Is anyone else having this issue? The device fails to receive notifications from Gmail, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. until I turn on the screen and unlock the phone. I'm currently connected to Wifi. There's a lot of crap apps that I disabled, so maybe that could be the culprit? Perhaps I disabled a necessary one on accident? Maybe there's a bloatware app that's disabling my Wifi? I haven't changed any Wifi settings and I don't see any noticeable culprit in the settings menu. Either way, here's the list of my disabled apps.

When you say not receiving, is it not notifying you until you wake it up, or is the notification icon there, it just doesn't play a sound?

It's legitimately not receiving any notifications after until I wake it up.
I give up.
I've tried everything at this point. I reset the phone twice. I monitored it on both Wifi and Cellular data. I monitored as many stock apps as I could. Something is stopping the damn phone from receiving data while it's asleep and I have no clue what the hell it is. I've scoured the settings menu countless times as well. Seeing how there's no replies, I'm just assuming that I'm the only person with this issue. I might have to just exchange the phone because I'm starting to believe that it's a hardware problem. Doesn't seem like it really, but damn this is annoying.

Have the same problem. Chatted with 2 people at Samsung, both useless.
The first person told me that "you will receive only notifications for text messages and call logs on the lock screen". I told her there should be a tiny icon near carrier name...
The 2nd person suggested I contact AT&T.
Like to know if anyone has more info regarding this issue.
possible solution
I have experienced same issue particularly with hangouts for me. From the brief searching I did about this I found it seems a common issue with Android lately and also saw an app suggested called pnf--push notification fixer. I have tried it and seems to do the trick. Something you may find helpful. Root and non root versions in play store.
Google was down this morning. Hangouts, and gmail wetter effected. It should be back up and working now. You may have also experienced they Google Play Services crashing.

Hi everybody - Searched all over, haven't seen any info on this issue. I apologize if I missed something
Recently, some apps I disabled on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus have begun to automatically reenable themselves after every reboot. The specific apps are Google Books, Google Earth, and Videos.
This did not used to happen. Further, my other disabled apps (the VZ apps, News and Weather, Movie Studio, etc.) stay disabled just like they are supposed to.
I'm not sure exactly when it started happening, so I can't pinpoint any changes or apps that might have caused the issue. If it matters, I'm not rooted.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - the ability to disable unused apps was one of the reasons I got the phone. Thank you!
Update
Quick update. After I found my device would not complete a factory reset successfully, I contacted Verizon for a replacement. The replacement device factory resets successfully, unlike my first.
However, after setting up the new device I found that it too has the exact same problem with disabled apps. Google Books, Google Earth, and Videos (but no other disabled apps) all reenable themselves after every reboot. I noticed this before installing any apps or tweaking any settings. It seems there is a problem with these particular apps or in the way the are treated by ICS.
Either way, it's a shame that this major advertising point for the device does not function as advertised.
Interesting. I was wondering why I was seeing updates available for Earth and Video in the Market, seeing as how I had disabled them...
fyi I suspect it's a Verizon thing - I have both disabled and they're staying that way.
Thanks Clancy_s for the info. That's an interesting possibility.
It's also interesting to me that I haven't been able to find much chatter about this. I've posted the issue here, on the Google Mobile help forum, and on the Android Project Issues list (after searching each for previous mentions), and haven't heard much back.
I'm wondering how sporadic the issue might be, or if it might be connected to certain types of accounts since I've seen it on two phones now. I realize it's not a critical issue, but I've certainly seen a lot more concern on Android forums for less.
Just received my 3rd device (original plus 2 replacements, first 2 sent back due to other problems besides this one). The same problem with disabled apps reenabling themselves after a reboot persists. And this is after a factory reset, without adding any apps, changing any settings, without being backed up to my google account, without location services on. Same apps - Google Books, Google Earth, Videos. No other apps affected.
I'm having this problem as well. I disabled Google+, but it becomes enabled again after a reboot. VZ Backup Assistant and Google Talk stay disabled as they should.
Google earth did this for me also, so I just deleted the app. Of course you need root to do it.

Same problem with Maps
Title says it all. Really annoying.
Sigh... you're not alone. I disabled the Google search bar and after awhile the phone will automatically reenable anything that was disabled.

