Root idea - Moto 360

I know it can be done with a jig, but what about installing a root app like weak sauce or towelroot to root our devices?

I would say that rooting the device is a minor problem. Unlocking the bootloader and thus opening the door to custom ROMs is the magic sauce.

Bootloader has been unlocked some days ago. Simple as fastboot oem unlock.

I was well aware of that. Just wanting to point out that root doesn't give that much benefit for now compared to unlocking the bootloader.

On N5 and N7 there is an app "Bootloader unlocker" which can lock and unlock the Bootloader on the fly. With something like this perhaps we only need the USB if something goes wrong.

[Q] Bootloader Re-locked. Warranty?

Hello there,
since 4.0.4 wasn't coming to my phone, I've flashed the stock image from google on my GNexus. I was wondering if, having unlocked and re-locked the bootloader, my warranty is void, or if it is back on.
Thanks in advance
Doesn't rooting already void ur warranty?
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
As long as you put stock from and relock bootloader, no one can tell you've done anything to your phone or voided your warranty.
Just like an iPhone jailbreaking voids your warranty until you restore it back to official firmware.
Galaxy Nexus GSM
You can always return to stock and lock the bootloader. No one will be able to tell you've done anything to the phone at that point.
I send my SGN in for repair after reflashing the stock image and relocking the bootloader. And there were no complaints that my warranty is void. So I asume there is no flash counter like on the SGS2.
Alright! Great to hear
Thanks a lot for all the replies =)
Oh, that's great to hear!
I have a similar question...If you were to be lazy and not relock the bootloader, would the people at a local VZW really know? I mean, in the past, I have seen people take rooted and Rom'd HTC phones to sprint and easily gotten replacements.

They probably wouldn't know... but how the hell lazy are you? Connect the phone to a PC and type "fastboot oem lock" into the command window. There's absolutely no reason not to lock the bootloader before sending it back in.

if they have 1/2 a brain, yes they can tell the bootloader is unlocked... since there's a picture of a unlocked lock.
As I wrote before I send my phone in for repair and relocked it before. Today I got my phone back and when I turned it on it was unlocked. I think they don't care about unlocked bootloaders as long as the issue is not caused by onlocking the bootloader.
They should be able to tell whether ur bootloader is locked. It changes one of the codes. For my w8 it changes Rxxxxxx (locked) to rxxxxxx( unlocked) so as long as they check ur warranty is as good as dead

unlocking and relocking the bootloader is extremely easy guys....
I had an issue with my stock recovery ....so I had to unlock by bootloader ..then flash the stock recovery image ...and then relock my bootloader.... all this took under 10 mins...
and yes once you relock..its relocked...

Why bother even relocking it, if you need to unlock it again you'll have to wipe your internal storage.

I'd love it if it were possible, but sadly I'm afraid not. Really hope I'm wrong here.

Long story short: It is and stays un-unlockable forever, no matter if you remove SIM or netlock.

htc one m8 warranty

hi,
i have htc one m8(european version) for almost two weeks and i am very satisfied of him.
i want to root the phone and i know all the procedure to do this.
my question is, if i open the bootloader through the "htcdev" site, there is any chance that my carrier will know that i have open the bootloader and after that will cancel my warranty?
because, i read guides on the XDA how to unroot the su and how to flash the stock recovery but i am afraid that it is not enough to keep my warranty be maintained.
thanks

your bootloader will show that you unlocked your phone. However as long as there is no issue with cpu etc meaning hardware that could have been damaged by overclocking etc there should be no issue at all.
you don´t loose your warranty in any case, only certain repair things might not be accepted.

thankes for the answer.
so as long as there is no problem with hardware and the phone itself, the warranty mantain.
but they can actually see that the bootloader is open in the phone or they dont care of it?
there is a guide how to lock the bootloader?

If you just do the fastboot OEM lock command then it'll say relocked. However, if you're s-off there's a guide by scott1223 that let's you go back to locked instead of relocked. This way they won't be able to tell of you actually unlocked it or not.

[Q] How to unlock the bootloader?

Whenever I've unlocked a bootloader, it wipes the device. I'd rather do that before I set it up with my apps and accounts.

Correct me if I am wrong but every phone comes with a locked bootloader even the nexus line you need to unlock. We really need to stop calling encrypted bootloaders locked. So this phone isn't encrypted but surely it is locked.
Our G3 is the only one that's unlocked.

I'm confused I have an note 3 verizon. I am trading in my note 3 becaues of lock down bootloaders. will the G3 be easier to unlock? I have been reading that T moblie is the only one that comes unlocked.... Hmmm need some help befoere I jump Thanks
Guys. There is a difference between unlocked and unlockable. This being unlocked means there's nothing really to do. That's why it's so unusual.

I believe It's unlocked. Rooted with twrp
Unlocked, just rooted and installed twrp, nothing else to do about it.

Root on a locked bootloader?

A locked bootloader will likely mean no custom rom support for the Verizon Pixel I assume, but there's still a possibility for root right?

Not so far, root will be increasingly harder as Google is locking down android step by step.

What??? No Google is not going that route. Google are selling phones that can be unlocked. Verizon is selling bootloader that are locked!

Sure they can unlocked, but rooting the device and still be able to boot the phone is getting harder and harder according to developers.
This article from Android Central discusses why having a locked bootloader and Nougat out of the box may mean no root. To me it sounds like if you can unlock the bootloader then you can load a non-stock ROM and root.
