if they have Pen support or something, just specs. In the end it feels like this tablet have a lot of potential but $am$ung just forgot about its existence.

Not well. I think the device is on it's last legs.
Battery life is beyond terrible, and I even replaced it with a new OEM battery. It was fine for about a week, but it is doing the 30% to 0% within 5 minutes trick again. I wonder if a sensor is out of calibration or is failing? Also, the thing lags beyond belief. Even after a fresh factory reset with no apps installed, it can barely render a webpage without bogging down.
I will end up replacing it; just not sure with what yet. Perhaps a Chromebook that flips between laptop and tablet or another plain 9.7" tablet.

I had the same issue on the Galaxy SII, a reboot was like 10% of battery per reboot I have my eyes on the Lenovo yoga book or the Yoga Tab 3 Plus, dunno about the projector version, the microcrap surface looks like an interesting device but windows 10 is such a let down. I don't wanna buy another Samsung device because knoxx and update issues.

Have you tried battery calibration software? There's this new tweak app released on the Play Store, it's called HEBF Optimizer, has a pretty romantic design and philosophy for that one. Anyways you need to be rooted first, and there's an option within there to calibrate the battery, but make sure you do it while being charged and the battery is at 100% first. Also, perhaps try flashing a new ROM, maybe an AOSP one? I've flashed lots of stuff on my tablet and I've yet to experience any noticeable, prolonged lagging.

There's a new Huawei tablet, it's called the Huawei Matebook 10, that one has an Android version which comes with a wacom digitizer too.

I haven't checked the device personally so I can't say more, since it looks like not many regions has it available for purchase. There's also the Thinkpad Tablet 2, but that one is aging already and uses only Windows.

Not that I'm aware of.
Edit: heres a quote from another site
"S Note, Action Memo, Screen write(Air command) etc do not work(read about touchwiz if you want to know more on this).
Replacement Apps exist in the Google play store that use some of SPen's functionality -
"CM S Pen Add-on (Root)" with "Note Buddy(Spent helper)" give you a functuonality similar to the stock Samsung's "air command"(that popup that show when you detach your pen)."
I use both of these apps and they function great for what I need.

Thank yo for your help. I'm in a middle of a lot of reading and compiling texts, so this might be my door to the 6.0.1 world
Mine still works pretty fine ... except the touchscreen ... sometimes very randomly it doesn't react to touch any longer only the spen works in those situations.
A quick on off fixes it.
I'm going to replace the battery soon and while i have it open i am going to check the cable.
Mine's still doin ok. On a 1 - 10 scale I'd say mines operating at a 7. The only issue I've ever had is with the battery. After the original battery failed competely I replaced it with an aftermarket one. It was a great improvement over the original battery, but it also brought its own set of issues. Many of the aftermarket batteries for these don't handle heavy loads well, leading to a sudden shutdown. I've reduced my CPU output to remedy this so now it rarely shutsdown under heavier loads. Other than that, I still love mine. No twrp issues, no problems when I flash anything (which I do regularly). Currently running OrionOS Marshmallow, which is a great ROM. All in all, still a great tablet that I have subjected to heavy daily use since it was new and continue to use heavily every single day.
Mine is still fine. I think a lot of the problems come from not using a case with a rigid back. Pressure on the Note's back could lead to the loosening of the connection of the cables running across the battery(display, backlight, touchscreen, usb).
And the plugs of most aftermarket batteries seemingly don't fit properly. So you'd have to reuse the original battery's plug by soldering it to the wires of the new battery. Probably the pins of the plugs can be unpinned with a needle (that works with DIL plugs) and the pins of the new battery fit into the old plug.
Then there's the thing with the bubbles under the screen. This seems to be caused by strong pressure on the capacitive buttons or comes from the closed lid of certain cases, i don't have that problem myself(my Note is from Nov '13).

Battery drain

I just got a used AT&T S III and have a Lifewire (better known as Obamaphone) account. I'm 78 Yrs old and don't make a lot of calls, so the phone will spend most of its time on standby. I also have a Tab A 2016 tablet and an AT&T K88 7" tablet, so the S III isn't needed for anything but phone calls. I keep the wifi off unless the phone is on the charger. So, my only question is, is there anything I can do to improve the battery drain while on standby other than the normal "de-bloating" by disabling unused apps? May be the condition of the battery on a used phone, but it lost 20% charge overnight.
Currently running stock 4.4.2
BTW, I have flashed many ROMs and TWRP on tablets but never on a phone. Don't know what flashing would do to my Lifewire account.

Overheating and rapid download

good guys I am new in this community, I am Venezuelan and I have the following problem with my galaxy s2 t989 my phone is downloaded very fast using it lasts about 2 hours as much?
and it tends to get too hot to the point of not wanting to touch it
when wanting to charge it on the phone also heats up and starts to download instead of charging ...
the phone when I connect it off to the charger tends to turn on by itself and I have to disconnect it and connect it several times until the battery comes out that indicates that it is charging off without problems
I need help urgently please I love this phone but I can not enjoy it
I have already tested Android 2.3.6 by odin also 4.1.2 by odin and nothing official rom all.
I have never installed 4.4, 4.0.4.5.0.5.1, etc ... :llorando::llorando::llorando::llorando:
I'm sorry for my English grief: eek:
