[Q] Problems with ditto rom - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I'm a nevbie...
I made my first root on Samsung GTn7105, I made a backup with Philz 6.07.9 and copied ditto rom DN3_v5_N7105_by_E-Team in external sd card. I wiped cache, dalvik, but when I try to start the installation the process soon ends with "installation aborted"...any hints?
Thanks

clear even system and data and then try.
If it doesn't work download again the ROM and do again a full wipe and flash it.

sd card
Sounds like its most likely your SD card. Backup everything off it onto computer, then format it, get rid of all partitions for eg. App2sd just to be safe, then put update file on SD card again, full phone wipe, dalvik cache wipe, and you should be ok. Mess about with app2sd once your bit more experienced.

Are you new to flashing custom roms? the first boot can take a while fyi
do a full wipe and wipe the dalvik cache before you flash the 3.3 rom
it must be that you didnt flash it properly, the 3.3 rom boots without problems on the hero
wipe/factory reset
wipe dalvik
wipe/factory rest
off
boot recovery
flash
reboot
setup
reboot
done!

Nope... I'm not new to flashing ROM. Almost flash to the level where I need to in an Anonymous Flash-oholics group.
I did do a full wipe and wipe the dalvik cache before I flashed the 3.3 rom.
I also re-flashed, tryed wipeing before and after, wiped the dalvik cache before and after...
The reason I do not have a ext part on my SD is, that I do not install so many applications, that I run out of space. And the speed of the internal mem is alot faster.
For keeping my apps between flashs, I find titanium back to be the best solution.
Is a ext part need to run the 3.3? I ran almost all the other villain rom version, without a ext part.

Hey,
I also have problems installing 3.3 ROM. I have a running 3.2 VillainROM but 3.3 will just not install! I did factory/ rest wipe + Davlik wipe but stuck @ bootscreen again! I do have a ext3 (or 2) partition which I did not flash, but the installing of 3.2 worked fine so I guess its a problem with 3.3...

[Q] Install ROM after full data wipe question

So back on my Evo 4G whenever I wanted to flash a new rom, I would load it on my SD card. Then boot into custom recovery and wipe cache/Dalvik... Then would wipe ALL data/factory reset. Then I would install my new rom off of my SD card.
With my S3, I cannot access anything on my SD via CWM recovery. I have a SDXC card formatted to FAT32 and am on Blazer 1.8
I want to do a full data wipe before flashing new ROMS, but I am worried that if I do, I won't have a way of getting a zip file back on my phone after doing so.
It ALMOST seems like. Remember being able to access my SD in CWM when I was on a stock rooted rom. But I'm not positive.
How does one do a wipe data option in CWM and then get a flash able zip back on the phone afterwards if the SD card is not available to see and move data to/from?
I don'tanna end up wiping all data and then finding out that I hav no way of installing/restoring a rom.
Thanks!

Move on to TWRP for your recovery, much more features but if you don't want to do that go to CWM's website and update to 6.0 it will allow you to "see" your sd card

+1 on TWRP, much nicer and more features and themable To install, download GooManager open it and grant SU access then tap menu and select "Install OpenRecoveryScript" and it'll do the rest.
BTW you're following the process ok, except you're doing one additional step that is not required that is to wipe cache and dalvik. When you factory reset you're deleting the data partition which also has both cache. It should be wipe system then do factory reset, flash the ROM after that and you should be all set.
Install stock JB LS8 after wipe
I got info on how to wipe the phone using CW mode. It does explain to format boot and system partition and ask to reboot. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410881)I was left in confusion. If boot is formatted, would CW mode work after reboot ? After full wipe, can I get GT-I9100 in download mode and do stock rom installation using ODIN ? Thanks in advance.

Formatting Boot will not affect CWM. CWM is your receovery not your boot. Also after a full wipe you should be able to get into download mode to flash via ODIN.
Install TWRP or update CWM, one version of CWM had a bug and don't let you access the sdcard.
If you choose TWRP, in the Format Menu, DO NOT use "Format Data" Second Row/Right Option. It will delete your data on the internal storage.
Sent from my morphed O=O
Make sure you have the most recent version of CWM. I can access both internal and external storage. It's downloadable from the ClockworkMod app.

