I was running the ICS leaked release and decided to try another ROM. I think my mistake was that I didn't flash a custom recovery like Rogue's and just threw the ROM on my SD, went into the stock recovery that came with the ICS leaked ROM, ran Calkulin's wipe and flashed the ROM.
The phone won't boot up. I can get into Download Mode but I don't know where I can download a stock tar to flash in ODIN 1.85. If I try and go to the stock recovery it doesn't work.
Any help would be appreciated.
***EDIT***
It's still stuck at the data.img portion of the process (end process). It's probably not going far from there.
I can't get into the stock recovery but it does allow the download mode still.

In the dev threads look for sfhubs oneclick el29. Download it and follow instructions. It will be fine.

Right here is all you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21134991
Then use autoroot to get cwm back.
Team-Nocturnal Blended ICS
I tried that earlier and it didn't work. I deleted all the files and will try it again. When I tried the steps it just hung at waiting for connection or something to that effect.

That really sound like you don't have the drivers quite right. When you open the regular odin, and your phone is in download mode, does a yellow box on odin show up? If not its the drivers.

Yes. It shows COM port I in yellow which is a good thing because it recognizes something is connected.

Then the one click should work just fine. Make sure you follow his instructions to the T. Also on his page he has some drivers, you should install those, it uninstall or over write the old ones. Just to be sure.

Thanks. It looks like it's working now. It's installing right now and then we shall see but I'm pretty sure it'll work. I'll leave it stock for now until ICS comes out. I'm so buy working on my new car that I barely have time to geek out anymore on my phone.
Don't try to flash anything with stock recovery ...it has to be officially signed by Samsung ...won't work

It didn't work. Last night I went to run the EL29 Restore - Rooted and it got stuck on the data.img portion. The progress bar on the phone and computer just hung there. I disconnected the cable and went to bed (after 1.5 hours of it just sitting there stuck).
I'm trying it again today and lets see if it gets stuck.
I'm reflashing EL29 over the FB21 (w/e the leaked version of ICS was) I had. Is that the issue?
Sorry but I think your bricked. There is a "Stuck at Data.img" thread here in q&a.
The issue still isn't repairable.
The way you went about getting stuck here is a little different tho. So hopefully I'm wrong.
Good luck
Are you stuck in a bootloop? If so, do you get any further than the Samsung splash screen?
Try re-flashing the ICS leak. I read somewhere that it could be a filesystem issue with switching to and from GB. If that doesn't work, maybe you'll have better luck with using ODIN as opposed to the one-click method. You'll find the tars here-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391732
In most cases you'll be flashing them in PDA, but read everything closely, and follow the steps.
If you have insurance, I almost suggest going to Sprint while it still seems there's no evidence you've been flashing (yellow triangle), as they'll likely just replace it for you.
If none of that works, then it sounds like a rare problem that happened to mine a few months ago. This was the only thread I found at that time, but it was for AT&T's GSII.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20834412#post20834412
I ended up getting a new one, but I would love to finally find a solution since I still have it. Pretty much the only thing I haven't tried is a JTAG service.

If I turn on the phone I get a screen that says

I don't get to the point where it even shows me a Samsung logo; just straight to that screen.

I'm reading it now. I want to add that it was CWM touch that messed up my phone because I had flashed that before attempting to flash another ROM since ICS build came with the default factory recovery. So I'm guessing my file system is corrupt. I'll keep reading through the thread. (I skipped to the last couple of pages.
Hey so can you still get into download mode? I ran into the same problem where it kept getting stuck in odin. Try a different usb cable and a different port. Odin is very fussy with usb cables. When I had the trouble I was using a Logitech usb cable. Switched to the one that came with my phone and it worked like a charm.

I didnt think it was possible that a simple cable swap would help me when I was in the exact same position as you either but it sure did. What could it hurt to just try a different cable? I am sure you could borrow one from a friend just to try it. According to qbking77 samsung cables are pretty bad when it comes to using odin.

I do have all the drivers and stuff. its just that no recovery. im running 4.1.2 jelly bean
Not in any way am I trying to be rude or condescending. ...but
You need to stop and read the steps again. ...before you accidentally do damage to the device partitions or worse. ..
Custom recovery images are pushed to the device via Odin when the stock recovery still exists. ...and if done incorrectly. ..you can brick the device.
Please explain the method you are using to attempt the recovery flash. .and we can help correct the problem.
But by all means. ..don't attempt another flash of recovery until the problem is found.
Recovery is essential to do exactly as the term states. ..."recovery"...and without it. ..you will be in trouble with no way back but JTAG service.
Read and read again the recovery steps. ..and go slow here...

