I've been considering the DE for a while, and I know a few devs are working on roms for it, but I can't help but drool with jealousy when I see the development going on for other carriers, particularly t-mobile.
Seeing as how the Verizon DE model is basically the same as the other Snapdragon versions aside from the radio, would it be possible to flash those roms onto the DE and then flash the Verizon DE radio over it? If not, is there another viable method?

Unfortunately not. If I do, I'll be sure to post here.

The dev for FireKat (T-Mobile) is building his ROM with the Verizon base for us...should be a few more days. If you end up using it be sure to thank/donate...he has done some great stuff so far and his support will be huge for us.
Firekat V7 is available for the VZW Developer Edition
A version of FireKat using the NJ5 Verizon base is now available in the T-mobile forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../firekatn4v1-4-4-4-tw-anj7-extremely-t2916463
The Dev (Megalomanic14) is very responsive but has been very clear that the ROM will not be cross posted in this forum and that VZW users should not post any VZW related questions in the T-mobile forum to avoid confusion.
He will respond to PMs but to help avoid him being inundated, below are the steps I took which worked perfectly. He recommends clean app installs and not TiBu restores to avoid problems with corrupt data. I selectively restored a few apps from TiBu and it was fine, but do that at your own risk and if you have issues that is probably the culprit.
If you use his ROM be sure to thank and if possible donate as this ROM rocks and his continued support would be great for us, especially for Lollipop someday.
1. Find the link for the VZW version FK7 towards the end of the post 3 in the thread above, download and put it on your External SD
2. Odin the NJ5 base (if you are still on AN1, if not, skip to step 5)
3. Odin TWRP
4. Flash SU in TWRP
5. Wipe cache, dalvik, system and data
6. Flash FK7
7. Wipe cache, dalvik (for good measure)
8. Reboot
9. Be patient
10. Follow instructions in 2nd post in the TMO ROM thread to optimize performance if you want

No worries...happy to share the love.
Updated my post to refect that the ROM is in post 3 of the TMO thread. Good catch.
Just a reminder on Firekat...
The developer has requested that no one post Verizon questions in the TMO forum (and of course someone ignored this). There is probably no quicker way to get him to stop supporting a carrier that he doesn't even use so for the sake of the others that want to take advantage of his ROMs, please follow his guidelines.
Is there a risk in upgrading to NJ5? Where did you get this file from?
I followed the instructions from the Defininitve ROM update. You need to use Odin but it was really easy. I also backed up my aboot beforehand just in case.

I thought about that but felt it might be better just to use this thread as the support is "unofficial". A dedicated thread might make the dev feel like he has to monitor it.
Good luck with the flash...you will dig this ROM. If you have any questions let me know.
Having trouble flashing this ROM
I've followed all of the steps, am on J5, but once it reboots, it just keeps restarting(well not exactly restarting, but the "Samsung GALAXY Note 4" screen keeps restarting. Never encountered that when flashing ROMs on other phones in the past so I don't know if this is what it is supposed to be doing lol). I gave it over thirty minutes twice and still nothing. The MD5 matches and I've tried multiple downloads. Does it just take much longer than fifteen minutes to install? I reflashed the Stock Restore with Odin, then rooted it along with flash the J5 modem and kernel just to be sure, but it still was taking over 30 minutes before I gave up. I have no clue what I'm missing or doing wrong.
EDIT: Nevermind! I'm almost certain that I didn't download the RIGHT one. I feel so idiotic now. Should NEVER try to do stuff like this when you are half asleep at night!!

Wish I'd read this before I initially tried it. Even though I SHOULD have known better (I was half asleep - seriously bad way to be when doing something like this, but it is still humiliating that I made this blunder), I downloaded the T-Mobile version and tried to flash it. I'm incredibly lucky I didn't brick or really screw up my phone. Thankfully, I was able to get back into recovery and restore my previous backup. Now on the VERIZON version of this ROM.

I messaged the ROM dev last week and he does not want any threads started for his ROM at all.

