Hi all
i have tried everything to try rooting my note 2.
I got to the point that Su appears in my apps list but it stops responding and the little grey shield comes up to say unauthorised access was stopped. Also trying to update*
i then tried Cwm and twrp and it has a green pass on doing but it does not give me a new download menu so that I can install multi tools from zip.*
What else can I do to root and/or bypass know? I have hard reset my phone (btw su is still on) and busy downloading a stock 4.3 rom.
must I install stock rom and try again? Or what else can I try?
see details below of my details
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2339704
have tried these threads but it all seems to refer to pre 4.3
can I download pre rooted 4.3 firmware from somewhere else?

Option 1: Following process should work for your N7105 phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535015
u have already tried this as exactly told, then you go to option 2
Option 2: Follow Dr. Ketans thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032849
If none of above work, Lastly install stock rom.

No matter what i tried i can not get root on this phone i just got it about three days ago.
its a Tmobile Phone
it came with 4.1.1
Build UVDLJA
Ive tried root66 but no dice, i can not run any thing root, everything requiring root hangs in the loading screen and when i try to update the binary for superuser it fails in the acquiring root permissions section,
I never get the prompt to deny or allow.
this is is my 5th android phone and the first to present this issue to me.
Can anyone provide insight on why this is happening?
After you ODIN, did you see the super user icon? If not, you may not did it correctly or you chose the wrong TARZ file to ODIN.

Could be a bad download. I would re-download the root66 file and try again. Just to be sure, are you extracting the .tar file and flashing it in the PDA section in Odin?

Have you tired after you Odin root66 booting into recovery and wiping data and cache?

I had the same issue until I saw this video and it worked. Follow the link and it'll show u, for some reason this recovery file is the only one that worked.

Hello,
I am new to rooting of Android and I needed some advice on how to remove superuser from the system app and su from xbin.
I have a GT-N5120 on ver. 4.1.2, and I rooted it using Flamaroot. It was working fine and when ver. 4.2.2 was available I forgot to unroot my tablet and went ahead with the software update. After the update, my tablet became unrooted and I am stuck with the superuser and su file.
Tried to use flamaroot again to root the tablet but it doesn't display the same options during the first rooting, thus unable to root it. Uninstalled superuser app but file is still inside the system folder. Tried deleting the files but message shows files cannot be deleted.
How can I recover to stock version Currently tablet is showing ver. 4.2.2, Kernel version : 3.0.31-1210063, [email protected] #1.
Desperately needed help because S-pen could not detect some of the alphabets in the keyboard and wanted to send back to Samsung for repair.
Thanks in advance.
Unrooting
First, Framaroot doesn't work on 4.2.2, Samsung patched those exploits.
1) Root by CF-Auto-Root. It will install SuperSU, which is better than Superuser, IMO.
2) Reset the flash counter by Triangle Away. Otherwise Samsung will not allow you to claim the warranty.
3) Boot to the system (I assume you are on stock kernel and recovery). Fully unroot using the option in the SuperSU.
4) Go to the recovery (first Power off, and then press Vol Up + Power, release the buttons when the boot screen appear). Do a full wipe (factory & cache). Power off.
5) Go to download mode and check whether the counter reset to "0", and also system status as "official".
6) Now flash the latest firmware. Device is ready to claim warranty.
After these, check whether the S-Pen issue solved or not.
Thank you AkiOrpheus.
I will run through the links to try to understand the process on the steps you have given.
Will probably need more help to understand some of the details later and will post those questions as needed.
Thanks again.
Hi Aki,
I followed the instructions and went through the CF-Auto-Root (steps very clearly explained by Chainfire) and now my GT-N5120 is rooted and also apparently, the S-pen problem is also resolved.
Looks like I do not have to sent in to Samsung for warranty claim for now. I also did not do the Triangle Away and left my Note 8 rooted.:angel::good:
Thank you again Aki and Chainfire. You guys are great!!!!!
Good news
Good to hear problem solved. Yes, it's better to use Triangle Away only when going to pay a visit to Samsung service. Can you kindly add "[SOLVED]" before the thread title?
BTW, when come to Android Chainfire is far great
[Solved] GT-N5120 Removal of Superuser and SU from Unrooted Tablet
Problem solved.
"thread title" not the "post title"
Oh no! What I meant was like this, add "[SOLVED]" in front of the thread title not the post title. That way it's easy when someone with the similar problem searched for a solution.
This is for a VM "Galaxy SII" (i.e. SPH-D710). I also posted regarding at the CM forums since it started with their instructions wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_d710 but wanted to see if anyone here had ideas ...
Having done some work on an S III using heimdall, I guess I was a little too comfortable and ignored the feeling that maybe I should wait and do some more research. In the end, I ran ..
heimdall flash --kernel /path/to/recovery.img --no-reboot
I thought something didn't seem right about it, but went ahead (against better judgement) It flashed and now I can only get into Download mode or get the dreaded yellow triangle with the Samsung Galaxy S II Text above it. It does not finish booting though.
I've done some research here and other places. I know there is the TriangleAway app, but that doesn't fit this scenario as the boot doesn't complete and this phone has not been rooted.
I have a backup phone running and have options for a new phone in the future, but would like to get this back up and running. Am I officially bricked or is there hope? Ideas?!?!?
TIA!
Stock Kernels?
So, some further research would indicate that I just need to reflash the stock kernal to get me going again ... And I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662295
Phone was 4.0.x ICS. Can anyone confirm which is the right kernel image? This is the VM SPH-D710. Thanks!