well first i downloaded the galaxynote2root zip file from the website. it gave the odin and a file to flash. then I put phone in download mode and flashed. successfully got root. I think its because I have the latest software. 4.1.2 everyone got root in 4.1.1 and the old one doesnt work anymore. what did u use to root.? I did all the steps exactly what max did. and he got root like that and installed cwm. i followed video and blog post. this is the video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFHZ535L7is
Is it better to use the toolkit that to use this method? toolkit users have had less problems.
ALSO NOW ITS DOWNLOADING SOME UPDATES WHEN I CONNECT TO WIFI. im already rooted so does that mean im going to brick if i update so im not even using the phone now plzz someone help me
thanks for reply
FIRST thing you need ro do is check and make sure you have a recovery.
Imo the number one reason noobs break there phones is with out realizing it they borked their recovery and try to root , flash a custom rom, OR take an ota.
No recovery = no ota or any other flashing.
Check you recovery by:
Power off> press vol up, menu, and home.
This is done all at once. As soon as you see the text appear in the top right corrner release. It takes a bit of practice but its not a biggie.
Now.. do you see recovery or are you in a boot loop?
If you have a boot loop while trying to get into recovery...it means u no have recovery!!!
Secondly Stop flashing root!!
Lol pick a single root method that has been verified to work by others. And stick to it.
Its sooo important to read.
In fact with some phones one variant of root wont work if you have an update and hence a different android version.
So you need to read.
If you have recovery click factory restore.
You can do this from the os or.. I prefer going into recovery and hitting factory restore. iTS THE SAME.
If you have a boot loop while trying to get into recoveru

Newbs should NOT be using odin unless they are 100% sure they know what they are doing and are comfortable doing so. My efr tutorial in my sig will teach you how to use KIES EFR (Emergency Firmware Recovery)
I prefer to send people the gn2 toolkit.
Its easy and also has plenty of options.
Just remember to uninstall kies first.
There are numerous ways to root.

ok thanks a lot, i flashed twrp recovery now running jellybam rom, i was wondering if it supports transparent status bar? not just in one app in all of them.
The answer to that question is found in the respective thread for the rom you are using. .
Check there first. ...
General searches also yield great results. ...g
im going to switch to pac man rom soon, bc xda banned jellybam for not giving credits i think. anyway whats a good kernel to use? now im using the one that came with jellybam. im guessing u experminented a lot and give me some suggestions. i dont wanna overclock just looking for smooth performance.
For pac.....
Use the preloaded kernel ..
It is optimized for the build and you can get support ...
If you change kernels ...you may not get support ...g
Phone Stats
Sprint Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710)
Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Stable)
Last ROM update flash was months ago, no issues
TWRP latest
Can not get into recovery
Can get into download mode (using HOME+VOL-DOWN+POWER)
Using Odin 3 (1.85)
Phone was sitting on table, just started boot looping.
Tried to flash (everything) - stock Sprint image, CM ROM, etc.
Odin fails when it gets to reading the PIT information.
I looked everywhere for a Sprint GS3 PIT file, only found one, but it was labeled "i710" (probably by accident) and did not work.
If anyone has or can dump an image of their partition information (PIT) I would be extremely grateful, and willing to compensate you, because I'm an Android developer and kinda need my phone =)
More information:
Yes drivers are all installed and working. Phone is recognized as usual on three different laptops.
Yes phone was charged at least over 80% when trying anything.
Yes, tried multiple cables and USB ports (esp. powered ones) - phone connects fine.
Brought it to Sprint - they actually tried to flash it for me (nice guys!) but the software denied b/c of the custom binary.
Yes, I read every post here/elsewhere containing the keywords "PIT", "S3", and "brick" - many solutions would work, except for the fact that Odin won't get past reading the PIT.
No, I didn't do anything dumb like flashing GSM, international, custom crap, or by checking "repartition" or anything like that.
Not using any custom kernel or anything else - only the recovery (TWRP) and ROM (CM10) are custom.
Even more information (yes, I'm desperate!):
I tried all methods I could find - literally days worth of searching - including reinstalling the drivers, installing drivers while in download mode, connecting from Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Linux (Ubuntu - Mint).
Tried flashing stock recovery.
Tried flashing stock Sprint/Samsung image.
Tried flashing various PIT files claiming to be Sprint SGS3.
I basically gave in and was going to buy a new phone, but the dude at Sprint even said "this is fixable - you just need that PIT file", so I'd like to give it one last try before calling it. The phone really has been good to me, otherwise.
Any help is greatly appreciated! If you read all of this, you're a saint =)

Thanks. That's real helpful. It's not my thread, it's a related one I found after I posted, and this info is still relevant.
I have been searching the forum and google and have been unable to reach a solution yet.
I am not a noob, but i am not an expert either so use small words ha.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 5210 with the most recent OTA update.
Last night I attempted to root my device using this:
androidxda (DOT) com/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-3-10-1-gt-p5210
It claimed successful and my device started to reboot and hung up at the Samsung GALAXY TAB 3 screen. I am unable to get to recovery mode on the device. Only able to go to download mode. I have tried several options but have been unable to find a way to flash it successfully. The flashes i have tried downloading were all in .zip and that obviously isn't able to be used in Odin. I have researched how to convert the files into a .tar but I don't have linux. Can someone please help me because I need my tablet. I know it can be saved but I can't seem to locate the answers. I am also getting concerned that it is unable to charge the battery being in the condition it is in now so I am trying to conserve the battery on the tablet until it is absolutely needed. Thanks.

