[Q] Was trying to change UI sounds and.... - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In a nutshell, I was trying to change my G3 lock and unlock sounds. I really like the iPhone lock and unlock so I tried changing it to that and but no avail.
I downloaded the files from Zedge. I converted them to .ogg files using Audacity on my PC, then transferred it back to my phone. I copied the name of the lock/unlock screen sound that my phone was using at the time. BTW Im rooted and used ES File Manager. The files were successfully copied and I rebooted the phone.
Once powered back on the phone would make no UI notification sounds at all. I tried using different types of screen lock settings and screen swipe effects to get a different noise but none of them worked.
I tried a factory reset which somehow restored my lock/unlock screen ONLY if i was using the swipe screen lock. PIN, Knock, pattern, face unlock etc... all produced no sounds when locking.
I noticed that the Iphone lock and unlock sounds were still in the folder after a factory reset (with the name I replaced it with). Is that normal? Shouldnt a factory reset start fresh?
I then tried downloading stock g3 Audio files and completely replaced all 4 folders in the phone and then tried a factory reset once more. Still no lock or unlock sounds.
From what I can tell, the volume up and down still make a sound, typing still ticks, calls still ring and I can preview ringtones and notifications in settings.
The files are clearly in the right spot, I don't get why the phone wont pick anything up.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers

Did you change permissions? to rw-r-r i don't convert the sound to .ogg just rename the tone.example suppose your lock was lock.ogg and the one your download was iphonelock.mp3 what i do is rename the lock.ogg to lock.ogg.bak and iphonelock.mp3 rename to lock.ogg and change permission to rw-r-r and reboot.

Thanks so much for the reply!
I have no idea how to change permissions. lol
How is this done exactly? Am I changing permissions on a single file or entire folder ( UI )?
Cheers

I use root browser.

Change user interface sounds

This is a simple procedure to change default notification sounds like email pop up, touch interface sound, boot , shutdown, lock, camera shutter, keyboard sounds etc for GALAXY GRAND DUOS
Phone needs to be rooted...
Download root explorer or root browser. Go to system>>media>>audio>>ui
You will find all ogg audio files there..Each one for different task...
For example KeypressSpacebar.ogg is the sound file for pressing spacebar in keyboard. You can replace the default one to any sound file or music file of your choice in the folder but make sure to rename the replaced file to same KeypressSpacebar.ogg . Same method applies to boot sound, shutdown etc. The audio file should only be in ogg format. . There are lots of online ogg converters to do this. Before doing all this pls take a backup of the ui folder just incase u mess it up..
i know this is very simple but i guess it would be useful esp to change that annoying touch sound on jb..
Just incase if anybody wants default click ics sound for touch..Here it is ...
Rename the file as TW_Touch.ogg and replace the default TW_Touch.ogg in the ui folder.. Reboot the phone..
Press Thanks if it helped

No PowerOff.ogg Sound plays when turning off the device?

I replaced both PowerOff.ogg and PowerOn.ogg files for the sktelecom bootanimation both animations work except the shutdownanimation is muted i have checked the permission for PowerOff.ogg it is rw-r-r Owners are root:root but it doesn't matter what i do i tried renaming power off to other common names and changing capital letters from the file but it just won't play whenever i shutdown the phone. can anyone help?
are the sounds inside the bootanimation zip? if so they should be. if not then they should work if there spelled just like the original ones were with the right permissions. also, if you have your phone volume on vibrate or silent when you power off or reboot your not going to hear the animation sounds on powerdown or up.

Yeah i did all of that when i placed both files in there i copied and pasted them at the same time phone is not in vibrate or silent. it looks like the system just isn't recognizing that the file is in there or not reading it at all but it is there...
maybe try re putting them there. redownload rename replace the existing ones set permissions and reboot into recovery and format cache and dalvik then reboot. you may need to do a second reboot to hear them. other than that im not sure as i havent tried replacing them on this phone yet, havent done that since my last phone (galaxy note 2)

