Bad sound from headphones - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The sound from my z1c through headphone jack sounds really hollow, almost like you listen to music underwater. This problem occured today for me, at first I thought i had broken the cable from my headphones but it sounds fine when I plug it in other devices. Both left and right work but it just sounds really bad, the volume of the sound went down quiet a bit aswell.
Anybody has any clue what i can do to fix this? Would a factory reset do the trick or is this a hardware problem?
Help is much appreciated!

Did this just suddenly occur or will we find out in a few posts you've installed or removed something that may have caused it? A factory reset is always worth trying as that should clear up if it's hardware or not.

I havent removed anything from my device for a while, no custom roms or rooting either. Ill try reseting when I have time for it.

hollow sound
Did you turn on clear audio+? Try turning it off.
Or did you change equalizer settings? Set it to none/flat.

After it happened ive tried turning clear audio on and off and changing the equalizer a bit, nothing works sadly. Im afraid that the audio jack is somehow damaged or something because the spreaker sound sounds fine. Im gonna try to factory reset my device tomorrow but I think it will probably not work. Probably have to send it in for repair sadly...

repair
So sad to hear that. Good luck bro.

Factory resetting my phone didn't work, have to send it in for repair sadly

This can happen if you don't fully plug the speakers in. Sometimes it's because there is dust inside. You might try, very careful, to clean it with a wooden/plastic toothpick.

Did you get this fixed?
Same exact thing just happened to my Z1 Compact
Edit: LOL, just found out the cable from my BW P5´s were broken. I was fooled by the louder sound from my PC (when coming directly from the phone). But after using the headphones on the PC for a while, I switched the cable. All OK now
Anyways, at least I had a good reason to join this awesome forum!

Hermes No Audio!

Hey Guys, love the roms so far... But I've run into some problems. I loaded Josh's Hex Rom, and now currently the hardware buttons on the phone, (pickup/end/Softkeys) and the Audio is gone. I reloaded to the At&T Default ROM, and reloaded for another rom... However the AUDIO is still gone on BOTH AT&T and Josh's Winter ROM.
Any Ideas?
try installing s2p (slide2play) and see if its in headset mode...
I have also heard of the connector for the internal speaker getting disconnected after getting dropped.
Thanks for the input, I verified and could used the earphone so I took them out tapped the phone on the desk, and low and behold it works!
Thanks Guys
Hopefully that fixed it! But, if it does it again, it might be time to look into disassembling it to see if a connector came loose. I haven't had mine apart yet.
Well I fixed it, when I opened the phone up and the internal speaker was disconnected. However now is there a reason why my call buttons down't work (hardware ones)? or do I need to open the phone again?
it's possible you disconnected something else? I service copiers and have done that to myself before!
happened 3 times to me now: internal flat connecting to speaker disconnected.
Annoying. you have to open the hermes, luckily connector is not "far away". Easy to see and fix

I don't think so, this time I went all the way down to the keypad (LCD) and nothing was disconnected. However, some of the buttons periodically work. Which is strange. Anyways We'll see

Good luck! I'll be curious to know what happens.
I dread the day that I feel the need to open my hermes. I'll probably shed a tear, man I love this phone!
This is what I know as of now.... The buttons still do not work however the back light does. Which is strange... :S. Later today I will open my Hermes for the 4th time and see whats wrong with it. I will this time record a video and post it up so I can get more insight on whats wrong with the device...
Anyways
I'll post again soon!

Headphone-only calling

Trying to help my sister fix her phone and would appreciate any help. Very familiar with the Vibrant but can't seem to find an answer to her problem. What the problem is is that one day a couple of weeks ago she plugged in her headphones to listen to music and now her phone is constantly showing that her headphones are plugged in still. She cannot hear who is calling her and they can't even hear her without the headphones plugged in. I've searched XDA and google and have not been able to even find someone who has had this problem before. I'm 99% sure she has tried a reboot and a battery pull to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help guys!
Really? Not one person has ever had this happen? Think maybe a factory reset? I mean, I'd hate to do it bur if Tmo is gonna do it anyway I guess it makes no difference to try, right?
if you can something probably got stuck you can use a q-tip to clean out, as well plug in headsphones, then turn the phone off and unplug the headset and turn phone on, last thing is do a factory reset, if root can do a nandroid and do wipe

Hi,
yeah I think that LG messed up the construction of the D855-headphone connection. Maybe the jack isn't grounded correctly, or the driver is written totally bad.
There are a few ways to "solve" this issue, but i don't think anything of that will completely remove this. In my opinion, it's a hardware-design related bug.
What some people do, is plugging out the headphones, making a call, and replugging the headphones. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54985854&postcount=91
A hopefully better solution might be modifying the mixer_paths.xml in /system/etc. I'm using it too - for this, take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59601465&postcount=150
Maybe Viper4Android has the ability to reduce the problems, but I didn't tested it...
you are life saver. I did the second methot it minimize the sound but the first one totaly remove it. thank you sir.

OP3 not vibrating

Hi all!,
I got my One Plus 3 last week and yesterday it completely stopped vibrating.
Its not vibrating when I receive calls, notifications, keyboard strokes etc etc
I have rebooted more than 5 times now..
Any ideas? I dont want to factory restore but it looks like the only option for now..
thanks
Dumb question - did you accidentally turn on the phisical mute button on the top left of the phone? Try putting it completley down. If there are no vibrations whatsoever afterwords, you might want to try installing a vibration tester app. If it still doesn't work, chances are the vibration motor is dead and you need to get your phone repaired. I mean factory resetting might be worth a try but I doubt it will make a difference.

I feel you man.. sucks sometimes. But when they shipped directly to you, I'm very certain they will take it back again..
Maybe someone else might have a fix before that, who knows..

LG G4 (LGH815) - no sound at all

Hey guys,
trying to fix this LG G4 which has problems with sound. There is no sound at all...
Tried to factory reset but that didnt help, even re-installed stock rom with LG Bridge in Download mode using the "software update error" method.
The bootloader is unlocked if that matters..
Important info: After factory reset the volume is at ~50% .. i can turn it up and down (but no sound) but when you turn off the volume completeley and turn it back up it starts to hang and system crashes (force close "system" and the ui restarts).
Even over the headphones there is no sound.
Any ideas? How can i return it to 100% stock (relock bootloader and flash EVERYTHING including the bootloader n ****?)
nobody have an idea? I dont think its the hardware - even headphones give no sound at all...
MAYBE if its hardware then it must be the sound chip itself.. but the phone looks pristine

If the issue persists after a factory reset and reflashing the stock ROM, it can't be anything other than hardware, sorry.

It actually is/was hardware related:
After flashing it for the 100th time without a difference (no sound, logcat reporting /proc/asound is missing) I figured it has to be the audio chip. So I teared it up again (luckily i didnt put the screws back in yet) I used my heating gun to heat up the audio chip and put everything together again. AND... tadaa there was sound!
It went away after the first boot though - so i gave it some extra heat. =)
now it seems stable so far...
aaand its gone ... again
so after heating it up some more audio is back for good - lets hope this lasts.
For those who are also affected:
The audio chip is the small black chip in the top right corner on the upper side of board. It seems that there is a small battery close to it - at least it looks like one. Be careful not to heat up the battery too much.
