First time installing CyanogenMod CM11 to your LG G2 (ls980), or coming from another ROM:
- Read the official wiki
- Be on latest TWRP/CWM
- Be Rooted
- ZV8 Radio
- Copy GApps and CM11 ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET
- Flash CM11 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!
INCREDIBLY EASY!! This worked the SECOND time I tried it. I skipped the step of flashing the ZV8 radio first time and ended up with a boot loop. After restoring a backup, I went through the above steps EXACTLY and BINGO... am now happily using my Sprint LG G2 on TMO's $30 prepaid plan. Many thanks to the OP.

lg ls980 (sprint) thinks its a d801 and i get no service with a metro sim card
Hello to all, I am fairly a newbie at all of this but i know a thing or two as well. Where I am confused is this....I have a sprint lg g2 ls980 and I read up and flashed this rom that will enable me to use my metro pcs sim. Now my question is that ive done that how do i get it to work....i think i need the zv8 radio....I flashed the phone with the lg flash tool using the zv8 .tot file, doesent that include the zv8 radio?? If so I went thru the prompts and read everything exactly and i still can not get voice, data, or anything to work...even messing around with the apn's and nothing. And if i do need to flash the zv8 radio individually, now that my phone thinks its a d801 how would i go back to ls980.....i read something about changing a prop.build, is this correct...I know a little yet have so much learn...please if anyone can help it would be wonderful...
---------- Post added at 11:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:16 PM ----------
can someone post the link+instructions on how to return to ls980 from d801 using the rom that was given here...i forgot to flash the zv8 radio first and the backup i had was erased when i flashed the phone with the lg flash tool can anyone help, otherwise im doomed..
ZV8 Radio?
Where do i get it and what is it? Trying to flash my sprint phone and they say i need it.
GPS
Thanks younggunner for this ROM!
I don't get a GPS signal as if the GPS receiver is not on. Looking through the original thread it seems that that was an issue that was present but should have been resolved with the ROM.
Any ideas what I'm missing?

Hi, I followed the guide"Rooting and Unbricking p930/p935/p936" for root the phone. But from step 5, I noticed problems like 4G LTE network that does not work (Can not use my data plan). So I use the LGMobile Support Tool to repair but unfortunately it causes a bootloop and I'm really frustrated because the phone belongs to my mother. I was so interested in this guide because I need to improve their phone by installing the root, but the ROM has become an AT&T and I can not go back and put a Bell ROM.I know we are in 2014 and that many people have dropped out this phone but my mother still use. I really need your help to restore the mother's cell and do not forget that I don't have recovery.
Thanks.
Look for the baseband n flash it.....always backup for saftey
Also CM 11 ROM 3.4 kernel by Miroslav is almoststable !!
You could try that for the newer features. I'm not a pro either either just experience

I'm talking about the Bell Stock ROM, not a custom ROM. I want a special file for the Canadian LGP930 and I don't have a backup. I just noticed that the ROM AT&T no longer allows texting, my mother will be angry against me, so please help me! I did not need this custom ROM.
Try if you could found something you needed here
hxxp://lg-phone-firmware.com/
I found this for stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619704
I don't know much about stock so I thought I'd give you another stable option
My god! Thank you for giving your links but I just fix the problem with the cell. I managed to get the Stock ROM using LGMobile Support Tool to update (I've done since I was on AT&T) and that's sure it will cause a bootloop. BUT I had to do a Factory Rest Hard to make a wipe of the Stock ROM (It removes all data from the phone but I made backups of SMS, Call logs and etc) and after that, the cell will restart and it works! Sorry if you could not help me fix the phone but you still helped me.
As long as I helped lol
I've been considering the DE for a while, and I know a few devs are working on roms for it, but I can't help but drool with jealousy when I see the development going on for other carriers, particularly t-mobile.
Seeing as how the Verizon DE model is basically the same as the other Snapdragon versions aside from the radio, would it be possible to flash those roms onto the DE and then flash the Verizon DE radio over it? If not, is there another viable method?

The dev for FireKat (T-Mobile) is building his ROM with the Verizon base for us...should be a few more days. If you end up using it be sure to thank/donate...he has done some great stuff so far and his support will be huge for us.
Firekat V7 is available for the VZW Developer Edition
A version of FireKat using the NJ5 Verizon base is now available in the T-mobile forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../firekatn4v1-4-4-4-tw-anj7-extremely-t2916463
The Dev (Megalomanic14) is very responsive but has been very clear that the ROM will not be cross posted in this forum and that VZW users should not post any VZW related questions in the T-mobile forum to avoid confusion.
He will respond to PMs but to help avoid him being inundated, below are the steps I took which worked perfectly. He recommends clean app installs and not TiBu restores to avoid problems with corrupt data. I selectively restored a few apps from TiBu and it was fine, but do that at your own risk and if you have issues that is probably the culprit.
If you use his ROM be sure to thank and if possible donate as this ROM rocks and his continued support would be great for us, especially for Lollipop someday.
1. Find the link for the VZW version FK7 towards the end of the post 3 in the thread above, download and put it on your External SD
2. Odin the NJ5 base (if you are still on AN1, if not, skip to step 5)
3. Odin TWRP
4. Flash SU in TWRP
5. Wipe cache, dalvik, system and data
6. Flash FK7
7. Wipe cache, dalvik (for good measure)
8. Reboot
9. Be patient
10. Follow instructions in 2nd post in the TMO ROM thread to optimize performance if you want

