So I finally switched from the JellyTime 4.2.2 to the Mokee 4.4 rom and everything went fine.
But then I wanted to change the Lock and Unlock.ogg file, like I did before in the JellyTime rom.
I deleted the original files in the system/media/audio/ui folder and replaced them with my new files I already had converted from mp3 to ogg for the JellyTime rom.
Then I changed permissions to rw-r-r and restarted android.
But now there is no sound when I lock/unlock the phone. (Marker in soundsetting for lockscreen is set)
Is there something different betwen 4.2 and 4.4?

Nope. As long as file format is .ogg,it should be good. But do one thing,Try replacing it with some other lock and unlock.ogg and check whether it works or no. Sometimes low volume output makes sound inaudible too.
I don't know why, but if I copy the files with ES Explorer and then change the permissions with the Root Explorer it works
If I do both things (copy and change permissions) with one app, it doesn't work...

I was just wondering if changing the boot-up screen is the same(or similar) for the SG3 as this guide that I dug up(its from a completely different phone but I get the general idea). and if not, where do the custom animations and sound files go?
To install, follow these steps:
remove bootanimation.zip and SPC_animation_final from /system/customize/resource
remove bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 from /system/media
adb push your downloaded bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 to /system/media

Would I have to delete any files? there is no "android_audio.mp3" i am assuming the boot anim is "bootsamsumg.qmg" or "bootsamsungloop.qmg" with the sound file being in system/media/audio/ui "poweroff.wav" and "poweronn.ogg"
can anyone confirm?
I just recently tried to just place the "bootanimation.zip" through a root explorer into the corresponding directory. I restarted but it doesn't seem to be using the bootanimation zip which leads me believe that it is more complicated than previously stated.
If you copy them to /data/local they survive between roms as long as you don't wipe data.

Did you remember to set/change permissions on the Bootanimation.zip file after moving it?

You have to be using a ROM/kernal that supports bootanimation.zip. Most stock ones are still using the .qmg files, and if you are making your own bootanimation.zip make sure when you zip it you are not compressing it. It needs to be "store only" or it won't work.

Good info here. Thanks
I am trying to change the bootanimation as well, and so far nothing I've tried works. I have a boot animation that worked with my sensation and is originally from the nexus, I placed it in both the data/local and the system/media folders and both are set to rw/r/r.
I noticed my system/media file also has 2 samsung .qmg(?) files in it, should these be deleted or renamed?
I'm currently using xquisitV70 with whatever kernel it includes, do I need to flash a custom kernel for this to work?
If so, any favorites for the s3?
Your Kernal has to support it.
I use ROM Toolbox to do it. It works perfectly and it's very easy to use.

Has zip to enable the use of bootanimation.zip file, i have only tested it on frosty v5...hope it works for you.
Thanks, the kernel was my issue apparently. I installed trinity kernel and now my boot animation is working perfectly.
Hi guys,
I found a way to change the boot up sound that's played during the boot animation when you start your phone.
You can change it to anything you want
I did this on Stock Samsung LP7 ICS 4.0.3
This works for Samsung ROMs. For other CUSTOM ROMs it may not work because they don't support the boot sound, or the sound must be placed in system/media and not in system/etc for example.
Here's how it's done:
1. Device must be rooted
2. Open a file explorer, I use Root Explorer.
Navigate to 'System' folder on root of internal SD card, then go to 'etc' folder and find a file called: PowerOn.ogg
i.e /System/etc/PowerOn.ogg
3.Rename the file to: 'PowerOn.ogg.Backup' (just so you have a back up of your original) (to restore simply delete the custom sound you made and then rename this back to PowerOn.ogg)
4.Find an appropriate .MP3 file you want as a start up sound and rename to PowerOn.ogg (notice the capitals at the start of Power and On)
(You may need to use a convertor to convert .MP3 to .ogg but I didn't, I simply renamed the .MP3 file
5.Once you have your new PowerOn.ogg file simply paste it into System/etc folder
6. Turn up volume, reboot phone and test it out!
Let me know how you got on
I used the PlayStation 2 start up sound for my phone and it sounds awesome!
Here's a link to Playstation 2 sound (already re-named and ready to go): https://www.dropbox.com/s/xxycdj1rjokufim/PowerOn.ogg
Have fun!
P.S If anyone else has any other cool sounds please share
Sweet! Will try it out soon
I did this on Stock Samsung LP7 ICS 4.0.3 but dont see why it wouldn't work on others

You're welcome mate
I found the boot animation for AOKP, and I tried simply putting it on my phone and that didn't work out. So, could someone either make it where I can simply flash it or has it already been fixed for our E4GT phones?

Try this flashable zip with your bootanimation file added. It should work with any TW based ROMs. What ROM are you running? Touch Wiz, AOSP, Jelly Bean, ICS?

