Orbit touch screen broken - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi everyone, sorry to ask a question on my first post but I'm a bit p!ssed off. I dropped my orbit yesterday, and now the touch screen won't work. The display is fine, and when the screen dims once the keypad is locked touching the screen will brighten it again. It also worked for about 5 minutes the other night.
Now for the questions:
Do I need a new screen or could it be a connection come loose?
Can I fit/repair it myself?
Where do I purchase the parts from?
Thanks for any help
Simon Rose

I think you should at least try a hard-reset.. perhaps that will do because you state that the screen does brighten up when touched. Just a thought tho.

there is a small ribbon type connection between the screen and the main board, this may have come loose (caution: it is VERY fragile). Have a look at the Wiki for a repair manual

screen problem when keyboard is slid out

hi all! couldn't find a similar thread here.. so here goes..
my BA has been working fine until yesterday, when i slid the keyboard out,
the screen turns reddish!
but it only happens when the keyboard is slid about 75%, beyond the top roy of keys..
when i slide it back, then screen turns back to normal!
i'm guessing there's a cable loose in there, some hardware prob?
haven't dropped it, nor installed any programs recently..
yes it is very probably flex cable malfunction
same problem here.... haven't dissambled it or anything, but when i slide the KB out like even just a bit, sometimes the screen whites out.. have to turn it off and on again for screen to return to normal (sometimes it works). and always, when the slide is moved even a few millimeters, the TS would be misaligned.
Same problem The screen turns white almost always now.. Think it will die soon. The flat cable to the screen can't be changed. I think the only way to solve this is by opening the cable and drawing broken contacts with liquid silver (used for tv remote control buttons).
Anyone got any other solution??????
same problem...in fact its growing nearing the part where i jus touch the slider to move out....im gonna be in helluva trbl wen this thing breaks....anyone help....
To be honest, I think that the only solution is to glue it when it's closed... :baby:
have the same problem here. i know its a flex problem. i just dont use the keyboard anymore so that it wont get damaged further.

HTC Touch Diamond Screen not responding

Hi All,
My diamond screen suddenly stopped responding. The screen calibration is also not working. I tried a hard reset and after that, it stopped at the screen 'Tap the screen to setup your windows phone'. I am not even able to do that. Any help is appreciable. Thanks in advance.

Try re-flashing a rom, or maybe your touch screen (digitizer) needs replacing, if you do this yourself i would recommend buying the digitizer and lcd together as one, it will make a whole lot easier trust me lol. The lcd screen is easy to break.
Had this problem, too, but since I couldn't get back to stock SPL at that time I put my Diamond into a shelf for about 2 days.
When I then tried to get back to stock SPL the screen suddenly responded again.
So, try to take off the battery for a long time (more than a day) and hope it recovers.
Didn't have the problem again.

I had a similar problem solved with changing the touch screen since the phone was under warranty I have to revert to the stock SPL and stock ROM before I gave it for service. If your phone is not under warranty you can buy the touch screen from ebay.com with a manual and all required instruments for replacing the same.
This happened to me because I was talking to someone over an hour in a humid place which caused sweat to get into the phone through the speakers.

Solution
Okay, I've just had this problem with an HTC Touch, and I think this works with any HTC that has a "digitizer" rather than an all-in-one touchscreen (I think newer phones have digitisers).
I'm not sure if this will always work, but I've just done it - sometimes the inactive touch screen is "broken" because the layers are stuck together (so the phone can't tell where the touch is, hence unresponsive). With mine, I looked at the screen side on and could see a kind of "oily" patch in the light.
The solution is to get masking/gaffa tape - the very sticky brown one. Stick it down on the screen/digitizer and then keep pulling it off - this pulls the layers from each other. I kept repeating this lots before it worked - and in the end I pulled the top layer completely off (I think you should pull from the top of the phone, as the layers need to be attached at the bottom of the screen/digitizer). Once it pulled away, I gently lay it back down (after panicking!!) and hey presto it started working again.
Good luck!

Putting the phone in the fridge makes screen work!
I know this is an old thread but why does putting the phone in the fridge for a few minutes make the touch screen work? Even if I put it out of a moving car and it cools down, then it works for a bit.
Anyone know why this is and how I can fix the phone permanently?

O2 XDA Orbit Screen Replacement

Wondering if anyone can help me with this or has experienced the same...
I got a used XDA Orbit with a cracked LCD screen, when I booted it up the screen came on and was partially usable above the crack. I decided to order a new screen to fix it, and after putting the new one in the screen doesn't light up at all. I thought, maybe the new screen is bad, so I put the old screen back in but it won't light up either. Any ideas?
FYI I have experience in repairing cellphones and flashing and unlocking, etc., and I have learned ALOT from xda-developers (thanks all you guys, you are incredibly helpful, generous and intelligent!). I'm stumped on this situation, is there something I need to reset or a pressure/contact screw that needs to be in place before the screen will light up? I appreciate all responses!
I have exactly the same problem.
After case change from O2 Orbit to Artemis case the screen does not light up at all and there is nothing to see on it. The device boots normally and the touchscreen reacts under Activesync.
I changed to a new screen with the same result and also flashed the ROM with SD-method... the screen remains dark while the device works.
Maybe the antenna contacts of the backcase have all to be fitting, closin some "case open" detection circuit" so the device starts electric power for the screen?
Any help appreciated, love my P3300/Orbit.

[Q] Replaced evo screen buttons dont light up

I know theres a similar thread with only 4 replies.
a: i re opened the phone disconnected and made sure the screen was properly conected.
b: yes the buttons do respond to touch
is there a piece of code or something that will re enable the lights to go off. Ive had issues with the phone before thinking it was the hardware but it was indeed code...(i.e charging port. on and off button) thought it was the hardware but it was just bad code...
has anyone seen this and been able to make them light up again?
thanks!
You probably damaged the ribbon cable, they are very sensitive. If they still respond to touch, that means only one of the contacts is bad.
I know the answer
I have wondered the same thought but I have found the answer . I replaced ky EVO screen 2 months ago . It was glass only replacement first time for this device. So got the whole thing apart and connected it. successful onto Tue touch and all but i notice the lights so taken a look at the of screen their are clear caps under the touch button and the cap had a tail and it lead to device and it is where the light is in the device so I took each cap off and cleaned it up and put it on at first no epoxy or holding agent and i got the light but i suppose if u use a clear epoxy at the bottom of the screen it may have desired effect

Dropped Note 2. Display blank

Hi,
I dropped my note 2 and the display is blank after that. The motherboard is fine. The phone is booting up and the phone rings when someone calls.
However, even the touch functionality is not working on the blank screen.
So, what do you guys think, just a digitizer replacement will work? or do you think it might need a full LCD assembly replacement. If latter is the case, I might as well dump this phone as its almost End of life.
thanks,
Hi Guys, i am also facing the same problem. The phone was dropped and after an hour the screen started turning blue and within few hours the whole screen went dark blue ( or nearly black). The phone is still switching on and the bottom and side buttons are working but screen is black.
Do i need to replace the screen only or the whole display kit as asked in the first post?
Also i want to take backup of all my contacts, sms, whatsapp messages and other stuff. Is there any way i can do this when there is no display on the screen? Need a solution on urgent basis.
Thanks in advance
