Hello, just trade-in my Galaxy Note for the Note 2 LTE. Before I sold my Galaxy Note, I exported the data to my external sd card. After I bought the Galaxy Note 2, I inserted it into the device. It seems that everything is in "My Files/extSdCard". I have a few questions:
1. Whenever I open /storage/extSdCard/DCIM, the sign Processing... shows up and the circle keeps spinning, I have to wait for about 20 seconds in order for the list shows up. My external sd card is SanDisk 16GB micro HC. As far as I recall, it is about class 4 or 5. As the GNote 2 is faster, is it time to get a faster SD card? Which one do you recommend? I take lots of photos and videos.
2. When I opened "/storage/extSdCard/DCIM", there is list of files all with strange symbols as filenames. What are they? Why the filenames became strange symbols?
3. When I pressed Gallery, there are only four folders namely: Camera(4), Camera(211). DCIM(2), Video(1). I found a lot of photos missing. How can I put everything back to original locations as if the Galaxy Note 2 were my original Note?
Thanks.

Well, 1st and 2nd questions gives out the idea that partitioning of that sd card is problematic. Take it out, format with fat32 (assuming you have non-exfat supported kernel) retry. If you have the same issues, the sd card may be fake-formatted. (that actually happens) What I mean with fake format is, you sometimes buy an sd card from an unauthorized seller, or a website, it shows 16gb-32gb and so on, but it actually is lower capacity.
3rd question shall be related too.
And for speed issues, which i profoundly find adequate for my note2, download romtoolbox or any sdbooster. Increase cache a little bit. Depends on your choice.
That is an interesting idea. I got the sd card from a reputable electronic store in HK. It was a gift, advertised on Samsung HK's website, when I bough the Galaxy Note in the summer.
My N7100 recently had many issues like loosing WiFi and Bluetooth devices (not just connections but devices!) with different ROM/kernels, even full stock no-root included.
After few hours to few days WiFi just disappeared and when I tried to turn it back on the settings slider just returned back to off. Same correct for BT.
Reboot and ROM flashing usually didn't help.
I had to turn the phone off for few hours, turn back on and both WiFi and BT reappeared. In a couple of days the same problem returned and so on.
I removed the Kingston 64/10 card used from the very first day and everything OK now for about a week.
I have to admit the Kingston microSD 64Gb class 10 (genuine, full 64Gb, verified) has issues with N7100.
Could you recommend me another 64/10 or better card know to be nice with N7100?
Thanks.
Don't go for sandisk... NEVER
I suggest a samsung one. .. worth the price

Hm,I use a 16 GB Kingston...No issues at all.But I think the phone itself is defective in your case..Better call Sammy
I guess this is a sdxc and its possible that the note 2 doesn't Support sdxc look in the Manual or Data sheet for supported sd cards ...

I tried my old Samsung 32/10 and it works flawlessly. So it's not a Note 2 problem or at least not a kind of unfixable problem.
Regarding SDXC and SDHC I'm not sure. Is it so complicated difference?
Kingston 64/10 actually works more or less just having issues. Seems to me there is kind of short circuit for millisecond happen during SD access and it somehow locks radio modules BT & WiFi. 3G and GPS are fine. FM I didn't check...
I'm going for Samsung 64/10 or 64/super1 in a couple of months, not before...
So I just got my tmobile note 2 as a small upgrade from my s3 just over 2 weeks ago and I've been having this issue ever since I took it out of the box brand new.. But I'll go to wake the phone from sleep and I'll get a "SD card removed unexpectedly" error immediately followed by "SD card blank" although I have 14GB of just music and pictures stored on there. I think I've tried everything now to fix it and I just haven't gotten any solution as of yet.
All of this was happening on a 32 GB class 10 sandisk extreme card that came from my s3 working perfectly and formatted then reloaded with backup data when it was moved to my note. After the first day I thought the card had died after I couldn't get it to work at all anymore so I went out and bought another brand new class 10 card except this time 64gb and I'm getting the same issues so I know its not the card. Ive tried restarting the phone which works from time to time. then I'll be playing music and it'll freeze on my and remove as soon as I unlock the screen. I even went from stock ROM with numerous kernels.. To numerous other ROMs on numerous kernels and no changes there.. I've also tried a completely formatted SD card and I still get the issue upon unlock after thinking it may just be corrupted files..

That's probably because it's been beaten to death already. If you would have used the search, you would have found this thread ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031009&highlight=sd+card+removed+unexpectedly

In short, the issue is the card.
Sandisk sucks, that's about the gist of it.
Ok, I'm pissed! just downloaded the new Kitkat update for my note 8. Everything was going well nice fast better life & then boom! I'm unable to use my SD card! Sorry Samsung you F*** Nutz you don't have enough space on the internal drive for jack, and why would you give user the ability to place a 64gb micro sd card in one of your devices and frelling take it away! "Up Yours Samsung fix this ****!"
Ok with that being said does anyone know how to fix this issue? Not rooted but will do if needs be. Help!

The only way is to root with CF auto root and run an app to allow SD card use.
There is now way I am going to allow 4.4.2 to load on my device.

It is not Samsung, it is Google that requires all manufacturers to make the permission changes in KitKat. You can easily fix it by rooting and doing a search.