How to Flash a ROM Properly?
I recommend the following procedures because it is safe and recommended by CyanogenMod and also I recommend the users of Clockworkmod Recovery v5.0.2.7, to update for v6.0.2.9 which is Pretty Good & Working Perfectly.
How to Flash a ROM Properly using Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.9 ?
For Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.9, DarkSide Super Wipe & DarkSide Cache Wipe Zips are not necessary
Reboot to Clockworkmod Recovery
1. Backup Current ROM.
2. Go to Wipe data/factory reset, then Do a Wipe Cache.
3. Go to Mounts and Storage, then Format /system -> Format /data & Format /cache.
4. Go to Advanced, then Do a Wipe dalvik cache.
5. Install the ROM Zip from the SD Card or Internal Memory & then Install New GApps for CM10.1.
6. Reboot and Let the ROM settle for 5-10 minutes.
Note: Restore apps without data if your are using any backup tools such as TitaniumBackup etc., Restoring Apps with data cause Problems
How to Update ROM Properly?
After Installing CM10.1, If you want to update to new Nightly or Stable, a full wipe is not required.
We can do a Dirty Flash as Follows. This will not erase data & its Safe.
1. Reboot to Clockworkmod Recovery
2. Do a Wipe cache partition
3. Go to Advanced, then Do a Wipe dalvik cache
4. Install the ROM Zip from the SD Card or Internal Memory & Reboot.

n00b here, needing help with first custom ROM install

Hi everyone,
I'm a n00bie to custom ROM's but have the itch to get moving on one.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 n7100 (international model).
It is currently running stock android 4.4.2 but I am sick of the Samsung bloatware and want to get it similar to a nexus experience.
I have been reading on different ROM's and like the sound of BlissPOP, Resurrection Remix & of course Cynaogenmod.
So far I have done the following:
1) rooted the stock ROM
2) Installed TWRP 3.0.0-0
3) removed apps and data (to make backup smaller)
4) performed a ROM backup using TWRP
I am wondering if I get some help with the next steps as I have read slightly varying steps.
I think I have my mind set on flashing resurrection remix android 5.1.1, given it has been out since late last year; but have also looked at resurrection remix android 6.0.1 & blissPOP android 6.0.1 ROMS.
I have the ROM + Gapps downloaded and on my ext SD card.
The steps that I am familiar with is:
1) reboot into recovery - TWRP
2) do factory reset/wipe data
3) wipe cache
4) wipe dalvik cache
5) choose ROM zip to install
6) choose Gapps zip and install
However the new TWRP 3.0.0-0 is slightly different.
So I guess my questions are:
1) TWRP 3.0.0-0 has one quick option which does everything. Is this ok to do OR should I go into advanced and select each separately and wipe?
2) Should I have the ROM & Gapps on my ext SD Card or the internal SD card? If on the internal SD card, will this not get wiped with the factory reset/wipe data?
3) Do I removed SD card before first power up after installed?
Thanks for any help. I'm really looking forward to giving my phone and 'update' and seeing better performance.
Just want to make sure that I am doing everything correctly and not missing anything to give myself the best chance of success.
This is my primary phone so don't want anything to go wrong.
Thanks again and look forward to replies and any suggestions you may have.
cheers

1. Full wipe is what you need
2. You can copy files after wipe to internal, just mount it
3. Do not remove sd card
Before that make EFS backup
Hi Yaro,
1) Full wipe: is this done from within TWRP?
2) TWRP 3 appears to already work with ext SD. So you say copy from ext SD to phone/int SD card? So I should be able to do this from within TWRP?
I have done a separate EFS backup already
I'm reading good things about RR Android 6.0.1 ROM. Is there any difference in installing that to say RR 5.1.1?

