Is it possible to access the Moto 360 heartbeat monitor with other Android apps? I'm interested in using the M360 with Runtastic to also track my heart rate, instead of buying Runtastic's own hardware. Or any other app that allows me to track my jogging and include in the heart sensor.
From what I'm read about the M360, it looks like the heart sensor is only used by the watch and nothing else really makes use of it.
I've love to have a continuous measurement of my heart rate while jogging and have it tracked with an app along with the phone GPS data. I wouldn't even mind if it drained battery faster as long as it lasted for 4hrs or so.
I think once all these apps start taking full advantage if Android Wear and Google Fit they will be able to pull the HRM data. At least, that is what I'm hoping.

I hope so too!. I guess we'll have to wait a month for Android L and everything else to come out and settle down. I'd love to use the M360 doing exercises and not have to use one of those chest bands.
APIs....
I guess IFTTT guys may provide you with a recipe that triggers the heart monitor to the google drive channel so that you can post your heartbit to a spreadsheet or something...we will see...

This app does it for the gear live: Heart Rate Trainer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=portablepixels.heartratetrainer
I assume one can be developed for the moto 360.
I've been using this watchface for a few days on my Moto 360, it seems to work fine: the watchface displays real time heart rate info, along with actual time and HR measurement accuracy).

The UI has nothing fancy, but it gets the job done, and that means that we can expect other developpers to be able to write similar watchfaces, including (I hope) the editors of our favorite fitness applications!

I've always worn my watch on the underside of my wrist, so of course I tried that with this watch. The Moto 360 doesn't seem to work nearly as well when worn on the underside of the wrist. It seems to half-wake (ambient/dim mode) too often, and with minimal arm movement. And I really have to crane my arm to get it to wake completely (so that the watch is facing straight up). When it's worn on the top of my wrist, it seems to wake/sleep very reasonably. Is there any way to reconfigure the watch so that it works well on the underside of my wrist? I'd rather everyone not be able to see the face of the watch, and I'm really struggling to adjust to wearing a watch on the top of my wrist after 30+ years of wearing it on the bottom.
That happens when you use a device a way that it's not meant to be used.

Thank you for your very helpful reply. Apparently I'm the only person in the world that prefers to wear their watch on the inside/bottom of their wrist.
I understand that the "standard" way to wear a watch is on the outside/top of your wrist. I was simply asking whether or not there was a configuration option or trick to get the watch to behave normally while being worn on the bottom of my wrist.

No, there is no way to use the watch in that manner, nor can you use a car as a boat or a plane as a submarine.
This thread is full of win.
Wow, I guess everyone is telling you the equivalent of "You're holding it the wrong way."
I think it is a good idea to have a setting for this. I've seen some people wear their watch this way and even though it seems to be a pretty low percentage, it would just be a matter of programming different orientations to trigger the appropriate responses. I also thought that if the watch didn't have the little strip on the bottom of the display, that the watch could actually be worn in two different orientations. I wonder if there will be a setting in the future for that as well (in other words, wearing it with the button on either the left or the right.)

Just got the Moto 360, so far, very nice. but I'll know more once i give it a full day's test. anyone else have it yet? your impressions?
It's on my Christmas list. I want the metal band one. I'm jealous!
Sent from my Moto X
I got mine, love it so far. I got one the day after launch and put a black pebble steel band on it. Battery life is shorter than other watches but hasn't been an issue.

i'm getting an easy 22+ hrs. seems to do more with how "active" your wrist is than anything else. lately at work, i've been taking off my watch to prevent my wrist from turning over when i type on the keyboard (frequent screen wakes). i usually get my m360 back on the charger with +50% from 7a-10/11p each day.