Reset app preferences! Any fixes for these issues?? Have cleared cache partition,. got 2 new sim cards to no avail. Randomly mine n my husbands phones go straight to vm without ringing or showing missed calls!! Same for my son in another state. Cust svc is no help. Have cleared app preferences multi times. Anyone else with these issues?! Any help appreciated.
I had that on mine when I was running 4.3, but only with wifi calling. first random incoming calls, then all incoming calls would go straight into voice mail and then I couldn't even call out on wifi. Temporary solution was to change preferences to cellular calling from wifi calling. Then I updated to 4.4.2 (nf4) and its fixed now and it works fine with wifi calling and all. I suspected t-mo made some changes in their server software and either accidently or on purpose never tested properly with older firmware, introducing some bug, but feel free to call it wrong guess. The reason I suspected problem was on their side, was that I have not updated or changed my phone at all, since before problem started and installed probably only 1 new program, which later I deleted it as first suspect, but deleting it didn't fix the problem at all.
Did you ever install google voice? I was having similar problems because I had installed google voice, then removed it, thinking everything would be fine. It turns out you need to change something on your Google account also. There was a previous thread about google voice.
No google voice in my case. The program I installed I think it's called Wechat for text, voice and video calls over internet. I deleted it after my family came back from overseas vacation since no longer needed, but that didn't fix wifi calling until firmware update. Could have been some settings got messed up and weren't restored until update.

I reflashed firmware from SamMobile. Appears to be working better. Difficult to tell 100% yet. Appears the app prefernce requests are no longer an issue.
Hey guys, about two weeks ago I was wondering why my mom hadn't called (we use Hangouts) and I thought it was weird. It was only until she called my cell phone that I realized that Hangouts wasn't working at all (even though it was open in the background).
I always used to get the call sound and the notification tray flashed saying that I was getting a video call. Same thing for messages (not SMS), even if I hadn't opened Hangouts all day at all, I would still receive SMS and video call invites. I accidentally Greenified Google Voice (since you can't Greenify Hangouts) and I thought that might be the culprit, so I degreenified it, and restarted my phone. That didn't work. I also Disabled a whole bunch of useless apks (or so I thought) with NoBloat and I'm pretty sure it was around this time that Hangouts stopped working and incidentally also any alarm app that I tried to use (I have to use stock alarm now). I re-enabled all of the disabled apks, and restarted my phone once again. This also did not work.
I have also posted on the official Google Hangouts Help forum about this issue. I have gone back on any changes I made that might have caused this issue. Google Voice is not greenified anymore, and I don't have ANY apks disabled at all. I even turned ChatOn back on thinking that maybe that was why.
Here is a list of things that I have already done that I have found on other forums:
Clear cache/data of Hangouts and Google Voice
Make sure Show Notifications is checked (it is).
I have uninstalled Hangouts updates, and reinstalled them.
I have restarted my phone numerous times.
I've shut off my laptop, tablets, and desktop so it would HAVE to go through my phone. It didn't.
"Whitelisted" Google Voice and Hangouts on any application that could possibly be closing it.
I have a SG S3 SGH-T999 T-Mobile (Unlocked) with baseband version T999UVUENC2. I don't remember how exactly I rooted my phone but I just know it's rooted. I'm on 4.3 and I have been for ages. It kind of feels like, even if I physically open Hangouts it's hard for any application to recognize that's it's running in the background, and in fact, some applications don't recognize it at all even if I just opened Hangouts.
I swear that every single apk I disabled was inconsequential, I disabled them off all those lists floating around for the S3 that say what that specific apk does, and if it's save to remove it. I didn't touch the red "nono" apks at all. The guy from Google just told me that Google Voice has nothing to do with Hangouts, so the fact that I Greenified Google Voice has nothing to do with Hangouts and wouldn't cause problems. I've tried everything the guy has told me to try but nothing has worked so far. Every other app is fine, there are no problems, besides Hangouts and any alarm app I install.
I don't know what's wrong, does anyone have a similar problem?
Thanks.
Try clearing data for all Google apps, especially GMS ones and gmail. Then reboot and set everything back up. If that doesn't help, back up all important data, including your internal SD. Then factory reset.

Has anyone experienced problems with some notifications? Just recently I stopped receiving push notifications for both Hangouts and Whatsapp? My messages only appear when I enter the app. I've even cleared the app data for Hangouts, uninstalled, reinstalled, and it solved the problem but only temporarily. I can't determine if it's a phone, marshmallow, or app issue. This is my first time on marshmallow and I've never experienced this before coming from KitKat on my HTC M8.
I've had the same issue since updating the OS software last week. Any help on this would be much appreciated. I'm not receiving push notifications for any apps anymore. All settings are turned on to receive them. I've even downloaded an app to push the notifications and it doesn't work.
Are you sure DND mode is not active?
Absolutely positive.
I managed to fix it through a whatsapp forum about not receiving push notification for that particular app. Hopefully this helps the OP.
When I got my phone I restricted background data on google services because it used 10gb of data within a 10 minute period of turning on my phone, mostly coming from that. For the first 2 months I was still getting push notifications for all my apps, but with the most recent OS update something must have changed it so the settings were no longer compatible.
So I re-enabled background data on google services and it started to work.
See if that helps. If not, I'm stuck on ideas.
Good luck an let us know how you go.
I was wondering if anyone had any problems with yahoo mail I only recently get emails notifications Wen I open the app I can't find anywhere in settings Were you can change sync every 5 minutes or so on I don't know what it's set at

