VERY Easy Root on LG Nitro P930 4.0.4 ICS - LG Nitro HD

Wanted to share that I used Cydia Impactor, http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/, to get root with a simple click...
Setup:
-Mac (Windows and Linux available)
-Cydia Impactor ver. 0.9.14
-LG-P930 (Build IMM76D & Soft Ver. V20c-JUN-25-2012)
Got root on the first try using "# drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin/su" option.
Now I've installed SuperSU and ClockWorkMod from Play Store. Have root and CWM was able to install recovery, but with Security Error.
Above gives you Root access, but with Locked Bootloader. This is as far as you can get on a Mac since LG only made the Update Software for Windows.
To get an UNLOCKED Bootloader (to flash custom ROMs):
1. Get a PC
2. Install LG drivers
3. Set your phone to allow installation from unknown sources, and enable USB debugging
4. Download Swetnes file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2495145&d=1388902355

i believe ICS has a locked bootloader, so thats why you get security error. return to GB, root and install cwm.

It is true that ICS has a locked boot loader, but you don't have to downgrade to GB to install CWM or TWRP, all it takes is pushing an unlocked boot loader. I developed a method to do it with a simple batch file. Refer to my thread here:

I tried to dd the boot.img from within the phone and couldn't get it to boot period, kept getting to the security error.
So I flashed to v18F using Hereics .exe file, rooted using TPSparkyRoot and then ran your file to get unlocked boot and CWM.
Flashed CM 10.2.1, upgraded to CM 11 (for some reason I could not flash CM 11 directly), flashed GAPPs, and flashed TWRP.
Any reason I should flash basebands or kernels? what is the benefit?

I would only flash baseband if you are having radio problems...as far as the kernel goes, they tend to be specific to each ROM. So I would just stick with what comes with CM11, but if you want to run stock ICS, I would recommend wind kernel.

you can not have cwm recovery without root. do u have a GSM or LTE GN?

Incorrect.
Root access gives you write access to the OS, which is separate from recovery. The standard root method for a Nexus device is to remove security from the bootloader, which then allows you to install non-signed images. You then install a custom recovery image. The custom recovery allows you to flash non-signed OS changes, which means you can flash the su binary and busybox (giving you root)...
You need to use fastboot to flash cwm, then you can install su and busybox...
ok gotcha, i was under the stupid assumption that i needed to gain root access to install a custom recovery. im going to give it a shot and see what happens
If you want to install recovery from the OS, then you would need an insecure/rooted OS. If you want to install recovery from the bootloader, then you would need an insecure/unlocked bootloader...

Same here
Same thing happened to me. I installed the Gnex toolkit and unlocked the bootloader. Then I tried to root the phone: It restarted and I turned on USB debugging as it said and nothing happened.
So you're saying that I can skip the rooting and "Rename Recovery Restore File" before I "Flash CWM Recovery". After that I can try rooting through Gnex Toolkit 5.2?

Cant Root Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys
Before 4.2 (and thus, 4.2.1) release, I had my 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Galaxy Nexus (TAKJU) rooted and it felt really nice, with programable underclocking to save battery and stuff. Now on 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, I cant root it using the same method I used back on 4.1.2 (I used GNexus Toolkit V9.1 and Now I'm trying with GNexus Toolkit V10.1)
What can I do to root it?
Thanks!
dont use toolkits, do it the right way. fastboot oem unlock(if your bootloader is locked), fastboot flash a custom recovery, flash either the su binaries or a custom rom in your custom recovery, reboot and profit.