Battery impact is negligible on the moto x. I still get ~3hrs OST per day on the phone.
With the watch, I'm consistently at the 50% mark after 14 hours on my wrist.
I highly recommend it - certainly a nice extra motivational factor to get more active again.
I've been a fan of wearable tech since before it was practical. Still own a Sony Liveview (which will no longer stay in the band). I really want to like the 360 since it's round, and I have a Moto X that I love. But it looks large. Hope they come out with a smaller lady's version.
FWIW i took it on a 14hr trip and used it with GPS. had the watch off since 8a that morning, charged it up around the afternoon and then enabled GPS guidance. I don't think I got 11hrs before the watch completely died.
on the way back i didn't use GPS and somehow managed to get more than 36hrs. I took it off about 8a on Saturday and it didn't make it back to the cradle until 9:30p Sunday and it still had 23%!
hi both are similar price in the uk at the moment, just bought the zenwatch1 due to the fact you can easily change the strap.
but having major problems updating to lollipop atm...
phone is not being found in zenwatch app also, works fine with replying to mesgs and okgoogle
any help
In my limited experience as a new owner myself, I found that running the update whislt the watch is docked and charging helped.. I managed to upgrade from 4.4 to 5.1.1 quite easily when I found that.
On day 3 of ownership still a little in the messing about with it stage, so far 27 hours off charge and at %50 battery screen off with all notifications, using Slyde style watch face. mine also doesn't work with the zenwatch manager on google apps, but you really won't miss it when you are on 5.1.1. As the Android wear app does most of the things that the Zen manager is supposed to do anyway. I did find on this forum a version of ZW that does work, version 1.5.1.150515, so if you find and install that version, you may find that one works.
I had problems with the Zenwatch Manager phone-unlock facility and got rid of it six months ago - I haven't missed it.
Just a quick report back I had the zenwatch for two days ended up selling it and getting a sw3 the Sony beats it hands down
Speed of the system,
The charge is also faster, take under an hour to fully charge
Battery life Is also better
I wear a watch as much for the aesthetics as the function, and IMO the ZW wins on this score. My ZW does enough of what I need while being better looking in most situations, especially as I have about ten different straps for it.
Having used mine for a few days now, I have to say.. I love it. Stylish, comfortable and decent battery.. Used for over 38hours and still had 24% of the battery left..
I get all the notifications I have selected to get, I can reply directly to texts with pretty accurate voice control and It was under £100.. No issues so far other than the ltest version of ZW manager not working with it but You really don't need it with the watch updated to 5.1.1.
It's akeeper.

So I used to have Xiaomi Mi Band 3 that could do that with an app you download from Play. Is there anyway that makes this possible on GW? It was very convenient being able to see your HR reading in real time while rowing/using eliptical so that effort could be adjusted in order to remain in the aerobic area. And if there isn't such a way to do that currently, is it possible to make such an app? In other words, does Tizen allow apps on Android to access HR readings in realtime? I have an okey experience with programming and would gladly spend my free time to make that possible if no one already did.
Thanks in advance.
tried any hr watchface yet?

Sure, but what I'm after is getting my phone to display my HR readings, not the watch itself

I haven't been able to find a way. Here's a thread that's been out there for a bit longer with more replies. Half the people who reply are confused on what is meant, and no one else seems to have an answer. https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/gear-s3/displaying-heart-rate-phone-t3555867
Fitbit handles this natively right on their dashboard in the phone app, it's disappointing that Samsung can't have this same functionality.
I would love to see an app that does it. Would be great if it also had a short term history graph of the heart rate too.

I am on it. As far as I read in Samsung developers' website it should be possible, but I havn't yet gone into the details and made sure of it 100%.

I found a way to do this from my Galaxy Watch Active using "Heart Rate and Speed Transmitter for Zwift and Arcade Fitness" from the Galaxy Store https://galaxystore.samsung.com/geardetail/org.bipr.hrspeedtransmitter which broadcasts your heart rate over BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). Once you have that running and your device paired in Bluetooth, you can use "Heart Rate Monitor" from the Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bmi.hr_monitor

You can also do this to a PC by using "Heart Beat Monitor" from the Microsoft Store https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/heart-beat-monitor/9wzdncrdkw2v?activetab=pivot:overviewtab This one seems a little buggy on getting it to work, but it does the trick once you get it running.
