When I get my Note2 I am immediately going to buy SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC Mobile Ultra.
But the salesman told me that 64GB don't work very well with smartphones. I did quick search and saw some SIII user having issues with their 64GB card (Showing files on computer).
Is it true? I highly doubt the salesman knowledge of smartphones but I don't want to waste money on expensive card.
It must work with note2 as it perfectly works with s2...

Everything is a guess at this point. Just make sure you buy a retail SanDisk card, not a knockoff...hard to tell these days. And that it's formatted in a specified file format.
I've been using a 64GB on the Galaxy S and SII Skyrocket without problems for some time now. It's just a little slow.

No dice on two separate 64GB SDXC cards in my GSIII, both real deals from Amazon, a solution I read was to format it with a PC to FAT32 but my intention was HD content (i.e. 4GB+) so that was a no go. Now I have two 32GB SDHC cards which work perfectly. YMMV
It is quiet simple. That may be work or not...... I also saw few cases where 64 gb card not work perfectly.
Specs for the Note 2 on Samsung site say it will officially support 64gb sd card where I think most other phones only support 32gb but can still work with 64gb, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also 128gb would be a really nice match to that quad core and 2gb ram.
Samsung claims the S3 supports 64GB cards formatted as exFAT, but it, in fact, does not. Unless they corrected the issue with the Note 2, you have to format your 64GB card as FAT32. It will still work, but you lose some significant advantages by doing so. As far as I know, Samsung has not acknowledged the issue.
I am using a 64gb SanDisk micro SDXC in my Galaxy Note I as a type. I did have to use a special program to format it into Fat32 though, because my windows 7 PC didn't allow me to format it as Fat32. The name of the program eludes me at the moment, but I will post it again once I remember.
Why woold you ever listen to a sales rep?

This tool is helpful because the quick format is disabled in Windows for anything over 32GB (GUI shows nothing and command prompt only allows complete format, which is really slow).
This tool will save you time, as it allows for quick formatting of 32GB+ MicroSD cards in Windows.

SD card
64 gb card works great.
Good lord, so much poor information in this thread.
Firstly, the S3 DOES work with exFAT formatted 64GB micro SDXC cards, Samsung explicitly added support for exFAT with specific drivers for it (check Supercurios Voodoo Report breakdown for further confirmation). That's why Samsung said that it works with cards up to 64GB in their official announcement, where they have not said that before (even though all their phones work with the 64GB cards when formatted to Fat32).
I have used one in my International S3 for a couple of months since release, and now in my AT&T S3 for something like a month without any issues whatsoever. There are some people who had issues, but it's not clear what the cause is as far as I'm aware.
Even if exFAT support is not offered the Note 2 will work with Fat32-formatted 64GB cards. I have no doubt whatsoever about that - they have worked in every device I've ever tried them in when formatted to Fat32. That's more than a dozen devices now including Symbian handsets, and Android devices running on Froyo and every version of the OS since then: http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html. They have been confirmed working in various feature phones even.
If anyone is still in doubt I will post confirmation with my Note II when it comes early October (or earlier if Samsung have their release event here in NZ before then).
Size doesn't matters
In fact size doesn't matters (that's what she said... wait, no... )
I have a 128 GB SDcard perfectly working on my note 1 with an microSD<>SDcard adapter, because FAT32 formatted (I never tried exFAT filesystem, I don't know how classical linux OS handle it)
So I'd say as long as you stick with the old Fat32, it will be alright !
(the system seems to be quite ok with it, except that it takes a while when rebuilding the database for music... Because of the 95+ GB of it.
I know that there is a size limitation in windows when formating in FAT32 system, but this limitation doesn't exist in linux, and I have used Hardrives of 1 TB fat32 formatted under linux and windows without any problems, except this 4GB file size limitation...
Boujou bien!
Couple of questions for 64gb card users:
1. How much time does it it take to fill up the card with music files?
2. How much time does it take for the Note 2 to scan the database?
Thanks in advance

In relation to your second question:
Media scanning (after the initial one) doesn't take too long - much better to use something like PowerAMP that has its own separate library though. For one thing PowerAMP can read tags properly, and secondly you can exclude your music folder from the stock app so the system doesn't index it.

