I saw a topic almost the same as mine but I don't really understand what they're all saying as I am an Android Noob.. I think my case is different because I upgraded my phone without using the leaked one..
I just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to 4.3 last Tuesday, 12/24/13 and today, I noticed that I can't send and receive SMS and Calls on my phone. I don't know if the problem is my phone or my sim card. I tried restarting the phone and reinserting the sim. I almost tried everything. I can't try a new sim because I have no extra micro sim in my house.
When I send a text, it says "currently unable to send your message. it will be sent when the service becomes available" then it goes on a message loop. When I try to call someone, it says "Not registered on network". The signal bar is full though.
Is there a way to solve this issue without having to root my phone? I still have it on warranty and I can't really follow complicated instructions since I'm new to Android.
if there is really no way of solving this issue, then i'll go to the SSC. however, i really want to fix this alone cause' i'm pretty sure that they'll wipe off everything from my phone. if wiping every off of my phone will solve the issue, than i guess i'll just have to give it to SSC.
Thank you.

Hi guys...I am quite new to the whole XDA thing...got a second hand XDA mini S, did a hard reset to start fresh. Trying to use it with Vodafone sim card though. Sim card seems ok, I can send and receive txt messages, but unable to make and receive calls, same problem...starts dialing and then shows 0.00 call ended, no signals, no beeps, nothing...tried with a headset, same stuff....I rang Vodafone to see if they can help with the call settings but they werent very helpful, as the phone is not one of theirs, they just said speak to O2, well I cant really as it is a second hand handset.
I was advice form Vodafone that perhaps the phone is locked to O2 and thats why it can't make any calls, but i can send and receive txt messages and the sim card is read as normal....i am quite confused. I have not tried to do any unlocking on the phone as the sim card seemed to work fine...Can anyone help....Can this be a result from the hard reset I've done..I read somewhere that other people were unable to make calls after hard reset.......
They maybe IMEI blocked, e.g. insurance claimed phone, stolen phone, etc. I think you can call them and see if the IMEI has been blocked. Search the forum, IMEI blocked issue have been discussed here.

Sorry for the stupid question but can you send me a link or directions how can I find a solutions to this IMEI blocked issue. Is there a software to unblock or change? Have not rang O2 to check, but I have the feeling that they will reffer me to the ebay seller.....as I am not a O2 customer, thats what they kind of said to me before.
You don't call O2.. just call your network service (Orange, T-Mobile, etc) providers, they may able to help you to check. Or just google for "IMEI block blacklist" for information.
Trying to use it with Vodafone sim card though. Sim card seems ok, I can send and receive txt messages, but unable to make and receive calls, same problem

If he can send and received text then its not IMEI barred, once a phone is IMEI bared you'll be unable to register with the network at all, and would look like the phone is SIM locked or just not getting signal.
It could be either, a bar on the network, low signal, or something weird with the SIM. Check the sim in another phone, if you can make calls its a hardware issue, if not then its a network issue
Thanks for the advice, sim card is working fine with other handsets, it's just a normal contract Voda sim card. Still can't get it to work with the XDA though. Did second hard reset and same stuff....can send/receive messages but canNOT make/receive calls. Does any one know if this may be result of the hard reset and is there any way of fixing it. If it is a hardware problem as suggested previously what is the way of sorting it out?
Me again...just tried it with O2 sim card....very strange...kept searching for the network for more than 10 min and nothing happened....had to turn it off at the end. 3 card don't work as well, same situation...searching for network....The Vodafone sim card seems to be the only one that gets full reception straight away but then again the problem with making calls remains...I have no idea what network the device was issued on before...
still cant get it to work tried all your ideas
nooooo i really like this phone but cant use it as a phone