Knowing that you are running PACman you should be able to take your bootanimation.zip file and place in /system/media using ES File Manager or similar app change permissions to rw-, r--, r-- and reboot. Hope that works for you.
Nope, that doesn't work with the file I attached to the OP. Just did as you instructed and it booted my phone black (sounds like it booted fine, but everything is black). So, I had to go into recovery and restore a backup. This is the problem I'm having...either the file in the OP isn't the right one for my phone, or something. I did set the permission and placed the bootanimation.zip in the /system/media folder and that is what happened.
I downloaded the AOKP rom and extracted the bootanimation.zip file...moved it to /system/media and set permissions as --rw --r --r and rebooted and same crapola...black screen...had to restore a backup.
Does it have to be somehow converted to a qmg file? If so, how come it isn't one in the AOKP rom then?
Here is the file...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/93orocmsfc68j8k/bootanimation.zip
FYI...Rom Toolbox installs it pre-installed bootanimations just fine and they work. I only have issues when I try to do one myself outside of Rom Toolbox. :/

Interesting... Question, when you copy the files manually to the /system/media folder is it replacing a different bootanimation.zip file? If not, then it must be located in the "/data/local" location? You could try copying there? As far as being converted to qmg format, pretty sure that is only the case for Touch Wiz ROMs. I have had the "Blackout", boots fine situation myself. If I get a chance tonight I will load PACman and see if I can help that way. Sorry can't be more help.

Yeah, it was replacing one. I just double checked /data/local and there isn't anything regarding bootanimation there.
I just opened the PACman zip that I have installed on my phone and found the bootanimation.zip and it is in /system/media and it is a series of jpg files (two folders full). The only difference between the CM animation and the AOKP one is that the AOKP one are PNGs instead of JPGs.
If you are still interested in this weird problem...here is what I have tried...
I converted the PNG files to JPGs...rezipped, put on phone, confirmed correct permissions after placing it in /system/media/
The only progress is that it didn't keep my phone black after boot...only a black/blank boot animation.
Files are 480x800
Here you go don't forget to set permissions to rwx r-x r-x

I replaced both PowerOff.ogg and PowerOn.ogg files for the sktelecom bootanimation both animations work except the shutdownanimation is muted i have checked the permission for PowerOff.ogg it is rw-r-r Owners are root:root but it doesn't matter what i do i tried renaming power off to other common names and changing capital letters from the file but it just won't play whenever i shutdown the phone. can anyone help?
are the sounds inside the bootanimation zip? if so they should be. if not then they should work if there spelled just like the original ones were with the right permissions. also, if you have your phone volume on vibrate or silent when you power off or reboot your not going to hear the animation sounds on powerdown or up.

Yeah i did all of that when i placed both files in there i copied and pasted them at the same time phone is not in vibrate or silent. it looks like the system just isn't recognizing that the file is in there or not reading it at all but it is there...
maybe try re putting them there. redownload rename replace the existing ones set permissions and reboot into recovery and format cache and dalvik then reboot. you may need to do a second reboot to hear them. other than that im not sure as i havent tried replacing them on this phone yet, havent done that since my last phone (galaxy note 2)

i managed to replicate the same problem with bootanimation PowerOn.ogg so when i reboot the phone now even that one doesn't work. it seems to be an issue with the file system itself what i did was replace the PowerOn.ogg twice then cut and paste to external sd card then place a new one in media/ui after setting permissions, group owners, checking the right name is used and rebooting i get no sound for the bootanimation also there is no way to fix this that i know of it's odd that no one has reported this since i have had this problem in many phones like in the LG P880 Nitro HD and this LG G PRO it has something to do with android that disables its ability to use that file or read or play, whatever it might be.
The only way to get your sounds back is to reflash the whole rom with LG Flash tools.
EDIT: NEVERMIND not even flashing with LGflashtools will fix the issue only the PowerOn.ogg plays when booting up not when shutting down.
Same Issue
has anyone found a solution other then what has been mentioned? because I have the exact same issue PowerOn.ogg plays PowerOff.ogg wont play, Spelled correctly, the file works if I just play it from the system but wont work when I power off att e980
I have the same problem...many many device encountering this problem...everything is perfect on my side but still lack of shutting down sound...
just can"t figure it out...double checked poweroff.ogg...the file is perfectly readable but just don"t playing...
not a big deal...but would like to find why lolll
Bump
Gotta bump because i also have the same problem same phone, and the solutions mentioned also did not solve my issue no power off sound plays, permissions and spelling are correct i tried adding the ogg to the zip and re compressing but nothing
Hi,
I have T-Mobile g4 that I unlocked and currently using with at&t. I replaced the bootanimation zip with a nexus version in systems/media folder which worked perfectly fine. How can I get rid of the audio though? Before, when I replaced the bootanimation zip alone, the audio stopped somehow. But I just flashed the 10N stock rom and changed the bootanimation, but im getting the tmobile audio. I looked for boot_audio.mp3 file in esfile manager and couldn't find or locate it anywhere to delete
Look for PowerOn.ogg and PowerOff.ogg in /system/media/audio/ui