Thanks again man!.
Actually i was settling for Player Pro since it's my idea to keep on using my iTunes generated smart playlists which are based on the last played criteria and rating. Hence Player Pro / iSynchr looked well suited for that task.
Do some research on Power Amp but it's my intention to stay away from any digital sound processing which seems to be Power Amp strongest suit. I'd want it keep the signal path as simple as headphone out + UM3x.
I bought that exact card, hopefully I will get it later today. EXCITED.

Fair point, I'm almost always listening through a DAC so sound processing doesn't bother me, I like a lot of the other features from PowerAMP. Sounds like you're all set though!
I'm looking to buy a Sandisk Ultra either 32gb or 64gb (was looking for 64 but now I'm having second thoughts).
Since 64gb exFAT seems a no-go and FAT32 is very inefficient for such a "large" drive... can I format a 32gb microSD in exFAT and so take advantage of that file system in my Note2? Thans in advance for the answer, I'm buying on Monday and need to make a choice =)
i got just that 64gb card and it works flawless.
Hi people I have a little problem, I had buyed a Micro Sd 32gb Class 10 Ultra for mi Tab 3 7.0, the tablet show the 32gb, but the problem is when I tried to create folders or copy thing to the sd from the same Tablet, example: copy music from Sdcard0 to extSDcard and say "error could not be writte to"
I probed the Micro sd in a THL W5 and in LG Optimus L5 2 and works Fine, in my pc also works fine, the problem is with the tablet
(I have formated the Sd a lots of time but the problem persist)
anyone know what is the problem? This tablet support ultra micro sd?
SD cards have been annoying the crap out of me for the past week. Between discrepancies between how my PC reads em and how Android (or at least the T211) reads em, difficulty xferring files via USB, etcetera....personally I found out the bulk of my problems had to do with: an Amazon marketplace seller sold me a counterfeit SanDisk card, and before I realized the card was counterfeit (and more generally how prevalent counterfeit cards are), I purchased a Samsung 64GB card off of Ebay, turned out to be fake as well. The SanDisk fake was convincing, the Samsung as well although all the white text on the SD Card wore off within days.
Anyways I bought a legit SD card yesterday, and encountered similar problems to what you are having. IMO, save your files, and re-format the SD card using the tablet and not your PC, if you haven't done so. If you have done so, don't know what to tell you.
I thought I would start a thread on which Micro SD cards were recommended vs. those that fail early or are simply not compatible. I saw a thread earlier that appeared to show that some cards (and sizes) were better than others.
I can report that the Samsung 64GB card (says Class 10, HC, 24MB Read, 7MB Write) does NOT work in this tablet. I was able to use it just fine in my Note 2, and a laptop. However, the card doesn't work properly in my 2014 Note 10.1. An older Pansonic 16GB MicroSD card worked just fine however. I've tried formatting it in other machines, and it's still a bust. Currently, these cards are selling like wildfire on Ebay for $30.
So, what DOES work for a 64GB card? Any help is appreciated by myself and I'm sure a lot of others reading this forum.
Thanks in advance.
I have got a SanDisk 64GB card in mine. Also got the same type in My Note 3.
The SD card issue seems a bit odd, both of my cards were also fine in my older Note 10.1 and the Note 2. I've never had a problem with either of them
Samsung 64GB works just fine.
I have a 64GB Samsung MicroSD and it works just fine, haven't had to do anything to it, worked right out of the box.
Its a Samsung 64GB Class 10, UHS-1, Grade 1, 70MB/s MicroSDXC Pro Memory Card
I always buy memory cards directly from Amazon because there are a lot of fakes out there, so I know for sure this is a genuine product.
This is the exact one I purchased

i've tested my 64GB sandisk on my gn8 for a week now with no issues at all. one day after being put back in the gn10.1 2014 and it's acting up again. files, fail to delete, wrong size reported, inaccessable, etc. the 32GB sandisk works fine. both are uhs-1 formated exfat. take it out without reformatting and it works fine on my gn8 and pc. put it back on the gn10.1 and it won't mount without a reboot.

Problem solved...
Hey guys, thanks for the info. After some research I discovered that this was indeed a fake card I ordered from Ebay. Looks like this is a common problem as the packaging is *almost* perfect and you really can't tell the difference without some serious research. Luckily, the seller refunded the full amount back to me. Based on your feedback here I've ordered a SanDisk Ultra from Amazon.
Thanks for the help and & Happy Thanksgiving!

