What takes most of my memory? - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just bought this wonderful device to find out that I have less than 4GB of available storage, after I upgraded to the last software version it got even less, so is that normal? What to do to solve this issue ? I really want to try some hardcore games with huge data

This device has a normal sized backup of 1.90+GB when compressed disregarding any apps you may install after it decompresses to about 3.5-4GB. Good thing it supports up to 128GB via SD storage

Memory for digital cameras is usually SD, while phones use MicroSD.
I wouldn't waste money on it unless I knew for sure. G2/DZ support up to 32gb. Maybe, maybe not. Please do tell if it works

Bumping this back up - has anyone tried 64gb MicroSD yet?
If you don't mind me asking, dafuq r u gonna do with 64 gb of storage?
I have 8gb and I don't even use it all lol.
Mostly music tbh, but also pictures, videos, apps, a couple of full backups. You tend to fill up the space when you have it. I have had to delete files to keep under the 32gb I have at present, so I would use 64gb if available.
I might buy one anyway to use in my next phone if not this one...

Basically yes. Unless you use a very lightweight system. Won't see the stograge change by much though. Either way, this is miles better than the 9gbs the xl people have access to

Just wondering if it is the same on the SIII for example?

Not 7, you have around 2GB for apps too...in the future we will probably be able to cut the system space...
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
And BTW, if you buy a HDD for you PC with 80GB, you wouldnt have all 80GB,the missing GB are lost by transfer bits into bytes...so our system is using maybe 3GB...
And its the same by gs3 too...

Formating an 32gb sd card will give you ~29gb real storage. And now look at settings->storage->total space...this is a second partition on your sd card. Last one: One some OS's it's calculated with 1mb=1000kb and some OS's or progs using 1mb=1024kb...Win Explorer for example says total 25,2gb space and total commander ~26,5gb.
So...there's nothing wrong with your device.
Even if it was stated as 32gb it will only have 29.5 or 30gb. Just like my 32gb sd card only have 29.4gb

u have 2GB to use it as microsd cart, seems that's virtual partition, so if you see it logicaly i have 1TB disk and it shows me like i have 931GB where the 70GB are at? that's the technique of the disk manufacturers

How expensive was your SD card? Sometimes they try to sell you a cheap one that has terrible read/write speeds. I think a good class is class 5 or higher anything lower you will notice lag because the transfer is slower. I have a 16gb with class 4 or 5 I can't remember tho

Why a micro SD card but useless

Sorry I just really don't quite get this and it's made me quite angry so correct me if I'm wrong here. Do we blame Android or Samsung for this. Here is my question why the heck does my Galaxy Note II has the ability to have a micro SD card slot and yes I have a 32GB SanDisk card in there when yet again I cannot seem to transfer programs onto it to free up some space on my phone.

I have my 20gb collection of music on sd card.... but there is script for swap our 2 storages or you can bind folders
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
You can use link2sd directory bind or folder mount to move things to your sd card if your rooted
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If I'm not wrong, ever since the S3 came out, APP2SD stopped working on subsequent phones models. I can't say whether it's Samsung or Google who implemented this since everyone in my house uses a Samsung device lol. But with the ever increasing storage size of newer phones, I don't really miss APP2SD.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
I tried Apps2SD and no luck what so ever, complete blumen fail, get error telling me that my device does not support it. To say the least I am not happy about this at all. I but a Samsung Galaxy Note II (N7105 Model) than a further $55 for a 32GB SanDisk MicroSD Card and now I cant even transfer some of my programs to the SD card. I would if been better off buying a dummy phone and pretended to use it as a normal phone.
Well you can use the micro SD to keep your music and videos and reserve the phone memory for the apps. Unless you have a lot of big apps that eats up 1gb each like GTA, you won't run into any problems. Similarly you can try link2sd but like app2sd you will run into problems if your SD card runs into some problems or you take it out.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
Try to root your phone though your phone's warranty will be void and use the app called directory bind.. It will help u solved phone memory problem.

The ability to move apps to so card had been removed by Google from jelly bean. . But Samsung is the only one who have reintroduced it from 4.2.2... and is also available on the leaked 4.3 roms and in note 3.. So if you want it. .. Flash the leaked 4.3 rom on your note 2... and yes it is better in all respects than the earlier rom
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Don't flash the 4.3 leaked rom !!!!! Its for the N7100 only not the n7105.

I live in Australia here and how frigging slow we are in this country when it comes to technology compared to the rest of the world, I am still on Jellybean 4.1.2 yet again waiting for 4.2.2.

Ok what's the actual difference between the N7100 and N7105 model can someone please tell me.
Sent from my GT-N7105T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I use the SD card for pictures, movies and music. I leave internal memory alone as much as possible. So basically, for apps. But now the normal amount of space in a device is 32gb which is nice. With 32gb, I probably won't care about too many apps being installed unless it slows down the device. That's actually one of the reasons why I DON'T install too much crap on my phone... haha.
But still, it would be nice to be able to move apps to SD card, but in all honesty, I have yet to run into the low memory issue. I have very few games and the games I do have installed are "light" version of games, rather than heavy 3d games with lots of textures. I like puzzles and simple games.

[Q] Maximum MicroSD capacity?

I'm buying a new microSD card soon, and I wonder what's the biggest one I can safely use with my Xperia T2.... 64GB? 128GB?
Also, a bit related, how good are Samsung branded SD cards?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

32 gb is the maximum capacity for t2 ultra.
I dont really know about Samsung sd cards, sandisk is recommended, though.

You can also use 64GB card. I had one and it worked until it got broken (was a chinese one). But if you try google you will find many t2 users happy with 64GB. I am currently using a 32GB SanDisk ultra and it is pretty fast.

Ok, I see... So I'm guessing getting a 128GB one would be pushing it too far?
64GB is just fine, if it works withouth hiccups.
Just wondering... what happened to your card? Did your data get corrupted or was a physical flaw?

Try out the Lexar 64gb micro SD, or the Samsung UHS 64gb micro sd, ive had both , no complaints, dont have them now cuz i lost the phones which harboured them.
