Hi everyone, sorry to ask a question on my first post but I'm a bit p!ssed off. I dropped my orbit yesterday, and now the touch screen won't work. The display is fine, and when the screen dims once the keypad is locked touching the screen will brighten it again. It also worked for about 5 minutes the other night.
Now for the questions:
Do I need a new screen or could it be a connection come loose?
Can I fit/repair it myself?
Where do I purchase the parts from?
Thanks for any help

I think you should at least try a hard-reset.. perhaps that will do because you state that the screen does brighten up when touched. Just a thought tho.
there is a small ribbon type connection between the screen and the main board, this may have come loose (caution: it is VERY fragile). Have a look at the Wiki for a repair manual
hi all! couldn't find a similar thread here.. so here goes..
my BA has been working fine until yesterday, when i slid the keyboard out,
the screen turns reddish!
but it only happens when the keyboard is slid about 75%, beyond the top roy of keys..
when i slide it back, then screen turns back to normal!
i'm guessing there's a cable loose in there, some hardware prob?
haven't dropped it, nor installed any programs recently..
yes it is very probably flex cable malfunction
same problem here.... haven't dissambled it or anything, but when i slide the KB out like even just a bit, sometimes the screen whites out.. have to turn it off and on again for screen to return to normal (sometimes it works). and always, when the slide is moved even a few millimeters, the TS would be misaligned.
Same problem The screen turns white almost always now.. Think it will die soon. The flat cable to the screen can't be changed. I think the only way to solve this is by opening the cable and drawing broken contacts with liquid silver (used for tv remote control buttons).
Anyone got any other solution??????
same problem...in fact its growing nearing the part where i jus touch the slider to move out....im gonna be in helluva trbl wen this thing breaks....anyone help....
To be honest, I think that the only solution is to glue it when it's closed... :baby:
have the same problem here. i know its a flex problem. i just dont use the keyboard anymore so that it wont get damaged further.
Hi all, just want to describe some problems I've been having over the last week or so.
Basically, my Orbit suddenly developed the habit of randomly freezing and displaying wierd patterns on the screen and requiring a soft reset and also just randomly restarting.
I first noticed this about a week ago, the phone did fall out onto the driveway a few days ago but it wasn't nothing it hasn't been through before and the screen is FINE, no dead pixels nothing. This is the ROM I had on it when it first started happening: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912989
My initial thought that it was something do with something installed on it, perhaps a software issue so I did a hard reset but same problems. I changed the ROM a few times but same problems. It's getting to the point where I have to look to buy a new phone.
It's quite difficult to describe what happens when the device freezes. I will try and get a picture or video but it's at random . The best way I can describe it is that it the device freezes, a section of the screen goes black slowly before the remaining section fades to black completely sometimes showing white lines. Moreoever, when I say the screen goes black, I don't mean that it goes off, the screen remains on but black.
Perhaps it is a hardware issue with a loose/faulty connection somewhere? My first thought was that it could be down to the screen connection but when the phone is working, the screen is absolutely normal.
Any suggestions are welcome. Please bear in mind that I've got no trouble in opening the device if needs be (had to change the LCD screen myself, I know, I know, go me! ). Thanks in advance!
Just noticed something. I've had it lying around re-filling up the inbox from a backup but as soon as I attached the charger, the problem occured, so could it be down to something from that as a result?
I've just managed to take a few pics. Theres quite a bit of glare unfortunately however this type of pattern doesn't always occur, sometimes it's less noticable than that.

hi dude,
my first thought was battery but now thinking you might have a loose connection with the motherboard and lcd.
i would check lcd ribbon that connects to motherboard first, obviously you know exacly what i meen, if that is not the problem i would buy a new battery (charge while off, do not turn on untill fully charged new battery)
if both of these do not do the trick then i would consider buying a new device. (unless anyone else has any ideas??)
thanks

Hello xda,
Today I was using my XS as usual I was playing a game. The phone then became a bit hot ( I wouldn't say it overheated just got a little hotter) then out of nowhere my screen went darker, flickered a bit and has remained really dim since.
Initially I thought it may be a software issue so flashed to stock .55 ics but that didn't make a difference.
The only thing that does help is cooling the phone, (in a fridge ) which brings the screen back to normal until the phone warms up again, this made me think there could be a loose /faulty connection somewhere inside the phone but I can't check as I need the correct tools.
So my question is, has anybody else come across this problem?
If you have how did you fix it? (if it's possible to fix)
Or is my lovely XS just dying :'''( ?
P. S. My phone has taken a lot of abuse so that may be the reason lol
Thanks to any help in advance
The screen dims to keep it from overheating. Its a safety action to keep your phone from burning.

No man you don't understand my phone screen is PERMANENTLY dim and it didn't overheat because previously I've felt the phone get hotter than it did.
Im nearly sure of the cause now, it must be some form of loose connection. I will report back with facts once I can take it apart.
Any other ideas still welcome, would be nice to hear from someone who's fixed this before.

Duplicate post ny bad
If I could figure out how to delete this,I would. Sorry! The first of it is that my KFHD showed a strange pattern and a couple of letters on the screen in a chalky white color after several hours with Skype open. A friend sleeves me toward an app meant for burn in and out worked completely so that answers my former question of if it was an actual burn in or a glitch.