i managed to replicate the same problem with bootanimation PowerOn.ogg so when i reboot the phone now even that one doesn't work. it seems to be an issue with the file system itself what i did was replace the PowerOn.ogg twice then cut and paste to external sd card then place a new one in media/ui after setting permissions, group owners, checking the right name is used and rebooting i get no sound for the bootanimation also there is no way to fix this that i know of it's odd that no one has reported this since i have had this problem in many phones like in the LG P880 Nitro HD and this LG G PRO it has something to do with android that disables its ability to use that file or read or play, whatever it might be.
The only way to get your sounds back is to reflash the whole rom with LG Flash tools.
EDIT: NEVERMIND not even flashing with LGflashtools will fix the issue only the PowerOn.ogg plays when booting up not when shutting down.
Same Issue
has anyone found a solution other then what has been mentioned? because I have the exact same issue PowerOn.ogg plays PowerOff.ogg wont play, Spelled correctly, the file works if I just play it from the system but wont work when I power off att e980
I have the same problem...many many device encountering this problem...everything is perfect on my side but still lack of shutting down sound...
just can"t figure it out...double checked poweroff.ogg...the file is perfectly readable but just don"t playing...
not a big deal...but would like to find why lolll
Bump
Gotta bump because i also have the same problem same phone, and the solutions mentioned also did not solve my issue no power off sound plays, permissions and spelling are correct i tried adding the ogg to the zip and re compressing but nothing

[Q] Few Issues After Changing File Permissions

So I made a mistake because I was impatient
I had found the thread on changing the ringer volume and saw it suggested to use 920 Text Editor to do so. After editing the file I kept trying to save it, but 920 kept telling me that it couldn't save the file because the directory was read-only. So in Root Explorer I kept changing permissions. First the file, then the directory, then finally the entire "system" directory. Then I learned that 920 has a setting that needs checked to allow it to make root changes. Oops.
The problem is that now when I go to change ringtones and press the plus sign to add new ones, I get "No applications can perform this action. Enable disabled built-in application?" and I click "OK" but nothing happens. I also don't show anything in my disabled apps that would be used for such an operation. The other problem I noticed is that my wifi no longer works. I can turn it on and it can connect, but it will only use my data connection.
Is there a way I can reset my phone's files' default permissions? If not, will a factory reset change them? I had previously read that factory resets don't change permissions.
I'm open to any suggestions!

try this

Can't change system sounds in ui folder

So I finally switched from the JellyTime 4.2.2 to the Mokee 4.4 rom and everything went fine.
But then I wanted to change the Lock and Unlock.ogg file, like I did before in the JellyTime rom.
I deleted the original files in the system/media/audio/ui folder and replaced them with my new files I already had converted from mp3 to ogg for the JellyTime rom.
Then I changed permissions to rw-r-r and restarted android.
But now there is no sound when I lock/unlock the phone. (Marker in soundsetting for lockscreen is set)
Is there something different betwen 4.2 and 4.4?

Nope. As long as file format is .ogg,it should be good. But do one thing,Try replacing it with some other lock and unlock.ogg and check whether it works or no. Sometimes low volume output makes sound inaudible too.
I don't know why, but if I copy the files with ES Explorer and then change the permissions with the Root Explorer it works
If I do both things (copy and change permissions) with one app, it doesn't work...

PowerOn.ogg doesn't play with correct permission??

So my phone is rooted with Magisk and TWRP, of course.
Long story short I wanted to get the Galaxy S8 fanmade boot animation for my phone. But, since I flashed an One-UI based ROM (Noble 2.3), my device uses .qmg extensions for startup and shutdown.
That's not the main problem though. I got the animation to play flawlessly when powering on and off, but only the shut down sound plays. The startup one doesn't.
Both of the .ogg files are placed properly in their location (/system/media/audio/ui) and they have -rwxr-xr-x permissions. No, setting the permissions to -rw--r--r doesn't change anything. The files are named "PowerOn.ogg" and "PowerOff.ogg". Only the shutdown file is played though, and I don't know why...
I'm pretty sure that I didn't mess with anything else besides the boot images.qmg and the .ogg files and only the poweron one is faulty. No, the audio isn't corrupted at all, it can be perfectly played.
I would just want to know how is this possible since I can't make up a reason... I uploaded a video on how my phone reboots while how i want it to reboot. I also uploaded the PowerOn.ogg file for troubleshooting
Any help is wanted, tysm for reading; if there's some confusing things I can explain again
Nevermind, I tried using a different sound and it worked flawlessly. So sorry for the time bother, seems like it was just the file... :,)
