I have my sisters s4 and it has given me nothing but problems. It was set to stock and it wasn't rooted or anything and I'm still having issues. It freezes and hangs on forever and the background screen turns black even though I don't have a black background on it. After a while it resets randomly. I tried everything I could to get it running. I flashed the stock rom through odin like a million times and it's still having issues. I don't know if it's the phone or the stock rom or what but I just wanna get it running. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure what is wrong with your phone but you can root your phone and flash a custom ROM and it might work.

If you still get issues after factory resetting and flashing with Odin, also try kies as a last resort or flash custom ROM as kriptik stated

Hey guys, I need some help,
I have been using CleanGB v1.1.2 for a long time. Recently, I've been having a huge problem. Whenever I use ANY ROM, after about ten to twenty minutes, my phone just becomes *slow* as molasses. It's unnerving. It could be at the bootloader screen... it could be in the ROM itself... but if I'm using ANYthing but the stock ROM with everything unrooted, the phone just goes slow-as-*&#^-as-*&&& and I have to pull the battery out after ten to twenty minutes.
Any ideas?
My ROMs aren't corrupted. I've tested them all and I've tried installing and rooting from different computers with the same problem. I have tried CleanGB v.1.1.2 and People's 2.2.1 and Thunderhawk 5.1. All have the same problem after ten to twenty minutes.
EDIT - I should add that I have rooted (even as of today) other people's Epic 4Gs and none of them have had the same issue as mine, so I know there's something going on with my phone, in particular.
The only thing I can think may be doing this is that I use the CWM flash + the FC09 rom method to root my phone. Maybe I should be rooting it using Odin as I used to do back in the day.
When I go back *from* the root to the unroot, I always re-partition and time reset in Odin with a stock ROM. No problems after that.
Hoppingfully yours,

Sadie, I root by odining cwm with auto reboot unchecked, pop battery out and in, 3 finger to cwm and flash ROM of choice. It definitely sounds like a strange issue.

Hey KG,
Yeah, I think I need to go back to performing the rooting procedure from ODIN. I just can't seem to find the links to that online. God, I've turned into an ultra-n00b again.
What do *you* think is the best way to root using ODIN? I think the problem is that I've been rooting using the easier, flash-to-CWM in Odin and then flash the rooted ROM from CWM. I think I need to do it all from ODIN and repartition at that level.
Epic Touch or S3 here I come! LOL!

This sounds like a rogue app sucking up your memory. Does it happen on stock with all your apps restored?
It happens with every Rom I use. When I flash my phone back to stock the problem goes away.

Is it happening with your new phone as well? I recommended flash the rom of your choice do not install any apps for a day or two. If all is fine install one app a day till you find which app. My guess would be a app that you use that needs root because it doesn't happen on stock. Just my 2 cents.

So I've tried every rom that was based off the official jellybean. I even tried the stock rom by using Odin and it is still giving me problems too. So far, on every rom, it skips the welcome page after it boots and goes directly to the system manager popup. After that, my homescreen is all messed up. Someone please help
I'm using TWRP btw

After you flashed stock on Odin did you do a factory reset? Try that. It should solve your problem.

I tried that. It gives me the same thing. It skips the welcome screen for the tw jb roms and then the system manager randomly pops up. After it pops up, I get these random texts shown in the picture on my home screen and sometimes I can't pull down the notification bar when that happens. It was working fine yesterday though.

Never mind, I found a fix. Just had to restore back to my old ics touchwiz rom and delete root. Then I used kies to update to jellybean.
so I don't know how it happened
but over the past couple weeks I've had a lot of trouble with my phone
I didn't notice any issues until I flashed Skynote
it started out as just my computer not recognizing it when connected via USB
but problems have escalated further now
for some reason if I try flashing touchwiz roms 1/2 the time TWRP crashes while doing it and if it doesn't it constantly hangs up during flashing(it took me almost 1/2 hour to flash ultimate internation rom last night)
If I get a rom running the phone is constantly hanging when going through the settings menu.. or if an app is installing it will lock up totally for like 5 seconds
I've formatted thru twrp, I wipe the system every time. I've tried countless factory resets
nothing seems to be helping
anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Probably something corrupt or misplaced. Flash stock to using odin. That should fix it

