I recently got a s3 and it came with 4.4.2 OTA and I rooted and installed TWRP however when I go to flash a rom specifically CM 11. I get a Assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader" error. I've looked around for solutions and come to find that you need MD8 bootloader to flash. I ran through the checks to see my bootloader and version and it was in fact MD8. So now i turn here to ask. Should I flash the whole kitkat update again to make sure I have MD8. I just recently got cm 10 on the s3 fine so I'm anxious to get cm 11. Please help

well first i would install Philz recovery cause most people here would say that it works best on ND8, and if you still can't flash CM11 with Philz i would say check to see if the MD5 sum matches whats on the Download page...
Would I be able to flash this recovery on top of TWRP or do I need to do something to remove TWRP before hand?

I was wrong it is the same md5sum but it is a snapshot not sure if you can flash those as you would with a stable release. Upon having 10.2 cm (being its the only one I can flash at the moment) i tried to flash an update though cm and this also failed so I'm not sure where to go from here

CM10.1 and newer are not compatible with ICS bootloaders, Have you checked your firmware to see what it actually is? sometimes people mistaken baseband as their actual firmware when it isn't.
Use Terminal Emulator ( If Rooted ) to find out what your bootloader is.
Code:
su
getprop ro.bootloader
Latest KK bootloader for sprint should be L710VPUDND8 if it's not that, look up your phone model and update it to the correct one and try flashing again.

Dunno. I've been running CM11 D2LTE nightlies for months. I'm still on L710VPBMD4 loader with the old MK3.
Maybe it sounds stupid, but try to completely revert to stock first, then re-root and flash the d2LTE M10 zip in Philz. Just a thot, yo.
you might need to remove the asserts which is quite dangerous if you don't know what you're doing,
as always google and youtube is there, just search for remove asserts ro.bootloader or status 7 error.
removing them wont have the ROMs updater-script look for specific devices and bootloader.
and it should install without failure if you flash the right ROM to the right device.

So I successfully rooted my S3 (Bell I747M), installed TWRP recovery, booted into the recovery, created a backup (thank god!), wiped using TWRP (factory reset -> wipe dalvik -> wipe cache -> wipe data) and then went into install, selected the CyanogenMod zip and swiped to flash. Failed. Every time. I tried numerous wipes but flashing CM just kept on failing. So I got fed up and restored to my backup.
But I really want CM! One more maybe-important thing is that when I was installing TWRP, it said my device was d2can, even though my device is actually I747M. But I remember when downloading CM I had to download the d2att version (that was listed as the one compatible with my I747M), but TWRP was saying d2can and not giving me the option to choose anything else so I just went with it.
Please try and help me!

Hmm alright, are you able to flash any other roms?
I had a similar issue and im trying to recall what I did to overcome this..
EDIT: I think I remember. I flashed a different CWM version and for some reason it prevented me from flashing CM10.1.. Do a google search for "CanadaGS3CWM6.0.1.2.tar" and let me know if it works. If you cant find it shoot me a PM and ill look for it.
Thanks for the reply.
I haven't tried flashing any other room but I have successfully flashed a debloating software made by mrRobinson.
Also‚ I'm not using CWM‚ I'm using TWRP. I installed it through the GooManager app found in the Play store.
If I have already installed TWRP then will I still be able to install that CWM file you are suggesting I install?
It is late now and I am going to bed but I'll be back on tomorrow evening to try again so I'll try what you said then.

I think the issue is that I'm trying to flash a d2att ROM on a TWRM that thinks I'm on a d2can device when in reality I'm on an I747M. The d2att is said to work on the I747M on CyanogenMod's website though so I think the issue is flashing the d2att when TWRP thinks I'm on a d2can.
Anyone have a clue as to what to do about that?

Yup just in odin like a root file. It goes in the pda section. Uncheck reboot,. When it finishes unhook the cable pull the battery and than reboot into recovery after. Sometimes the flash doesn't stick after a reboot.
Cm10.1 has a release candidate out right now rc4 it's pretty stable.
You'll need to make sure your bootlader is up to date before you flash it though.

The second link has the latest boot loaders sorry I should have mentioned that. It has to match the one listed.
I don't know what you downloaded but the twrp recovery off their site should be the .tar to load in odin. The .img file you'd have to load using adb. Easier to use the odin file. No unzipping just flash with odin.

