Just got a refurb unit of the 10.1 and so far so good. One problem I noticed is the YouTube app will only only play you tube videos at a max of 720 and I can't figure out for the life of me why? I have the latest you tube app updated and even downgraded to older versions. Anyone else have this issue or know how I can fix this?

Does it player higher quality on any of your other devices? Because mines does not. Which means its google and not our tablets.
Of course it does. My lg g3 plays up to 1440p. My 2 year old 2012 nexus 7 plays 720p with only a 720p display. It's making me think this device only has a 720p display but that can't be possible.

Anybody find a solution to this? I'm having the same problem with my sm-t520 and my note 3 plays 1080p resolution videos.

it does, to which my Galaxy S2 using mother said WOW when she watched one.
In the YouTube app I had to go into the settings and check use HD video. After that the videos looked a lot better.

Do you mean the 'High quality on mobile' setting in the General section? That just defaults the playback to HD when not connected through wifi. HD streaming on youtube can consume quite a bit of data if you are on a mobile network thats why its set by default to low def in the settings.
Mark.
Thanks for the answers guys - as an avoid YouTube watcher, I am excited for the 720p vids!

Mine does not run 720p vids.
It even feels like 360p.
I can only use 3g though.

As mentioned if you enable 'High quality on mobile' in the general settings then you 'should' be able to watch 720p streams over 3g but it will consume alot of data.
Mark.
For some odd reason, my YouTube app seems to be playing the wrong video all the time on Wi-Fi. Perhaps something to do with my ISP?
I can only watch HD videos when on wifi. HD dosent work over 3G any fix?

This does not work on my phone.
I have unlimited data on Three so I dont care about my Data Consumption however videos still play at something around 360p even with HQ on and the options ticked in the settings.
I have the same issue. HD over mobile checked in youtube, but still can't view videos in 720p. Any one got a solution?
I hooked my Galaxy Nexus up to my 50" plasma, and Youtube looked great on there. Netflix looked horrible.
I unrooted and went back to the stock 4.0.2 and videos are still not showing up in 720p while on 3g. The reason I tried that was because I vaguely remember that it worked when I first got my galaxy nexus. Anyway, going to go back to 4.0.1 and see if that helps.

I'm pretty sure its disabled because buffering a 720p video over 3g would be insanely slow.

Thanks. You're probably right. It's just that using the youtube desktop site with the browser, I have no problem viewing/buffering any 720p on my 3g network. If only you can force the resolution manually in the youtube app.

Awesome! Although I don't use flash as often on Mobile devices. Its still nice to have.
Seems to be the good old flash, already crashed my phone in the first 30 minutes whilst using it.
720p youtube videos, whilst looking good has lagging audio.

Wonder why they are ok, do you not find a gap between audio and video after a couple of minutes?
Was watching a video on amazon prime and after 10 seconds, my phone crashed and rebooted itself
haven't tested intensively and it appeared alright. It was just 480p video though
Need a hulufied version.
how to watch the full daily show:
1. open a new incognito window
2. turn on 'request desktop site'
3. go to www.thedailyshow.com -- which seems to redirect you to www.comedycentral.com from where you can click the daily show and click full episode
(the incognito window is to prevent their website from reading your cookies, because if you previously tried to visit their website from your phone they will remember)

Installed it and the adobe flash test page appears to be working ok!
Any good mobile flash websites worth checking out?
Installed it last night, works but it slows the browser right down.
Just have it disabled untill I think I will want to use it. Which won't be any time soon!

Flash is working flawlessly on mine. I've been playing 1080p embedded youtube videos without any trouble, I'm very impressed I wasn't expecting such perfect performance from it tbh.
I quote tung_meister, i discovered the ICS Flash is pretty good, also with Flash always on the browser is still fantastic and smooth

What is going on Adobe??
I remembered the YouTube app a few month ago would display HD video even on 3G, but now, even with a 6mbps 3G connection , it only displays HQ option instead of HD. And the quality is not good enough. How do I solve this problem?
Depends on the video. Is it the exact same video?

Try using some old youtube.apk and don't let it to be updated it Play Store. There was similar thread some time ago, and i think someone even mentioned since which [youtube] version this option has been removed.

Yes, the same exact video
Is YouTube Pixilated for everyone using the app or only those running custom ROMs like CM11? The only work around for me was using the previous version (4.x) of the YouTube app. But then you miss out on the new UI and floating Window.

youtube's app doesnt support hd playback. The HQ option is 480p actually and not HD. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579795

That method, viral, and the old YouTube app produce the same video quality in HD mode. It's the new YouTube app that shows horrible quality on the G Pad in HD. Its weird because on my phones the new app has always shown HD in actual HD.

Is anyone able to get 2K out even 1080 to work? Highest video quality I can select is 720, which is only a quarter resolution of the screen, and it shows.
You have to root your device and delete your recent YouTube app and install previous version to enable 1080p and 1440p
No root needed...search google for version 5.9.0.10. Install...profit

T-Mobile note4 couldn't install because it was already installed in the system .... So in my case I had to delete the app from inside the system ..... And uninstalled all updates .... And disable auto update from play store ....
I got it working with 5.10.1.5. Don't get why Google removed the option though. Are there any benefits to 5.9 over 5.10?

Yes true on the steps. I didn't have to remove the system app though. Just uninstalled the updates and it worked for me after unchecking auto updates in play store.

Thank you so much!!! I was incredibly disappointed that my brand new phone with a 2k screen could only get 720p youtube. Amazing clarity now.
So does anybody have a fix for hulu? On my HTC M7, there was an HD quality setting that was better than high. On this phone I can only get medium and high setting. Even high is pretty pixelated. Would love to see it in 1080p. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yes the 1440 is very nice!. Had to uninstall updates, then install apk. And I'm running dalvik. Had a few issues with art and never saw a performance increase.
I'm running in ART mode, wondering if that is why I can't get 1080p or 1440p with the 5.9 version. Guess I'll switch back to Dalvik and see if that makes a difference.

Changed back to Dalvik, uninstalled updates and then reinstalled 5.9v. Now I have 1080p and 1440p options, but when I select them, it stays on the default 720p selection. No idea where the issue is, but I'm too tired to play around with it more tonight. Thanks for the feedback photoshopgeek.

Odd.. I had no problems. If I start up youtube again, it defaults lower, but when I switch it stays for that session.
Couldn't get 1080 or 1440 to work on 5.9. 5.10 works fine for me though. Occasionally I have to restart the video to get the setting to stick