1. Since the Galaxy S III became available as a Boost variant, there’s been an increasing amount of questions, issues, and requests for builds. I have collaborated with the powers that be, and it was determined that it might be a good idea to start a Boost only thread. This thread is dedicated to anything and everything Boost Galaxy S III related.
2. I will update and bump and sticky and edit and whatever else needs to be done the best that I can, but it is open and available to all. This is YOUR thread, just as much as it is mine. I encourage folks to ask questions, post relevant links, tutorials, helpful hints, and anything else they come across while tinkering with their new phone that may help others related to the Boost S3.
3. First and foremost, as always is the disclaimer. We are all responsible for our own actions. I am not responsible for what you do to your phone, so please do not flame me or anyone else in this thread if you do something that potentially fries your device.
4. If you post a link to something flashable, either through Odin, CWM, Heimdall, TWRP, etc, please test it on your own phone first or have someone test it before you do so. If it works, and will benefit someone, feel free to include it. I will most likely PM the dev and ask to put it in the OP.
5. And finally, please be courteous and respectful. We are all here to learn from one another, and do not need sarcasm, unkindness, flaming, or disrespect, of any kind. Thank you and enjoy.
Stock Unrooted OTA Odin Tar
This is the official, stock, right out of the box, Boost MD7. This will unroot your device, and take everything back to the way it was when you got it. Please thank the OP, Smith058, over at AF (link to OP at the bottom), since he was so gracious to let me post it here, and to let me use it to cook up something good for you folks More to come on that one! The only issue I’ve noticed on this build is there’s no boot up sound. But it flashed modem, stock recovery, put the device status back to “normal” and made the “custom” in Odin mode back to “official.” This should come in handy if you need to send it back for repair, or just want to start anew. The coming zip (once it’s uploaded) has working sound.

Flashing Instructions:
1. Download and Install Odin to your PC
2. Download the ROM to your computer, and remember where you put it
3. Boot your phone into download(Odin) mode by pressing volume down, home button, and power button simultaneously
4. Once in Odin mode, connect your phone to your PC
5. Once the “COM” block turns blue, click the PDA button, and navigate to the ROM tar.
6. As a habit, I uncheck the F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot boxes as well
7. Click Start. When it’s done, pull the battery.
8. Reinsert battery, boot up, and profit

My phone is running a rooted version of the stock MG2 ROM. While it has the Boost startup splash "4G" screen, I don't think there ever was a sound component.
Also - If I recall correctly, some custom ROMs labelled as compatible with the Sprint Galaxy S3 will cause us to LOSE 4G SERVICE, because they do not have the Boost-specific APN settings in them, and changing APN settings on Jellybean ROMs is (apparently) not possible as it was on Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs. So beware, and make sure that any ROMs that you want to flash will not kill your 4G!

I think it was an issue with the Tar, because when I built the flashable zips, they not only had the Boost animation, but the sound component as well. And I have seen around that some Sprint ROMs will cause issues with 4g. I know that it is possible to get into change the "guts" of your phone if you have your MSL by with JB Touchwiz ROMs by dialing ##3282# from your phone's dialer. However, for some reason, with the zip I just built, it's not cooperating. I'm going to swap out secphone.apk later today, from another stock build, and see if that fixes the issue. But thanks for the heads up. That's what this thread is all about.

If you flashed the rooted one, chances are it won't let you update, but give it a try. Additionally, if you have custom recovery, which you had to in order to flash the zip, it most likely won't let you update it either. It's an Android Software update, not a firmware. I would try it, and I'm sure it will fail, but at least you won't get prompted anymore for software updates But yes, it is safe to try.

jdsingle76 is correct. It won't hurt anything, it just won't work. If you accept the update, your phone will reboot into recovery, process for a few seconds, and fail with an error. However in my experience, that will not stop the software update prompts from re-occurring. If I recall, the best way to stop them was to use something like Titanium Backup and freeze something having to do with 'OTACERTS'. It's been a while, so my info may be out-of-date on that front.
can someone please reupload the stock SPH-L710 odin tar file else where before I brick my phone accidentally, its not letting me use recovery. What file from this op are you referring to? But to answer your question, yes, you can flash ant sprint file to the boost variant, and vice versa, you just might have to change apn, mmsc, stuff like that, to get mms to work.

