Hello all,
I have recently purchased the AT&T LG G3 (D850 model) and I am interested in rooting it.
I have noticed that there seem to be three main option for doing this:
Stump Root, IORoot, and Towel Root.
Since this is a brand new phone, I was wondering if I could get some advice on what the best and safest way of rooting my device will be.
Thanks for any replies!
I think stump root is now the easiest way to root. Just install the apk and follow directions, install super su from play store and your good to go.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
I just purchased my AT&T G3 last week and Towelroot is the easiest I was done within a minute. No problems so far.
I used stump root. Downloaded the app..followed directions. Easy as pie...

Ok, thanks for the replies, it looks like I will be using stump root to root my phone.
I just had a couple more questions.
First, I was wondering what can I use to achieve a custom DPI on the phone once I root it? There aren't any ROMs for the D850 so it won't be in any ROM,
Next, if I transfer my Titanium Backup data from my last phone to this one, can I restore my apps and appdata with it?
Thank you!

Rooting the phone is really easy, infact you can do it without even using a PC (towelroot). At the moment there is no custom recovery, but hopefully we will see that change once the phone is released in more countries (later this week).
As for unroot, one simple method would be to re-flash stock, but I assume you are looking for an easier solution than that.
That's what I am looking for too because of the bloody Barclays Bank app.
I want to root my LG G3, block ads, bloatware etc and then unroot to get Barklays app working
S4min, Grand 2, Note 2 - I always rooted phones and then unrooted by uninstalling root in SuperSu app.
Is there any similar method for LG G3?
Re-flashing to unroot doesn't make sense for me cos I will loose everything I needed the root for

I don't have my G3 yet to check (and not sure I will be rooting it straight away when I do get it, I want to see how far I can go without root first), but I cannot see why the unroot method in SuperSU would not work.

Flashing back to stock should take you back as if you have never rooted. Assuming all you did was root the phone.
If/when there are further modifications such as unlocking bootloader and flashing custom recovery images this might change.
Hi peeps, looked at rooting my nice new G3 and went in for the kill with towel root [emoji16] only to find out didn't support my version. Decided to go with purpledrake (not got there yet) found a couple of apps not working because of root which root checker says I don't have. My question is do I need to root now regardless even if only to unroot? To get things back to normal?

After rooting, did you install SuperSU?
Also, there's StumpRoot as a 3rd option.
That's just it. Towel root told me my phone wasn't supported and root checker says I don't have root, yet the app in question says I do so super user seems a bit pointless.

SuperSU is needed after you root to give apps root access. Try to install it, if it works, you're rooted and you can go along with your rooted apps.
Otherwise, try StumpRoot (Towel and Purple's didn't support my version either), install SuperSU and enjoy your root apps!
Tried to install it with no luck. Seems something's gone wrong somewhere.
Says I need to manually 're root of I just upgraded to android 4.3. As it can't install su binaries.

Time to give StumpRoot a shot then.
Yeah I think your right. The only issue left is the app I want to use fails when rooted and the root cloak module/app doesn't currently support it [emoji20]
Edit:
Well i tried stump root and got nowhere [emoji20] looking like purple is my only way forward. And if i want to use that particular app then root, unroot is the only way forward. [emoji45]
So a few months ago I used Stump Root to root my Tmobile LG G3, then without thinking I installed a software update. Now when I go to Stump Root it says i'm rooted, but when I go to SuperSU it says I need to manually re-root. How do I do this?

Just use purple drake to reroot especially on T-Mobile. Works perfectly on T-Mobile G3
I know the phone is less than a month old but has anyone been able to root this phone? if so what method did they use. I have the phone and for the price it is great I just want to take off all the bloatware.
This phone has been launched recently in the market. So brother I advice you to keep checking the rooting apps threads such as KingRoot, FramaRoot etc.
I just bought this D851 and I am with Wind Mobile in Canada. I have tried rooting in all the ways I've researched online. Youtube has several methods none have seemed to work for me. I've had many rooted phones and flashed many ROMS with those phone. I'm no pro but I know what I'm doing basically. I just cannot figure out how to root this phone. Any help or solutions to this would be very helpful and appreciated.
Assuming the phone is running LP, and you've already tried the one-click method, then use the second method in this thread...

Thanks I'll try it out. I have v20g and Lollipop 5.0.1. Purple Drake and Towel root did not work.