A really good way to check them is to simply try to fill it up. Only 4G of data will be saved and readable, whereas the other 60GB is corrupt.

It's sad that a lot of people get duped into buying fakes. But sites like ebay don't/can't do anything about it.
Memory cards/Usbs should only be bought from reputable sellers only (Amazon, Currys, Play.com etc) as there are wayyyy too many fakes out there.
I'm currently using a Transcend 64GB SDXC UH-1 Class 10 card which was formatted using the tablet.
It works fine except for one annoying problem. When transferring large, singe or multiple files, say 1.5GB+ HD movie or a huge amount of photos, from internal to external storage, the device would freeze. After it starts up again i notice that i can no longer access my SD card even though the device says it's still mounted. The only way i can fix this is by removing and reinserting the card or rebooting the device. Although there's no problem transferring files from a computer straight to the SD card.
Anybody encountered a problem like this? Is there anyway to fix it?

Yes, I'm having the same issue. Except the SD card will randomly lose the files even though it still shows the card is still mounted. Just recently I was watching a movie from the sd card and this happened.
I am using a SanDisk that was being used in my note 2 for the past year (never had problems with it before).
This is especially frustrating when trying to sync files with Plex.

Same for me
I know I'll sound like a noob, but my 32gb Samsung micro sd card just doesn't seem to work on galaxy note 10.1 2014, yet it worked perfectly fine on my previous note. Would i have to format the card on my computer? A little bit annoying since I don't have a reader for it.
My Sandisk does not work
I have a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card 30MB/s SDSDQUA-064G-U46A that has a lot of problems working in my GN 10.1-14. It has worked fine for a year in the old Note 10.1. The New Note would not even format it. Formatted it in my Galaxy S4, and it kind of works. Often it simply reports no files, although it will report in Settings the correct size and space available. Sometimes I have to reboot several times for the card to work. then sometimes I will try to open a file and get an I/O error. Then sometimes random reboots, especially if I try to unmount it.
I use a Samsung Pro 64GB microSDXC (UHS-1) Class 10 card (MB-MGCGB/AM) reformatted to FAT32. Works great. I've been using the same type card on my LG Optimus G for almost 8 months 100% problem free (also formatted to FAT32). I did have issues with a SanDisk Ultra 32GB in that same phone that used to dismount itself all the time and I know others that have had issues with SanDisk cards in GoPros as well.
ok, so which one of these sandisk ultra microsd cards will work in the 10.1 2014 edition, and what is the difference between them?

Anyone else getting this error? I have a 64M SanDisk that was working just fine in my note 2. I put it in my notes and I continually get this error. I unmounted, removed and power cycled my phone but it comes back any time I try to access the card. Any ideas?
I would backup the contents of it onto your computer and reformat the card. Then try it.
I've been getting this error when my phone wakes after being idle for a long time. I've tried reformatting the card but I'm skeptical that will fix the problem. According to many online threads, this issue has been widespread across a number of devices, and my card (Sandisk 64GB Ultra CL10) works fine in other devices. Will report back.
This is a common problem with the Samsungs...There is a proper process, as follows.
First, go ahead and do a fresh format of the card and get the contents onto the card.
Second, turn the phone completely off AND REMOVE THE BATTERY.
Put the card into the card slot, replace the battery and power the phone back on.
This has been my process since the sII, and haven't had any issues, save a few completely corrupted cards which were unsalvageable. There is an issue where the card receives current from the battery, and in some cases can corrupt the card and in even fewer (but still entirely plausible cases) completely fry the SD.
I'm not sure why Samsung hasn't caught the issue, or even acknowledged it, but this process avoids it entirely.
Hope this helps
Thanks, I tried that but it made no difference.
The uSD card continues to work fine in my other devices, and diagnostic tests reveal no problems with it, so I'm confident the card itself is ok.
I'm trying another card now (this one 32GB), but I'm guessing the problem will occur with that one too.

Sounds a lot like what happened to my last card in my Note 2. I was able to get a replacement under warranty and haven't had a problem with it happening since.
Well, my guess was wrong. The 32GB card I switched to is actually working fine--no recurrences of the unexpected-removal error.
So I guess there's a problem with the 64GB card, even though it was fine until I switched it from the Note 3 to the Note 4 (and I handled the card carefully).
Good thing, though. It's easier to RMA the uSD card than to exchange the Note 4.