Don't fret. .. If kitkat comes out there will definitely be a custom rom made with it that you will be able to flash. With root you will have many more options than you ever will with stock.
Hey guys, I am new to this forum here but before anyone flames me, I did read the faqs and tried to uninstall from there but it did not work out. Apparently I dont think you can get rid of CM11 since you cant install any stock firmware older than it? Before I installed CM11, I was on jellybean. I had tried to find the latest kitkat update for the s3 (att) and there is no file of it found online (tried sammobile). When I tried flashing an older firmware with ODIN, it just fails at "NAND!". Any help would be appreciated. I am COMPELETELY new at this so specific directions would be appreciated!
I really do love cyanogenmod but there are simply too many glitches and not enough guidance on how to fix em. I am, however, currently using it on my HP touchpad, if anyone remembers what it is . Maybe ill go back to using it in the future.
thanks!
Your rom (cm) has nothing to do with what firmware you can or cannot flash. Once you have updated to 4.3 firmware or newer, you can only flash the same or newer firmware in odin from now on. (Regardless of firmware you can still flash older roms btw)
Using terminal emulator, enter this to find your current firmware build:
getprop ro.bootloader
I suspect you are on a 4.3 build. So odin flash that same firmware. You can find it in these forums. After that you can get the ota to update fully to kk.
There are other methods of updating. Just check the General section. (enewman17 has a few threads that will help)
Note: anytime you go between touchwiz and non touchwiz roms, you will have to factory reset or it'll hang at boot.

I am on "I747UCUEMJB"
and i am not sure what build i am on but according to my "build number"this is what it says: "cm_d2att-userbug 4.4.2 KOT49H"
The main issue is, I cannot find 4.3 update anywhere on the internet
The MJB is your current firmware/bootloader build/version.
The build number displayed in settings only represents the rom, which is often different, and doesnt really matter to much.

i have no idea what MJB means (i google'd it) and i just found out what my bootloader version is via download mode (its at the very bottom) and i have version 2.0?
ok downloading the giant file now. will report details. just follow instructions in the first link?
[sorry, like i said, im a noob so i really apologize for the lack of terms here]
MJB is just short for I747UCUEMJB. Sorry if I confused you. And the S/W revision being 2.0 is what Odin uses to know what firmware it is allowed to flash. In this case 2.0 tells odin it can flash the MJB firmware, or anything newer.
And yes, follow the instructions he posted and you should be fine.
Oh, and if you did not run the getprop command I posted before, please do so before flashing....just to be on the safe side. If it returns I747UCUEMJB, you are good to go. If it returns anything else, let me know before flashing.

Cool! Got it. I think that was my main problem. I could only find 4.0 (or 4.1) and have been trying to use that on ODIN. Perhaps that was the main issue....
Oh already ran it and got "I747UCUEMJB", sorry if didnt say it properly.
Really appreciate the help! Ive at this for days and no solutions. Sometimes the hacking/custom firmware isnt for everybody
Ill update what happens. Download is taking forever.
EDIT: BTW, for the first link, which poster am I gonna have to follow? im assuming "garbage guy"?
I though you did run the command already, but just wanted to be certain is all. For some reason AT&T stopped releasing their firmware, which has been causing all kinds of problems for people.
Anyway, it sounds like you are good to go! Good luck!
Oh, and if the firmware you're downloading is a .zip or .7z file, make sure you extract it first. Odin only flashes .tar and .tar.md5 files.

Awesome!
really glad to hear that! The only thing I can think of thst you might want to do next is backing up your nv data. The following is a copy/past from a post I made a few min ago... root is required to fo this btw, just so you know.
(Since you are looking to update though, I recommend waiting till you have updated before rooting and running this backup)
It's a super simple procedure and will create an on device backup of your nv data. The backup will be stored on a couple of partitions we never touch, not even with firmware flashes. This essentially makes it a permanent backup. The cool thing about it is every time you reboot, the system checks for any corruption, and if detected, it will automatically restore from this backup. So if it were to ever happen, you probably wouldn't ever even notice it!
Install the Terminal Emulator from the play store. Open and enter this:
su
reboot nvbackup
Thats it! Device will reboot and create your backup. This should prevent you from ever suffering from a lost IMEI!

That has been released, but OTA's are generally rolled out in stages over several weeks. Usually done by region. So it msy not have started in your area just yet.
Two alternatives you can try though, install kies on your computer and update through that. Or there are a couple if threads in the General section that provide the ota for download.
Enewman17 has a few threads helping folks to update so I recommend checking them out as well.
Ive heard that some people have gone to best buy and they were able to initiate the update there. I dont know much more about this though.