I have faced similar issues twice after changing a rom. The only way back to stability was to odin a stock firmware on to the note II and then to re-root, re-install a custom recovery and reflash the rom.
You can use this thread to get the files to odin back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275844
Give it a try. . . it helped me!
thanks for the help guys
seems to be running well on stock......I'm gonna put it through it's paces for a while before I get my hopes totally up though
I think I'm just gonna keep it like this until we get some 4.2.2 touchwiz roms
hopefully with 4.2.2 coming out in the coming days the wait wont be too long

They all need a good cleaning once in a while ...g

Try CWM recovery, not twrp....I never use twrp, , always hearing issues with people using that recovery method...Some phone's just don't like it..lol
And like Greg stated...most phones need a thorough cleaning every now and then to get the bugs out.
With TWRP its always good to have the latest version... it can really make a difference

I prefer using CWM to flash ROMs on my device. I Always had problems flashing zips on my phone using TWRP recovery. It gave me a headache that I had to use the emergency firmware recovery in kies to revert to stock and reset my flash count. Do try flashing in CWM recovery instead and see what's the result.

I just got the GN3 and naturally, the first thing I did was root it. That took a bit of time because it didn't seem to want to stock. Supersu kept force closing and i would get a pop up saying its been prevented from opening. After a bit i got it though. and used titanium to freeze all the unwanted bloat. but EVERY time i try to install a ROM i get into a boot loop. Ive tried just about every rom that is so far available to us. ive tried removing the battery, wiping cache, and doing system restore. but i just constantly get boot loops. Any thoughts?

There are three places to look, the CWM bootloop thread, the N900T TWRP bootloop thread, and it's being discussed in the Original Android Development - TWRP thread.. This post will probably get merged.. Either way, need more info, like the recovery you're using, are you able to Odin back to stock etc...

Happy to hear it, I would read the thread, it's right below this one currently, as to avoid the bootloop issue. Also might want to get the .2 release of TWRP just in case., even though it gave you issues the first time..

No not in Odin. Factory reset in recovery. Be it twrp/cwm before the Odin flash or stock android recovery 3e after the.flash.....
.... Odin has never wiped apps . I've been using Odin since the vibrant..
And as for the backup restore.. I wouldn't until its all sorted out. Considering I was the first one in a boot loop. It could just be me scared lol

hey guys, I don't really know much about rooting and all that stuff. i rooted it once out of curiousity but quickly went back to the stock firmware and reset the counter. months later (now) I recently started getting all these sim card errors I figured i installed the firmware wrong or something so i tried to redownload the stock firmware and upgrade from there
I launched odin 1.85 installed OUDHS-Recovery-jfltetmo-1.0.3.3 into the phone, ( it passed) and then i installed ROOT_M919UVUAMDL after it rebooted i started getting this
"kernel is not se android enforcing
set warranty bit: kernel"
I can still access cwm touch req0very v1.0.3.3 but I dont know where to go from here, i just want my phone back
Are you still getting sim card errors?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
lol well it wont go past the galaxy s screen. it stuck there and it gives me the error, also i believe its because the stock rom i got was android 4.2 but it was running 4.3. i dont even care what os runs as long as i get my phone running. i tried going through all the posts in the other threads but I dont understand some of the procedures to get them running. cyanogen mod looks nice and simple
I got it to boot up with a nexus rom, its really different from touch wiz it still gave me the kernel error when i booted it but it ran fine afterwards, i was also checking out the rom and it said that I only have 1.2 gb of ram when ireally have 2 gb. slowly but surely i'm starting to dig this changing of the roms, haha. can anyone hook it up with a link the latest firmware of stock touchwiz? i kinda want to get it running good by the weekend. thanks in advance
There's nothing wrong with the message at boot up, you tripped the Knox counter so that's why you get that message.. You can just flash a stock ROM if you want to go back to touchwiz
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
well, it looks like i'm still getting the sim error message, could it be because its running 4.3 still? how do i get it back to stock and reset the counter so that i can exchange it at tmobile?
It's because you tripped the Knox bootloader. I usually just flash the stock ROM that came with the phone when exchanging.