If its a d710… i would think you just need any ics kernel… get the stock kernel. If you need help rooting later i can tell you a simple way with an app. But you need to update to jb 4.1.2 to have the correct pertition setup for the newer roms.
If i was you i would just flash that update… then root with framaroot apk. Then flash a compatible custom kernel with mobile odin to get a recovery....
Since you can still get into download mode, I'd say theres still some hope to save your phone. Have you tried using Samsung's SimpleDownloaderTool to try and restore back to stock?
You can download the tool from their website, the link is under the Downloads tab and named "Device(Install),Others (Software) (ver.OS Update GB27 (Jelly_Bean))". Website link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SPH-D710ZKASPR

Can you link it for me? Cant seem to find it
I have been searching the forum and google and have been unable to reach a solution yet.
I am not a noob, but i am not an expert either so use small words ha.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 5210 with the most recent OTA update.
Last night I attempted to root my device using this:
androidxda (DOT) com/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-3-10-1-gt-p5210
It claimed successful and my device started to reboot and hung up at the Samsung GALAXY TAB 3 screen. I am unable to get to recovery mode on the device. Only able to go to download mode. I have tried several options but have been unable to find a way to flash it successfully. The flashes i have tried downloading were all in .zip and that obviously isn't able to be used in Odin. I have researched how to convert the files into a .tar but I don't have linux. Can someone please help me because I need my tablet. I know it can be saved but I can't seem to locate the answers. I am also getting concerned that it is unable to charge the battery being in the condition it is in now so I am trying to conserve the battery on the tablet until it is absolutely needed. Thanks.

First of all - Welcome to xda
Your tab is soft bricked, something has gone wrong with your system files... Honestly it seems like you know enough to get it done, but are struggling a bit with the file formats. You are correct in saying that Odin won't use zip files, but you shouldn't have to convert anything to tar or download linux! If you extract the zip files, you should find a .tar or .tar.md5 file (inside the zip file) that Odin can use, put it in the PDA mode box, etc etc... If your downloads don't have the correct files inside them, try THIS thread.
Let me know if you get it sorted :good:

I had already tried the method and file in the forum you linked me to. It failed almost instantly. That's when I turned everything off and tossed it all to the back seat of my work truck before it got thrown at the windshield. I keep seeing people saying they have trwp or whatever. I don't even know what that is haven't researched that. Is it something i need as well?
I've never successfully rooted a Samsung device. I used to do this stuff a lot back with the droid x with Linux and everything was pretty simple. Does Samsung change their bootloader with each update like Motorola did then? I was wondering that when trying to install a firmware of a previous version that maybe that was the problem.
All I wanted root for was to just tweak some things and be happy. It has turned into a nightmare.
C,
hi,
the consistent/common thread of this problem is/seems to be taking the ota and trying unverified/gimmicky
root methods.
there are recoveries for the gt-p52xx in the tab 10.1 forum
the majority of samsung devices root as follows;
if a custom recovery exist, flash it.
then download recent or latest version of chainfire's supersu update zip, reboot to recovery
backup your rom first, then flash supersu, if everything goes well, once you have set up your stock rom with root in place
make a new backup.
samsung ota's are death incarnate, reject them.
goto the tab 10 forum and get busy ! you said it yourself, you're not a noob, you know the drill. :good:

I have tried the recoveries in the forum and it failed seconds after starting.
I don't do this stuff regularly as I don't hardly have the time. I haven't done anything of this nature in years so I'm well out of the loop on things..

okay, hmm, when you say it fails, do you mean odin fails to flash and if so what is the reason/ouput ?
or do you mean that you are now in a recovery bootloop ?
note- though i go the full route of packing recovery.img's for odin flashing, the md5 checksum always seems to
come up as invalid, the working "remedy" is to remove the .md5 extension from the "odin-flashable-recovery".tar.md5 file
by renaming the file to "odin-flashable-recovery".tar
odin will no longer attempt the checksum verification but the recovery file will flash.
make sure you have samsung-usb-drivers for windows installed. on the main page of my devhost archive [link is in my signature]
you will find the tools you need. the possible problem is that the ota you installed may have overwritten your bootloader, for that i don't
have a reliable fix, so if anything make sure you also have the stock recovery ready to go as well as supersu update zip
already downloaded onto your device for rooting.
after you flash the custom recovery [with auto-restart in odin disabled] run the flash and wait for the res-ok message, give it another second or two then disconnect the tab and force reboot to recovery, home,vol-up and power, once in recovery make a full backup, then flash supersu zip and reboot, if you do go into recovery loop, force reboot to odin mode, home,vol-down and power, follow the on screen instruction, now reconnect your tab to pc and use odin to flash back stock recovery.

Okay guys I appreciate the help. I finally got it. I tried the method on Zachisimo's post on unbricking and finally got it installed.
After it installed, it left me with a bootloop and I was actually able to go into recovery mode this time and do a factory data reset and wipe cache then everything went well. I am a happy dude now.
Going to attempt rooting it again and does anyone have any suggestions on what ROM to install? I have never used any custom ROM's before so that is a new area for me. Feeling more confident knowing how to save it from the dead. :good::good::good:

If you use it then thats what i shall try. First i gotta find a root, then I have seen many people recommend philz recovery, and then the rom?
question why does Restl3ss say wait 10minutes after installing a rom before doing anything?