Thank you! I will look into this. I just figured for some reason...I would have some data left from cyanogenmod, if that makes sense. In other words, i want my phone to be as fresh as possible. I only ask this because when I had CM, i accidentally made a backup of it through rom manager (or clockwork) and I am not sure if its in my partition somewhere.

Enewman17 has a few threads helping folks to update so I recommend checking them out as well.
Ive heard that some people have gone to best buy and they were able to initiate the update there. I dont know much more about this though.

TIL that OTA arent as fast. Ill download KIES and give it a try.
Just installed KIES and it said my phone has the latest firmware?

Factory resetting with stock recovery installed wipes all data except the external sdcard. I am so sorry I should've mentioned this before. I was thinking you had already done one at some point and didn't have anything left to worry about. Still, I should have asked and I do apologize for that. Hopefully if it was really important it was saved to the external sdcard....

Ok, I wasn't sure about that. I personally never need or use kies so I didn't know if it was tied to the staged rollouts. It would appear that it is though.
Give me a few min and ill post links to the threads where you can download the ota or update via a different method.

I suggest trying the third one by bkong first. He posted a pure OTA file you can try to update with.
The first option is a recovery flashable firmware, but does not include the /system (ROM) portion. To fully update using this you'll flash the firmware per his instructions and then go to his development thread for the stock rom. It is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788357
The second option is the OTA file, but it has been slightly modified to skip certain file checks. If the original OTA doesnt work, theres a good chance this will. (Since you are full stock now either one should flash without issue).
Hope those help! I recommend doing a bit of reading about each one (at least the OP and last few pages) and start with whichever you are most comfortable with.
Or, you could always use that most valuable tool, patience, and wait for the OTA to roll out for your area.
Good luck!

No no! Its fine, I wasnt planning using it or anything, I just wanted to get rid of it since I have no use for it, no need to apologize. , I was fully aware that I would lose all files, other than SD ext drive. I just wanted to make sure that all files are in the right place and none of the unnecessary files are taking up space (e.g. files from cyanogenmod)
As for the update, I talked to a samsung representative and they said one can go to Best Buy and get it updated there through a technician, so Ill try that later since I am close to it ATM. If it back fires, Ill try your suggestions.
I really do appreciate for the help , I have been completely lost for days but it turns out I was just using the wrong firmware. Thanks for pointing it out. Good karma is coming your way . Hopefully one day, I will be here again and trying out a new custom firmware.
Glad I could help!
If I remember right, someone who mentioned the best buy thing had said at the time that the first store they went to did not have the update yet. But I think they found another in their area did. So if they say its up to date and cant help, you might find another store close by can. (If there is one of course!)
Just fyi so you're not too surprised if that happens.

NJ5 Gear VR?
Is anyone able to confirm whether or not NJ5 stock works with the Gear VR on DE?
So would it be a bad idea to update just using the software update in the phones settings menu? Or should I do it by running odin? What actual difference does this make? Will this cause me issues once we do have a root method for this device?
would like to know, do I need to use a full firmware or partial firmware to update to lollipop?
Clarify instructions
Hello,
I'm fairly new to Android. That being said, I'm also new to flashing using Odin. I've searched for quite awhile for "detailed" instructions of Odin, but can't seem to find any. I did find a few things here and there but I would like to know what each and every entry does in the program. If someone can point me to the full instructions (link), I would greatly appreciate it.
Beyond that, the reason I'm posting here is that I'm a little confused by the directions given to use Odin in this thread. Line #5 states... "Add the *.tar.md5 file to AP / PDA". Looking at Odin 3.09, I don't see any "PDA" section anywhere. Is the reference to "PDA" simply something that AP used to be called before and is now not present in Odin 3.09?
Keep in mind that newbies like myself can get confused by small things. We don't want to make any mistakes we'll regret later. I hope you can relate and understand.
Attached a photo of what I'm asking about.
Thanks!

