So usually after letting my phone sit for a while, I go to use it and the screen doesn't come on. Usually when I'm using my hotspot. I've tried different roms, kernels, etc. Can't figure it out. It just stays black until I pull the battery and restart it. Anyone know of a fix?
Bump
Cant seem to find where i read it but if i recall correctly thats a problem with kt kernel.....Ive occasionally had that same issue. Recently flashed a new rom and it must play nicer with the kernel because ive not had that issue. BTW im on Hyperdrive rom
I'm just on a stock 4.4.4 rom
Anybody?
Have you flashing to stock with Odin? Is the phone on but just doesn't respond or does it shut off?
It stays on, usually happens during my over night charging. Haven't been back up stock with Odin.

What does this mean exactly?
No clue what that was suppose to say, no I haven't odin'd lol.
You may need to odin your firmware whatever it is, if you want to stay stock ShinySide has links in the general section.
Pp.
I'm running the stock rom currently, just rooted.

ROM is not enough, you should flash the full firmware if you keep having this issue

Hey guys, I need some help,
I have been using CleanGB v1.1.2 for a long time. Recently, I've been having a huge problem. Whenever I use ANY ROM, after about ten to twenty minutes, my phone just becomes *slow* as molasses. It's unnerving. It could be at the bootloader screen... it could be in the ROM itself... but if I'm using ANYthing but the stock ROM with everything unrooted, the phone just goes slow-as-*&#^-as-*&&& and I have to pull the battery out after ten to twenty minutes.
Any ideas?
My ROMs aren't corrupted. I've tested them all and I've tried installing and rooting from different computers with the same problem. I have tried CleanGB v.1.1.2 and People's 2.2.1 and Thunderhawk 5.1. All have the same problem after ten to twenty minutes.
EDIT - I should add that I have rooted (even as of today) other people's Epic 4Gs and none of them have had the same issue as mine, so I know there's something going on with my phone, in particular.
The only thing I can think may be doing this is that I use the CWM flash + the FC09 rom method to root my phone. Maybe I should be rooting it using Odin as I used to do back in the day.
When I go back *from* the root to the unroot, I always re-partition and time reset in Odin with a stock ROM. No problems after that.

Sadie, I root by odining cwm with auto reboot unchecked, pop battery out and in, 3 finger to cwm and flash ROM of choice. It definitely sounds like a strange issue.

Hey KG,
Yeah, I think I need to go back to performing the rooting procedure from ODIN. I just can't seem to find the links to that online. God, I've turned into an ultra-n00b again.
What do *you* think is the best way to root using ODIN? I think the problem is that I've been rooting using the easier, flash-to-CWM in Odin and then flash the rooted ROM from CWM. I think I need to do it all from ODIN and repartition at that level.
Epic Touch or S3 here I come! LOL!

This sounds like a rogue app sucking up your memory. Does it happen on stock with all your apps restored?
It happens with every Rom I use. When I flash my phone back to stock the problem goes away.

After you root have you updated superuser and it's binaries?

Is it happening with your new phone as well? I recommended flash the rom of your choice do not install any apps for a day or two. If all is fine install one app a day till you find which app. My guess would be a app that you use that needs root because it doesn't happen on stock. Just my 2 cents.

So I've tried every rom that was based off the official jellybean. I even tried the stock rom by using Odin and it is still giving me problems too. So far, on every rom, it skips the welcome page after it boots and goes directly to the system manager popup. After that, my homescreen is all messed up. Someone please help
I'm using TWRP btw

I've already tried stock lol. It doesn't work. I keep getting the same results
After you flashed stock on Odin did you do a factory reset? Try that. It should solve your problem.

I tried that. It gives me the same thing. It skips the welcome screen for the tw jb roms and then the system manager randomly pops up. After it pops up, I get these random texts shown in the picture on my home screen and sometimes I can't pull down the notification bar when that happens. It was working fine yesterday though.

Never mind, I found a fix. Just had to restore back to my old ics touchwiz rom and delete root. Then I used kies to update to jellybean.
I recently flashed the 1.6.1 furnace kernel and my phone began to act strange. I did not deviate from the instructions and took precautions. The phone would turn on and seem functional for 20 seconds. After that, it would turn off and restart. I flashed the stock rom and unrooted the phone, however, it continues to behave this way, only now it isn't rooted and I cannot access the recovery menu.

Is the Kernel Undervolted/Overclocked by default? Some custom kernels are UVd but not all phones can handle that.

I don't believe so. I chose the non overclocked version to be safe so it should't be. Is there a way I can flash a custom ROM onto the phone without recovery mode and without it being rooted?

You can get back to stock via download mode, but I don't believe you can install custom roms.

Will this change the current kernel back to stock because I think that is the problem. I kdz using flashtool and it works for about 5 minutes before doing the same thing... : (
Should I just keep trying or is there something I should change.
(I have reflashed the stock .tot before and it worked. Using the same method now doesn't seem to work)
Take it back to stock with download mode. If this does not fix the issue then the phone needs to be replaced. If going back to stock doesn't fix the issue you might want to work with the developer as I have heard of this before. Might just be faulty hardware as it doesn't seem common, but there may be something the custom rom is doing that is the cause. Hoping a factory restore fixes things for you.
I have my sisters s4 and it has given me nothing but problems. It was set to stock and it wasn't rooted or anything and I'm still having issues. It freezes and hangs on forever and the background screen turns black even though I don't have a black background on it. After a while it resets randomly. I tried everything I could to get it running. I flashed the stock rom through odin like a million times and it's still having issues. I don't know if it's the phone or the stock rom or what but I just wanna get it running. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure what is wrong with your phone but you can root your phone and flash a custom ROM and it might work.

If you still get issues after factory resetting and flashing with Odin, also try kies as a last resort or flash custom ROM as kriptik stated

ok so if i got that file and odin flashed it it would mess up my phone ... the reason i am asking is that now on every rom but the stock it randomely turns off and does a boot loop until i take out the battery and also some times it just reboots and then i have half battery even after i had a full charge
That would hard brick it and our debrick method wouldn't work.
If it's boot looping, it may be a power switch problem. If it hangs at boot, factory reset.
If you want TW kk, your only options are the roms we have.

ya i have it on Spirit ROM right now and its working good but on some apps it will just turn off or restart into a boot loop and when i had it on carbon rom when i used the camera it would eather turn off or take real bad pictures with lines but when its on stock everything works good no problems but i dont like stock lol
Those are issues probably best dealt within their respective rom threads.
Stuff like that is why I don't even bother with non tw roms. I prefer tw anyway, but non stock ones have always had too many issues, so for me there's really not even much reason to try them tbh. It's more a personal preference thing though.

Try one of the 4.4.2 tw ROMs in development, very stable, fast and some are very customizable
