So I'm wondering if I should root/s-off and change from Boomsound to Harman Kardon since I heard HK supposedly have higher sound quality.
I don't use Boomsound when using headphones since I use a pair of ATH-M50 I just think it make the sound worse.
However, I would like to know if HK have better sound driver and quality, even with Clari-Fi or LiveStage turned off?

Personally I think Boomsound sounds better. Boomsound (to me) makes the instrumentals sound better where as H/K makes the vocals sound better. How I formed this opinion is via rap, specifically Eminem. The base and other instrumentals sounded far better on BS but with H/K vocals were more clear. Either way both are quite good but expect a moment of "what the f?" if you switch to H/K, the difference for me made me think H/K sucked but after a bit of using it I adapted and it didn't sound as bad...that is me though, maybe not the same for you.
Also root/S-OFF is definitely worth it, go for it!

I found that somewhat true and false at the same time.. Depends on musical taste and the way you like your music via a EQ.. Personally I prefer H/K with viper audio. Of course that's from a metal head. I listen to a lot of melodic death metal which has different progressions and incorporates almost every sound you could possibly make. Its all a personal preference, depends on musical taste, the way you prefer EQ's and all that good jazz.

I prefer HK... Boomsound seems to somewhat "muffle" the sound. All my music is 320kbps and they seem to lose clarity on Boomsound. HK > Nothing > Boomsound. Make sure to disable LiveStage if you use HK... It just sucks.
I would take hk anyday. Still it's down to personal preference. So I can't give much comment about it. Boom sound u would get tons of bass. Hk you would get dramatically drop in bass but have better clarity. Which I think using speaker with hk isn't something you would notice much. But with earphone it does sound better for me.

I'm actually not a fan of either, though Boomsound does make a difference with the internal speakers. (which is probably why you can't disable it) However, my biggest gripe with the H/K mod is that it is really a hack, not a mod. It will very likely quit working if you upgrade to Android L until someone comes up with a new procedure and set of files after the update, and unless you are very careful, the odds of bricking your device are high. Also, since it will definitely kill OTA updates, you will have to undo it to get the update. Just not worth it IMO.
However, I tend to not use the EQ very much unless the source material really needs it. I typically run with a flat EQ curve, or, if anything, maybe a slight treble boost.
The sad part is that CyanogenMod's DSP manager does most of what the H/K mod does, only better and without hacks. It's too bad you have to give up Sense to run it...

The H/K is just replacing the main ADSP with a modified version. If you're really running stock, have a recovery, then get H/K you're better off making a nandroid, flashing a stock based ROM and running it.. If you REALLY want an update you shouldn't have modded your phone and flashed a recovery to begin with. Whenever you flash a ROM again it replaces it with boom sound. With the update to L... How do you think we got H/K in the first place? Scolser I think the name is, and baadnewz are great devs and can more than likely come up with H/K again for L.
With you really want DSP on something besides cyanogenmod, just run V4A. It has a LOT more options.

I myself like when the sound is neutral. I never use Boomsound when listening with headphones.
My question was if the HK version gives better sound quality, even if I don't use clear-fi and live stage.(I also never use EQ)

I wasn't trying to insult anyone, and yes, I know how to install it. I also know how to revert back to the point where I can get OTA updates. I wouldn't be here if I had a problem with flashing software on my phone.
My point was that I personally didn't feel like the juice was worth the squeeze. It changes the audio, and maybe for some source material it works out, but overall I just didn't get the impression it was that great.

It varies per song/artists/how it was produced. Like when I kick in some Amon Amarth, tool, or heaven shall burn and turn on live stage it gives a good sound. But then I turn it on with my pink floyd, or deftones, it produces an okay sound (still always have clear-fi on). For each different song/artist/album I change back and forth. I usually always use Clear-fi, as it really does return a clear and more pure sound in my opinion.
I also noted that the HK "Clari-fi" option's effectiveness seemed to vary widely based on what you were playing. With some of my ambient electronica, and similar instrumental tracks. it really helped give it a bit more of a clean sound. With other music, like chillout lounge stuff, it varied widely, with some tracks sounding significantly worse, some much better, and some just "different". Jazz didn't really improve much at all, while rock sounded marginally better with boomsound and a touch weaker on HK.
Also, and this was a bit weird, I had some tracks that sounded like they had static in them (crackling), which went away if I turned live-stage on (or turned off the HK mod). However, the very next track wouldn't have any of that. It's probably a fault in the MP3 encoding that the DSP was accentuating, but it was kind of odd.
At any rate, I opted to go back to stock as a result. Boomsound generally never made anything sound worse, so it was safe to leave it on and not muck with it no matter what was in the playlist.
Boomsound . Boom.