Had to restore and need to make sure I have the right firmware...Please help
It has been a very long time since I have posted to the threads. I have been with android since the very beginning and have flashed and done the custom rom thing quite a bit. I am stumped with this one though and I cannot find any information on it after searching for two days. I have the developer edition Note 4 and I had to do a restore on it because I did not like lollipop. I don't know if I have the right firmware. Even though everything is working alright, it just doesn't feel right. I am listing my firmware stuff below. Please tell me if I am right. I also don't know why my build number is NK5 and my baseband is NJ5. The way that I restored was flashing the stock NJ5 and then the nj5 to nk5 like for the lollipop update. The only difference is that I stopped there and loaded TWRP and root. Any help is much appreciated.
This is what I have currently:
BASEBAND: N910VVRU1ANJ5
KERNEL: 3.10.0
BUILD NUMBER: KTU84P.N910VVRU1ANK5
Is this correct?
Thanks!

Only if you have a developer edition. You DO NOT want to update the developer edition with the updater in the phone or you will lock your bootloader. Otherwise I dont see a reason not to update with the phone. These files here are if you brick your phone and need to do a restore.

I pulled the trigger and all went well. I did get into three bootloops but pulled the battery each time until it finally gave in and booted up into KK. Not sure what went on there. Once I got through, I powered down, entered into the root menu, cleared cache/wiped data and restarted again. All is good, so it worked! Back in KK!
Lollipop does seem to run faster/smoother... and colors are nice... but I disliked the interface.
1) The notification panel is lighter blue in LP than in KK and so contrast is diminished. Old people have a hard time with contrast issues... and I'm OLD!
2) Don't like that LP phone number pad has no separators. No biggie but I like KK better.
3) Don't like how they added a floating icon in LP in contacts. It blocks some of my contact's info, so I have to scroll just to read it. Also, the icon makes the interface look "cheesy". Bad move in my opinion.
4) There are other things I dislike, but forgot what they were since I'm back to KK!!!!
Thanks for the help and reassurance!:good:

N910VVRU1BOAF Firmware
Hello,
I have a N910VVRU1BOAF that got updated to Lollipop but needs to go back to KitKat. I downloaded the Full Firmware from the first post and followed instructions from post #3. The flash runs without errors and shows PASS at the end, but when the phone reboots no changes have been made to it and its still running Lollipop. It looks like if all I did to the phone was just rebooting it. Sorry for the noob question. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
My bad. Just found out what I missed. N910VVRU1BOAF is lollipop, so I just need to flash N910VVRU1ANJ5.
Thanks to all.

Your Baseband, and Kernel match my verizon retail note 4 that is still running KK as delivered from the factory. My Build number is KTU84P.N910VVRU1ANJ5 though (i.e., Baseband and Build are both ...J5).
Good evening everyone. I am now the proud owner of a Vzw Note 4 Developer edition I had got this phone rooted and ROMd running NI1 firmware and Beanstalk rom 5.0.2 and kernel version 3.10. I've been roaming and searching for help trying to backup my Efs(ABOOT). I've tried using EFS pro tool several times and having no luck with it working. While creating a new setup as described in the efs pro guide for this device, i set three names for file, description, and device, click on read pit(pit shows up) click save and refresh manage button, select my created list but nothing shows up on the pit description to backup so i am unable to make a efs backup. Ive tried also with the terminal emulator method but both pc and note 4 cannot detect device.... Su works fine and have Superuser 2.46 and busybox current installed , I've granted permission and given remember this sync key. I just have 2 question' pertaining to my story since i can't find anything helpful with the ni1 firmware/baseband. 1) do i need to unroot and use stock restore for NI1 to get back to full stock rom and firmware than update to nj5 firmware in order to get efs pro to work with my note 4 or can i just follow the single step update to OAF firmware from the NI1 firmware if i want to go to Mod57s pac rom 5.1? 2) if someone would be so kind to explain the order of operation of updating for firmware and rom.. (i. E) flash firmware before rom or rom before firnware? I only see mention of firmware updating losing custom recovery and root but not which order needed to be flashed? I apologize for the long trip but without having a backup of my aboot or efs i don't want to chance doing something the wrong way. Thank you all so much for your time