Btw, CM10.1 RC5 is pretty stable with good battery life.
Could you please tell me what method was used? I have a Bell GS3 as well. I followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 to get root and recovery today. I have now tried flashing CM10.1 using the latest CWM and TWRP d2att recoveries and neither work. I'm giving up for today but will try again after work tomorrow. I've read stuff about changing the build.prop files to trick the phone but I don't know where to start.

So I'm currently running CM 10.0 and I'm trying to upgrade (through CWM) to 10.1.2 stable, but I am running into a status 7 error. I have done the following (In no particular order)
-made backup and wiped phone (including cache and dalvik cache)
-flashed the latest bootloader
-double checked MD5 sum and it was a match
-upgraded to most recent CWM
-tried fixing the assertions (as highonandroid suggests)
So what am I doing wrong?

Do a search for status 7
Because you've updated your cwm than your bootloader is out of date.

You can have an old bootloader and have a newer modem.
Modem is your current baseband.
Here's an example. My bootloader is LK4 which is good for flashing and my modem (baseband) is MF1
Go in terminal emulator and type
su
getprop ro.bootloader
It'll tell you your bootloader if it's different than your baseband

In the future, it helps a lot if you include more information. Just saying somethings wrong doesn't give anyone much to go on when trying to help. Errors, logs, descriptions of the issue are the first things anyone will ask you for, so it will save you a good bit of time if you include as much as you can in your first post.
In your case, I am just assuming you got a status error related to your firmware build. CM doesn't keep their updater-scripts updated with new firmware versions, so you will have to manually edit the script to either include your firmware version, or delete all "assert" lines. You will also probably need to delete the rom signature files in the meta-inf folder.
Is there another way just to flash that?

nope. unless someone has posted a fixed version of the rom somewhere in the roms thread. Then you can flash that instead. There is no other way around it though as the very first action taken during flash is to check your firmware version against those included in the script as ok to flash on. If it does not match, it will automatically error out. This was done to prevent people from flashing the rom on older builds which proved to be much more unstable. At the time it was a good idea, but only if they intended to update the scripts every time a new firmware was released. Since they are not doing this, it now causes everyone who updated to newer builds to not be able to flash. You should probably try to address this in the roms thread if it hasnt already been done.
Thanks dude

I'm trying to install Cyanogenmod 11 ROM+kernel and I'm running into an issue. When installing the ROM from the micro SD card, I get an error in the file itself and it also says "Status 7" and then "Installation aborted".
Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've tried a couple of other roms and it's doing exactly the same thing. I've already installed the latest Blaze radio since I'm using T-Mobile on the device.
Any help to get this thing up an going is greatly appreciated! The last ROM that was just in here kept crashing all the time, even after a fresh restore it would crash while trying to install it's initial programs.
No ideas?
What recovery are you using? Try TWRP 2.8.1.0
The newer roms will fail to flash if you're using an older recovery.

Yep, that's probably the problem. TWRP's website is teamw.in.

Not sure, it's been a long time since I flashed the ROM on there. How can I check?

Just boot into your recovery. If you're using TWRP, you'll see a splash logo that says TeamWin.
The screen after that will show your version at the top of the screen. You can update it if necessary at teamw.in

Turns out it has CWM v5.0.2.6. Is this outdated and won't work either? Also I have problems trying to download Odin on Windows 8.1. The damn OS blocks the file from being downloaded to the computer. You guys have any idea how to stop this? I've tried even loading it from a SD card and it won't copy the file over.
Ok, thanks for the tip on installing the updated bootloader. Now I have CWM 6.0.4.3 for T-Mobile and installed the Blaze radio since I read it's the best for T-Mo.
I installed the latest version of LiquidSmooth 3.2 but it won't go past the splash screen. I see the animated water pouring and the words Liquid Smooth but it doesn't go past that and just reboots into the same thing.
Seems like I'm finally almost there but this damn thing is fighting every step of the way! What am I doing wrong?
Nevermind, seems like I finally got it.
Had to clear out caches, format memory, and all the erasing jazz each twice. Finally working now!
Thanks for the help guys!!!