1. Yes, in twrp you have option to wipe everything to make a clean install, or you can select everything and wipe it - i.e. internal, cache, dalvik...
2. You can connect your phone after wipe, then copy rom and gapps from pc or just go with external sd.
Do not worry you already did the hardest part.
I was using rr 5.1.1, very good rom, but you have to test dor yourself. Now I'm sticking with cm13 build 9, just pure rom, fast, nice, smooth.
You seems good to go with custom roms, give it a try
Hi Yarro,
sorry to be a pain.
In TWRP I have the following:
- on main screen, select 'WIPE'
- shows this screen will do a 'factory reset' which wipes data, cache and dalvik (not including internal storage)
- there is also a 'FORMAT DATA' button and 'ADVANCED WIPE' button
- under 'ADVANCED WIPE' there is selectable options:
- Davik/ART Cache
- Cache
- System
- Data
- Internal Storage
- Micro SDCard
- USB OTG
Select what is wanted and then use slider to wipe
So, should I....
(1) perform the factory reset which wipes data, cache and dalvik (not including internal storage) in one step?
(2) then install fro ext sd card and choose the rr 5.1.1, wait for completion
(3) then install from ext sd card and choose gapps
- Also is there need to confirm MD5 of the ROM before installing?
Cheers
Hi Yaro,
So I have given it a try.
- Booted into TWRP 3.0.0-0
- Performed factory reset (which does cache, data, dalvik)
- attempted install but got error 7
- phone still boot to factory rom
- I copied blisspop android 6 rom to sd card
- again attempted install but got same error 7
I read somewhere that someone had the same issue and they changed recovery to CWM and then they could install ROMs
I am currently restoring my phone using the backup I did prior.
I will then change recovery to CWM, take a new a new backup and then give it another go
I am having trouble getting CWM recovery installed.
I originally installed CWM via ROM Manager.
I then tried to change to TWRP via ROM Manager but although it said it was installed, CWM was actually installed.
I got TWRP installed by using TWRP Manager ( also installed Busy Box).
I am now trying to use ROM Manager to install CWM again but although it says it has installed it TWRP is still on.
I have now used TWRP manager to backdate/install version 2.8.7.0 which has worked.
Unsure whether to try this earlier version of TWRP or get CWM installed.
Can anyone help with getting CWM installed and why ROM Manager is doing what it says it is?

U are coming from stock rom and u need to format preload etc which TWRP can't format. Go to philz recovery thread somewhere at last posts a member had post a link for a modified version of recovery 6.58 something. Download this zip, install it with TWRP and reboot at recovery again. Now with philz recovery format: preload, system, cache, dalvik and data and after install rom and gapps, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot to system. Prefer latest RR 5.1.1 from varund's thread and don't use earlier version of philz recovery because it can't install latest gapps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=61703745
RR needs sometime for first boot if it does more than 5 minutes to boot means that is in bootloop push the power button some seconds until the phone to reboot and the second time will boot ok
Hi Porto,
Thanks for the advice.
I have Philz recovery installed.
I can see the format options under custom format options.
I found how to perform a backup to ext sd card.
Backup was done on data, system, boot partitions. I will do a separate backup of efs.
Do you recommend any other partition backups?
You mention RR 5.1.1, do you see any issues with flashing RR 6.0.1?
Cheers
thanks

Installing custom roms

I'm having issues installing any custom roms. I can install the Xiaomi.eu rom fine. I've tried installing a few others and after starting up, I see a few seconds of a spash screen, then it goes back to recovery.
Each time before installing the rom I clear cache, system and data. Then I do the cache clean before starting up. I've also tried doing a full data clean and hasn't helped either.
Whenever it fails, I reinstall the xiaomi.eu rom and once again it works fine.
Phone is unlocked and I get the unlocked image when starting up my phone.
Any ideas?
format, not wipe data
Follow These Steps:
1)Reboot to Recovery
2)Wipe>Format>Yes
3)Reboot to recovery again
4)Wipe>Advanced Wipe>Select Dalvik, Cache, Data and just wipe it (And other necessary partitions) [Don't Wipe Internal storage or SD card]
5)Now go to install and click on the ROM where you have stored it, Flash the zip file
6)Now wipe>Format>Yes
7) Now reboot to System