I'm having spotty cellular connection and I'd like to try a different modem or two and see if another one works better.
I'm running CM14 on a retail edition (rooted obviously), can I just flash the modems only? Any knowledge of them working with CM14?
Thanks in advance.
As i appreciate ALL the work the DEV's have done i think its amazing. I however hate i have the note 4 retail converted to dev edition, becuase of the model number SM-910V. I have tried several snapdragon ROMS and i can not get any of them to work properly. I see so many roms in there and it sucks i cant try any of them. The only 2 ROM's i have been able to use successfully have been Kyubi and Cyanogen. Why is it that the F model Note 4 sucks for ROM's?? So i had to go back to Kyubi's ROM. I have flashed several ROM's on all of my phones and for many other friends and family so its not like im a stranger to the process. I have tried several different ROM's including Emotion, Maximum and Jasmine ROM that just names a few. Just wanted to vent, and maybe someone can tell me what they are running on their SM-N910V and how they did this????
Not sure, but I have a converted retail and I've run all of those ROMs, except Emotion which I never got around to. You doing clean installs and wiping data? Your post is way too general to offer much in the way of suggestions. I would try changing kernels and maybe reflashing SuperSu?

Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
I'm running Jasmine 6.0 on my phone, I've been running it since day one, and it works perfectly.
I used no particular magic. I can read the English language and can follow the directions. I read the ROM thread and all of the other threads that applied, including the upgrade to Marshmallow thread. I read them from front to back. I don't consider myself to be anywhere near developer level. I'm not sure I can qualify as a power user. I did not start any process until I was sure I understood what I was doing and why. I watched while others made mistakes and then tried to make sure I did not repeat them. I do not flash modems or bootloaders or kernels willy nilly. I am on the kernel that came with my ROM. I have not messed with modems because I didn't see any benefit in it. I look for posters that are willing to help that have some experience. I look for posters that have more than a few "thanks." I haven't been steered wrong too many times using that outlook. I could only hope that I could be as helpful and as patient with the many posters here that aren't willing to help themselves that some of the senior people here are.
My suggestions for those having problems? Read the threads, all of the ones that apply to what you're trying to do. Start from scratch. Follow the directions exactly. Research the ROMs you'd like to try completely, then follow the directions exactly again. Be prepared to wipe everything you have the option to wipe, except for the SD card with stuff you want to flash. That includes formatting the internal storage. Do not use Titanium Backup to restore your apps and especially not system apps. Always, always, always do a full nandroid backup. If you have a question, use the search function first.
As harsh as this sounds, if you can't do all of that, stay on stock or get back to stock and please, go away.
I have run Kyubi, Kyubi MM, DrKs, MaxOD, PaulPizz.. all with little to no problems. My favorite is Kyubi, but I am playing with DrKs right now..
Chill, people !! Let's not be super harsh with people who at least try.
I wonder if the OP is still around? It is not that difficult. If you can answer ONE question I'll be glad to help:
1. What bootloader are you on? Be exact - did you do the second unlock for MM bootloader.
See ya soon.

i think ur post is rude and negative.. hes being honest and still posted his work on afh for ppl to use and enjoy..
ppl dont know how time consuming and demanding maintaining a popular rom such as RR is and quite frankly i dont blame him.
would u rather have someone say theyll maintain then never update the rom or know from the start the truth and that he probably just doesnt have the time to deal with ppl on xda who dont appreciate the rom for wat it is.

since this is posted in the questions and answers I have some questions. What is flash disable verity zip? i have flashed every ROM available for this device and this step has never been needed thus it has never been a zip file that is in regular circulation like twrp or magisk. You state that one user stated that he had to format data to get it booted. What user? what thread, what board ect ect is this being discussed? I really hate asking questions I can easily research my self, but you have a void of missing information and and a guide of installation that is just as mysterious as the ROM your posting it self.
I understand not having the time to run a ROM thread and work the dev for it, but posting something like this is confusing and does not seem to safe for people looking to get a working copy of RR on the device. I tried to flash this zip to the best of my knowledge based on the info you provided and now I am back on stock recovering my data from my PC because it did not even attempt to boot. Again i get not having the time to maintain something like this but it does not seem logical to offer something that is not verified to work and also not likely for most to work on in the future.

You probably should have switched slots in twrp, rebooted to recovery, then flash disable verity. Even after you got the reboot at splash, you should have been able to hold power and volume down to reboot to twrp flash disable verify zip at the point also. And don't flash magisk initially. Boot once successfully, then go back to flash magisk