No worries...happy to share the love.
Updated my post to refect that the ROM is in post 3 of the TMO thread. Good catch.
Just a reminder on Firekat...
The developer has requested that no one post Verizon questions in the TMO forum (and of course someone ignored this). There is probably no quicker way to get him to stop supporting a carrier that he doesn't even use so for the sake of the others that want to take advantage of his ROMs, please follow his guidelines.
Is there a risk in upgrading to NJ5? Where did you get this file from?
I followed the instructions from the Defininitve ROM update. You need to use Odin but it was really easy. I also backed up my aboot beforehand just in case.

I thought about that but felt it might be better just to use this thread as the support is "unofficial". A dedicated thread might make the dev feel like he has to monitor it.
Good luck with the flash...you will dig this ROM. If you have any questions let me know.
Having trouble flashing this ROM
I've followed all of the steps, am on J5, but once it reboots, it just keeps restarting(well not exactly restarting, but the "Samsung GALAXY Note 4" screen keeps restarting. Never encountered that when flashing ROMs on other phones in the past so I don't know if this is what it is supposed to be doing lol). I gave it over thirty minutes twice and still nothing. The MD5 matches and I've tried multiple downloads. Does it just take much longer than fifteen minutes to install? I reflashed the Stock Restore with Odin, then rooted it along with flash the J5 modem and kernel just to be sure, but it still was taking over 30 minutes before I gave up. I have no clue what I'm missing or doing wrong.
EDIT: Nevermind! I'm almost certain that I didn't download the RIGHT one. I feel so idiotic now. Should NEVER try to do stuff like this when you are half asleep at night!!

Wish I'd read this before I initially tried it. Even though I SHOULD have known better (I was half asleep - seriously bad way to be when doing something like this, but it is still humiliating that I made this blunder), I downloaded the T-Mobile version and tried to flash it. I'm incredibly lucky I didn't brick or really screw up my phone. Thankfully, I was able to get back into recovery and restore my previous backup. Now on the VERIZON version of this ROM.

When they ask for internet connection or say they can't access the server, just ignore it. Trust me. Just drag any dialogs out of view and don't pay any attention to them. I just have someone else the same advise. The program still works while it's complaining.

How to correct E960 reporting incorrect instead of actual E970 in LG_flash_tool
VDub2625 said:
I am aware, my problem was that I must have used some E960 flash at some point (I was playing with teenybins, and hence my messed-up boot screen, etc). The problem was I had to make the phone remember it was an LS970 (I reverted to a stock ZVB LGNPST flash first), and then this tool worked perfectly fine. thanks for the help! The ZVB LGNPST flash fixed my boot screen etc, so I suppose all the low level software was fixed then, but I wanted the ZVC flash as well, so i did as your instructions said. Worked perfect!
I agree that the instructions were a bit vague (and lacking in spell-check), however, it wasn't anything too difficult to understand and the step by step pictures really help.
The only problem I forsee is others with an issue like mine,t hat may have accidentally used the wrong Optimus G flash at some point, and their phone doesn't realize what it is. But as I found out, it is a simple fix.

Flash Tool Reads as "Wrong Model Name"??
I bricked my LG Optimus G LS970 (Sprint) from trying to flash cyanogenmod 12 on it.
** I had wiped the system, data, and ext by accident while in recovery so I have no OS**
So, I am trying the LF Flashtool to put the phone back to stock but it is reading the wrong model number ( comes up as a Nexus 4) see attached picture.
How can I get my phone to read as a correct model name?
I do have a backup of CWM I am unsure of how I would go about doing a recover with that without CWM recover on the phone?
Worked for me
Thank You tommyjoe, LG flash tool worked great. I did have the same issue with device reporting as different model and followed your suggestion that the unlocked bootloader was causing it somehow. After relocking bootloader correct model confirmed and flashed back to boxed stock
LS970-rooted and unlocked
ZVC-Stock Rom
Thanks again!
I have a problem when it resets it cant communicate with the device.
Hello everybody!!
My friend gave me his Virgin mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 to root and install a custom ROM on. I have install the latest TWRP recovery, and flashed the Super SU. I am not rooted on stock. I was wondering how to go about installing a custom ROM. I think that the Virgin Mobile and the Sprint are very similar, but I noticed something on the ROMs posted in the development forum. For example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2750674 shows that it is meant to work on versions with NJ2 and ND8. My S3 here has NJ3. I am wondering what this means. I have NJ3 on my S3, and I was wondering that meant. Does it mean that it is different version completely, or does it mean that it simply says that because it is Virgin Mobile and is still pretty much the same thing? That being said, would that ROM work on my S3 with NJ3?
Thanks everybody for your help and development to make this community awesome!
Okay, well I installed it anyways. It works great, but I need to find the APNs for Virgin Mobile. If someone can point that out to me, I would really appreciate it. Virgin Mobile US internet.