I'd take it a step further. Do you think all the folks running custom roms on here have stopped updating their devices? There are ways to get the firmware updates, so that shouldn't be a factor.

Repeat: My point was that, IMO, the mod wasn't worth the effort or the mess, and that if you weren't an experienced user, I'd suggest staying away from it. Largely because there isn't an "easy" way to switch if you don't like it (Yes, I know it's possible, because I've done it), and the risks are somewhat high if you don't know what you are doing. (brick potential)
It's sort of like running through a mine field to get a box of stale twinkies. However, that's just my opinion, as I didn't care for the effect at all.

Just a question. When was the last time you ran it? Were you at the point where you had to flash it through fastboot/RUU mode? Or the one where you can just flash through recovery? This isn't being mean, I was just wondering. Because the sound from the fastboot/RUU mode to the recovery one, sound changed tremendously!

Both.
However, just to be fair, I tried it again last night using the latest recovery zip. Within minutes, I noticed the artifacts that made me dislike it the first time. Some of my favorite tracks have a lot of crackling in them when I turn on the Clari-fi option. Turning off the enhancement cleared it up always, and turning on Livestage cleared it up for some. I kind of doubt a bad flash, as it behaved the exact same way.
Unfortunately, the mix I typically play the most on the daily commute turned out to be one of the worst in terms of the strange static. It was completely unlistenable. Now, it could just be that there is something in the way those files were encoded that makes them react poorly to further DSP processing, or something else, but it was clearly audible. However, I will admit that for some tracks, it did improve the sound a fair deal.

I see where you're coming from.
I think it really boils down to what exactly you like in terms of music. I think it will be drastically different for everyone. I use both V4A and H/K at the same time. With the mix, when I don't like how songs sound, I go into V4A and change the EQ, bass, and clarity. To each man, his own personal preference.

Just wanted to ask
I have installed ViperM8 rom on my device and I tried to HK mod my deivce ( failed due to S-OFF )
Anyway, Does ViperoneM8 have HK pre-installed ?
I saw an option but it just shows the setting

What ?
I am now on ViperRom right now, I flashed the S-On H/K mod but it didn't work then I found that the phone needs to be S-OFF to flash the ADSP file
So my question is is there any other way ?
Thanks

Hi Guys,
Complete nood here, sorry!
I've just rooted my Desire (did it first time, no issues whatsoever!) I'm sticking with my current stock rom for now (still undecided on which 2.2 rom to go for and don't have time tonight!)
However, one thing i really want to do with root access is remove the EU volume restriction on my phone. I've done a fair bit of hunting but can't find a dam thing on it.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance.
Bump +1 this is the quietest phone I ever had.
I debranded my Orange Desire using a Europe ROM - didn't make a difference. I found a "WWE ROM" and it's much louder now.
I take it this volume limit has now been forced upon us?
I have found volume to be better since upgrading to froYo - not sure if its me but its definitely louder now...
I'm using a stock 2.2 rom (unbranded, rooted) and the volume is definitely lower than it was in 2.1.
I would be very interested in any solution to this...

Yeah, I thought is was louder also after froyo update
noticeably quieter, i have to go nearly full volume now with my headphones. previously half way used to be adequate.

I've always had to go to near full volume, especially with podcasts
So I was wondering if anyone could lie out a few points of the differences or advantages between these 2 versions?
I've noticed a lot of GB ROM's are slower and a bit more "heavy" but that may just be due to them just coming out and still having a lot of work to be done with them to optimize them for speed and battery life.
As of now I'm perfectly happy with Froyo and see no reason to switch, but still would like to know what advantages Gingerbread brings to the table.
You need to try cm7.
HTC DINC
CyanogenMod 7
Invisiblekk Latest
11.19 Radio
ADW Launcher EX
With Gingerbread your screen has that awesome on/off animation.
I know gingerbread is supposed to have built-in VOIP calling with Google Voice. Does that work with CM7? If that did, I could totally reduce my calling plan!

hah agreed, I guess there isn't a whole lot significant about the gingerbread release, I may be sticking with Froyo for a while if that's the case.
Also I've actually tried out CM7 before (several weeks ago) when it was very first released.
The screen on/off was pretty cool for the first day or so, but it started to bug me after a while and I kinda wished there was a way to disable it.
The VOIP calling with google voice has been available on the incredible for a while now, or at least I thought it had been. I never used it because of what a pain it is to switch back off of google voice, not to mention you are required to have a 3G connection or else you're out of luck and your phone is useless.
There are a lot of optimizations made to the whole android framework form what I gathered reading the android dev blog. They were targetting UI responsiveness which is definitely an issue in android as compared to iOS. I know that all of that is definitely better from my brief play with CM7 but I think it still has a long way to go to be as good as I want it to be. I also kind of like the orange glow that appears when you scroll lists, its a subtle but nice improvement.