Hello! I don't know why but my phone started having this problem. It was out of nowhere. Well, maybe not, I've flashed my phone with the official mango update like two weeks ago, and it was working fine.
And today I saw that that I messages doesn't send out. I tried to call/text myself from other phone, and I couldn't. Phone displays gsm network name in phone hub, and also it shows full gsm connection bars(five of them), so you couldn't tell that something is wrong until you try to text or call. When you call the phone says "dialing..." but this shows forever and there's no sound from the speaker. It's worth mentioning that I've received few messages I've send to myself, but just about 2hours from sending, and then I tried to send a few more and haven't received those. Also, I've suceeded to call for a few times but after a long long wait(like at least 30sec) with the "dialing..." message shown. However, I cannot reach the phone when calling from my other phone.
I've tried to turn my phone on/off, to take the battery/sim card off, reseting the device, but none of these things helped. Then I've decided to flash my device. I've flashed my phone with DeepShining Mango custom ROM, and it seems to be working fine, but the problem still exists.
I don't know what else to do. And that's a major problem, because noone can call or text me. As I've said in the beginning, it was out of the sudden, I haven't done anything to my phone. Just yesterday I was using my phone normally, texted and called with no problem.
So I'm asking yours, guys, help. Could you please suggest what I could do? Thank you very much!
P.S. I've bought this phone from second hand and it was unlocked, but it has an orange logo on the battery cover, so I suppose it was locked to orange.
Did you pay your bill?
I have a prepaid card.
Ok, do you have a another SIM to test
I really have tried to avoid posting but I'm really not sure what to attempt next. I've been through a few threads on the XDA as well as trawled Google but I've not really come up to much.
Basically my One X has been fine since I got it up until the last couple of weeks, I'm not entirely sure if that coincided with a software update or any other changes I could have made but I never seemed to have a problem initially.
I've been using GO SMS since I got the phone, but having just re-installed the app to no avail and having just tried the exact message within a 60 second window through the standard messager it still did not send. This has happened in alternative locations too, so it doesn't appear to be signal based on where I am. After the 4th attempt and the message would not send I put my phone into Airplane mode to reactivate the sim, after doing so and turning it off the message sent.. So it might even be network related.. I've no idea! I've removed the sim card and left it for a few minutes to see whether when it's reinserted if there is still a problem, failing that though I am out of ideas!
Just for your reference I am with Vodafone, totally stock phone as it comes out of the box running the updated 1.29.401.11 software
Any help greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem, AT&T HOX, stock 1.73.502 rom, completely un-modded.
You are not alone my friend.
Hi everyone. I bought a galaxy note 2 from a friend two days ago and now I cant make calls, use 4g data or send/recieve sms, everything else works (including wifi), let me be as clear as possible as to what happened.
I purchased the phone from my friend 2 days ago and it was working fine. its a Telcel (mexico) galaxy note 2 N7100. I tested the device fully and everything was working, I made calls etc and data was wotking also.
I took the phone home and used a soft damp cloth to wipe the battery cover clean, it was greasy and all note I removed the battery cover from the device. Afterwards I replaced the battery cover, connected to my home wifi and then there was a message on my phone "set up software update' which i agreed to .
I then switched my sim card with a different one( it had call credit on it). and upon powering on the phone, i was greeted with a screen with a small padlock and the words "SIMLOCK". i swiped up and bypassed that screen. MY PHONE WAS SHOWING 4 SIGNAL BARS BUT UPON TRYING TO MAKE A CALL OR SEND A TEXT MESSAGE, I keep getting error messages such as "NOT REGISTERED ON NETWORK".
I have tried every single thing to get rid of this. I even purchased galaxsim unlock from the playstore and it claimed to have removed the simlock but i kept getting that screen with the padlock and simlock message and also no calls or text can be send or recieved. I tred different custom roms, official roms, I tried flashing different kernels, modems etc you name it and still I cant use my phone.
The phone was on android version 4.1.2, now its on the official/rooted 4.3. I read online that samsung may have region locked my phone but this is very strange because my friend was using it for several months. and the issue arised when I took it home. I have never given up on an android device EVER. I have spent days trying and succeeding in unbricking phones but for the first time i actually feel helpless.
I have used so many samsung devices befoe including a galaxy s4 from europe without any problems.
Lasty even when there is no simcard in the phone, THE PHONE IS SHOWING 4 TO 5 SIGNAL BARS ALL THE SAME, IS THIS NORMAL??? also the phone detects the simcard, i can see my contacts etc. The phone can search and detect available networks also but when i try to connect to a network manually it fails to do so, or sometimes it will connect but i still get that message saying network not available.
also the phone only allows emergency calls, but when I try to to dial emergency it says OUT OF SERVICE AREA. Someone please help me if you can

Something really weird is going on with my At&t galaxy s3. I'm new to this forum so I'll just explain what I'm experiencing and do my best to work through it will all of you. This phone got rooted by someone else and when I got it, the rooted program was in chinese and was acting all weird and wasn't getting good reception, although it was before it was rooted. I flashed it back to normal and it's acting very curious. It will receive an At&t simcard but the service bars will go from 1 bar to 4g to Edge to 1 bar all in a matter of 20 seconds or so and doesn't seem to work. It will occasionally work to send messages, make calls, but it seems like it can't ever receive calls. I checked and the IMEI number is still the same. Also, I had originally tried to unlock it to another carrier and when I put in different simcards (From other carriers such as verizon) the service bars don't show up, instead, all it shows is a cancel sign and doesn't ask for an activation code or anything. I'm honestly not sure what to do here, I thought I had broken the simcard reader and replaced that, but that made no difference. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Unlock is supposed to be permanent so it's odd that you lost it.
Now as for your problem, a lot of people are getting this issue lately, where unlocking damages their nv file. The solution can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43842387

Thanks for your quick response I have been looking for a long time and never saw this issue before. I'm not sure where I'll be able to find a replacement nv file...but i'll see if anyone I know has a galaxy s3 from at&t. Maybe once I do this the unlock issue won't be messed up anymore.