[Q] Flash bootics.img on Xperia Play

Start by saying I'm very new about Android and smartphone in general.
Four days ago I got my first smartphone, a Xperia Play model R800i and some friends suggested me to install ICS. I searched on the internet and I have found the Xperia Play Development forum. There, I found a really interesting ROM called "New Express ICS".
I downloaded all the files and I started to follow the guide. I'm stuck at the second point (I believe this is ridiculous): I can't get into the Recovery Mode and I didn't get if I can flash the custom kernel (bootics.img) on flash tool.
I haven't rooted my phone, it's 100% virgin, yet.
Can someone explain me what to do? I'm searching answer here and on google for three days and I'm getting even more confused.
Sorry if my english is not perfect, it isn't my first language.
You need to unlock bootloader before fastboot a kernel (bootics.img)

Thanks for the link, it's very useful! Just a question: what do you mean with "read the root"? I have to root the phone?
I rooted my phone and I found the superuser app on this. Then, I unlocked the bootloader and the superuser app disappered, is it normal?
One more thing, how I flash the custom kernel and the ROM, now?
EDIT: Fail, Superuser is installed, yet, I didn't notice that
EDIT2: Why I can't get into the recovery mode?

I see you unlock your bootloader, good job! Place the ROM zip into your SD card first. Next, to get into recovery mode, just fastboot the kernel you want.
-Power off phone.
-Hold search button while connecting to PC via USB
-Open flashtool, click the thunderbolt icon, select fastboot
-Select kernel to flash (select your kernel bootics.img)
-Wait for 2 seconds and voila!
After that, power on your phone, when blue LED lights up with a vibration, spam volume button / back button (depends on kernel) then you'll be able to enter recovery

Again, read his guide on flashing kernel and roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054512
Which kernel you flash is depended on the rom you want to use it with, you need to flash a GB kernel if you want to use GB rom, ICS kernel for ICS, etc, although some kernel are compatible with both ICS and JB. Search the development section for kernels and roms. If you flash a rom and it fail to boot, it mean the kernel currently installed is not compatible with that rom.
About ClockworkMod Recovery:
If you flash a custom kernel, it will likely have ClockworkMod Recovery included. Or if you are using stock Sony firmware, use the "CWM installer version 5" from this link to install CWM. Sometimes you will get a status 7 error when you try flashing a rom, it might mean you have to use a different version of ClockworkMod to flash that rom successfully.
First of all, thank you both!
Can I flash bootics.img in the Flashtool? The fma965's tutorial speaks about a "*.zip" file besides a "*.img" file.
Also, he says to use fastboot package that I have already used to unlock the bootloader.
EDIT: I need Busybox? What is it? I didn't get it.

Flash boot.img in Flashtool/Fastboot as instructions above from jeff7424:good:Zip files are what you put on your sd card and flash with cwm recovery, these can be either roms, updates to roms, zip files to change appearance, performance tweaks, too many to mention.
So .img and .ftf files use in Flashtool/Fastboot and zip files use on SD card to flash with CWM recovery.
Not to complicate it too much sometimes the boot.img comes in a .zip file you need to extract this to use in flashtool/fastboot with winra/7z unzip programs
Edit; Busybox download it with Superuser app on your phone or download a app from store to update your busybox
What is it?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BusyBox
But I don't need busybox to flash kernel and ROM, right?
You can get busybox from Play Store, just search Busybox installer, install it, open the app and install busybox.

Root H815 on MM 6.0 V20d?

Hi guys ☺,
I bought today G4 eu model,it came with Marshmallow 6.0 V20d version.
I want to root it because of Greenify and Xposed,to increase the battery time, maybe later to flash some rom but...
There is a lot of topics on this subject,I started to read but I'm lost right now...as far as I saw,I can't root Marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader, only Lollipop, right?
Is it a big trouble to go back from MM to LP?
I'm not new in this flashing and rooting stuff,I had (still have) a Motorola Razr XT910,I flashed it 100 times for sure for 3.5 years but I didn't had to unlock the bootloader (it's impossible anyway) and there's a custom recovery Safestrap, modified Twrp which allows to flash and use 6 different roms, from JB to MM,without changing the kernel...
I will be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction,to give me some useful links etc.
And is there some list which procesess are safe to freeze with TB and which ones I can greenify?
Oh,and the bloatware too...
Sorry if I'm demanding but I want to bring out the best from this phone
Thank you in advance