Yup, SanDisk Ultra 64GB. I had no problems with it in my Note 3, though.
I have a scan disk 64GB card that I took out of my Note 2 (rooted) and put in my Note 4. I started getting random unmounted errors.
Finally last night I pulled out the SD card and threw it in my computer. Sure enough it came up and said I had some corrupted files. I fixed the files. Dumped the SD card to my HD and then formatted the card in my phone. Then I put my music, pics, videos, and a couple of files for apps aback on the disk. So far no more SD card issues.

Flickr gives you a free terabyte of storage that you can auto-sync your phone's photos to. That way you don't have to buy a large SD card, and you don't have to worry as much about losing photos due to disk corruption.
Yeah, I tried formatting my SanDisk several times and kept getting the same issue any time the phone tried to access data or write to it. I put in an old 32M cheapo brand and have had no issue at all

I'm happy to report that the RMA replacement for my Sandisk Ultra 64GB uSD card arrived today (the replacement is a Pixtor rather than an Ultra), and so far it's working flawlessly.
I have been dealing with this error with my Sandisk 64gig also. Didn't have a problem with it on my Note3. I have reformatted to numerous formats. Anyone know of a specific one that works. Always have had trouble out of Sandisks on Samsung galaxy products. Some I don't , but I have had this problem on at least 5 different devices. I have always read that the thing to do is go with Samsung brand SDs. The new 64gig Samsung is apparently faster than any other micro SD. However, since I have paid for this one, I'd like to use it.
Hi guys,
Fairly new to the tab s got one just over a wek ago, since have been having issues with anys sd card i put in it.
Firstly i used a scan disk 32gb class 10
, it worked ok but would randomly dissapear, and seemed to have issues withplaying 2k videos, eg being choppy
So i thought i would upgraxe to a 64gb samsung evo class 10 card, been having nothging but issues since .
first i put loads on it then my tablet wouldnt read it at all. I then formatted it to ex fat via windows , same issue .
i then formatted in the tabelt it self. Now it works for about 5 mins then it will show as nothing in there
in storage settings says it mounted and show the correct memory but when trying to use it via various apps
as empty .
Both cards work fine jn windows, and have been brought from officisl websites hence arent fake
Anyone have any idea
Im trying to hold off routing so i can use banking apps , but if that lets me axtually use it !
You could try a factory reset on the tablet to see if that helps. If it doesn't work, then you'll need to exchange the tablet and do a factory reset anyways, so it won't hurt to try that first. I'm using the same samsung card you mention and it's working fine.

I just left it how it came, exFAT.
Android doesn't support exfat- it's a Microsoft format for the most part. Format it as fat32 and it will work. These large size microSDXC cards are coming formatted exfat (which was designed for flash devices in mind) but isn't really supported well.
Use fat32
I just got a 64GB flash drive and played with formats to see if I could use exfat or f2fs but nope. Fat32

I don't think that's entirely true. Some android devices don't support exFAT, but from my experience most do these days. I'm currently using an exFAT card on my Tab S.
ok so i tried exfat and fat32 and both did similar things.
I then tried the same cards inside my microusb to micro sd adapter and they worked fine!
So i took it back to John Lewis, spoke to their technical support who didnt know a fat lot, they kept telling me this tablet
doesnt support that type of media, i then showed them it did by using the microusb adapter, we then tried it in the display unit and worked fine, they werent understanding that sometimes it works in my device and
others it wont.
They kept advising me not to just swop it as the samsung tab s wouldnt do what i wanted it to do (i knew it would) they eventually agreed to give me a full refund, so i did and just swopped it for a nexus 9 as i was torn up between getting the
2 when i brought the tab s.
Short story - i swopped my tab s for nexus 9, happy with it so far compared to the tab s.
Also means i have some tab s cases going space if anyone fancies buying them off me for dirt cheap, got the official case, and cheapo one and some extremeguard protectors etc... drop me a message if your interested. (in the uk )
Thanks for all the help guys