I'm not sure how GB roms could feel heavier/slower, especially with CM7. I'd agree with you if you were talking about sense because its a bit bloated.
I'd suggest try CM7 again, RC2 with Chad's latest 37.2 kernel. Give it time to sync up with Google then play around with it. I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Unless you are a super sense fan
P.S. you can turn off the screen animation in CM settings. In the display menu.

Alright I guess I'll be giving CM7 another go, cheers for the feedback.
Only reason why I haven't tried CM7 is no 720p recording, not complaining just stating. Maybe im being a stickler but I like to have all options on the roms I run.
I honestly have noticed any differences in speed or responsiveness. I have tried a few gingerbread roms not sure if its because they are in early stages or not, but so far it doesn't live up to the hype in my book.
If I am posting this, I'm probably pooping.
Is it just me or does CM7 have crazy good sound quality. And the bass is extremely good as well, used dsp manager to boost base and it sounds as close as I have heard to bose (but still not as good as the great bose)
There are some small things that have bothered me with Gingerbread... for example I miss the sense Camera.apk, and of course 720p. But I went back to things such as Sense and MIUI, and I couldn't last 24 hours on them. I was originally between Evervolv and OMGB... then I stuck with OMFGB. CM7 RC2.5 is what I'm running now, and may I say it's pretty amazing. But I am gonna have to try out the new OMGB 1.1.0 build tomorrow though
I guess it's just the overall feel of Gingerbread. Oh, and optimization and web browsing is quite a bit faster I have noticed.'

Are you saying the built in phone speaker sounds like BOSE? That I would believe
Anyway is the sound quality via BT and headphone jack actually better? This would be something that might interest me.
I found CM7 to work very well, even better than SkyRaider IMHO, however I LOVE what JuiceDefender does for my battery - and it's not compatible with Gingerbread. As soon as that is released, I will have a semi-tough descision to make.
Scott
Just switched to CM7 from warm Z and loving it (Pandora sounded like garbage). Very responsive to say the least, GB seems to be quite a treat.
BT tends to leave out a lot of bass, but you can help correct it by using DSP manager.
The kernel plays a bit part in this area as well, chad's incredikernel has some audio boosts (especially for the earpiece) that I like. I know the stock earpiece volume was formerly way too low in crowds or even moderately loud situations.
Hey guys,
just rooted my z1c with the completely awesome and easy new rooting method and installed V4A. Love it but it seems to be not working with the newest jetaudio player. Tried searching the xda forums but kinda got overwhelmed by the results and wasn't skilled enough to narrow down the search enough to get any useful results. I guess i have some settings enabled in jetaudio i shouldn't have. Tried all i could find but there seems to be no change...
Do you guys have any ideas why that could be?
Would love to hear from you,

im not 100% mate but i think that V4A is only compatible with the standard walkman player and not others.

No problem mate glad I could help, I was just going on my last phone Xperia M - the V4A port of that only works with the Walkman player, well as I understand that's what was described in the thread, I didn't actually flash it.
I've used the ac!d mod for a few years since i had my Ray... it was awesome on that, made a huge difference in quality, I had it flashed on my M and it was worth it, not quite as good as on the Ray but think the M lacks quite a bit on sound quality and volume through the headphone port
To answer your question about a ROM I only got my z1c yesterday and I've flashed KitSlim and DoomKernel as like to stick with the stock/modified stock look on any of my ROMs with all the tweaks and performance gains. So far its really good I like it, but then I'm used to using a mid-range good value phone that's modded to f**k to make it as good as (or as close to as I can get) a flagship... (software wise anyway, my Ray was great for ports and mods)
With DoomKernel you get FauxSound support which is amazing (apart from the random FC's that I need to ask about) for pre-amping your headphones as much as you like without ANY distortion :fingers-crossed:
The only thing now is that I actually have a flagship device lol - so nothing needs porting and I've pretty much got all the performance I need because the phones an absolute powerhouse :victory:
Depends on how much customisation you want really - your not gonna beat modified stock for performance and battery life BUT if you want all the customisations and bells and whistles then try the CM based ROMS:good:
yeah, its crazy how the output power for headphones varies from phone to phone. The Z1C is one of the better ones in my oppionion. I'm not a big fan of preamping from the phone cause to my ears it always messes up the sound ... so i'm curious about doomlords kernel...
Really good to hear your view on the whole rom thing. I guess it's 3 things that count for me ... sound quality, battery life and privacy/security ... I'm still not clear how secure it is to use a rooted phone( needed for V4A) with supersu but ... what the heck
So I guess I'll stay on the stock rom for now and maybe l'll look into doomlords kernel as well ... I kinda really want to have dt2w but it looks like its not happening for now
thanks for your extensive response :good:

Yeah i totally understand what you mean about the pre-amping.. on the M if i pre-amped above 4/5Db (in n7player) its caused horrible distortion and did mess up the sound but on the z1c its genuinely fantastic.
I wouldn't worry about security of your phone, especially if you've got root and/or a custom ROM as any of the fixes needed to protect "security risks" are usually already implemented, if not included as mods/tweaks in the ROM then just because you're pretty much fully up to date on software.
If your looking at sound quality and battery life mate i seriously recommend KitSlim and the DoomKernel, I've just had 2days 14hours 53mins battery life (put it on charge at 5% remaining) i used it for music (n7player) for about 3-4 hours each day, regular phone usage, installing a few apps and the odd photo/video to test out the new camera (must say I'm impressed, people moaning about poor quality low light photos - get a REAL camera then... its a mobile phone!!) AND I've had the brightness on 100% the whole time
So yeah pretty pleased with my first choice of ROM on this phone, plus the maker of it is uploading a new one i think today or this week :victory:

Sorry it took me so long to reply, have been busy .
I installed Kitslim and love it!!! battery performance is stellar and it works flawlessly. Really a pitty I'm not allowed to post a thread in developers section yet, cause I wanted to let the devs/guys who ported it know how much I love their rom. Can't wait for evo 6. anyway... I definitly want to try out doomlords kernel, but am a bit hesitant about unlocking the bootloader. Did a TA Backup but still a bit frightened about bricking my phone/needing the keys for warrenty and something going wrong when restoring them
Guess I'll just wait if he will manage to incorporate dt2w ... having that would be worth the risk. Btw. do you know why omarainea isn't porting the newer kernel version? I wonder how much work it is porting a kernel and if i could learn it ... might be a bit sophomoric though

Hey... sorry i didnt notice you had responded hence me not replying lol :silly:
You don't need to be allowed to post in the developers section mate you can just post in their thread saying thanks and that you like the ROM and/or request any specific mods or tweaks you might like.
DoomKernel did have dt2w but he took it out because apparently it causes unnecessary battery drain.
With regards to the unlocking of your bootloader its ABSOLUTELY fine mate Sony support it and you have to use their website to get you bootloader unlocking code anyway, plus restoring the TA is a piece of p!ss seriously.
The performance gains and general pro's to be had from a custom kernel faaaaar outweigh the risks posed when unlocking your bootloader and flashing a new kernel trust me :highfive:
v4a will not work when jet audios hra playback is enabled. it used to work but some roms with dolby and such have some hdcp written into them so it will disable v4a in certain cases.
my rom is the same btw i cant find a fix either. rmember to resart jet audio when you click the hra on or off.
and i just noticed how old this post was. lol
The question is all in the thread title: is there a non-sense rom for the one m8 that has decent audio quality? It would be a pity to not being able to exploit the great sounding speakers of this phone (eithr with the boomsound or HK option), but I don't use sense as a home, so sense based roms are a bit clumsy if you don't use their features.
I'm currently running LeeDroid which is a great rom, but somehow I feel like going back to the simple AOSP roms!
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Think your only option would be a GPE ROM. Which, I know, isn't exactly AOSP, but it's the closest thing to perfect audio, AOSP feel.
I had that suspicion, but I wanted some experienced advice, so thanks a lot. I'll give that a try.
Hello guys, I'm not HTC 10 user at the moment, but I interested to buy this phone
I want to ask about the audio quality of this phone which being said is Hi-Res
Since alot of reviews said that this phone audio quality is superb and I assume it on Stock ROM, will it still the same if we install another Custom ROM either based on AOSP,LOS,etc ?
I used Xiaomi Mi5, and the audio quality is..well I could say good, but once I flash Custom ROM, it getting worse, so much bass gained from Custom ROM
I just disappointed since I think there is no fix for this, all Custom ROM gives same results
So is HTC 10 Custom ROM give the same audio quality as Stock ?
Thanks in advance

Well on Stk or custom i still use arise sound mod, so audio quality might not be as good as stk but pretty damm close.
Close enough that i don't run sense based ROM s on this device a anymore, except every now and again. CAF AOSP A has come along way since this phones release
