[Q] "PREPARING SIM CARD" Error - HTC One X

Hi all,
I have been experiencing this issue for a couple of months now and and it seems to be getting worse.
Every few minutes, my phone will not be able to send / receive calls or use data, and then a message "Preparing SIM card" will pop up. Some times it will take 2 - 3 rounds of the "Preparing SIM card" message before all connectivity starts working again. The signal bars are always full before, during, and after the message.
Quite often I will be trying to place a call, and the number will look like its dialing for a couple of seconds and then go back to the dial pad. After re-trying to dial the number 4 - 5 times, the "Preparing SIM card" message will pop up, and then the call will be able to go through.
I feel this is a software issue rather than hardware, because there is no physical intervention required to make it work. I am also using a replacement SIM card just in case it was the card itself, but no difference.
Thje phone is a HTC One X International running ARHD 33.1. I have done a full wipe of all partitions and re-installed from scratch as well, but still same problem.
Any ideas or help appreciated.

Help! No more GSM network/reception :(

Hi
I replaced my P3300's screen a while ago because it was cracked. Everything seemed to go OK and the phone worked fine for a few days.
I don't know if this is related or not (maybe I messed the antenna up during the process, but since it worked for a while afterward I'd guess not...?)
Anyway, for the last couple of days I've had no network reception whatsoever.
The last time I remember it working was in the evening a few days ago. I fell asleep with the WIFI on and woke up with the phone dead. I turned it on and it didn't ask me for my PIN like it usually does, and it couldn't find my GSM network. It's been like that since.
When I press the green "dial" button nothing happens. When I go into settings > telephone, it asks me for my PIN and I can then access the options but it doesn't find any networks when I search.
Now every time I turn it off and back on, it never asks for my PIN.
I've tried removing the battery and the sim card but that hasn't helped.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance
Meh. On a possibly maybe related note, I've just realised my PocketCM Contacts hangs when I try to launch it. Could it be a loose sim card connection causing both these problems? Although I'm pretty sure all my contacts are on the phone and not the sim card, and the sim looks fine and is placed properly...
edit - just been into programmes > sim manager (not sure that's what it is in english, my phone is french) and I get a "sim busy" error message (again, not sure if that's exactly what it is in english...). Hmmmmm
Well it gets even weirder... It seems I can receive and send text messages!
I've been getting texts from my operator saying I have new voice messages (which I obviously can't listen to) and I've also had texts from a friend and been able to reply to them and they've been received. Even though the icon at the top still has an exclamation mark so supposedly no network.
My iGo GPS also doesn't seem to work anymore (it hangs during initialisation process) although Tomtom works fine.
Someone please tell me they have an idea what could be going on! This is doing my head in
Dam, you have all my solidarity man!
Are you using radio 3.39.90 by chance? Even if not I would still flash another radio.I also suggest to check that your device was correctly reassembled if you have any doubt about it.

"Limited Service: Emergency Calls Only" Problem

Hi Guys,
Recently my phone has been receiving this message every now and then and I'm unable to make/receive any calls/texts. Fortunately wifi still works. Occasionally it will say something like "new sim card or sim card not found" <= something along those lines. It's basically not recognizing my sim card sometimes. This problem sometimes end when I turn off the phone, and charge till full battery, but it eventually gets the problem again at the end of the day.
Some things to be noted:
-Yes my phone IS rooted, so I'm pretty much f*cked for warranty.
-I changed numbers recently, from a Toronto (416) to a Waterloo number (226) as I am a university student living on campus.
-Yes I tried reverting to the original rom via nandroid backup but the problem still persists.
-Got the phone about a month ago.
-Started having these problems after living in Waterloo for a while.
Hopefully, it is a sim card problem but if anyone else has any suggestions I'll be grateful =)

SMS Messages Not Sending

I really have tried to avoid posting but I'm really not sure what to attempt next. I've been through a few threads on the XDA as well as trawled Google but I've not really come up to much.
Basically my One X has been fine since I got it up until the last couple of weeks, I'm not entirely sure if that coincided with a software update or any other changes I could have made but I never seemed to have a problem initially.
I've been using GO SMS since I got the phone, but having just re-installed the app to no avail and having just tried the exact message within a 60 second window through the standard messager it still did not send. This has happened in alternative locations too, so it doesn't appear to be signal based on where I am. After the 4th attempt and the message would not send I put my phone into Airplane mode to reactivate the sim, after doing so and turning it off the message sent.. So it might even be network related.. I've no idea! I've removed the sim card and left it for a few minutes to see whether when it's reinserted if there is still a problem, failing that though I am out of ideas!
Just for your reference I am with Vodafone, totally stock phone as it comes out of the box running the updated 1.29.401.11 software
Any help greatly appreciated.