Funny enough i had the same sd card in my phone (same brand/model/capacity) and that one works fine in the tab. My phone (galaxy note 2) reads both so i swapped them. Card was Team 64GB sdxc
The nexus is a no go for me, no sd card slot is a deal breacker. Plus the tab s screen is also unbeatable. I do a lot of reading and high res graphics so it's ideal for me.
Android, and this tablet support Exfat no problem.
And you'll want exfat if you want to put HD mkv files on your card larger then 4gb (fat32 limit).
When the tablet formats a new sdcard it does so in exfat.
Sorry to hear you went Nexus 9....
After reading this thread I'm starting to think maybe the S series has some micro SD hardware issues...
Mine is a totally different problem and so far i guess it hasn't affected me much i guess...
I have a SanDisk extreme 32 in mine that i used in my Note 3 and Phantom Vision Plus camera... it has worked flawlessly in those other devices... now, while installed in my Galaxy S 10.5 .... when i wake the screen i see a popup sometimes that says something about "SD card detected" ... as if i just inserted one ... but the damn thing has been in there for two weeks!?!?
So far none of the other problems listed here tho... plays all my 2K video files just fine... reads and writes with no problems... really fast as a matter of fact... i don't get it

For sure the Tab S is very picky about which SD cards it uses. When I upgrade from 64 to 128GB I'll definitely be going with a Samsung EVO/Pro or one of the new SanDisk branded cards just to be safe.
Not true

I don't think that's entirely true. Some android devices don't support exFAT, but from my experience most do these days. I'm currently using an exFAT card on my Tab S.

Quite right - not at all true. Android absolutely supports exFAT - that's the only format you can use over 32 GB - without using some sort of format utility...and even if that works, you can't store files over 4 GB in size (like my ripped Bluray videos). Android also supports NTFS, but SAMSUNG doesn't appear to.

So why does a 16GB Transcend card pre-formatted as FAT32 work, but a 64GB Samsung EVO ***EDIT _- IT NOW LOOKS AS IF THIS CARD IS A FAKE. The App SD Insight shows it as INVALID. The seller did not quible ; just refunded me! *** that comes pre-formatted as exFAT not work? I have had no end of little troubles, which at the bottom of it all seem to come down to this brand new SD card. The card works fine in my PC, and in a camera. I've no other Android with an SD card, having come from Nexus when the 9 was physically too big.
If I don't unmount the card before rebooting the tablet, it has decided that the card is damaged and will not do anything. When I asked it to format the card, all it did was wipe the file table - it only took a few seconds so it cannot have done anything else.
It comes to something when a Samsung tablet will not play ball with a Samsung micro SD card.

I don't really have an answer for you. I have been using a new 128 GB Sandisk card since day one (I assume it is exFAT, as I just put it in out of the box. I did no formatting or mounting) and I have had no problems whatsoever. Worked perfectly when I first booted and has worked like a champion ever since. I'm not seeing any of these problems.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. How frustrating this is... Since posting I have looked farther afield. There are all sorts of threads across various forums on the internet about SD cards suddenly not working in Samsung devices.
I had similar problems with My SanDisk Ultra 32 Gig card. I took it from my LG GPad 8.3 and deleted everything off it on my PC except my music folder, when I put the card in my Galaxy Tab S 10.5 it showed the card but I could not access my data, after a few reboots it worked for a while but was buggy and would stop working. What did work for me was copying off all my data and letting the tablet format the card, I then copied my data back to the card while it was in the tablet over USB. I have not had any issues since and it has been several weeks.
One of the main reasons for replacing LG G Pad 8.3 with Tab S were SD card unmount issues. Here it goes again. I tried two 64 GB SanDisk cards, formated FAT32 or exFAT, even zeroed out one card... The cards still stop working after heavy load from media scanner or reading large video file. The cards work fine in pc, other devices (S5, iBasso...) and even when connected to Tab S using external card reader and USB host cable.
My other cards (32 and 128 GB) exFat and FAT32 formatted SanDisk work fine in Tab S. So I'm trying to solve the issue by ordering 128 GB Samsung EVO card and hoping for the best...
EDIT: The 128 GB Samsung EVO card indeed fixed my issues - even watching large video file is fine.

Android, and this tablet support Exfat no problem.
And you'll want exfat if you want to put HD mkv files on your card larger then 4gb (fat32 limit).
When the tablet formats a new sdcard it does so in exfat.
Sorry to hear you went Nexus 9....

I don't think it does format the card. WHen I did that in my tablet, it took a very few seconds - long enough to do a quick format i.e. clear the data area that tells you where files are, but nowhere near long enough to actually format the card. Therefore all it does is leave the card as teh same format it was beofre the command.