First of all, you really need to chill. This issue has been well known since KK was released, and it has nothing to do with Samsung. This is the way Google has implemented SD card access in 4.4.2.
The solution is not difficult. Root and install an app from the play store that will reenable SD card access. Or use a file manager app that can work within Android's new framework for SD cards. I believe Solid Explorer can do it, as can the stock file manager app. I am pretty sure all of the stock Samsung apps can access the SD card.
I want everyone to know that I did root and got back access to my SD card. As for fault, it is both Samsung's & Google's both can go stroke each other. I was a big fan of Samsung, My first tablet was the note 10.1, Now when I was given the, "ok" to purchase a new tablet, I was looking for the s-pen and something a little lighter. I was excited Note 8 lighter faster and I had enough to add a 64gb card. I really didn't want to Root my Note 8 and now I have to worry about my S4 mini. I support Samsung & Google for a lot of there products, (Note 10.1, 8, Tab 7, S3, S3 mini, S4 mini, Gear 2) but with the new update it felt like both grabbed a red hot poker and shove it where the sun don't shine. I sorry I don't get the logic in cutting access to the biggest storage area of your phone & tablet!

Your colorful metaphors notwithstanding, there is nothing you can do about it.

I agree, why?
The solution is simple, root.

The reason is Google is all about the "CLOUD". They don't want manufacturers to use sdcards and want everything to be stored in the cloud. They are in bed with the cellular companies and internet providers and want to maximize profits by forcing you to pay more for data.
I agree the simple solution was root, But I did not want to root! If I wanted to root, I would of done it the day I bought it. I get the cloud thing is a big deal and a lot of the phones I see lately are getting away from SD cards but if you know the device has one make either special firmware for those devices that have sd cards. Or a patch that will work from the manufacturer, I would say 70% of people that received the update didn't care that they lost access to their sd card. Agree 2GB for a month is a joke!

Hello. I recently picked up a galaxy tab s 8.4 for cheap (137.00). It's used but in pretty much mint condition. I'm hoping to use the tablet for a laptop replacement for some light duty activities but I need to get past a few hurdles first.
My first problem is that I bought a 128gb PNY High Performance microsd card to use for some of my stuff. The card works fine in multiple devices, including my camera and MacBook pro. However, when I put the card into the tab s things go south. The Tab S sees it just fine, sees that it's 128gb and can read from the card. However, if I try to write to the card using my files or File Commander or some other app the card becomes currupted, gets umounted and is no longer readable by any device. Contents are gone too. My macbook pro will do nothing with it (cant even format it) and the tab s doesnt recognize that theres a card in the slot at all. The only device that will do anything with the card is my camera, which will format the card. Now the card works again in everything except if I write to it in the tab s it corrupts, unmount and no longer recognized again. If I use an old 32gb card I don't have these issues. It works no matter what I do, it's just not enough space.
I've done a bunch of reading and from what I can tell this card should work. However, some reading suggests the tab S doesn't support 128gb while other reading suggests there's a problem in 5.0.2. I don't know if I'm better off ordering a 64gb card or a different 128gb card. What are people using successfully in the tab s 8.4? Any other recommendations? I'd like to stay with 128gb if possible.
My next problem is more of an observation. It seems the battery on this tablet runs out rather quick. I'm lucky to get 4, maybe 5, hours of steady use and then it's dead. Is that typical?
Thanks for any insights.
R
The Tab S1 supports 128gb with no problems i have an 128gb myself make sure to format the microsd in the Tab S, using the setting menu, compatibility with some brand could be a problem, I stick to Samsung or Sandisk , are you certain your microsd is 100% genuine, if you have an notebook and an microsd to sdhc adapter use the software H2TESTW in link below to check it`s genuine and that it is free from errors.
About your battery life, depending on how much you use your Tab S 8.4" 4-5hours seems about right, I have the 10.5" so i am not certain, maybe an 8.4" owner with give more accurate estimation.
One thing to watch out with the 8.4" try not to bend it, as the battery connector can come loose, this is the cause of the majority of battery problems, see if you can get a case that will add some stiffness to reduce the chance of it bending.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the card and it is indeed genuine. It reports correct size and manufacturer and I have copied 128gb worth of video to it to confirm using my macbook. I was already leery of a fake card when I ordered it so that was the first thing I did was to make sure it was authentic.
I have the Samsung book case which is very thin. I'm actually looking to add the Samsung keyboard and use it that way but apparently samsung didn't market the bronze keyboard for the 8.4 in the USA (only the white and black are readily available) so I'll source it from overseas once I know this thing is working soundly.
What format is the card in, ExFAT or FAT32?
I would always stick to decent brands with a card that size, you don't want 120 odd gigs of data going south.
You could try partitioning the card in 2 and see if it gets handled any better.
I don't think the second partition will be seen by the OS but a file manager should be able to access it.
Also I take it you are rooted with write access to the card?
The card is indeed exFat formatted. I hear you on cheap cards and losing data, perhaps I should have just gone for the quality 64gb Samsung Pro just for peace of mind. If this card doesn't work out I'll send it back and get something better.
I'm not rooted, no but i am running 5.0.2 stock. I'm able to write to the cards fine through various apps, including My Files, File Commander, ES File Explorer and a wireless sync app. I have to grant each app access to the card, but after that I can write to it just fine.
I'd send it back and swap it for a Samsung evo card.
I got the Samsung 128GB Evo Plus and it works great, read max=80MBs write max =20MBs according to specs, Warning there are a lot of fake Samsung EVO microsd, but i have yet to see an fake EVO Plus YET!!!
John.
Below is the speeds i get with my "Samsung 128GB Evo Plus" in my T800 formatted as ExFat by the Tab S