Can't send SMS and Calls after 4.3 update

I saw a topic almost the same as mine but I don't really understand what they're all saying as I am an Android Noob.. I think my case is different because I upgraded my phone without using the leaked one..
I just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to 4.3 last Tuesday, 12/24/13 and today, I noticed that I can't send and receive SMS and Calls on my phone. I don't know if the problem is my phone or my sim card. I tried restarting the phone and reinserting the sim. I almost tried everything. I can't try a new sim because I have no extra micro sim in my house.
When I send a text, it says "currently unable to send your message. it will be sent when the service becomes available" then it goes on a message loop. When I try to call someone, it says "Not registered on network". The signal bar is full though.
Is there a way to solve this issue without having to root my phone? I still have it on warranty and I can't really follow complicated instructions since I'm new to Android.
if there is really no way of solving this issue, then i'll go to the SSC. however, i really want to fix this alone cause' i'm pretty sure that they'll wipe off everything from my phone. if wiping every off of my phone will solve the issue, than i guess i'll just have to give it to SSC.
Thank you.

Invalid/missing Sim card

I have a T-mobile G3 (obviously) that I've had for about a year and recently it has been saying that the sim is either invalid or not installed. This is the same sim card I have been using for a while. Occasionally after several restarts and removals/re-inserts I can get it to work for a bit but then it will to back to invalid sim. Does anyone have any suggestions of what the problem might be or how to fix it? I get both the invalid sim and sim not installed messages.
Is a SIM card from a different carrier installed? Have you tried a new SIM, performed a factory reset, or possibly shimmed the card so it fits tighter in the slot?
Nope. T-mobile sim card and a T-mobile phone...all my previous phones I have rooted or at least unlocked or something. I have done absolutely nothing to modify this one from stock.

did you figured out the problem? It just started happening to me.. super annoying...
Nothing that I tried worked. Ended up deciding it was a hardware issue that wasn't worth trying to fix.... I was thinking of replacing the Sim tray but that's close to impossible on that phone. Ended up just trading it in for a G4