I noticed today that my Google Feed isn't updating. If I swipe left on my home screen I see my feed with cards but they are the same ones that been there for a long time. If I pull down to update I get a "Can't reach your feed at the moment" message and no cards show. If I lock the phone and unlock it I get the old out of date cards back but still nothing new.
I have also noticed that the weather isn't showing in the "At A Glance" widget on the home screen.
Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas on how to fix? I have restarted and cleared the cache of the Google app and neither have worked. The only other thing I can think of is going to Apps > Google > Storage > Manage Space > Clear All Data but clears search data, search history and feed settings which are used to populate the feed with relevant data. It would have to be set up again(sports teams, stocks, etc) and have rebuild search data which takes time. If that will fix the issue I'll do it but I'd hate to have it not fix the issue and have to start over for no reason.
Same issue here all day on my P2XL and on my wife's Pixel XL.
I found that If I disable the weather updates, my feed starts working again. So it looks like it has to do with the news and weather app. I tried to uninstall/reinstall it, didn't help.
I'm having the same issue. Interestingly though, if you uninstall the updates for the Google app, it works just fine.
Same issue with me too. Tried everything yet ain't working. Running 8.1 in pixel 2 xl
Seems like it's something related to weather updates from within google app, turns out if you disable it from "customize feed" your cards will be back to normal at the loss of weather info on the app and launcher. Glad I'm not alone tho

I was also having this issue but it started working fine 5-10 min ago.

I ran into this exact issue with my regular pixel 2 about 1 hour ago. When i connected to my wifi i got a system notification saying my streaming service stopped for google (was confused what that meant) but after that my feed did not work. Weather was not showing up in the "at a glance" app as well. I tried to uninstall google app updates, deleted all data google app data, removed my google account and then re added it, and did multiple reboots while on mobile data and wifi. All efforts was not successful. I also was getting the error message "we cannot reach your feed right now" on the google app while the updates were uninstalled.
Having the same issue. Can't reach the feed since yesterday!
Same here, on Pixel 2XL for me and Pixel 2 for two of my friends. Weather doesn't show up in At A Glance widget, disabling it in the feed does nothing to the feed, and the phone doesn't react to "Hey Google", but only "Ok Google" despite retraining the voice model. There's a Reddit thread going on this https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe...able_right_now_cant_reach_your_feed/?sort=new and I also spoke to Google Support at length, they've escalated this to their engineering team, since they have lots of reports of this today. They are asking everyone to send feedback from the Google Now app/feed with the screenshot -- that way they can determine the scope of who's affected
Uninstalled the updates and restarted... Now it works fine.

Yes, I noticed the same thing. Uninstalled the latest version and went back to the factory version and it works. Although, I did notice all the cards were very old items ( 7+ hours old) but I'm not sure if that's just because there really is nothing recent.
Of everyone who is having this issue how many are in the western United States (New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona)?
Hi all,
I have started experiencing the similar issue from today. Def has something to do with Google App update as in "What's New" section it does refer to changes to feed notification etc.
Things I have tried since I first started noticing the issue:
1. Phone restart.
2. Shut down phone, wait and restart
3. Clear data of Google App along side disabled/enabled app. (Ended up losing Google assistant setup and had to redo it)
4. Uninstalled Google App updates and restarted.
Only thing that has worked is that I have selected weather from feed settings and feed is back.
I have also sent feedback to Google with screenshots.
Cheers.

Let's see how'll Google solve this.
Same here. Moto x play
Oops...they did it again...Google has mastered the art of breaking what's working very well! They keep updating apps that only break many other dependent apps...I'm on the Pixel XL and it's feed seem to work when I remove the weather feed from it...looks like google messed up the weather service...
Back in business...
Is it fixed yet or still onn with the bug
9:45 PST and it's still not fixed. I believe there is a wide spread problem with Google and also PlayStation Network.
PSN has been wonky since Friday and Google in my area has been wonky since Saturday.