Here's the APN fix. You flash the zip in a custom recovery: http://androidforums.com/threads/vi...rgin-mobile-apn-fix-wip-cm-aosp-4-4-x.840298/ My Virgin Mobile SIII is on NJ3, and the APNs work fine. NJ3, ND8, etc is just the modem. AFAIK it allows for connecting to the network, and newer modems have better connections. Any d2spr ROM should work fine on Virgin Mobile SPH-L710 (NOT SPH-L710T, be careful) if you flash the APN fix.

Did you use some modified version of TWRP? The normal official version can't mount partitions properly. I tried installing it and sh*t hit the fan. I had to use a gummified version of TWRP 2.8.0.0.
Thanks for the reply! I found the same problem, and I installed CWM. I did the APN fix, but mobile data won't work. Do I now have to put the APNs for the data to work?
No, after you flash the fix in recovery, everything should be taken care of. Sometimes you might have to flash it a few times to get it to stick, I suppose. The only thing I can think of to recommend is to make sure you follow the instructions and give the FAQs a read. That should explain evertything you need to do.
As a side note, here's a link to the Gummified TWRP that I'm using, in case you want TWRP (I personally prefer TWRP over CWM/PhilZ). You can just install it using the dd method with a terminal emulator on your phone using the instructions on the TWRP site. It's the TWRP 2.8.0.0.img. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1mtB5XM-ndHQThQX08xRWFVSzQ#
Thanks for the APN fix for Virgin Mobile. I just updated to CM12.1 on my S3 and had no data until I applied this fix.
Thanks so much, I will give that a try! I flashed it once, and it did not work. I will try flashing it a couple times in order to get it to work.
Are you trying to flash an android 5.1 ROM? Sh*t hit the fan on cm12.1 and all ROMs using cm as a base, and the APN fix doesn't have LTE on 5.1. If you want stability, I'd just go with a kitkat d2lte ROM. This bug is getting worked out, though. They just fixed it on cm, I think
Yep, I found that out the hard way lol. Thanks anyways, I will let my friend back it up, and I will just install kitkat on it. Thanks for your help.
You could also install a touchwiz ROM like wicked s5 for stability, but if you ask me, half the reason to root is to get away from touchwiz
Touchwiz must die.
Hi, guys!
I have a friend who also has a VM S3, and, of course, I told him he could have a way better Android experience if he let me help him put Cyanogenmod on it. He agreed to it, liking the idea of revitalizing his phone, and I went right ahead to the XDA forums to do some research. I came across this thread (obviously), and while it was immensely helpful (thank you everyone who contributed and provided links), it has got some out of date information and a few things gone unmentioned. So, I'll briefly compile a list of everything I know here to save future VM S3 modders some trouble and headache.
1) The latest TWRP (as of right now, it's 3.0.2-0) does work on the VM S3. Whatever issue was there in older versions is taken care of.
2) It is true that one will need to flash the APN fix linked in previous comments. That will get mobile data working.
3) However, in the very article linked, one will also see a Stock MMS fix, because even with the APN fix, the stock AOSP messaging app (in our case, that of Cyanogenmod 12.1) will not receive MMS. However, as users have commented in that forum, DO NOT flash that Stock MMS fix on anything above Android 4.4.4. As I discovered the hard way, it will only result in bootloop, as well as much headache and angst.
4) So, how do we fix the MMS glitch? Directly, there's no way (that I know of/can find). What I ended up doing for my friend was, when installing GAapps, I used the Aroma installer (because why wouldn't I?), and I had it install Google's Messenger app (in Aroma, it's labeled as just "Messenger"), and I had it block the installation of the Stock CM Messenger app. MMS now works fine.
5) Not a fan of Google Apps, or specifically Google's Messenger? Well, I hear Textra is good too. :fingers-crossed:
6) For the comment by @Powered_By_Linux on the issue concerning not getting LTE, I cannot say for certain as I no longer have my friend's phone with me, and I didn't think to test it. However, I know this: the comment was made in April 2015, and the snapshot release of CM12.1 is dated for November 2015, so I imagine it's possible something got fixed in between, as he said. Also, my friend hasn't complained to me yet about any sort of service problems (only praise for his rejuvenated phone), so I'm going to assume everything's working as it should. Also, there are other users in the linked APN fix article also saying their 4G/LTE works.
Again, thank you everyone who commented and provided links, as this thread was of great help to me. Here's to keeping those S3s alive and going strong!