Old topic but the same thing started happening to me this week. At first, it wouldn't happen till I would reboot the phone and it was pop up with the no SIM card symbol and subsequent reboots wouldn't clear it.
EDIT: Tmo D851 with same Tmo SIM card since purchase, on Tmo network this whole time.
Surprisingly, flashing an old backup img would fix the issue for a day or two and upon another reboot, it would be back.
Now this morning, phone was sluggish and locking up, rebooted it and the dreaded symbol was back and no matter which backup img I used, it wouldn't clear. I had thought it was one of the app permissions I had blocked (though none were system apps) and reset all permissions, cleared all caches, thinking it was a software issue. Still wouldn't clear.
I even went so far as to do a complete factory restore via the LG flash tool, right back to out-of-the-box-new, and STILL the no SIM card error was there. Tried rooting and flashing another backup, still there. Add in numerous rinse and repeats of various steps and still there.
Went to T-Mobile and they swapped for a new SIM card and it was still popping up. They did the normal, factory restore from the settings menu, still there.
I was starting to think Tmo was blocking my account due to my data usage (paranoid, I know...) and asked if my account was being blocked or my number and was told nothing listed or said.
Of course, the 1-yr warranty on this phone just ended in September and I'm high and dry with getting this fixed.
Also of note, none of the pins are broken, misshaped, flat or other. I even tried placing a business card piece on top of the SIM card to try and see if it wasn't making contact, still no joy.
The SIM card does work in one of my old Tmo phones, so it's not the account.
Just sucks that this phone is now crippled from such a silly mechanism as such, first time with an error/problem like this with SIM card phones. And I kept this phone in pristine condition, no drops, water, glass protector, etc. And it has never been dropped or other, just started up as such... My wife has the same exact phone and no problems with her's. Yet.
schneiderm3709, did you trade it in at a Tmo store? They took it with the SIM card error or you didn't mention it? Did they take it with the SIM card error at a reduced value? If either, what did you get for it?
Thanks.
Yeah, I determined that it wasn't the sim card either. I'd have no problem putting my sim in another phone, and another sim in my phone would have the same issues.. All the flashing and everything did nothing for me. I also tried a piece of paper on top of the sim card when I slid it in to help it make better contact. This worked for a little while but eventually didn't do anything. My hypothesis is that one of the pins was going bad/had a crack, and when the sim card was installed it would lose contact, and when you took it out it would pop back up to where it's supposed to be, so you couldn't see the problem without microscopic inspection.
I told T-mobile exactly what was happening with mine, and they tried all the same things they tried with you, also still to no avail. Their requirements for trade in are very simple actually, 1: NO Water Damage, 2: NO Screen Damage (General wear scratches are okay), and 3: The device turns on. Mine did all of this, just wouldn't connect to the network. They gave me $100 credit towards the new G4. I Love it and don't know if I'd ever be able to leave LG world....Unless maybe the droid turbo somehow comes over to T-Mobile. I don't know if that trade in value has changed now since the LG V10 came out or not. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have the same problem too! Really frustrating, I've tried everything and I cannot pinpoint the problem.
I found the following solution by stevenpurwadipura on Reddit
Guys, i found a fix for this. I just figured out this trick, so i don't know if this is a real fix or just a luck. Go to settings - apps - choose option - configure apps - modify system settings - choose option - show system - select NETWORK - change it into 'No'. Then restart your phone.
I restart my phone and it detects my SIM again. But as I said, I'm not too sure if this is really a fix or just a luck.

Invalid Sim Card error in LG G3 tmobile
Hi.. I'm getting the invalid sim card error after restarting my Lg g3. The sim card works fine on my husbands phone.. so guess its same issue as yours. Did you have a valid warranty when you got the 100$ credit from Tmobile for Lg G4?

Invalid Sim
I too have the same problem for sim 2 in my LG G3 D858HK. Factory data resetting did not solved the problem. I do not know what is the reason, But now i could solve it by resetting network settings. Software version - Android 6, D858HK 30b, In back up and restore there is an option to reset network settings. Done this for sim 1 and sim 2. Problem solved.
i am having this invalid sim problem after upgrade to 30e;
I found a fix for this. i don't know if this is a real fix but just flipping from yes to no and vice versa followed by reboot seems to work consistently.
i copied it. credit should go to the original poster
Go to settings - apps - choose option - configure apps - modify system settings - choose option - show system - select NETWORK - change it into 'No' or vice versa (from no to yes). Then restart your phone.

Same thing happening to me. I took it to a t-mobile store and they said the network upgraded and some phones are now obsolete because of it. Also, because they don't have contracts anymore, I cant get any deals on a new phone even though they didn't warn me that my phone would stop working.
Hello everyone,
First of all thanks to all who had solutions. All worked temporarily. I have a stock TMO D851 30G with the stock MM 6.0 TMO ROM. It has worked awesome for the past three years I have had it. I have it unlocked via IMEI and no root....yet. I started having this issue about a 4 months ago. I sent the phone to LG and the "techs" there checked the phone and found no issues. Still having the same issue. However, I found that if I restart in safe mode it acknowledges the SIM and works fine. Use it in safe for about 30 minutes and restart. I get my network back. I am stuck. I figure there is something in the firmware or ROM that is causing a conflict. Any ideas???? I am completely fed up and out of ideas
Sent from my LGE LG-D851 using XDA Labs
Update to this problem. It is actually a hardware issue. However it does not have to do with the sim Tray at all. It is due to a bad connection on the processor. Took mine to a repair shop here in my town in mexico. He did a reball on it (flux and reheat of the processor) this was two weeks ago and it has completely fixed the issue. Hope this helps the group out. Thanking all of you that threw in your two cents. It was all helpful