Hi,
root without unlocking bootloader works only on lollipop, right. Not sure if u can downgrade, but when, u will use "LGUP" tool with the "H81510D.kdz" file. Maybe there exists a pre-rooted kdz to flash.
If u want to root android 6, u need a unlocked bootloader. Rooted Android 5.1.1 or unlock bootloader with rooted android 6.x.x
Ok,I successfully unlocked the bootloader but now I'm stuck with rooting and installing Twrp...
I've downloaded BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247 and TWRP-3.0.0.0-H815+ but there's a lot of metods,which one should I use?
Flash SuperSu+Twrp with stock recovery?
Install Twrp with adb command and then flash SuperSu with Twrp?
Install both with adb command?
I also saw somewhere that I must flash some other kernel that is already rooted...
I just need root and the Xposed for now, help me guys!
Im also Confused..Where can i find rooted kernel?
I already did this Method u said...But I got Boot Loop
Then I revover my phone with Lg Bridge
We need to find this.....I also Had Android MM with V20d

2. flash systemless root with twrp

but there aren't as much benefits of rooting as any other phone. viper4android doesn't work. spirit fm doesn't work. xposed doesn't work properly.(these 3 were the main reasons for which i rooted)

I didn't know i could flash something other than .zip files with twrp.
As for viper4android i tried normal way, flashed it with twrp, flashed extreme music mod with v4a fix. None seem to work. The drivers never get installed.
Xposed i haven't tried. I was in process of getting more information about it by reading various threads. But all seem to point to problems like bootloop, fc and Bluetooth issues. Can you guide me towards the best version of xposed for v20d with way to avoid problems or with as less problems as possible?

As for viper4android i tried normal way, flashed it with twrp, flashed extreme music mod with v4a fix. None seem to work. The drivers never get installed.
Xposed i haven't tried. I was in process of getting more information about it by reading various threads. But all seem to point to problems like bootloop, fc and Bluetooth issues. Can you guide me towards the best version of xposed for v20d with way to avoid problems or with as less problems as possible?

Here is the official Xposed thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
Download xposed-v80-sdk23-arm64.zip and flash it with Twrp.
Download XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk and install it.
And just in case if you have a bootloop, download xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm64.zip.
I haven't had any problems
Oh,be careful which Xposed module you install. Here is the thread of working/not working modules

Flash Imperium Kernel or SimpleGX Kernel. I used their kernels and ROMS on my older phones, they are legend. I suggest you to flash Imperium Rom. It includes kernel and everything and it is updated regularly by its dev.
This is kernel thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/kernel-imperium-kernel-g4-v1-0-t3282915
This is ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/rom-imperium-rom-g4-v1-0-t3312337

I think doesn't need to install recovery to root the phone.
Just this:
1) adb reboot bootloader
2) fastboot boot TWRP-2-8.7.0-h815.img
Wait a second and it will open, on the phone, the recovery.
Once open go to Advanced -> ADB sideload and take a swipe to start it where it says "Swipe to Start sideload".
Now on the PC write
3) adb sideload BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
( If it says after the instalation to install supersu etc just abort it)
And then, when installation is complete, press "Reboot System"
I rooted it this way, without install TWRP Recovery

Yeah - but the question has to be asked - why unlock the bootloader and root and not install TWRP? If you've got as far as unlocking the bootloader you might as well make life easier for yourself and install TWRP - that way anything you want to flash in the future can be done without being tethered to the PC, and also allows you to take proper full system image backups etc.

Of course , i agree with you. By the way, we can't root g4 on m6 without unlocked bootloader.
And finally, i decided to pass twrp on my phone, for every file i want to install from twrp, and not every time to boot from pc
You're right
p.s. the first thing i did after twrp installed, was to install g5 live wallpapers