First of all - Welcome to xda
Your tab is soft bricked, something has gone wrong with your system files... Honestly it seems like you know enough to get it done, but are struggling a bit with the file formats. You are correct in saying that Odin won't use zip files, but you shouldn't have to convert anything to tar or download linux! If you extract the zip files, you should find a .tar or .tar.md5 file (inside the zip file) that Odin can use, put it in the PDA mode box, etc etc... If your downloads don't have the correct files inside them, try THIS thread.
Let me know if you get it sorted :good:

I had already tried the method and file in the forum you linked me to. It failed almost instantly. That's when I turned everything off and tossed it all to the back seat of my work truck before it got thrown at the windshield. I keep seeing people saying they have trwp or whatever. I don't even know what that is haven't researched that. Is it something i need as well?
I've never successfully rooted a Samsung device. I used to do this stuff a lot back with the droid x with Linux and everything was pretty simple. Does Samsung change their bootloader with each update like Motorola did then? I was wondering that when trying to install a firmware of a previous version that maybe that was the problem.
All I wanted root for was to just tweak some things and be happy. It has turned into a nightmare.
C,
hi,
the consistent/common thread of this problem is/seems to be taking the ota and trying unverified/gimmicky
root methods.
there are recoveries for the gt-p52xx in the tab 10.1 forum
the majority of samsung devices root as follows;
if a custom recovery exist, flash it.
then download recent or latest version of chainfire's supersu update zip, reboot to recovery
backup your rom first, then flash supersu, if everything goes well, once you have set up your stock rom with root in place
make a new backup.
samsung ota's are death incarnate, reject them.

okay, hmm, when you say it fails, do you mean odin fails to flash and if so what is the reason/ouput ?
or do you mean that you are now in a recovery bootloop ?
note- though i go the full route of packing recovery.img's for odin flashing, the md5 checksum always seems to
come up as invalid, the working "remedy" is to remove the .md5 extension from the "odin-flashable-recovery".tar.md5 file
by renaming the file to "odin-flashable-recovery".tar
odin will no longer attempt the checksum verification but the recovery file will flash.
make sure you have samsung-usb-drivers for windows installed. on the main page of my devhost archive [link is in my signature]
you will find the tools you need. the possible problem is that the ota you installed may have overwritten your bootloader, for that i don't
have a reliable fix, so if anything make sure you also have the stock recovery ready to go as well as supersu update zip
already downloaded onto your device for rooting.
after you flash the custom recovery [with auto-restart in odin disabled] run the flash and wait for the res-ok message, give it another second or two then disconnect the tab and force reboot to recovery, home,vol-up and power, once in recovery make a full backup, then flash supersu zip and reboot, if you do go into recovery loop, force reboot to odin mode, home,vol-down and power, follow the on screen instruction, now reconnect your tab to pc and use odin to flash back stock recovery.

Okay guys I appreciate the help. I finally got it. I tried the method on Zachisimo's post on unbricking and finally got it installed.
After it installed, it left me with a bootloop and I was actually able to go into recovery mode this time and do a factory data reset and wipe cache then everything went well. I am a happy dude now.
Going to attempt rooting it again and does anyone have any suggestions on what ROM to install? I have never used any custom ROM's before so that is a new area for me. Feeling more confident knowing how to save it from the dead. :good::good::good:

Hi, I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Active and while updating, it went into a bootloop. I cant boot into recovery, odin fails to flash the stock rom, and all I get when booting is:

screen. It doesn't even go to that, all it does is boots into recovery. I don't want to send it out for repairs (Mostly because I am broke).
If also, may I get answers from people that own one and been in this problem before and/or people that know how to repair this issue.
Also, I can only use the Stock Recovery.
Thanks, Nysean01'

Nope. It says in red, FAIL.

I was running the latest version of everything. 7.0 for phone, 10 for computer, and a mod odin.
Try a different Odin package, an older stock ROM and a different cable.
Which ones would you recommend?
Odin 3.12.4 and PI2, that is the earliest on BL2, try that, and if it works you should be able to OTA back up.
Mark as closed. I took it to the store, and even they said that they cant do nothing about it. So, Since I had the warranty (didn't know, was a hand me down), Samsung is sending me a new phone.
I have the same problem, got stuck on Nand writel. Already try different odin versions, I was on the last stock room, the problem was that I heva virus and had to do a hard reset, but when I finish got stuck on google verification, after try a lot of times I decided to fls stock room, but I fail.
What I can do it?
